What vehicles from the 90s and early 2000s do you think people will be preserving, restoring, and bringing to car shows in the future?

I’m just curious what cars do you think enthusiasts will continue work on restoring and preserving and why do you think that. I think the immediate ones that come to mind is the Hummer since they are already highly sought after from my understanding.

I have a 2007 Saturn Sky Redline convertible with low miles and a 2004 GTO with a tvs2300 supercharger, both tucked away in my garage along with my 67 Chevelle SS. I would take any one of them to a car show. I want a 2018 Cadillac CTS-V really bad.

They already are. Friend if mine shows his 1995 chevy Impala all the time
Mac-Tyson@reddit (OP)
Is it just a standard stock Chevy Impala or custom in some way?
YotaDeluxe@reddit
I think in ‘95 the only Impala you could buy was the Impala SS which was a Caprice with a Corvette motor that only came in a few cool colors so even if “stock” it would still be petty special.

LT1, I believe?

Yeah they're both lt1s they just share nothing except the block pretty much. Different cam, heads, intake, belt drive, etc

OverallManagement824@reddit
It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters, so it'll run good on regular gas. Whaddya say?
smthngeneric@reddit
Hit it.
mrgreengenes04@reddit
The same engine was available in the regular Caprice/Roadmaster/Fleetwood as well. The Impala got a console shifter, unique seats, and suspension upgrades. Its coolness is from its somewhat limited production compared to the Caprice.
But it's a 30 year old car. No different than someone showing a 65 Impala at a car show in 1995.
BeaverMartin@reddit
Just for completeness the earlier Impala SS had a column shift, even though it had a console/bucket seats. 1996 marked the arrival of the floor shifter.

I would throw in the Z3M roadster. Beautiful car and great daily, but just too heavy to be considered a true performance vehicle.

FiL has a 2007 Shelby GT with less than 3,500 miles on it. He also has a 2005 SSR with the corvette engine with less than 30,000 miles. He thinks they’re too new for car shows, but he keeps them immaculate.
I’m hoping to buy the mustang off of him in a few years, he wants I think $35,000 for it, but he’ll only let me buy it if I can save up the money to pay him cash.

Oh also can’t forget to mention the American muscle cars of the period have some very dedicated followers in recent years. Not surprised after I witnessed the foxbody go from ultra-niche “cool” to a somewhat more mainstream “cool”.

what is it, like any car older than 27 years is considered a classic? That means more than half of the cars made in the 90s are now considered Classics.
Your question assumes this is not already fully underway......hint, it is.

congteddymix@reddit
Yeah but OP is asking what cars people are trying to save and restore. Look at the boomer car crowd, they saved cars like the GTO, Mustang, Camaro, 2dr chevelles particularly if they were SS packages. These where the car that gen saved and would spend money to restore and such. They did not give two shits about LTD’s, Caprices, Darts basically anything four door or wagons. Honestly it’s is younger gens that are saving those era cars that boomers didn’t want.
Now the 90’s and 2000’s cars are being fixed up by us Millennials as some of us get some money and relive our youth. Where saving all the cool cars first and a good majority of us aren’t going to give a shit about a 2000 Ford Taurus.
Not saying people won’t save those cars but TLDR just cause it’s old doesnt mean it will be sought after and collectible by a majority of people.
Young_Spyda@reddit
Any of those Japanese sports cars from the 90s. The 300zx, the Supra, the 3000GT (or GTO if your outside US), the NSX, the GT-R, the s2000, all of these will be sought after forever
redsnowman45@reddit
OBS Ford trucks. They are already bringing stupid prices.
BeaverMartin@reddit
Basically cars who were well built and whose category has been eliminated. Full size, body on frame sedans and wagons like the GM B bodies, and Ford Panther. Cheap, capable 4WD SUVs like 90s 4Runners and XJ Cherokees. Simple single cab trucks like OBS Fords and Chevys. Oddities like Suzuki X-90s, Isuzu Axiom and Vehicross. Finally the retro craze models like the Plymouth Prowler, Thunderbird, and SSR.

Absolutely, I have two at this time but have owned a few others in the past. Modern drivetrain and handling with classic looks. Love my street legal go-carts!!

Congrats! I’ve never driven one, but do think they’re beautiful. Take good care of them, they’ll probably be good money some day, following in the footsteps of the 507.

Anything but the Aztek please.
congteddymix@reddit
Anything that was considered sporty and fast for the era are already being saved and known to be popular(90’s Fox mustangs, the diamond star cars, Trans Ams, any of the fast import cars). Trucks from that era are already popular enough that all the big reproduction body panel companies make enough panels to almost build a new version from scratch. Hummer H2 and H3 since those already kind of have a cult following.
I think any of the cars that came with the GM 3800 supercharged engine which ranges from the Buick Park Avenue to the the Monte Carlo and Pontiac Grand Prix and Bonneville will get noticed and saved. The Ford Probe will also start to get looked at in a different light and saved(little known tidbit is that these were supposed to replace the Mustang), the Ford Thunderbird and Mercury Cougar will also finally stopped getting ignored and saved.
And people will finally stop ignoring the Dodge Stealth and Dodge Daytona and start saving those.
blahyawnblah@reddit
Well preserved or even at this point restored SN95 Mustangs. Cobras and the Mystic paint ones.
nayls142@reddit
Go check bringatrailer.com right now. Probably less than 1% of cars manufactured in the 90s are still on the road. 25 human years is like 175 car years.
blahyawnblah@reddit
Then why are there so many vehicles from the 50s and 60s that you see all the time. Just because something isn't BaT, doesn't mean that's the case.
Mac-Tyson@reddit (OP)
That’s why I’m asking the question I’m curious which ones “car guys” think will still be preserved and restored for decades to come.
nayls142@reddit
Those cars are on BaT right now... They're already being preserved and restored by car guys.
It's a very narrow selection. Take Ford for example: 90% of the vehicles are Mustangs, F-series or Broncos. That's what people are preserving and restoring. Good luck finding a Taurus or Escort.
AKADriver@reddit
That is why you get a big reaction at the right car show with a vintage "regular" car.
A perfectly preserved Chevy Celebrity that looks like it just rolled out of the showroom will get a ton of positive attention at a show that's focused on '80s and '90s cars.
Maybe not so much at a more general car show where you still get a lot of boomers stuck in the "nothing past 1973 will ever be a classic" mindset.
mrgreengenes04@reddit
There's a few FWD A-Bodies that showed up at a car show I was at this summer, they were the most popular cars there. People ignored the Corvettes, Mustangs and Camaros, and all wanted to see the Buick Century and Pontiac 6000. Even the DustBuster minivan was more popular.
Everyone had a story about a family member or friend that had one, and how they wished they still had it, how they hadn't seen one in years, forgot how nice they were etc.

I know the Hummer is a very polarizing vehicle but it’s definitely Iconic. I imagine there’s going to be someone always out there to preserve and restore them. Especially H1 and H2’s.
It’s kind of like the original Smart Car or Toyota Prius. I never wanted to own or drive one but as the years go by I would probably like seeing them at a car show.

GM FWD A-Bodied like the Century/Cierra/Celebrity/6000

Toyota Camry wagons

I own both a Fox Mustang and an SN95 Mustang. I personally prefer the Foxbody, but I find the SN95 gets more attention when i go to local shows. By attention i mean more of that nostalgia "Oh my boyfriend had one of these in HS we used to make out in the back seat" kinda comments.

Im guessing quite alot of them since EVs will soon be all the cars that’ll exist.
Car museums and car shows in the 22th century: Here, ladies and gentlemen, we have the humble but practical Vw Passat, a boxy family car that was used to haul the whole family and was popular in the early 21st century. It features a 2.0 diesel engine with 4 stroke design and an automated double clutch gearbox for a relaxed and sophisticated driving experience”.
But to be real im guessing high end sportscars, mostly.
