How bothered are you about late night shows (The Tonight Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live etc.) Do many of you watch them?

Makeup_life72@reddit
Absolutely not. I’m 52 years old and that nonsense is way past my bedtime
GreatWyrm@reddit
I like Colbert’s and Meyer’s comedy news, but few of the interviews interest me.
Doge-Coin7@reddit
I used to watch Conan.
UmpireExpress6746@reddit
Conan was the only late night show that was funny and worth watching. Now that he’s doesn’t have a show anymore, I could give a crap. All kimmel does is tell recycled trump jokes, Fallon has never been good and James Corden is an unlikable tool. I like Colbert though, mainly because I was a fan of him before he got the Late Show when he did the Colbert Report on Comedy Central. Other than that, the only “talk show” I’ll even give my attention to is The Daily Show if you can consider that a talk show.
AggressiveCommand739@reddit
I lost interest when letterman and Conan quit
Aggressive-Emu5358@reddit
What do you mean bothered?
BigBlueMagic@reddit
They talk about Trump too much. I get enough of that guy already.
Matchboxx@reddit
They’re past my bedtime. I truly don’t understand how people over 30 are staying up past 10PM.
ProfessionalAir445@reddit
Because I wake up at 8 (work at 9) and don’t need ten hours of sleep.
ALoungerAtTheClubs@reddit
Not everybody gets up at 6.
I'm rarely asleep before 2, but I still don't watch late night TV.
TsundereLoliDragon@reddit
Why would they bother me lol
And no, there hasn't been anyone worth watching since Letterman and Conan.
MancAccent@reddit
Bothered has a different meaning in the UK
MrLongWalk@reddit
And this is ask an American

He literally says exactly what it means in the post. So maybe you should just learn to read😭😭
MrLongWalk@reddit
He edited the post after the comments were made, calm down
Little-Ad7763@reddit
No he didnt...
ProfessionalAir445@reddit
OP literally mentions editing it in the comments.
Why are you arguing? You commented hours after the post went up. You likely didn’t even see it before it was edited.
jane7seven@reddit
Yes, he did. His note was an edit.
MancAccent@reddit
Not every foreigner is going to know that their words don’t mean the same thing as our words. Just like you didn’t know either.
MrLongWalk@reddit
Yes but Brits tend to get precious about their slang, you can’t get bent out of shape when Americans don’t know all of it
MancAccent@reddit
Is anyone here bent out of shape ??
tiptoemicrobe@reddit
Some people seem bothered.
aldesuda@reddit
I'm gonna throw in my vote for Craig Ferguson.
Prowindowlicker@reddit
Dude was the only reason I watched late night tv
aldesuda@reddit
One ding? Ve are German.
7yearlurkernowposter@reddit
They have been unwatchable for a decade now.
Or maybe I just got older but I used to look forward to just catching the opening monologue laughing a little then going to bed.
thatsad_guy@reddit
Why would I be bothered by them?
NeverMind_ThatShit@reddit
I think they're just Bri'ish. Bothered doesn't mean the same thing, he's asking if we're interested in them. I think.
ReadinII@reddit
If he’s going to askAnAmerican he needs to learn to speak English instead of British si we can understand him.
Little-Ad7763@reddit
He literally says exactly what it means in the post. So maybe you should just learn to read😭😭
NeverMind_ThatShit@reddit
He edited that in after this comment chain 🤡
CinemaSideBySides@reddit
I was intrigued and did some searching on the AskUK sub. It looks like "bothered by" means the same thing it does in the US, but "bothered about" refers to interest or attention in general.
I actually love when a question on here turns into a whole other TIL.
G00dSh0tJans0n@reddit
Like “hot and bothered?”
cherrycokeicee@reddit
I can also safely say nothing about late night shows makes me "hot and bothered"
BaconContestXBL@reddit
How can you do my boy Guillermo like that
sowingdragonteeth@reddit
Damn, not even that thing Colbert does with his eyebrows?
TsundereLoliDragon@reddit
Not since Conan at least.
mechinn@reddit
Literally thank you, got to love when words take on their opposite meaning depending on context 😅
Not_Cool_Ice_Cold@reddit
Ohhhhhh, that explains it. I was wondering why anyone would be bothered (in the American use of that word) by them?
Regardless, I like all of them, and watch all of them. Colbert is my favorite, but I like the others as well.
jane7seven@reddit
I'm very amused by the phrasing of this question ("bothered") and the confusion it's causing in the comments.
veryangryowl58@reddit
I was picturing someone walking around just constantly lowkey angry about the existence of the Jimmy Fallon show.
DrGlennWellnessMD@reddit
I mean...have you seen literally any conversation about Jimmy Fallon on reddit? Folks on here really hate him for the crime of having inoffensive mass appeal
Puukkot@reddit
Now that you mention it, I really don’t understand how he got a show in the first place, let alone how he’s managed to keep it. I’m not sure whether it’s the ass kissing or the constant giggling that gets to me more, but he’s the worst. So, since it’s come up, I guess I am a bit bothered.
KevrobLurker@reddit
He is a comic actor and can also sing a bit. His stand-up skills are mediocre. He had a track record hosting Late Night before being given Tonight, and his old SNL boss' company produces the show. He had way more performance experience before getting those jobs than Conan O'Brien, an SNL & Simpsons writer did, before he got the Late Night desk.
None of that matters if you don't find Fallon funny, or think he sucks as an interviewer. I find him overenthusiastic towards his guests. He sucks up too much.
PrestigiousChard9442@reddit (OP)
he's definitely bordering on obsequious in how complimentary he is in the interviews
Current_Poster@reddit
People are getting really bothered about it. :)
Graflex01867@reddit
I loved Craig Ferguson.
I liked Jimmy Fallon better before he had the tonight show. It wasn’t as prestigious, but I feel like he had more flexibility on his musical guests and some of his interviews. It was a little looser, but he could be funnier. He’s got some decent musical talent and improv, but the tonight show keeps him on a slightly tight leash sometimes.
plation5@reddit
Not interested that much I liked Conan a lot but not a fan of any of the current hosts.
slothboy@reddit
I haven't watched any of them since Letterman retired. I'll catch a clip on youtube now and then, but I'm honestly more likely to watch clips of Graham Norton than anything on this side of the pond.
k2aries@reddit
I enjoy highlight clips (on YouTube, Insta, etc) but never watch entire shows
SelectionFar8145@reddit
I don't get much of a chance to watch them anymore, but when I do, my go tos are Stephen Colbert, followed by Seth Meyers.
thatrightwinger@reddit
In my opinion, the last good late night "desk" show was Jay Leno. I thought he was hilarious. Conan has had some funny moments, but I think he got the "David Letterman bitterness," and I think that hurt his comedy.
I don't think any of the current gaggle of Late Night Shows move the needle at all.
KevrobLurker@reddit
DL's bitterness was a feature, not a bug.
thatrightwinger@reddit
I never found him funny. I even saw his show in New York in person once. Very disappointing.
Kestrel_Iolani@reddit
OP, I'm very curious as to what specifically you mean by the bothered phrase.
To answer your general question, I go to bed before most of them start. If it's funny, I'll see a clip the next day on YouTube.
PrestigiousChard9442@reddit (OP)
i mean bothered as in do you care about them, not whether they vex you
Kestrel_Iolani@reddit
Thank you for clarifying.
I have a soft spot for them because as a child, the special treat was being able to stay up late to watch Johnny Carson's opening monologue. But between work, school, and jobs, they've always been a low priority in my life. So, if something particularly good comes up, such as Stephen Colbert, I count on social media to provide a video afterword.
KevrobLurker@reddit
I don't care for Coal-burt. I'm an atheist, He's a heretical Catholic, and is Pharisaical about it. I would like him better if he had exhibited the guts to quit the RCC, I did.
His humor often boils down to You are stupid because you don't share my social democratic political opinions. I vote Libertarian. I think the donkeys and the GOP are sometimes right, and sometimes wrong. Often they are both wrong. I like my political comedians to take aim at all points on the political map - even mine!
Kestrel_Iolani@reddit
Oh, so you're ok with people calling libertarians the feral cats of the political world whose theories boil down to "i got mine, FU."? And, to steak from Scalzi: "They never got over the fact they weren’t the illegitimate children of Robert Heinlein and Ayn Rand; currently punishing the rest of us for it. Unusually smug for a political philosophy that’s never gotten anyone elected for anything above the local water board. All for legalized drugs and prostitution but probably wouldn’t want their kids blowing strangers for crack; all for slashing taxes for nearly every social service but don’t seem to understand why most people aren’t at all keen to trade in even the minimal safety net the US provides for 55-gallon barrels of beans and rice, a crossbow and a first-aid kit in the basement. Blissfully clueless that Libertarianism is just great as long as it doesn’t actually involve real live humans."
KevrobLurker@reddit
I'm OK with comedians slagging us off. I am an SF fan, and actually think Scalzi's a good writer. His politics suck, though. I prefer to think I'm an intellectual descendant of John Locke.
PrestigiousChard9442@reddit (OP)
it's very good and honestly surprising that they put all the interviews on YouTube
Kestrel_Iolani@reddit
It's not the interviews I watch. :-) For me, the only consistently fun part of those shows is the opening monologue.
jane7seven@reddit
It might be helpful to edit your post and add this comment.
We don't really use the word bothered in the way that you used it, and I think people are interpreting it as you wondering if they are annoyed by late night chat show. I knew what you meant, but I think a lot of people are confused.
PrestigiousChard9442@reddit (OP)
i added a note to the post saying this, is it not showing up?
I'll try edit it again.
SageRiBardan@reddit
I watch After Midnight streaming, that’s all. Never been a big fan of late night TV as I’d rather be out doing something or sleeping.
KevrobLurker@reddit
Taylor Tomlinson is cute and clever.
SageRiBardan@reddit
She really is.
Hamiltoncorgi@reddit
I watch Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers and Stephen Colbert. Haven't watched the tonight show since Conan. I used to watch the tonight show when Johnny Carson was on. David Letterman was really funny. Craig Ferguson was good too.
TheRealRollestonian@reddit
Currently, Meyers is great, but I can't do late-night comedy with politics right now. I still occasionally watch Corrections on YouTube, but I can't do the monologuing.
O'Brien is a legend, and I refuse to watch Fallon because of it. He knows what he did.
Colbert and Kimmel are solid, but you watch one show, you've watched them all. Stewart has become a massive crank. Unwatchable right now.
KevrobLurker@reddit
I was a fan of Myers going back to his SNL/Weekend Update days. I can't stomach how his political viewpoint affects his comedy. I think hosts should be making fun of everybody. Note: I am neither a Republican nor a Democrat.
newvpnwhodis@reddit
The late night shows used to be bigger in the culture, before streaming services and on demand content. They were pretty much the only original, entertaining program on tv after 11 on week nights. Their place in the cultural firmament has been much reduced in the last 20 years.
Bh1278@reddit
I used to watch The Tonight Show virtually every night when Jay Leno hosted! I’ve met him in person-total class act, great guy who I wish I could be real life friends with! Went to one of his stand up show, it was great!
Since Jimmy Fallon took over though I’ve only seen it a handful of times-mostly for his retro throwbacks he used to do and when he’s had Jay on as a guest. I will be honest, Jimmy has always looked very awkward and not comfortable in that hosts chair. I would say I absolutely don’t watch it regularly.
I also like Kimmel a lot too, I just forget he’s on these days! It was better when he had both his cousin and uncle on regularly but when I do see him he’s still great. I really think they should have given Jimmy the Tonight Show after Jay really retired, he’s Tonight Show worthy and I’d probably still be watching that show regularly if he’d gotten it.
KevrobLurker@reddit
Bring back Man Show Jimmy!
PrestigiousChard9442@reddit (OP)
yes it is somewhat interesting that The Tonight Show, given it's at least on paper the premium slot in late-night, didn't get Kimmel on
PourOutPooh@reddit
I see clips on youtube, other than that, I don't even have regular channels to watch a late show. digital antennas in the US didn't work out very well so a lot of us don't access the traditional local channels anymore.
HotButteredPoptart@reddit
I used to watch Conan every night when I was in highschool, now I can't stay up past 9. I probably wouldn't watch even if I could now though.
SilverB33@reddit
I'm not too big on late night shows, I'll tune in depending on whether or not I like the guest(s) they have on that night.
phishmademedoit@reddit
Haven't watched one in 25 years (I'm 39).
sweetcomputerdragon@reddit
I can't watch a chatty talk show if I wouldn't socialize with the host..
Single-Raccoon2@reddit
I like Stephen Colbert and watch his show occasionally.
AuggieNorth@reddit
I'll watch at least the beginning of Jimmy Kimmel most nights, but if it's not new and Colbert is, I'll watch him. I hardly ever watch Fallon, but if I'm still up at 12:35, I'll put on NBC for Seth Meyers.
FrontAd9873@reddit
nae bothered
GSilky@reddit
Used to like them when I was younger, now prefer more intelligent discourse than advertising for celebrities.
MontCoDubV@reddit
My Boomer parents are the only people I know who watch them.
terryaugiesaws@reddit
I don't find them the least bit entertaining or funny. It's just promotional material presented as scripted banter and i can't get past that.
I could get through a David Letterman show if I had to.
uhbkodazbg@reddit
I’ll check it out if there is a guest that interests me.
KevrobLurker@reddit
I used to be a big fan, going back to the days of Johnny Carson. I still record them on YouTubeTV, in case there is buzz about a particular episode's monolog or musical act. One can also watch choice bits online. But I only tune in or replay entire shows when a real favorite will be on the program.
I'm a political Libertarian, so I don't mind if the hosts make fun of any political position, but for a good decade they have concentrated their fire on the Republicans and treated the Democrats with kid gloves. That gets boring. I prefer Bill Maher's approach, where he lets anyone have it.
A big reason I stopped watching nightly is that the conversation level isn't exactly Jack Paar, Steve Allen or Dick Cavett. The last modern hosts I really liked were Letterman and Craig Ferguson.
I also have so much access to premium TV through streaming and Over-the-top replacements for cable, with virtual DVR software, that there is almost always something more interesing to watch. I follow an NHL team, an NBA team and my university's basketball team. That's a lot of screen time. In baseball season I follow my MLB team. I'll watch a movie or a game replay before tuning in the late night shows.
I'm retired. If I were still working I'd watch a lot less TV.
weirdoldhobo1978@reddit
I haven't watched a late night talkshow since Craig Ferguson left.
Scottenfreude@reddit
Almost all of them are politically captured tools of the left.
redditsuckspokey1@reddit
Have seen some of Conan and he is good. But for the most part I don't care for talk shows. But I have to say that Conan has a really good tv personality that makes him pretty likable.
Quenzayne@reddit
Not really interested. Used to watch Conan every now and then but that was back in the 90’s. Haven’t watched late night shows since.
RealAlePint@reddit
I used to watch them regularly but lost interest during the election. May give them another shot now
Adventurous-Window30@reddit
Yeah I stopped watching after Conan. The others were buttmunches in my opinion. Seth is ok but he’s the only one. I like the UK late night shows much better.
OK_Ingenue@reddit
The closest I get is listening on YouTube while I’m brushing my teeth.
Square_Stuff3553@reddit
In general, those shows receive a fraction of the audience they did years ago. People have dropped the cable television packages that include the standard TV networks
catiebug@reddit
Not really. I like the clips that come across my TikTok because it's usually centered around a guest I like. But I haven't watched any of them regularly since the early 2000's.
SecretaryBubbly9411@reddit
Can’t stand them, they’re just propaganda mouthpieces
PersonalitySmall593@reddit
As a teen during the time of Leno, Letterman and Conan when he first started.... but not since then.
Competitive-Radio-49@reddit
No, Kimmel is an unfunny cry baby
woodcuttersDaughter@reddit
Haven’t watched in years. I can’t stay up that late on weeknights
NemeanMiniLion@reddit
I enjoy them so long as I'm not completely fed up with politics, which is about 1/3 of the time. I enjoy most of the shows when I watch. I probably catch 20% of the episodes in any given year.
ArnoldoSea@reddit
I used to really like Conan's show. I even got to be in the audience once.
Djszero@reddit
Yeah, Conan was the last last late night show that I would watch.
jay5627@reddit
He and Craig Ferguson were the best
sgrag002@reddit
I might enjoy his podcast more than his shows.
princesspooball@reddit
I used to like Kimmel until ever joke was about Trump. I hate Trump but I need a break from politics.
EggStrict8445@reddit
They are overtly political and mostly for the elite coastal types. I never watch.
I grew up on Late Night With David Letterman in the 80s. What a show!
Caliopebookworm@reddit
I don't watch them so am not annoyed by them. Not that I don't like the hosts, I'm a morning working person so don't tend to be up that late.
BuddyJim30@reddit
I'm usually asleep by then. 😑
Tacoshortage@reddit
I used to like Johnny Carson, Jay Leno and Dave Letterman. Conan is ok. The other ones bother me.
Bayonettea@reddit
Those shows used to be entertaining, but they've all become too political these days so I don't watch any of them
Last one I did watch was probably Craig Ferguson
PandaPuncherr@reddit
I watch almost every day. Not live, but youtube clips. Just pick the segments i find interesting or certain celebrities i like.
yozaner1324@reddit
I used to watch Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, but I haven't done so in years. They can be a good way to gain awareness of current events in an entertaining way, but they're not sufficient as your only source of news. I don't really watch actual TV at all, so I mostly forget they still exist.
Guinnessron@reddit
I never watch any. They used to be fun and funny. Now it’s all super political and just shit on republicans/Trump.
Apocalyptic0n3@reddit
I'll watch clips sometimes (especially from Conan and occasionally from Kimmel like the Matt Damon stuff) but otherwise, they don't even exist to me. They're on after I'm asleep and they're generally not really that interesting.
Littleboypurple@reddit
Never cared about them before and really don't care about them now. I just find them kinda annoying
jfellrath@reddit
I'm not really interested in any TV, much less late night TV. Yeah, there's some funny stuff on them sometimes, but I don't need to know that much about celebrities.
Mysteryman64@reddit
I don't watch any. They've always felt like an infomercial that's trying to be slick about it.
SenorPuff@reddit
The only one I used to watch was Craig Ferguson
Aggressive_FIamingo@reddit
Who's that at the door?!
HurlingFruit@reddit
You cheeky monkey.
Scrappy_The_Crow@reddit
Ditto.
Nastreal@reddit
The only one who was actually funny.
j2142b@reddit
Craig was a good time.
OverSearch@reddit
None of them are worth staying up that late to watch, IMO.
citytiger@reddit
I watch Colbert every night. He brings humor and sanity to this crazy country.
dripintheocean@reddit
Unless they have an interview I car about, I don’t tend to watch the whole thing. My partner and I usually watch Colbert’s monologue before bed and we will occasionally watch his second segment the next day (meanwhile, sound of science, what’s going on over there?) but not always. Kimmel is hit or miss for me, though as I live in LA, we have been watching his monologues this week with the fires.
_pamelab@reddit
I used to watch Craig Ferguson until he left. These days I'm never awake that late.
machagogo@reddit
Back in the day? I enjoyed them. Carson and Letterman were very funny. I would stay up late and watch Letterman after Carson with the sound low so my parents di not know I was still awake.
Then there were some other good ones after, Conan had his moments as did Ferguson.
Nowadays? Mostly trash. I watch none of it live ever.
I watch the rare clip that goes viral on the Internet.
anneofgraygardens@reddit
have never watched these shows regularly. when I was in college I had a housemate who religiously recorded Conan O'Brien and watched it the next day, so I'd often watch it with her if I happened to be around. Only time in my life I saw a late night show fairly regularly.
qu33nof5pad35@reddit
Why would certain shows bother me if I don’t even watch them?
GreatGoodBad@reddit
i think they can be cool, used to watch Jimmy Kimmel a lot actually
GF_baker_2024@reddit
I don't watch them live, but sometimes I catch clips of Stephen Colbert's monologues and interviews on Youtube. I've liked him ever since the Colbert Report debuted on Comedy Central. He interviewed Diane Morgan earlier this month, and that was fantastic. She should be a regular guest.
BodhisattvaBob@reddit
I used to watch Letterman occasionally. Craig Ferguson and Jimmy Kimmel rarely. Stopped watching Kimmel after he brought on that lady who ran for president here recently on a platform of continuing her boss' policies of genocide and mass murder. He essentially gave that scum a PR version of cunnilingus, so F him.
TKInstinct@reddit
No, I kind of like Jimmy Kimmel but that's about it. Late night shows use to be a lot cooler and interesting than they are now it seems. I just don't get the appeal anymore.
D3moknight@reddit
I don't watch any of them. Occasionally there will be a funny clip from one that gets uploaded to YouTube later and I might click on that. Otherwise I haven't watched a single minute of any of them in years.
Scrappy_The_Crow@reddit
I'm wholly uninterested in them. I used to watch a few (e.g. Craig Ferguson), but that was before all of the hosts essentially became political hacks.
B0red_0wl@reddit
I usually don't watch them on TV, if there's a segment that's getting a lot of attention I might check it out on youtube and the clips I've seen are funny but I don't watch regularly.
ube1kenobi@reddit
I miss Craig Ferguson. But i literally stopped watching local and cable TV now. I don't know... it feels like it's no longer entertaining for me.
OldRaj@reddit
Haven’t cared since Carson retired.
Hotwheels303@reddit
I use to watch Jimmy Fallon especially because I’m a big fan of questlove and the roots which was his show’s band. When I had cable they were good mindless tv to have on and if I saw one of them was hosting a band I had never heard of would flip it on to see what they’re about. Getting rid of cable and moving to just streaming services put an end to that though.
dracarys289@reddit
I’ve never seen one and I’m almost 30
DegenerateXYZ@reddit
Jimmy Fallon makes me laugh sometimes. Just some casual light hearted fun. All the others seem to focus too much on politics and trying to push their views on their audience. I don't want to hear political rants when I'm just trying to relax. It's supposed to be casual tv, not serious.
PrestigiousChard9442@reddit (OP)
yeah i quite like Fallon
IT_ServiceDesk@reddit
I haven't seen one in a decade.
devnullopinions@reddit

Joy4everM0RE@reddit
Last Week Tonight is the only one I consistently watch. I do watch Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart sometimes.
Rhuarc33@reddit

I’ll watch a YouTube clip every now and then if someone I like was on the show. I think they’re mostly garbage though.
A_brand_new_troll@reddit
I watched Letterman, the Fergusan, and the current ones all suck.
PinchMaNips@reddit
I use to be a Kimmel fan, until his whole monologue started to revolve around trump. Not that it offends me or anything, it just gets old. I like Fallon the most out of all of them, and HATE the fat British dude, corbain or whatever.
Tl;dr - I don’t care for them.
RetreadRoadRocket@reddit
Haven't watched any of that since before Letterman retired.
clekas@reddit
I used to love Conan O'Brien's show. I would stay up late in junior high and high school (grades 7-12, ages 12-18) to watch it. I remember watching with great anticipation to see what would happen to his "In the Year 2000" sketch when we were, in fact, in the year 2000.
Recently, I don't watch them much - sometimes I will catch Colbert's monologue, or I'll watch clips when someone I like is on.
jane7seven@reddit
Same here! I loved Conan when I was a teenager and I would stay up late to watch on school nights, then talk to my friends the next day about it. His show was brand new at the time, and I think he had more appeal with younger viewers. I enjoy listening to his podcasts sometimes
pinkgallo@reddit
I’ll watch clips that come up on my fyp on TikTok. But I guess that’ll be ending soon 🫠
kgxv@reddit
You should probably know that your use of “bothered” won’t make sense to most Americans, as the word isn’t used that way here.
PrestigiousChard9442@reddit (OP)
yeah i realised, and put a note in the post's subtitle. Sorry I should have used a different word.

Foxfyre25@reddit
I don't stay up late enough. If there is something interesting that happens, it usually filters through IG reels.
RodeoBoss66@reddit
Bothered? I’m not bothered about late night television at all. Why would I be bothered?
I occasionally watch the talk shows like The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel Live!, although I usually just watch portions of them while I’m flipping channels or I catch clips from them online later. I grew up routinely watching The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and other shows like The Tomorrow Show (aka Tomorrow with Tom Snyder), back when television talk shows were more often just about having interesting and even deep conversations with celebrities and other interesting people than about promoting something and having a laugh. I also watch movies or anything else that might be on late at night.
Why are you asking, OP?
Plus-Emphasis-2194@reddit
Last late show I watched was Conan when I was in college back in 2008. I have completely forgot they existed. I’m usually not up that late on work nights anymore. My TV consumption has greatly decreased overall.
bookkeepingworm@reddit
All I know is Jimmy Fallon is inauthentic and could easily be replaced by a golden retriever.
Aggressive_Put5891@reddit
Most people I know don’t watch late night hosts. I may watch some funny clips from Fallon in short form after the fact (if it’s a person I admire), but that’s a rarity.
wwhsd@reddit
I don’t usually watch the entire show and I never watch them when they are aired. I only watch some of the segments they put on YouTube. I’ll probably watch 10-15 minutes of their shows combined in a day.
RustBeltLab@reddit
Not bothered at all. We need comedians mocking and questioning those in charge.
JohnMayerSpecial@reddit

I used to love late night shows, especially Conan O’Brien and Craig Ferguson. I still enjoy some of the shows that are on now but I don’t watch them with any sort of regularity (mostly because I’m not up that late). I do enjoy watching clips or interviews from them after the fact.
huhwhat90@reddit
Not interested. Decent late night died with Conan ending his show. Craig Ferguson was great and I have a new appreciation for Letterman nowadays, but none of the current lineup interest me at all.
sh1tpost1nsh1t@reddit
I don't watch them. I don't care about celebrity culture, their politics are mostly uninspired and corporate, and the current personalities/their writers either aren't good at comedy, or maybe they just don't do the type of comedy I like. Obviously someone likes them, or they wouldn't exist, they're just not for me. And that's fine.
The exception for me was Conan O'Brien. I liked his style of humor so I'd watch now and then. Again though, that's just personal taste.
GingerPinoy@reddit
Never ever watch. I couldn't care less about what celebrities have to say... And that's most of the show
LeadDiscovery@reddit
Back in the day I actually stayed up late enough to watch these shows... but this was the Jay Leno days, the time when Letterman was funny, not an angry complainer, when late night meant lampooning anything and everything and having fun.
Now, they are a cult of social advocates - pushing a narrative, chastising their targets... just not funny.
Life's too short, I'm looking for a light hearted laugh, not another deeply serious commentary on the ills of the world.
sabatoa@reddit
I stopped watching years ago. Letterman and Craig Ferguson were my favorites.
jahozer1@reddit
just watch the clips on the internet. Its not really like it used to be here. Many people cut out cable and just stream.
Current_Poster@reddit
I might see a clip on YouTube, but I haven't actually put myself down to watch a late night show since Letterman was on CBS.
msspider66@reddit
I use to watch Colbert and The Daily Show all the time, but stopped after the election.
To preserve my mental health, I limit my news to the weather, limited local news, and news directly related to my job.
BankManager69420@reddit
They’ve gotten way too political for my taste. I’m kind of sad about it because I actually really liked a lot of them. Colbert and Kimmel used to be great.
I’ll still watch reruns of Conan, and I’ll occasionally watch some Fallon, but in general the genre has gone downhill a lot
dystopiadattopia@reddit
That's kind of a boomer thing.
SansLucidity@reddit
i love kimmel & seth meyers
QuebecRomeoWhiskey@reddit
Every now and then there’s a funny bit I catch on YouTube but not a regular watcher
bjanas@reddit
Meh. I'll watch the occasional clip on youtube or instagram if it pops up, the robot overlords have a pretty good read on what celebrities I care about; typically it's like a two minute cilp that's fun enough.
But unless I'm literally visiting my boomer parents and watching cable? I'd never sit through a full ep.
tmrika@reddit
Depends on the host. Jon Stewart was great, nowadays I still enjoy watching Stephen Colbert and John Oliver. Everyone else is kind of annoying to me, so at most I’ll watch some clips of them if I’m interested in a guest they’re speaking to, but no more than that.
franky_riverz@reddit
They haunt me at night. The forced applause and late night jazz music force their ways into my dreams
greendemon42@reddit
I used to enjoy them when I lived in a place with cable. They don't work well in streaming, because they are really only relevant on their original air date and basically irrelevant by the following day.
HidingInTrees2245@reddit
I enjoy Kimmel and Colbert but only catch them here and there, maybe once a week or so. I don't stay up late just to watch them and if I'm watching something good, I won't change the channel to see them.
fromwayuphigh@reddit
Do not care one bit. Do not watch.
nylondragon64@reddit
They are all horrible. There hasn't been a good one since Leno and Letterman.
Real-Psychology-4261@reddit
I generally like them. I don't go out of my way to watch them. I like Colbert, Conan, Letterman, Ferguson, Oliver. Kimmel and Fallon are okay.
Nuttonbutton@reddit
They're fun sometimes but I go to bed early so I don't get to enjoy them
101bees@reddit
Sometimes I watch clips on YouTube when they bring animals in. They are often pretty amusing. Otherwise I don't really watch them.
FaithlessnessWeak800@reddit
I’ve never really cared to listen to celebrity interviews so I’ve never watched them.
Vexonte@reddit
I have never seen a talk show. I honestly wouldn't be able to distinguish between Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallen.
ramblingMess@reddit
I would occasionally watch Conan when it was on, and I’ll watch some SNL skits and musical guests after the fact when I’m interested in them, but I’m by no means an avid fan.
On a related note, a lot of Europeans on the internet, mostly Brits of course, vastly overestimate the modern cultural impact of late night shows on American culture for some bizarre reason. They seem to think it’s a biting indictment of American comedy when they see a clip of Jimmy Kimmel or James Corden being lame and unfunny, instead of a footnote that you can’t even reliably expect to be able to talk about at the water cooler with your coworkers.
big_sugi@reddit
And James Cordren is English to boot. The UK inflicted him on us.
Elixabef@reddit
I enjoy them, but very rarely actually watch them (I don’t watch much TV these days). Usually I just catch clips afterwards.
TillPsychological351@reddit
If I'm actually up late, I would hope I'm using my time better than watching a talk show.
stellalunawitchbaby@reddit
I don’t watch them, though clips will come up on TikTok or YouTube (or on Reddit) now and then but I never go out of my way to watch the whole show.
But I used to sometimes go to Conan’s show when it was taping if he had a guest or musical guest on I wanted to see. I worked at WB at the time and would just stand at the back with the tour guides that led the audiences in.
Tommy_Wisseau_burner@reddit
Why would I be bothered by them?
mactan400@reddit
Half of American voters favors for TRUMP. These hosts caters to the other half. There is still money to be made with half.
fuossball101@reddit
They're a mouthpiece for the liberal agenda. People don't always want politics thrown in their faces.
The_Bjorn_Ultimatum@reddit
I don't watch them. They aren't food anymore. I think Kimmel just gives a tear filled lecture every night now, doesn't he? Nobody wants to watch that.
rawbface@reddit
Why would they bother me? Are you implying they are harmful in some way?
I don't watch them. I haven't had cable TV in years.
Sabre3001@reddit
I used to watch them but since the election I can’t stomach them. Listening to someone like Seth Meyers warn about America turning fascist if Trump won for a year and then carrying on as business as usual with his work healthcare plan and high six figure salary makes me want to vomit. (I lean left if that matters).
saxmanB737@reddit
I enjoy watching some of the clips or interviews. They can be funny at times.
Blue387@reddit
I don't watch the Tonight Show any more after they dumped Conan and replaced him with Leno. I also don't care for Jimmy Fallon. I did watch some Colbert and Seth Meyers stuff during the election but nothing since.
Lugbor@reddit
I haven't had cable in ten years, so it's been at least that long since I watched one. I'm not really missing much.
marksman81991@reddit
They still have shows?
Thereelgerg@reddit
I'm not. I don't.
Ragtime07@reddit
No he’s an idiot and I don’t like his takes but that doesn’t bother me. Some of us still value freedom of speech regardless if it resonates with our values.
sandbagger45@reddit
Bothered? They’re not even funny.
wpotman@reddit
I find them boring and have always thought it was stupid to make politics entertainment to the level where we laugh about it every night. Sure, Mr. Limbaugh and Co went there first, but the entertainment industry played a significant part in shifting political dialogue from real issues to...you know, entertainment. Trump = entertainment for those that like his act.
WayneKrane@reddit
I’ve watched maybe 10 minutes combined of any of those shows. They seem more like advertising shows than genuine talk shows.
An8thOfFeanor@reddit
Never understood the concept. I'm gonna stay up past midnight on a weekday to watch some actor plug their latest movie?
The closest I'll get is watching the Larry Sanders Show, which is the perfect mocking of talk shows by a guy who was in line to replace Johnny Carson.
NittanyOrange@reddit
Never really watched them consistently, except for the Daily Show back when Jon Stewart hosted.
I might catch YouTube clips if they're shared or if someone I find interesting is on.
boatmansdance@reddit
If I'm watching the late local news for some reason, and one of their shows happens to come on because I forget to turn the TV off or change the channel is the only time I even remember they exist.
Southern_Blue@reddit
I watch some clips from some of the shows on youtube, mostly the monologues. I can't be 'bothered' to stay up late and watch them.
Ana_Na_Moose@reddit
I find some of them to be more annoying than funny (Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Myers, Greg Gutfeld, Bill Maher). But I also kinda like Stephen Colbert and really really like John Oliver and especially John Stewart. (Also Josh Johnson does an independent late night-y type of show that is amazing).
Shelby-Stylo@reddit
I'm surprised anyone watches them. I barely make it through the news.
Technical_Plum2239@reddit
I just record them and play them the next morning while I am doing stuff.
JimBones31@reddit
I like the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Sometimes I watch the Seth Myers one.
Traditional_Entry183@reddit
At different points in the past I watched Leno, Conan and Stewart and enjoyed it. But it's been a long time since I regularly have. Probably about 15 years. The new hosts don't really appeal to me.
Krishnacat7854@reddit
Bothered by them? Why would they bother me? I rarely watch them since I’m usually asleep but I sometimes see clips later that I often enjoy.
bitsey123@reddit
Every one of them is a waste of time and I never watch them.
IsisArtemii@reddit
It’s been decades since I was awake at that time of night. Love the highlights though!
MrLongWalk@reddit
I don’t watch them, why would I be bothered?
Kermit_The_Mighty@reddit
I've not watched them since the 1994 Winter Olympics, as David Letterman was having a pretty good time covering them with his mother. I'm a bit surprised these things still exist.
CinemaSideBySides@reddit
I've never cared for them, but they don't bother me. I just don't watch them.
PrimaryInjurious@reddit
I've never watched them and have no plans to.
DOMSdeluise@reddit
they do not bother me, and I do not watch them (as I do not really watch any TV except for sports)
sneezhousing@reddit
Why would I be bothered by them
osumba2003@reddit
I'm asleep.
SteampunkExplorer@reddit
I don't think I've ever watched one before. I'm not a big TV watcher in general, though.
I hear they're kind of sucky, but I have no point of reference for deciding whether it's true or not. 😂
bloopidupe@reddit
Why would I be bothered
Grunt08@reddit
I haven't watched them since I was a kid and Letterman or Craig Ferguson were on. The few clips of them I see nowadays online convince me I'm making the right choice.
Mountain_Man_88@reddit
Conan was the best. I used to watch his show if I happened to be up at the right time or otherwise I'd catch some clips on YouTube. Most other late night hosts these days are just kinda annoying.
BeenzandRice@reddit
No bother, no watchy
Ineffable7980x@reddit
Haven't watched one in years. Like many years (10+).
Technical_Plum2239@reddit
I watch them all the time and I am not bothered at all. What would bother me?
Even Jimmy Fallon (who I don't really watch) I am warming up to. He's positive, nice to his guests. Yeah he's cheesy and stuff but, fuck it.
So many people are down right nasty and mean these days, it feels really dumb to let his silly skits bother me.
Adept_Thanks_6993@reddit
I don't have cable but I watch clips or episodes of The Daily Show on Youtube sometimes
Cheap_Coffee@reddit
I don't watch them.
GhostOfJamesStrang@reddit
Couldn't be bothered. They're mostly lame and do puff interviews to publicize things I don't care about.
