Bubble Bobble…

Oh, this game!! My brother and were addicted. We played and played for hours one night and finally beat level 99 thinking we won the game. High fives and jumping up and down, only to find out we were moving on to level 100…we were livid. Stupid Bub and Bob…
lilbunnygal@reddit
I LOVED this game. It was one of the first games I ever played 🥰
phoenixrose2@reddit
This was just the best early video game. I loved the message the game gave after you finished level 100.
FancyClue4703@reddit
My partner and I set up the NES a few years ago and played this. I surprised us both by managing to finish the game. Still got it, apparently 😎
aottnm@reddit
I loved this game. I specifically remember adding a second player immediately before defeating the final boss to get the real ending.

This was my favorite and none of my friends had heard of it. I'll be downloading!

Best theme song ever!

This game was the GOAT. My sister and I would play it for hours.

I apologize in advance, but it’s worth it:

Hell Yeah! This game was my favorite for sleepovers!

Spent so much money on the Bubble Bobble arcade game at the Laundromat by our apartment in Junior High
rantingathome@reddit
This GenXer and his best bud (RIP) used to spend many lunch hours in high school playing the hell out of the arcade version at the corner store...
EternalSunshineClem@reddit
This was one of my favorites games!! This and Super Mario 3
Westlakesam@reddit
This fucking game. My brother would leave me with his when he went to his room with his gf when mom left him to babysit me. I would spend hours playing it and being honest I never fucking beat it.
HighSeverityImpact@reddit
To truly beat the game requires two player mode as well, so your brother should have helped you out!!
GenXen79@reddit
I handed a controller to my little sister with the instructions don't try to help, just keep from dying. And that kids, is how I beat Bubble Bobble.
RelevantFilm2110@reddit
Literally me and my younger sister, too. "Just keep jumping and don't get hit"
Maryssaraptor@reddit
Yeah couldn't be me that learned this the hard way ☠️
RalphWaldoEmers0n@reddit
One does not beat Bubble Bobble
MidnightCoffeeQueen@reddit
Yup. I only beat it with a second player helping me.
draculasbloodtype@reddit
My sister and I used to play this for hours together. I want to get matching Bub and Bob tattoos.
ScreenSignificant596@reddit
My fav game with my childhood bestie!

Mostly just waited to get the umbrella....
CrispyMongoose@reddit
As a little kid in the 80's, on my UK home computer (the Sinclair Spectrum), I had no idea you could even do this.
My entire game plan was getting as far as I could and then, hopefully, getting the green umbrella to take further than ever before.
I genuinely thought I was superbly talented at Bubble Bobble, at the time and as a solo player (only child). Life is full of little disappointments.
Maryssaraptor@reddit
The meanest level in the game
MidnightCoffeeQueen@reddit
Damn, i hated this level more than any other!
retropunk2@reddit
I can hear this gif.
Ronlaen-Peke@reddit
There's a version on the Switch that has the entire original game within the game. Music still slaps
Mandalorian6780@reddit
You can also get the Arcade Archives version.
Baldydom@reddit
Got this on the PS4, my girls absolutely loved it
Mandalorian6780@reddit
Nice! I might have to double dip and pick it up on my PS5. I really enjoy this game.
Trbochckn@reddit
Whaaaat!!!! Thanks. I'll be finding this tonight. My kids need to be introduced to this game.
OkDragonfruit9026@reddit
The modern version is a lot of fun too
OkDragonfruit9026@reddit
Puzzlu Bubblu: every bubblu! /j
Love it, still haven’t finished the last few levels.
Kabraxal@reddit
Love this game. Still have it somewhere too… time to reconnect NES.
NachoNachoDan@reddit
I just downloaded it for $3.99 on Nintendo Switch like three weeks ago. Its still awesome.
keepcalmscrollon@reddit
Whoa, I've been putting off buying it because I only knew about the most recent switch version. Are you saying they have the NES version for cheap? Thanks!
NachoNachoDan@reddit
Yes the NES version is on Switch. You can get it for like $4 in the switch store
Weird_Anteater_6428@reddit
Shut. Up. Must find it!!
NachoNachoDan@reddit
Just go to the store app and search for Bubble Bobble. I bought Contra for $4 too. Contra came with every Contra game including the Arcade titles formatted for vertical screens. I've been slaying Super C and my 7 year old knows the Konami code now 🥰
Weird_Anteater_6428@reddit
Thanks! I'll check it out. It was one of the few games my brothers would let me play with them 😁
PrestigiousGlove585@reddit
Download Delta and play it for free through an emulator on your phone.
NachoNachoDan@reddit
i love that game but i want to play it on a real tv screen
No_Operation7130@reddit
played it on my atari st...had a bug, crashed almost evert time at level 36...still played it like a maniac, always waiting for that chance to get an umbrella to skip level 36
keepcalmscrollon@reddit
God this game is one of my happiest memories. To the point I keep buying versions like on whatever platform I have. PS2, Wii, PC, and probably Android. Been putting off the Switch version because of the price and, honestly, I never recapture the magic.
The game itself is awesome, of course, but the nostalgia stems from when and how I played. Back before we were married, circa 2000, my wife and I rode the same train to work. There was a bowling alley across the street from our stop with arcade machines in front so you could see if the train was coming in time to catch it. We just played Bubble Bobble together while we waited. It was nice.
Xenomorph_Supreme@reddit
This game rocked. So addictive. And that soundtrack!
urngaburnga@reddit
The music has been my ringtone for awhile now lol
Xenomorph_Supreme@reddit
Nice!
Dangerous_Spring5030@reddit (OP)
Well, thanks, now the music will be stuck in my head for the day, or weekend, or….
St1Drgn@reddit
The music was the first thing to POP into my head when I saw the image.
Xenomorph_Supreme@reddit
You're welcome! I'm going to fire the game up later to work the music out of my brain haha.
hungrypotato19@reddit
My childhood best friend and I spent two weeks straight trying to beat this game. I still remember when we finally beat it. We went running around the neighborhood screaming "We beat it!"
Silk Worm was another one that we fought very hard to beat. That one took us ages.
StasisChassis@reddit
Dang it, it took nearly 30 years for me to forget that song just to have it come roaring back from the picture of a cartridge.
RageQuitRedux@reddit
The music is in my head now, thanks

Good game, but can you imagine if they had taglines like this on game media these days? That's not even box art, that's the actual friggin game. The sale has been made, why are you still advertising?
ethnicvegetable@reddit
When I broke my arm and severed an artery at 10 years old, the peds ward brought in an NES to my room. Three days after my surgery I played Bubble Bobble so hard my IV came out. They said I could go home after that 😂
SnooDoubts2674@reddit
The best game ever invented
Feed_Guido_69@reddit
I was literally thinking of this game a few days ago! Lol
SweetCosmicPope@reddit
This was my wife's favorite NES game growing up. I got it for her as a gift one year and she played it obsessively. I think she even beat it.
I'm not that good at it. I think at my best I got to level 75.
SundaySuffer@reddit
Was my fav game on my C128D, still have them both in a bananabox.
wearafuckingmask@reddit
Oh my god. Talk about unlocking a core memory.
Trbochckn@reddit
Absolutely love this game. I lost my copy a loooong time ago tho.
Has this ever been re-released or ami gonna have to emulate?
Dangerous_Spring5030@reddit (OP)
Some dude has an unopened one on sale for over $10k on eBay. I can’t believe it would actually be worth that much. Although you see how much money he gets for his stuff on 40 Year Old Virgin!

My sister and I used to play Bubble Bobble before school every morning. Love this game and the memories I have with my sister
NegaDeath@reddit
All of a sudden the main theme, a song that I have not heard in probably 30-40 damn years, popped into my head with almost perfect clarity. I wish my brain was that efficient elsewhere. in life.....
CrispyMongoose@reddit
I know it wasn't the first video game I ever played (according to my older cousin that may have been Q-Bert), but it is the first I played that I both remember and know for a fact I owned, courtesy Christmas 86 or 87. On my Sinclair ZX Spectrum (UK obviously). It remained my favourite for a long time.
It will always have a special place in my heart, I still to this day hum the music. And it gives me great satisfaction knowing that, even at such a young age, I had an eye for the classics.
Ayanami23@reddit
My mother and I used to play this game together nearly all day on the weekends. It’s one of my fondest childhood memories.
roonilwonwonweasly@reddit
OMG I thought I was the only one who knew about this game
linaraq@reddit
Omggg I loved this game! The only game I beat.
ScaleEnvironmental27@reddit
Just played this on my Switch last night.
Kuroude7@reddit
A local pizza place has the arcade version. I still drop quarters into that when I stop by…
Ph4ntorn@reddit
This was my favorite game on the NES, especially since it had a great two player mode that let my sister and I play at the same time. She was useless when it came to getting her share of hits on level 100, but it was still fun.
I find a reason to play it again every few years, and am always amazed that I still know how the enemies are going to come out for each level and where I like to stand.
I like Bubble Bobble 4 Friends on Switch and enjoy playing it with my daughter. But, it includes the original arcade game, and I find myself gravitating to that more than the newer game.
smolstuffs@reddit
Bubble Bobble was the GOAT
C0BRA_V1P3R@reddit
This one of the first games I got with my NES (the other being Ninja Gaiden). I remember me and friend getting to the last guy but being unable to kill his dumbass no matter how many lighting bolts we hit him with.
TycoBrahe@reddit
Pretty much here too! The only way I could ever beat that dude was using the NES Advantage controller and using turbo.
MidnightCoffeeQueen@reddit
It's between this and the legendary of Zelda as my favorite game.
My brother haaaated it when I would ask him to play it with me.
Mediocre-Victory-565@reddit
OMG, I LOVED THIS GAME!!!! Thank you for unlocking this memory OP <3

American_Greed@reddit
We'd play the heck out of this on the NES, then ride out bikes down to the 7-11, get a sugary slurpee, and play the arcade version. If there wasn't some chump taking up the space watching the keno screen anyway.
BrotherCool@reddit
The hours, days, and weeks lost to this game.
I loved it.
Nacho_Sideboob@reddit
This game was big for me, as it was the only game we had that I was better than my older brothers at.
Inevitable_Silver_13@reddit
Amazing game. Also loved Dr. Mario and Robornik's Mean Bean Machine
JoeSpic01@reddit
What about Bubble Bobble 2???
cleffawna@reddit
I had a game called Bust a Move 4 for ps1. Still haven't figured out how it was different from the bubble bobble franchise
The_Lapsed_Pacifist@reddit
Yeah I had that one. Fun game.
Dangerous_Spring5030@reddit (OP)
I know. Why we decided to play the sequel after our mental breakdown with this one, I’m not sure, but of course we just had to rent it and try!
ManBearWarPig@reddit
So much fun
Ryuujin_13@reddit
I never really got into it, but without it we wouldn't have Bust-A-Move, one of my favourite puzzle games, so I salute its legacy.
llllllllIIIIIIl@reddit
I instantly hear the song of the 1st level as you drop in on a bubble!
GeminiSwirl@reddit
Love that game!

Between this and Dr. Mario, you have the soundtrack in my brain.
mariam67@reddit
I still get this song stuck in my head sometimes.

This game was so amazing.
exqvisitely@reddit
This was my favorite game at the arcade. I never came anywhere close to beating it, but my mom was pretty good at it. (She had a knack for video games.)
philouza_stein@reddit
First game that was my own in the house. I always played my brother's games but it was my birthday and mom took me to toys r us to pick any game I wanted. I agonized over my choice for forever and eventually landed on bubble bobble for some reason.
That's really my only memory of the game. I dont think I played it much lol
Acceptable-Double-98@reddit
I loved this!

My sister used to beat that game every day after school. It was pretty impressive.
