If the spanagram has the word generation as the big clue/category, they can’t use it for the other words. So they can’t use Gen. And X is too short. There is a formula!

Silent wasn’t skipped over, it started with greatest. The only one that was skipped was Gen X, which makes the puzzle possible. It’s the gap.

Strands only uses terms that can be found in the dictionary, so I guess “Gen X” doesn’t have an entry (same with Gen Z, but they did have “Zoomer”).

No idea about “Silent” not being included…that is definitely a word!

It also doesn’t use proper nouns, and except for the spangram, everything is a single word. Only the spangram would have a space in it. I don’t know if you’d consider Gen X a proper noun, but that’s my guess as to why it’s not included. silent could have been, but also, the letters fit as they are, so it didn’t need an additional term to make the puzzle work.
