Best state to haul fuel in?

Currently pulling 74k in Florida, all I do is work and go home, have almost zero life outside of work. I would happily do that if I was making a significant salary but 74k in Florida is pretty tight. I’m willing to relocate in the next year or two if I could find a better arrangement
Prestigious_Cup_5265@reddit
That's horrible. I'm in Florida and made like 80k and average less that 40 hours a week
KingNebyula@reddit (OP)
Damn which company is that? I’m averaging 60 hours a week lol
Prestigious_Cup_5265@reddit
The big grocery chain here.
KingNebyula@reddit (OP)
Oh I see, they only hire drivers from their docks right?
marose86@reddit
Hilco Transportation if you want more information I can send my husbands number.
Alarming-Remote-3464@reddit
NC? I didn’t think Hilco paid that well….
marose86@reddit
Making 6 figures so it's more than what the poster is and he is looking for more, just thought it was a shot for him.
Alarming-Remote-3464@reddit
For sure. I just didn’t know Hilco was that good. 👍🏼
Rotten_PorkChop@reddit
That's Florida for ya. Been living here for awhile and all our local driving jobs suck in pay unless you do ltl. I'm over the road hauling hazmat. Much more money it.
KingNebyula@reddit (OP)
What kind of money are you pulling in doing otr hazmat?
LeftTelephone9149@reddit
Sheetz pays pretty good too
Alarming-Remote-3464@reddit
Need crazy time in the saddle to be considered. Ever see a Sheetz tank driver without gray hair? 🤣🤣

WA state will easily get you to 100k hauling fuel, especially with experience
Due_Change6730@reddit
WA resident here. Can confirm
Unfair_Fisherman_605@reddit
Both Pilot and Circle K in Az and Texas start guys at 105k, I am currently hauling fuel for a contractor for a Railroad. Pay is Shit at 18 an hour. I am just waiting on my application from a few other companies to jump ship. This place is disorganized and horrible maintenance.
Wheres_Jay@reddit
That is how I got my start in fuel. Once you put some time in there, you'll have experience. When you get to a better carrier, get as many cards as you can, then look for the best job. Took me a total of about 4 years to get where I am. Been at this same company 7 years now. Hourly pay, no slip seat, and take my truck home.
Wheres_Jay@reddit
I made over 100k hauling fuel in the DFW area.
DaddyFlaco69@reddit
Bro you mind sharing company name? Or another company you recommend? I also live in the DFW area. 2 years of experience and I’m working on getting my endorsement rn
Wheres_Jay@reddit
There are several. If you have no prior experience in fuel, I would recommend UPT, Groendyke, Dupre, Pilot, Gemini, or maybe QW Transport. I work for a small, family type company. You would need some experience and a lot of cards to get on where I am at. I'll be glad to help you any way I can.
DaddyFlaco69@reddit
You sure did, thank you 🙏

$100k+ is pretty common for fuel haulers in Colorado/Wyoming.
KingNebyula@reddit (OP)
Colorado would be a dream to be honest, I’ve heard the cost of living is high there but I can’t imagine it’s much worse than Florida
DoctorZebra@reddit
Only thing about Colorado is that if you haul fuel here, you're almost certainly going to get good and throwing chains.
ErnestoLaganas@reddit
130 plus I'd say. Yes, you're going over Loveland pass.
DoctorZebra@reddit
Loveland, Berthoud, Rabbit Ears, Vail, Kenosha, Monarch, Poncha, La Veta, Monument Hill…. Never mind the drives into Wyoming.
Alarming-Remote-3464@reddit
Why not haul crude in ND? $$$
SleepingGiante@reddit
No any good ones? Or ones that hire with no tanker experience
Alarming-Remote-3464@reddit
No tank experience I’m not sure… one I see hiring is called Badlands. Must be able to road test an 18 spd. IIRC like $500+ a day or something + living. There’s a few. Just Indeed “hazmat CDL” in ND and some come up.

Look up Eagle transport in SC
Dezzolve@reddit
😂😂😂 the man wants to make money don’t send him to Eagle
Baconated-Coffee@reddit
Probably already working for Eagle at that pay rate
Dezzolve@reddit
Switch the 7 and 4 and maybe.
Got screwed by Eagle in Selma, NC.
Came off OTR to work for them, Terminal manager said I’d have no problem pulling an easy 2k/wk.
I never called out, never dropped loads, and even worked extra days. I was on nights and worked weekends so I even got the extra pay for that.
It was rare I grossed over $900/wk, and I started in the spring when business really starts to pick up.
When I was hired they promised me a weekly minimum base pay of $1000 for 6 months. When I asked about it they just said “oh we never said that.”
Meanwhile they were all banging each other in the terminal and gossiping like middle schoolers.
Eagle sucks.
Ton_in_the_Sun@reddit
74k to haul a bomb is nuts. I always thought about getting my hazmat but fuck I’ll just keep hauling beer
No_Control3566@reddit
Yes, that is nuts I was damn near making that hauling refine back in the early 90s , 5-2,5-3 schedule 10-12 hr shifts So Ca.
vfittipaldi@reddit
My friend makes $40 per hour in Oregon.
Castingnowforever@reddit
That's actually pretty great pay honestly. It sucks that you don't have too much of an outside life. Do you get a 2 day weekend? If you do, than you're definitely doing very well.
vault151@reddit
74k to haul something that can possibly blow up if anything goes wrong is not pretty great pay. Florida is also one of the most expensive states to live in. He should easily be making 6 figures.
KingNebyula@reddit (OP)
I have a two day weekend which would usually be fine but I run night shift so I’m used to missing a good portion of the daytime
Castingnowforever@reddit
I get it especially with nightshift. I used to run 3 days a week with an Amazon Freight Partner in Denver, but it was only about 60k a year. Honestly wasn't all that bad and the time off was incredible. I can't find anything here in California that comes close and have been thinking about moving to Florida. I make content though and I feel like I'd have an easier time shooting in Florida. So 2 days for me is great as I can shoot at least 3 to 5 sketches during that time. That's all I meant by 2 days is nice... for me not for everyone. Totally understand it not being great. Hope you find something better driver.
KingNebyula@reddit (OP)
I would do unfathomable things to work 3 days a week for 60k, I resell on eBay in my little free time and those 4 days would be priceless
Particular_Minute_67@reddit
Eh 2 days isn’t enough to recouperate over the bullshit week.
Efficient_Ostrich_54@reddit
Inebriation.
NoFuqsGiven101@reddit
Apply for circle k in Florida I see them always hiring on indeed in Florida and Georgia advertising 105k a year.
Redsoxdragon@reddit
North east we flirt with $150k regularly, but most drivers take the 4-2 schedule and pull around $130
KingNebyula@reddit (OP)
Which part of the north east? Any companies you’d recommend looking into?
Redsoxdragon@reddit
Depends on the amount of experience. Out of RI, noonan starts at $35/45. Fabian starts at $40-50 but they're very picky like you need a bunch of years under your belt.. I know dudes with Cumberland farms near $40 an hour and a bunch of companies pay per load. They're in the $120k ballpark
I heard Boston pays way more but i ain't trying to deal with getting to revere everyday
FLATL1N3@reddit
Can confirm I'm at Noonan but not one of the yards that goes to Boston all the time. I did 135k last year
Some_Loan@reddit
Definitely not Connecticut. Most of us top 100k but the only people get close to 150 never see home. I don't even think it's possible to get 150 at my company.
rc5625@reddit
You should make $100k in Florida, check other haulers pay scale and off days to get a balance lifestyle
jcsworld417@reddit
I know several Pilot drivers in Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, Illinois, Texas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, all making over 100k a year for a 40 hour week.
HistoricalAlarm21@reddit
I grossed 125k in 2024 working an average of 57.5 hours a week. Hourly driver working out of boston.
Present-Ambition6309@reddit
Alaska
chillary_shank@reddit
I did about 80k working 4 on 4 off in Illinois, Chicagoland area:
GroundbreakingSir386@reddit
Just remember no state tax in Florida
Conscious_Grass_853@reddit
Florida probably cause it’s already hot as shit over there. So if you crash, the temperature will only slightly rise.
