Similar Sites to Reddit that Allow Editing and Deletion

I am seeking a site similar to reddit but where I can edit and delete my own posts and comments. I was quite annoyed to learn that, even if I delete a post or comment on Reddit, it still remains visible, just without my name attached. I stopped using this site for quite awhile due to this. To me, it just seems like a basic feature. As for alternatives, they can be either regular forum sites or something more like this, but they should be general in nature, so that I can join various groups and/or subscribe to different sorts of topics. I am also totally blind, so I would prefer a text-based site as opposed to one that focuses on images.

Headcycle
It even has drafts for top level posts.

Wait, what? That's not how Reddit works.
When you delete a comment it disappears. If someone else has responded to it a "[deleted]" placeholder is swapped in as a replacement. I just tested this. Here's a recent comment of mine that I just deleted:

What are you referring to?
For awhile there were sites that were scaping and logging deleted comments externally (ceddit, removeddit)- but even those were only storing one version and you could work around that by editing over your comment before deleting it.

Third comment. Going to delete the one above

Can confirm you are correct. It shows [deleted] for both the username and the message.

Yeah, dunno what OP is talking about.
The only think I can think of is when you delete your entire account I don't think it drops the posts- just hides the userid.

I first saw reference to it here. Please excuse some of the extremely vulgar comments. It seems people have forgotten how to be civil these days.
"Reddit can reverse deletions. This is a well-known fact. So even if you use something like Power Delete Suite to delete all your posts and comments (and I prefer Pkolyvas’ fork of it), Reddit admins can just restore whatever posts and comments they want without you ever knowing. They still “appear deleted” in your profile, but do a Google search for them in a browser that isn’t logged into Reddit, and they’ll show up whole and undeleted."

This is from another Reddit thread.
"When you delete a post, it no longer is listed on the subreddit or your profile, and your username/body of the post are removed, however all the comments remain, and people with the link to the thread can still access it and comment on it. Any comments made by the OP still remain, but they no longer indicate they are from the author."

From what I heard, if you create a post, you can't entirely delete it. If someone comments on it, the post still remains. I have also seen comments with Deleted as the name, but the rest of the comment intact. In all fairness, I have also seen "comment removed".

You should probably try this stuff rather than relying on hearsay.
This is sort of true, but not in the way you think. If you delete a thread it disappears from the subreddit and search, making it more or less unfindable. If someone has responded to the thread, they can still access the thread through their comment history. But they cannot see who posted the top level thread and what was posted other than the thread title
Here is an example of a direct link to a comment in a thread I deleted:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Test_Posts/comments/1i42shu/test_1/m7rs806/
Note that you can't tell I posted it or see the post text.
But you can see the title
Those are people who deleted their account but didn't first delete their posts. Deleting your account leaves all your posts/comments but strips your name off of them. There are 3rd party tools to mass overwrite and delete your posts/comments if that's what you want to do
Those are comments that were removed by the Reddit admins for some reddit TOS violation.
Most of what you are complaining in your post above isn't really true.
dandylover1@reddit (OP)
As I said, I have also seen full comments, just with the name deleted. That is why i believed what I read. Perhaps, they changed the system since then.
DoINeedChains@reddit
And again, those are people who deleted their account. Which does not remove all the comments that user made but masks who made them. The scenario you described.
And all of this functionality has been around for the decade+ I've been using this site.
There is no case where the text of a post or comment is specifically deleted by a user, that that text remains visible on the site.

My platform VeriForo is alot like reddit and allows you to delete/edit topics, subforums and replies.
It does require a one time fee of $2.99 to verify users are not bots and keep the platform running.
Its launching in february, with a beta test coming this month.
If you have questions let me know!
fork_yuu@reddit
Gotta pay to try without knowing what it's about lol
That sounds dead on arrival
Danny7092@reddit
We already have people joining the community and are in it for the long run.
Its a reddit like platform without bots & algorithms against misinformation, that will listen and work toghether with the community.
You can also view the coming soon page or wait till launch to see more.

Tildes has this
speakbits@reddit
I polled users a while back and most agreed it's complete BS that reddit does this. I implemented it in SpeakBits to allow for fully deleting all posts and comments. There's even options for nuking just your account data or both your data and account in the settings.
dandylover1@reddit (OP)
I just went to Speakbits and it looks absolutely wonderful! You even took the time to make it fully accessible with screen readers! I will definitely be joining today and telling my friends about it.
Chattabox_Com@reddit
Hey, Chattabox will allow editing within the first 5 minutes of posting as well as deletion.
Chattabox - Reddit Alternative (hopefully killer haha) with dynamic post types that removes silos within Arenas (similar to Reddit's communities) and fosters in-depth discussions.
Waitlist open for early supports who will get exclusive perks.
BlazeAlt@reddit
Lemmy has 42k monthly active users
Feel free if you have any questions
UnflinchingSugartits@reddit
Blaze.... shouldn't you explain how deleting posts on lemmy do not federate ....... to other instances.... meaning the deleted post will still be visible...
LibertyLizard@reddit
It normally should. There might sometimes be hiccups that mean this doesn't work perfectly 100% of the time, but I don't think this is a widespread issue.
BlazeAlt@reddit
Deleting of posts does federate, I'm not sure what you mean?
chesterriley@reddit
You could just edit your post and replace your text with garbage.
