I started with the first one, but I can’t imagine how many hours I spent lost in this game. I ran it up on an emulator a few years back and did a full play through and it’s still every bit as good as I remember.

I remember spending most of my time leveling all the characters and espers in the dinosaur forest. I equipped the Atma weapon on Celes, and she just carried the others.

I just said the same thing. I actually looked up "how to write a movie script" on the Web when I was 10 or so because I wanted a movie to exist (I did not yet know about limited series). I got a few dozen pages in and I'm sure it was terrible, but mercifully that document is lost to time.

I spent a summer renting this game (as FF III) every weekend and trying to beat it Friday night, Saturday and Sunday.

The local rental place only had the one copy though. If I didn't get there quickly after school, or didn't have money that week, someone else would inevitably rent it and erase my saves.

Now that's a true 90s kid problem.

Same! The rental place was some no-brand gas station on the other side of town that I had to hike a mile and a half to get to, so it really sucked when they didn't have it.

Probably my favorite game of all time. Any tune from the soundtrack (which I own, on 3 CDs, imported from Japan in the 90s) always brings back so many memories.

I would love a proper reimagining of this game if I thought anyone could do it without fucking it up. I also think it would make a cool limited series on Netflix or something, with the same insurmountable caveat.
