What Are Your Favourite PC Accessories?

Title says it all. What are your favourite accessories, (think cable management, RGB lights, audio equipment, etc), that are basically a must for your setup? Cheap or expensive alike!
uzi_on_my_instagram@reddit
Upgrading to a wireless Headset was the best thing ever
NisRedditor113@reddit (OP)
Would AirPods work if you play solo? Or would you recommend an actual pair?
uzi_on_my_instagram@reddit
I never thought about that lol ! But yes it would 100% work I bet AirPods even sound good on discord haha.
I’m just so used to a proper gaming headset that I would not want it any other way
NisRedditor113@reddit (OP)
Nice, because I was debating between using my airpods, or buying a speakerset
kaleperq@reddit
A speakerset will defentely be better than airpods if done correctly. You need quite a lot of space for the surround sound setup, a bunch of farely expensive speakers, a subwoofer, a dac and an amp. Defenetely more expensive, but for gaming I'd say it's better since Apple doenst like anything other than Apple and there is probably a considerable amount of latency.
NisRedditor113@reddit (OP)
Yeah no, that's completely fair. Even better is that my dad is probably going to hand down his old Logitech Z337 Speakers. So I guess I'm lucking out whenever he upgrades.
kaleperq@reddit
I just saw you bought a wireless keyboard. Idk how mutch it cost, but the thing is that if you aren't gonna travel why should it be wireless. And since it's Bluetooth it's probably a crappy cheap keyboard that will defenetely be worse than the wired you had because if latency. And wireless keyboards since you don't move them are just a hassle to keep charged and it's a battery to eventually die way before a wired keyboard.
There are lots of good mechanical keyboards out there, most not from gamer companies, giving better switch feel and the same 1000hz refresh rate. And also some hall effect ones. Depending on what you spent and if it's a membrane one you should consider buying a different one.
tinyroadbox@reddit
Bluetooth latency will be a factor. A big thing a lot of wireless headsets will have is a 2.4Ghz dongle which DRASTICALLY reduces any noticeable delay. We’re talking roughly 20ms vs 200ms.
AirPods definitely win for convenience though, especially if you already have them!
BastianHS@reddit
Wireless headphones are a must
Scarabesque@reddit
Do you happen to know if there is a decent RF headset with noise cancelling?
I'm wireless at work where latency is not an issue as I'm not doing any gaming, but at home I still have wired and would like to ake the switch - but would love ANC as well.
cordell507@reddit
Steelseries arctis pro novas have ANC. It's not super good ANC though.
Brostradamus_@reddit
Not many with active noise cancelling that I know of, but my Audeze Maxwell block out a lot of sound just by virtue of their closed back design, snug pads, and large drivers.
JarRa_hello@reddit
Sadly, there is almost no options for open back headphones. And i can't go back to closed back. Open backs are just better if you value sound quality.
buzzjam-@reddit
Hell yea! Wireless headphones in general have been the best invention ever for me. I used to hate my wired headset and headphones. Every time I moved it would no doubt snag on something.
Palantiri1890@reddit
Upgraded my setup in a few ways this last month. I switched over to iems for audio, using the sennheiser ie200s. Bought aftermarket cable (the stock cable didn't wrap around my ears at all, just curved way above them) and eartips for it. Switched to a keychron k8 with a wristrest, makes a big difference for comfortable typing. And switched my mouse to a logitech superlight 2, from the $40 wired mouse I was using.
Taklot420@reddit
Wireless mouse. Saving for a wireless keyboard (also with 2.4Ghz dongle for less lag)
SevroAuShitTalker@reddit
I recently got an keychron qmax wireless, and it was the best investment I've made in awhile
cedan98@reddit
Yeah wireless mouse was a huge upgrade for me. I was hesitant because of the input lag but I feel no difference!
NisRedditor113@reddit (OP)
Yeah man. I use a Wireless Mouse with USB, and it's really smooth to use. Haven't got to use the keyboard yet, but it is bluetooth. I'm waiting to see how it works
infinitetheory@reddit
I was a diehard heavy mouse believer for a more than a decade, I love all my buttons and space for my hand and lights and stuff. but just recently I needed a new mouse because my Naga Trinity started double clicking, so I got an Aerox 3 wired because it was the cheapest steelseries mouse I could find.. and I'm never going heavy again. it's like holding air, my hand doesn't get tired from gaming anymore, the air holes keep my hand from getting sweaty, it's almost perfect. point being I won't sacrifice the lightness for wireless, if the battery is going to double the weight I'll keep the cable. for the price especially. I'm looking out for the best of both worlds though still.
for me, I really like my keypad. I have a Tartarus V2, and I actually don't like the keys at all but I put up with it to be able to have it off to the side and keep that ergonomic position without moving my keyboard. as a bonus, I use ESDF for gaming and by having a separate input device I don't have to remap every game individually
NwLoyalist@reddit
Light mice are so the way to go. I spent a pretty penny on the Razer DarthAdder V3 Pro, but holy shit. Worth every penny. Now if I have it plugged in to charge, I can actually notice the weight and drag of the cable and I could never go back.
For Keyboards, I've fallen in love with Keychron. I now have 3. First one was a 75% wired with Brown switches. Second one is a 100% with Bluetooth, low profile, and red switches bought for work and travel. The third one is another 75% with Bluetooth, brown switches, and low profile. This was to replace my first 75% because I wanted the option of Bluetooth even though it's usually plugged in, and I just really like the low profile.
Least-Profession-296@reddit
I got my first custom keyboard a few months ago, and I'm never going back. I got the Keychron Q1 HE 75% with magnetic Hall Effect Switches. Being able to have different actuation points and travel distances based on if I'm gaming or typing on the same keyboard is a game changer. It does take some time to set up different profiles, but it's well worth it.
Reasonable_Tank_3530@reddit
I got the Logitech g pro x superlight. 2.5 years and it still works like a charm. When this one dies I don't see a reason to stray away from a mouse such as this, it's endgame
Elc1247@reddit
I prefer the Endgame Gear OP1. Its a superlight mouse with swappable switches, so you can choose how your clicks feel.
edjxxxxx@reddit
Second ESDF user I’ve seen in two days. Maybe the universe is telling me something…
infinitetheory@reddit
I won't say it's superior for everyone, but I think it just makes more sense. plus I can't do pinky on Ctrl, having A open for melee or crouch is night and day better than curling down. plus so many wasted buttons on the right side of the keyboard with WASD..
kaleperq@reddit
Wireless mouse. Yes defenetely. Wireless keyboard? No why it's just another thing to charge and a battery to die. You're not gonna move it (at least not a lot) so the cable doenst bother at all.
FinancialRip2008@reddit
opposite for me. wireless mice are fine (i use one), but the mouse always sits on the same 1' area. it's not a big deal to have a wire.
the keyboard... i type from my lap. it's convenient to chuck the board off to the side when i'm using its desk space, and there's no wire to tangle up with my headphones or my phone charger or whatever. i have a board with a 0 latency dongle and rechargeable batteries that last for about a year... so no downsides.
not sayin you're wrong, just different preferences
ConfusedDuck@reddit
Any specific reccomendations?
Ok_Awareness3860@reddit
Just bought the Logi Superlight 2 and I never realized how much I was missing out on. Why did I stubbornly use a wired mouse for years???
Taklot420@reddit
I turn off mine and it lasts half a year (Razer Basilisk from Aliexpress that I bought in 2020)
BigGuyWhoKills@reddit
My last home had a lot of 2.4 GHz noise so every wireless mouse lagged for me. Except for the IR mouse, but it had LoS problems. Keyboards too.
I bet RF mice are better now, but I'm so comfortable with the cord that batteries seem like a deal breaker.
i_need_a_moment@reddit
I’m surprised keyboards lagged considering they don’t really need that much polling compared to a mouse. Some mice now like Logitech mice come with a USB adapter that you can attach a cable to and use as an extension cord for the wireless receiver.
BigGuyWhoKills@reddit
Lag is the wrong word. It would just miss keystrokes. It was confusing at first. I thought the keyboard was going out or the battery was dead. In games it was maddening.
Commander_in_Beef@reddit
I use wireless, with my USB dongle being used on one of my Monitors USB ports. Since it's super close to the mouse that way, I get zero interference.
i_wear_green_pants@reddit
About a year ago I decided to go fully wireless. And I love it. The desk is so much easier to clean. Also I regularly carry my PC to the living room to play some couch games. Having a wireless mouse and keyboard makes it much easier.
ChickenDenders@reddit
Mouse “bungee” holder is good too. Just a thing that sticks underneath my monitor that holds my wired mouse cable in place. Always have enough slack, never gets caught on anything
Key-Can5684@reddit
Actually switched back to wired. They are just better and lighter. I see the advantages of wireless tho.
Ciertocarentin@reddit
My computer accessories aren't "favorites" or fashion statements, or for that matter, trivial junk like RGB case lighting or designer cables to imply to my friends my height on big dog's hill. They're tools I use with my computer.
So... none.
Least-Profession-296@reddit
Keyboard and mouse. I never knew how much better custom keyboards were until I wanted one that matched my build, and it required me to buy one. They are expensive but so worth it.
WaltersPomeranian@reddit
I can not game without my Azeron
InclinationCompass@reddit
Speakers cause I listen to music for 5+ hours daily
Ball_ChinnedKid@reddit
RGB lights used to look cool to me. Then I get older and turn all of them off. Next build I will just use regular fans.
RhysPeanutButterCups@reddit
I got an RGB LED strip to put under my desk and, outside of the first week I've used it, I can probably count on one hand the number of times I've turned it on.
smashybro@reddit
Funny because I have a similar story. Got my current desk like 4 years ago and put a LED strip on the back of it. Looked cool when I first tested it, but then I used it like twice before realizing I hated how ugly the shadows casted off from my cables (managed just under the strip) looked.
Built my first PC a month ago and while redoing the cable management (ditched the idea of super tight cable management with Velcro cable ties since it was pain to add or remove cables and went with a cable organizer tray under the table so cables are at least out of sight), I finally remembered that I even had this LED strip and prompted got rid of it.
Elc1247@reddit
RGB makes your PC case look cool for that 10 minutes a year that you look at it. lol
Burcea_Capitanul@reddit
Most used: dualshick 4, the thing I like the most:my green sleeved GPU cables.
Mountain_Daikon_1008@reddit
OLED 4K monitor. Don't think I can go back to normal gaming monitors. The color and the black are so nice on OLED.
weaseltorpedo@reddit
My big Gamers Nexus desk pad. It's like the rug in Big Lebowski, really ties the battlestation together.
moonwatcher1002@reddit
Thank you for supporting them and their efforts big dawg
weaseltorpedo@reddit
First time I watched a GN video was when I was looking for a guide on how to delid and liquid metal my brand new 7700k. Followed along and it worked perfectly the first attempt.
At that point it became my favorite tech channel, by a lot.
A few t-shirts and a couple desk pads (bought one for my buddy at the same time) are the least I can do. Plus the merch is sick, obviously.
SGT_DABBER710@reddit
Best thing I ever got for my setup was a cushioned foot rest. Not even close to the most expensive item but close to the top for effectiveness.
BastianHS@reddit
TKL keyboard has been a nice addition, more space to flick aim. Not very good for production, but great for gaming
Ozzie808@reddit
idk if this counts as an accessory, but went down a deep mechanical keyboard rabbit whole during COVID and now I have two custom KBs and want more...
Signal-Watercress-90@reddit
names, brands, options?
DiabloTy@reddit
Yup, totally counts
Guy_PCS@reddit
5.1 speaker system.
LazyDawge@reddit
Wireless headset with hotswap batteries.
Basically just pop in the fresh battery in the short time it takes to turn on the pc and your charging time is now 0 seconds, cause mine usually lasts the entire day and more.
Labinemagique@reddit
Monitor.
Henry_MFing_Huggins@reddit
Can't go wrong with a keyboard, too.
Qminsage@reddit
MX Master 3S was a great investment. I just figured out that I had Bluetooth and the adapter conflicting with each other, and now it works like a dream!
inactive_directory@reddit
Not great for gaming though. I keep my Logitech G Pro on my desk for when I'm playing anything.
Just seems like theres a tiny bit more input lag on the 3S.
imclockedin@reddit
been using the 1st gen for almost 10 years
Strooble@reddit
The silent clicking on this thing seemed like a drawback to me at first, but I absolutely love it now
azaerl@reddit
Could never go back to a basic mouse for productivity. For infinite scroll even at minimum. I also have the MX keyboard, and again for productivity I couldn't go back.
I'm not a serious gamer but am tempted to get a gaming mouse as well though just for something lighter for FPSs
Chazay@reddit
I can’t get mine to work properly with my PC. It was working flawlessly on my Mac 😩
Angrywolf8@reddit
Yup very good mouse indeed! Been using mine for over 5 years now and its still working fine, Cost a lot +-90€ but it was more than worth it.
CanoeLake@reddit
A decent set of speakers.
I was using the speaker on my monitor for a long time since I mostly play strategy games and I never really had an issue. The speaker on the monitor wasn't tinny (surprisingly) and it freed up extra space on my desk by not having separate speakers, so I was perfectly happy.
However, I spent $30 (CAD) on a set of Creative Pebble speakers recently and, my god, what a difference. I can never go back.
DeletedTaters@reddit
Monitor arms. It just frees up a lot of desk space so you can position you keyboard & mouse much more freely.
Random_Name-@reddit
100% my speakers. My dad bought them 30+ years ago and they are still great quality today.
Brostradamus_@reddit
Halbzu@reddit
the common ones are already mentioned.
but i really like the fingerprint sensor.
WinterSubZero@reddit
A big mousepad/mat 😅
Mustang1718@reddit
For me, it is my MMO gaming mouse. It has 12 buttons on the side that I use for keybindings. It is much easier to use that than create modifiers using Shift, CTRL, and ALT. I can't play WoW without it anymore.
Recent-Ad2229@reddit
My logitech mx ergonomic mouse. It really helps me with my wrist injuries and more comfortable to use than a normal mouse
Larawanista@reddit
Does an 8TB SSD external drive count as accessory? Can't live without it.
NisRedditor113@reddit (OP)
Idk man, seems pretty essential to a build. But depending on how you look at it, 8TB could be overkill, and thus an accessory.
lichtspieler@reddit
I keep everything wired (LAN, keyboard/mouse, 20+ USB hardware and VR-headset), so I try to keep cable management in mind, but wont make it pretty / hide everything, if it impacts usability. I think every workspace can be organized a bit, but I see my system as a tool and not as a decoration.
Currently I am still in the honeymoon phase with my 4k-OLED and Keychron Q1 HE keyboard, both are just enjoyable to use for gaming.
Not expensive and rather boring is my choice for the mouse/mat with a Zowie EC1 / GSR2.
I do like my old audio equipment since a while, I use ADAM A7X studio monitors / HD650 headphone with a Focusrite / RE20 mic combo and I dont feel the need to upgrade anything since a while.
Otherwise I do enjoy VR-simracing and got a custom 8040 simrig with a Fanatec DD+ combo.
RGB is kept to a minimum, disabled or hidden with my hardware.
explain_exterminate@reddit
Bluetooth headphones make going for coffee possible during work meetings. The temptation is always there to use the washroom, but that's a bit more dangerous.
w3irzy@reddit
Stream deck pro for me.
Mainly use it for the 4 dial audio controller for separate sources. I have gotten used to being able to just mute my music/discord/browser when I get in to a game.
I don't use the buttons as much but I do have the set up to switch audio source, resize my windows so that discord, Spotify, browser all go to their proper monitors, stream on discord, enable performance overlays and control my smart lighting.
I also use the elgato pedals for PTT and lean in FPS games.
captainnordic_06@reddit
I must have an external mic and a desk-mounted mic boom. Makes being on voice chat and streaming much more comfortable!
Glorbo_Neon_Warlock@reddit
A monitor is like a solid number one. A close second are a mouse and a keyboard.
GapStock9843@reddit
Tbh im not really into that stuff much. The only RGB in my rig is the AIO, case front panel, and a few strips on the mobo
Roger_KK@reddit
I've got a mount that lets me attach my PC tower to the leg of my standing desk and I absolutely love it. Combine that with arms for my monitors, it's fantasic to have a completely open desk.
Flimsy-Panda8000@reddit
A DAC. Can't believe the depth and clarity of audio as long as the source is good.
Brando6677@reddit
One of my good friends upgraded his audio setup and he just GAVE me sennheiser HD598 and its been heavenly with my audio interface
BeardieBro@reddit
I swear by sennheiser after the hd598s were my first (and remains as the only) pair of nicer headphones I have gotten and they have been going for almost 7.5 years with nothing but a $20 ear cup replacement in all that time
Brando6677@reddit
Idk what he did to em but the headband cushion isn’t there. I normally listen at the PC with a hat on so it rest there nice anyway but I could probably fix it cheap too
BeardieBro@reddit
I just searched sennheiser hd598 replacement headband pad and found them for $13!

I think a lot of PC gamers forget about getting a current generation console controller.
Either a Xbox Series controller or a Playstation DualSense controller will be a good choice. The best one for you will depend on your taste and what you want in a controller.
The Series controller is for you if you prefer more positive feedback from your button presses, the tactile feedback is sharper. The D-pad is actually decent on the Series controller, which is a really welcome improvement. It uses a pair of AA batteries, so you can use your own pair of rechargeable ones to make the controller rechargeable. The controller layout is also the X-box style, so the left control stick is forwards while the right one is below.
The DualSense has a lighter but still very positive and obvious style of feedback for its button presses. The D-pad is great, and the force feedback (rumble) is more varied and feels better in the hands. Its powered by an internal rechargeable battery, so you will need to remember to plug it in to charge every once in a while. The controller layout is older, where the control sticks are both below the D-pad and face buttons.
Both controllers will work just fine via Bluetooth for PC gaming, the Dualsense will just need to have its firmware updated to be reliable (if it was made a while back).
KBM is not going to be the best way to play many kinds of games, so having a nice controller really helps give you more options. Also, sometimes you just want to lean back in your chair when you game.

Mouse Bungee, not a high quality or branded one, the spring is already corroded, but i didn't realize how great this thing is when i bought it, making your mouse cable looking better on your desk and not having it dragged around while gaming.

a solid chair ofc
vaurapung@reddit
Gotta have an optical drive, and a good front panel for multiple USB as well as headphones and mic jack.
Reasonable_Tank_3530@reddit
Probably a wireless mouse but closely followed by my Sennheiser HD 560s. Sometimes I have to take off my headphones to make sure the sound didn't come from inside my house, freaks me out sometimes lol
Low_Complex8073421@reddit
USB hub, data transfers are so much easier with one.
iraveallday@reddit
The built in USB hub on my vertical monitor. It freed up USB ports on my motherboard rear I/O and helps a ton with cable management as I could route the devices plugged to the hub (my webcam and UPS) to my vertical monitor and easily hide them. Best part is that the added USB cables don’t add much to the already installed HDMI and power cables so it just makes my setup so much cleaner.

I got a remote front panel that has the power switch, reset switch, power light, and disk access light on it. You plug it into the headers on the mobo and run the long cable out the back of the case. So I have the case under the desk, where you don't hear the fans so much, and yet I can see what the disks are doing and can turn it on and off, etc using the little header box on the top of the desk, and the case takes up no space on the desk and it's out of the way.

A few things! A wireless headset and mouse were absolute game changers for me. I can personally live with a wired keyboard, but if you can't then def consider that too. Also, for aesthetics and function, get some cable management accessories and spend some time cleaning it up as much as possible. Specifically a rack or something for underneath your desk. The amount of times I would extend my legs and yank a cable or hit the switch of my surge protector was embarrassing, and now I only have one cable going to the wall. It'll make your set up that much prettier and less of a hassle if you're like me.
