Has the Ryzen 7 5700X3D been discontinued?
Posted by montrealjoker@reddit | buildapc | View on Reddit | 120 comments
I am kicking myself for not picking up a Ryzen 7 5700X3D during the holiday deals but see that there is no or very over priced inventory available in Canada. I know AMD discontinued the Has the Ryzen 7 5800X3D but am not sure about the status of its AM4 sibling. Upgrading to AM5 is obviously a lot more expensive as I am on AM4 platform already and have great components.
shilohdrummer@reddit
Looks like it's discontinued now. Only ones available are inflated prices.
Might be worth building AM5 builds going onwards guys.
kluuu@reddit
Just took my shot with CPU Brothers Store. $177 after tax, then theres a +$20 coupon. Total $155

KDuster13@reddit
Can we get an update? Is this a reliable source?
kluuu@reddit
Still waiting for CPU Brothers order, but the SZCPU one came
Delicious_Oven3724@reddit
update?
kluuu@reddit
Got em both, easy and clean. No problems here
kluuu@reddit
Arrived at local airport and cleared customs. Seems pretty close
thesockninja@reddit
Sold out.
kluuu@reddit
Yeah haven't seen it restock since I ordered. Still waiting for it btw
thesockninja@reddit
other people have said it's new year in China so everybody's out partying lol
kluuu@reddit
if you were looking for get a 5700x3d that is
kluuu@reddit
This is kind of random but I ordered 2 5700x3d from ali and if I actually get 2 legit ones, I'm gonna have to unload the extra. If you're looking, I can sell to you. I'm in a good mood right now for some reason so if ur interested lmk. As long as I get th e money I paid for it, I'll be happy.
I bought the 155 from cpu brother and another from szcpu for like 175 or something
Boryk_@reddit
aliexpress is the way to go for 5700X3D
montrealjoker@reddit (OP)
Is Aliexpress reliable for original non-knockoff computer parts? I have never ordered from them and usually get on Amazon for return ease if there is an issue or directly at retailer like Canada Computers.
harobikes@reddit
I looked through pages of AliExpress results and none of them were for the actual "5700X3D" ....? Anyone have a link for an actual legit seller?
razzyaurealis@reddit
did you end up finding anything? I'm lookin too.
gaugegrayette@reddit
Those easy returns are the reason why Amazon is littered with dead/defective parts. AliExpress has fast/easy returns too, but there's at least a human on the other end, verifying you didnt smash your item with a hammer, or return an empty box. More ppl are starting to realize - u can buy a broken item from ebay for $50, and swap it for a working $300 item from amazon. I've heard of ppl getting 2 or 3 defective MoBo's or psu's in a row, just to name a few. I got a dead headset and a 5800x that sum1 ripped out with the fan still attached and just dropped in the box, loose. Arrived with more bent pins than straight ones. So i sold it for half price on ebay and returned an old amd athlon in its place for a full refund. Knowing whatever i sent back is getting thrown away eventually, and I'm tired of loaning amazon money at 0% interest, wasting my time returning defective products. Happens with newegg too, on a smaller scale
montrealjoker@reddit (OP)
So after that whole rant, you fully admit that you were one of the jackasses that is returning fake parts to Amazon that may get put onto somebody else. I was with you until then, but not anymore.
gaugegrayette@reddit
After receiving multiple dead/damaged parts, including the processor i mentioned, I used a marker to write "DO NOT RESELL" on the envelope and the box before returning a different (technically still working) item.
So no, i didnt steal a working product for my own personal gain, and swap it with a dead item to be resold. I loaned amazon money multiple times, then stole literal garbage, and squeezed $170 out of it, instead of it going to a landfill.
And if it did get resold, whats the difference? They return either a broken or wrong item. Eventually it's thrown away regardless.
Anyone who wouldn't do that, probably just wasn't savvy enough to realize they were leaving money on the table
Also... Fuk amazon! They've put every other parts retailer out of business. It's a literally monopoly. I encourage everyone to take advantage of them, if given the chance.
fakuryu@reddit
Sent you a DM, I've read about people here getting it from a specific seller and seems like they are able to get their orders. Unfortunately that seller can't ship it where I'm from, but AFAIK they ship to Canada.
I was able to source mine locally from our version of Amazon (Lazada, but got shipped from China) for surprisingly the same holiday price.
fortedeluxe@reddit
Can you dm me please?
10YearsANoob@reddit
I'm down for the 5700 link
fakuryu@reddit
I checked the rules and it seems like it's allowed. Just look for the seller SZCPU Store.
mindofdelta@reddit
I don’t see the 5700x3d on SZCPU’s store?
heysupmanbruh@reddit
same
Camilea@reddit
SZCPU has stopped selling to CanadaI can't order either
Analmall_Lover@reddit
I got mine on Aliexpress for $138 in November. Just make sure you buy one from a seller with lots of previous sales. It’ll come in a plastic tray. I think there’s like a week or two return period so install and test it ASAP just in case.
PewterButters@reddit
Lowest I see now is 165 dollars so even on aliexpress the price seems to be rising.
Squirrel_Rage@reddit
It is, also some coupons no longer work with these CPUs so getting these around $130-$140 doesn't seem possible either. Lowest price possible seems to be discount for first item on a new account.
montrealjoker@reddit (OP)
Thanks
IcemanEG@reddit
I got mine from the SZCPU store on Ali with no issues. My first time buying parts like that from that site. Took 2-3 weeks to get to me, tracking typically drops off once it reaches the US.
Comes in tray packaging. I’d do it again for the right CPU at the right price
squirrel_crosswalk@reddit
AliExpress is not a retailer, it is a shopfront for Chinese sellers very much like eBay storefronts.
Ballsy_McGee@reddit
Honestly idk. I see everyone talking about it successfully and then when I tried to, SZCPU store (a merchant that is supposedly legit according to yall on reddit) gave me the run around when their tracking said it was delivered and nothing ever showed up. Thankfully I made the purchase with a credit card, so I was able to chargeback no questions asked. If you do decide to go thru aliexpress, use a credit card. Hopefully it works out for you.
AFunnyIntrovert@reddit
Their tracking only goes to the courier, same thing happened to me and it was because they had delivered it to USPS for final delivery, so it showed up a delivered on their end and USPS eventually delivered the CPU to me a few days later
Ballsy_McGee@reddit
Awesome, Im glad that happened for you. I waited 2 whole months and nothing.
AFunnyIntrovert@reddit
That's rough, Iv had nothing but successful orders by them
Bl4ckStorm75@reddit
As long as you buy from reputable stores yes, I bought mine from SZCPU Store since it has good reviews with pics and the Store is like 6 year's old. I bought it for $135 on the past november sale
tony475130@reddit
I’ve bought all my ryzen cpu’s from “SZCPU Store” over on aliexpress and have had nothing but great experiences with them. I get my orders shipped fast and get to my house within 2 week of ordering on average.
kmofosho@reddit
It depends on the seller. Make sure you go for one with a lot of sales and reviews. I just got my 5700x3d a week ago, and i was a little suspicious but it showed up in 2 weeks and it runs just fine. Make sure you used a credit card or PayPal or some kind of payment method where you can easily dispute the charge if they try to rip you off. Meaning don’t use a debit card, as they are harder to get charges reversed on. My tracking info didn’t update until the day before it was delivered also.
Chas_Tenenbaums_Sock@reddit
Damn I just checked SZCPU and it's $250! o.O
Lavatis@reddit
aaaaand now they're all sold out under $200...T_T
Boryk_@reddit
they always fluctuated in and out of stock iirc, i'd wait a week or so before pulling the trigger
Lavatis@reddit
hey that's music to my ears, I deeply appreciate you chiming back into this thread to tell me that.
Boryk_@reddit
np mate hope you can snatch one at a reasonable price :)
Knocking@reddit
bought two 5700x3ds from Aliexpress and neither made it to my house 😭
kmofosho@reddit
What happened with them? Did you get your refunds? How long did it take to acknowledge they were lost?
Knocking@reddit
The first one was delivered to the wrong address and they refunded me the next day no questions asked.
The second one is still pending, but it's been on a plane since January 7th and was expected by the 18th. I'll give it til then, and request a refund if it doesn't magically appear
kmofosho@reddit
Mine was showing as “waiting for flight” for almost 10 days until the tracking updated showing it was out for delivery, so there may be hope. When did you order it? I wouldn’t call it lost until you hit 30 days.
Knocking@reddit
Oh that's really good to know, I placed the order on the 4th. I'll keep holding out for a while longer :D
Lynxneo@reddit
You got it? Man I can't mess with this. At this point if I can't buy one in Amazon I would be better spending 200$ and upgrading to am5
Knocking@reddit
Funnily enough, the day after I made those comments, my package cleared customs and it showed up on my doorstep like an hour later. It registers as a 5700x3d and runs great, so I'm happy with it!
Lynxneo@reddit
And 7600x seems to run low as well. God why my timing is so awful
Yiiniks@reddit
Mine was set to be delivered on 31st of dec. It got delivered on 7th of jan. I really wouldnt worry, my tracking was silent for 18 days cuz of plane transit
nlflint@reddit
Yes! Just got mine from AliExpress last week (I ordered it Dec 30th): $150 + Tax + free shipping. Been running great for the last week. Noticeably improved over my 6-core Ryzen 4650g (w/RX6800).
Someguy363@reddit
Apparently many AliExpress stores shut down around this time because of Chinese New Year, which explains why none of the big store are restocking. Be wary of buying a 5700X3D at this point in time, all the current listings are from no feedback sellers.
techguy19@reddit
Lol, funny you posted this. I just went against my better judgement and bought a 5700x3d for $127.99! I figure I'm protected twice through PayPal and then my credit card if things end up going wrong. Its also easier to stomach losing $130 VS $200. It's also cheaper than what a 5700x is going for right now, doesn't feel like much to lose
Visible-Charge4204@reddit
Were you able to get it?
techguy19@reddit
Nope lol. Requested a refund ali and got it approved same day. Ah well, still trying to find one at a good deal
Someguy363@reddit
What'll likely happen is they "accidentally" ship it to the wrong address. Shouldn't be too hard to get your money back.
jmarshallca@reddit
This is also driving me crazy. I asked for a Thermalright Phantom Spirit for Christmas, expressly because I intended to cram a 5700X3D into my AM4 rig, and ride that socket as long as I can. Now I'm just obsessively checking Best Buy, seeing it go on and off "backorder" status, and naïvely hoping they get a shipment in.
I was hoping it would be locally restocked, partly because I'd rather walk into a store and walk out with the chip, and not lose it in the swirling void of the courier network, but also because I have no-interest credit at Best Buy and Canada Computers. If I could go without putting it on my Visa, that would be nice.
But it's sounding more and more like AliExpress is the only way I'm going to get a hold of it now.
montrealjoker@reddit (OP)
So I actually woke up one morning a week ago (also obsessively checking availability) and lo and behold BestBuy had Online availability shipping before Feb 15th. I couldn’t order it fast enough and still have a sinking feeling that it will never get delivered. So now I check my BestBuy order for a status update obsessively along with general availability as I would buy another one and at worst sell it later. With some reports of fake CPUs on AliExpress I would still prefer to buy locally but if it doesn’t pan out hopefully that will still be an option. Good hunting to you!
chilldpt@reddit
Haha I think everyone who wants one of these at this point is obsessively checking for legitimate retailers to have stock. Amazon US had a couple pop in the other day (sold/shipped by Amazon for $250) and I managed to snag one well before they ran out, so I'm hoping that this goes through and wasn't some system glitch.
I've gotten A LOT of out of production stuff from Amazon that just randomly pops into stock brand new somehow, often with vinyl records. It's as if they just find an entire palette in a warehouse of these things that somehow went un-noticed lol.
TheTIkiguy@reddit
Can't even find any 3700x3d at the prices they've been for months on aliexpress the last week. Hopefully some come show up for cheap there online soon.
jmarshallca@reddit
I went poking around on AliExpress, and all the 5700X3D's are either sold out, or have "1 left." I'm hoping that they just need to restock after Chinese New Year.

Same problem here (Canada). Was looking to update from Ryzen 5 3600. Only Ryzen 7 series available here (new) are 5700x ($259 CAD) , or 5800xt ($279 CAD). These are a bit higher in base & boost speeds but don't have the bigger L3 cache that the x3d versions do. Only options for now besides saving up for a AM5 or later build in future.
Uncle_Steve7@reddit
What did you end up doing? Also Canadian with 3600x
Endfire79@reddit
Hey, I just went with a 5700x. Couldn't argue with the price.
montrealjoker@reddit (OP)
That is my situation being on AM4 platform. Going AM5 would unfortunately mean the upgrade trinity of motherboard, CPU and RAM. I have an Asus ROG Strix X570-E and 32GB Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB which are great and in no need of an upgrade. I am hoping more inventory hits our shelves or AliExpress will be the only option.
TheTahitiTrials@reddit
No, it's not discontinued but the prices are rising drastically it seems. Black Friday weekend it was at $195 on Amazon, and into December as well if I recall.
MicroCenter and AliExpress are probably your best bets rn.
ensignlee@reddit
Microcenter just raised their price from $180 to $200. Figured this out the other day when I was like "wait, am I crazy? I thought this was $180"
zunkfunk@reddit
It's up to $220 now. Still less than MSRP but not for long.
ensignlee@reddit
HOLY SHIT WTF?
Expert-Gas-1438@reddit
and now $249, gg
ensignlee@reddit
I ended up buying a used 5800x3d for $240 shipped (no taxes since used).
GG indeed
Expert-Gas-1438@reddit
what kinda temps are you getting
ensignlee@reddit
It's prob a me problem. With my 3700x I idled at 30, went to 60 at 100% load. (with an air cooler)
With the 5800x3d, I idle at 50, go straight to 90 (where I assume it throttles) at 100% load. (with the Lian li galahad II trinity performance 360)
Expert-Gas-1438@reddit
assuming you applied the thermal paste correctly, have good air flow and your environment is also relatively cool, those temps do seem a bit high but nothing catastrophic. as long as it isn't maintaining 90 all the time while you are gaming
i'd expect it to reach 80-85 tops at 100% load, perhaps you could try undervolting it
ensignlee@reddit
Definitely a my own expectations thing then. I thought with a 360 aio, I'd be at load at like 80 max.
But maybe I'm just out of date. I legit haven't built anything since the Ryzen 3700x and before that the i5-2500k, and both of those ran SO MUCH COOLER.
Ty for your input. I guess my days of folding@home are gone with this CPU then. I can't just have my CPU at 90 degrees perpetually and my fans at 100% perpetually.
montrealjoker@reddit (OP)
I wish we had MicroCenter. I am in Canada and it hurts to look at products on their website because the prices and availability is so much better.
bydd@reddit
For what it's worth, I've had one on backorder from Memory express in Canada since the last week of December. I just received a phone call saying that they were not able to bring any in as the CPU was at the 'end of life'.
montrealjoker@reddit (OP)

Just bought on Aliexpress for $161 final price.
it's already shipped lets hope it arrives.
If you buy offa ali
make sure to pick a seller who has reviews specifically for the 5700x3d.
Some sellers will have a great price, but no reviews, dont even push your luck.
Pay the extra $10-20 for a seller with good reviews.
ive seen prices on ali from $130-180.
The $130 sellers did not have any reviews though, so i skipped them.
Mine was $153USd before tax

I ordered from one SZCPU store on the 9th January, it was delivered yesterday, 16th January. It was £139 delivered which is about $170. This is the 2nd one I've ordered from Aliexpress, both orders were hassle free and both CPUs work great.

Dang, hopefully mine comes soon. I'm in the US but it hasn't come yet and I ordered it on the 31st of December.
mmozzano@reddit
Yeah I was quite impressed how quickly it arrived, it normally takes a couple of weeks. Hope yours turns up soon.

Thanks for the info. I wonder where the AliExpress sellers are getting genuine AMD parts at such a discount. What kind of deals and shenanigans are happening at the manufacturing sources?
Cautious-Treat-3568@reddit
They're selling tray units which are originally for big pc companies like HP, Dell, Lenovo etc. They are not actually an end user product but it's actually the same thing, just different packaging. Don't have normal end user boxes.
Coffinmagic@reddit
If you are buying thousands of CPUs you get a better deal. international sellers can move a lot of product

Dang it, I just went with the 5700x in the end last week because there was no stock. That's at $250 though.
babis8142@reddit
5700x3d is a failed 5800x3d so supply is going to be running out
Sadukar09@reddit
Probably not unless they scaled down Epyc AM4 completely.
IIRC all AM4 X3D CPUs are dies that can't make it into the Epyc 7003X for whatever reason.
5800X3D came out a month after than the 7003X series.
AMD probably got tired of trying to bin the rejects so high up to that spec, and created the 5700X3D.
5600X3D was a special created for Microcenter so they don't drive down the average selling price for the 5800X3D.
VoidNinja62@reddit
Nah not at all. Think they gave up on the 5800 X3D altogether.
babis8142@reddit
So there's a chance they'll keep making the 7 then?
bearwoodgoxers@reddit
I bought mine off Alibaba.com for $158. Make sure you buy from a Verified Seller with "Manufacturer" in their profile, these folks are legit and very helpful. I live in Asia and received it in 6 days, shipped with FedEx. Well packed, handled, etc.
The downside is no warranty as it's a tray CPU (made for OEMs) but CPUs are generally safe to buy, if they're bad they're bad from first boot. Alibaba should help you out if you get defective parts.
You can get 5800x3D as well, think it's going for around $290, although it is debatable if that is worth it right now.
montrealjoker@reddit (OP)
Thanks for the info!

I was hoping to upgrade my 5600g to a 5700x3d but after I seen how much the prices went up in Canada I decided I'm going to go with something a bit cheaper. Just have to figure out what will be worth it.
I know a lot of people have had success from Aliexpress but I don't feel comfortable with it personally and can't afford the loss if something happens.

Amazon Canada is $442 now 😫
Lizzpathetic@reddit
I'm in the exact same situation. I was thinking about buying it in October when it was at 165€....
arcos00@reddit
I've been wondering and worrying about the same thing, as I've seen it rise sharply in price in Amazon and in my local retailers (I'm not in the US).
psimwork@reddit
The price is definitely on the rise, but I'm not aware of it being discontinued. It's always possible, but with the RTX 5000-series and AMD RX 9000-series announcements creating demand for folks upgrading their PC, I think more likely it's just demand from that reducing supply.
But who knows - maybe they did. Time will tell.
