help find gpu upgrade

ok so to summarize, i have an hp pc with a rx550 2gb + an i5-11400f, (there's a pretty big bottleneck) and the gpu just can't run most games at a good frame rate... i have no budget, but i really don't want to upgrade anything other than my gpu and psu... any recommendations? AMD preferred, thanks!!

It’s an HP PC so it might not be that straightforward. You will have to look inside the PC and check what wattage the current PSU is. Does it have any spare PCIe power connectors? And how much extra space is there for a graphics card? Maybe share pictures.

yea, i got lots of pictures of the HP Pavilion TP01-2327c
i recently upgraded my ram, so i've had to open it up before
i use a 1440p monitor btw
lots of pictures and videos here: https://imgur.com/a/N84DWjq

okay I see that there's space for a bigger GPU, the PSU is 300 watts, and there's no spare PCIe power connectors that I see.
So the RTX 3050 6GB would be the best reasonable GPU you can get while keeping the PSU. It's multiple times faster than your RX 550, though still not ideal for modern games at 1440p.
I don't know if upgrading the PSU is easy on that PC.

it seems like a normal ATX PSU could fit in there, i don't care if i have to upgrade the psu either

Check that the PSU-to-motherboard connections aren't proprietary. I don't see a 24-pin ATX connection in your pictures.

i've looked online and there's adaptors if it isn't standard ATX

Okay, I’m not familiar with them but yeah if you can get it working it’ll be great. You could get a much stronger GPU.

is there a certain gpu that you would recommend for the i5-11400f?
(preferably AMD and at least 12gb of vram)
winterkoalefant@reddit
what games do you play? And what frame rate are you aiming for?
Emergency-Fun4766@reddit (OP)
lots of gpu intensive games (satisfactory, siege, subnautica, ultrakill, etc)
winterkoalefant@reddit
I would say RX 7800 XT.
It won't get 150 fps with Global Illumination enabled in Satisfactory but otherwise it should have no issues.

gotcha, what PSU should i buy?
winterkoalefant@reddit
assuming you can fit a full size ATX power supply, the XPG Core Reactor II 650W for $80 is good: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/jZHqqs/
Emergency-Fun4766@reddit (OP)
the 750W version isn't too much more, should i buy that instead?
winterkoalefant@reddit
sure, doesn’t hurt to have extra
Emergency-Fun4766@reddit (OP)
gotcha, what brand 7800xt should i buy? radeon, gigabyte, etc etc
winterkoalefant@reddit
They're all fine. I would just avoid the AMD reference card because it's a bit louder. https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-radeon-rx-7800-xt/37.html
winterkoalefant@reddit
If you don’t wanna check any of that, try an RTX 3050 6GB, it doesn’t use much power and doesn’t need spare PCIe power connectors.
VoraciousGorak@reddit
No budget, variable power supply? 7900XTX.
If you don't want to spend that much money and are gaming at lower resolutions: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html Compare that with how much is a comfortable spend for you. The 11400F will hold back faster GPUs at lower resolutions, but compared to an RX 550 there is really no bad buy aside from the 6400/6500XT, but only because they're bad buys for just about anyone.
