The new Audi configurator has to be one of the worst configurators.

It is horrendous, the different trims levels don't offer any information on what you are actually getting from that specific trim. All it says is the name of the trim, the price, and the acceleration.
There is no distinction between the premium, premium plus, and prestige trim.
munche@reddit
The new Charger one has to be up there
The powertrain options don't even tell you how much power it has
x3nhydr4lutr1sx@reddit
I don't think Stellantis engineers know, either.
Domyyy@reddit
This is actually their new and improved configurator. They changed it a few years ago. Trying to configure an Audi in 2020 was a truly miserable experience. The new one is still terrible but much better than the bs they had before.
It’s pretty funny that VW has had a great configurator for like a decade now.
nucleartime@reddit
Porsche also basically had to make a good configurator just because of how many stupid options they have. See, if you opt for the premium special interior, then you have the choice of spending even more money on top for deviated stitching.
People are always railing against government efficiencies, but nobody bats an eye when a megacorp does the same thing three times over and inevitably fucks it up.
falcon0159@reddit
Yeah, but as someone that does a lot of government work, there are huge inefficiencies. I mean the whole DBE thing is stupid, racist/sexist and allows for a lot of incompetence in contracting under the guise of helping “Disadvantaged” businesses. As if being a POC or woman is a disadvantage in todays age.
Tight_Olive_2987@reddit
A huge portion of people buy Porsches because of the configurability and being able to customize them.
I also don’t understand the why the government is relevant at all lol
lodensepp@reddit
Because Porsche, Volkswagen, and Audi belong to one company.
Hence, developing and maintaining three separate configurators seems like absolute waste (sure you need different designs, but why the f don’t they at least use the same technological base).
aaayyyuuussshhh@reddit
They only revised again recently though and removed a lot of functionality. They made it actually worse around the q6 etron debut
hi_im_bored13@reddit
Its so, so bad. My favorite part is when you go to the suv comparison chart (https://www.audiusa.com/en/models/suv-models/layer/comparison-chart/#) it just errors out.
6786_007@reddit
Audi's IT dept has been a complete shit show for a while. The Audi app regularly has issues and their website breaks a lot. They need to get their shit together.
PreacherSquat@reddit
if they can't have someone decent on their payroll to maintain their site, imagine the tech in their cars
alexp8771@reddit
I don't understand why they aren't shooting IT guys out of cannons until their website works. Like they are literally losing sales over something as trivial as this. Such a ridiculous and stupid unforced error.
HawtGarbage917@reddit
...because they're cheapskates?
hi_im_bored13@reddit
you don't have to imagine, audi used to be peak when.they launched mmi, you got like 8 settings for your heated seats, and then in '15 when they released virtual cockpit it was insane. and then they just did not update it. to this day the majority of their cars have the same exact system lol
their flagship a8 has had two refreshes, will continue to '27, and it still has that dated dual-touchscreen setup with the physical fuel gauge and still no CarPlay navigation in the instrument cluster.
bmw's entire lineup down to a base 2 series has beautiful [carplay integration]( great automatic cruise, ota updates
audi used to be the most tech-focused of the group wtf are they doing
Snow_source@reddit
It's showing a "site is down for maintenance" error whenever I try to build an RS5 Coupe.
https://www.audiusa.com/en/models/a5/rs5-coupe/2024/overview/build/?ulid=1737073195299
hi_im_bored13@reddit
They are discontinuing the a5/s5/RS5 coupe & vert so that I believe. Switching to that new naming scheme where the a4 is now electric and 5 is what the 4 used to be.
Juicyjackson@reddit (OP)
Good catch.
Several times when loading pages it also has just HTML visible.
hi_im_bored13@reddit
The lexus comparison chart is surprisingly good in comparison. Which is quite ironic considering you can't actually order a spec.
stav_and_nick@reddit
My favourite bit is that when you select sedans on audi canada, it only shows you the e tron GT
https://www.audi.ca/en/models/
not even the RS gt, or any of the other sedans. just that. There's also a "sportscar" filter that just shows the SQ7
Juicyjackson@reddit (OP)
They are just giving you a glimpse into their future.
ScipioAfricanvs@reddit
It’s bad and equally baffling is why there still isn’t the 2025 RS3 on it.
Tight_Olive_2987@reddit
Yeah I literally can’t even figure out if it’s for sale
Spirited-Guidance-91@reddit
I've heard people say it might be a '26 MY. Still it shouldn't error out.
Geruvah@reddit
Oh, so it's not my computer. On the RS6, when I hit the Milano Leather Seats, the headrests disappear or become so small that they're a choking hazard. https://www.audiusa.com/en/models/a6/rs6-avant/2025/overview/build/?ulid=1737160093943&pr=4A5RRA0MSNRS0D_2025%7CL5L5%7CQH%7CGPXXPXX%7CGWSLWSL
eugay@reddit
Germany as a country seems to have zero software capability.
GeneralCommand4459@reddit
I hate when you select one small thing on configurators, like an auto dimming mirror, and then you find a ‘pack’ has been added that costs 6k to allow that one thing.
bindermichi@reddit
It has to keep up with their new cars.
lodensepp@reddit
Thank god that we are not the only ones who find it horrendous.
We had one Audi back in 2020 and the configuration process was okayish. Then we wanted to look for a new one in 2024 and just noped out of the process.
I also don’t understand how it can be as atrocious as it is. Volkswagen is perfectly fine but it works and Porsche is just as good as the one from Mercedes.
So it’s not like the VAG IT can’t design decent configurators. It just decided that Audi should drive buyers insane.
DudeWhereIsMyDuduk@reddit
As someone who spent an inordinate amount of time on a configurator this summer, the only thing I have to say is that it doesn't matter how cool it is to use if you can't use it as a realistic expectation of what's available to order.
Twice I set up a configuration only to be told that they stopped taking orders for that color months ago.
aaayyyuuussshhh@reddit
So that's why their sales have fallen and are now clearly behind BMW and benz
PI351@reddit
And the lack of brochures - even digital ones - is infuriating. Often a lot of info which is lacking in a website/configurator can be found in a brochure, probably because completely different people work on them. Apparently Audi dropped brochures, at least in the US, years ago. My interest in an A4 Allroad was not helped along by Audi. I found myself looking at Audi info from other countries in order to piece things together. Grrrrr.
Eharmz@reddit
Gives you a taste of the ownership experience.
Bluecolt@reddit
I usually start with acceleration/engine when choosing a trim, but I'm the kind of buyer that would rather have the biggest/fastest engine with base options over something that is loaded option wise but has the base engine. Does Audi get me? On a serious note, I have been deterred from looking further into some makes because their online configurator sucks, so I get how annoying that must be.
Bubbly-Celery-2334@reddit
If they can't get the config on the website right, what makes you think the trillion computer controlled devices will ever work? Hint: they wont
Thiscantbelegalcanit@reddit
A survey popped up before the summary was displayed. It’s bad and they know it lol. I was honest
EngagedGroomsPodcast@reddit
Sounds about accurate for current state Audi.
dirtyrowdytrashboy@reddit
It's fucking horrendous. I sell Audis and it's super frustrating. It's only made worse by the fact that Audi is horrible about communicating/training on year to year changes for us so the website used to be a great way to confirm stuff. No so much anymore...
Juicyjackson@reddit (OP)
When chosing between the different trims, you have to become a detective and look at the 2 trims side by side for visual differences.
KSoMA@reddit
Lol I complained about the same thing. I get that the configurators were less fancy than other brands, but a lot of the functionality was also lost.
