I can tune to the Brewers and Cubs where I live. I always listen to the Brewers when the Cubs aren’t playing. Bob Uecker was a legend. I was at the Cubs Convention today and Craig Counsell told a hilarious stories about Bob.
elphaba00@reddit
I don't know how I ended up with a teen who bristles at swear words, but his favorite movie moment, courtesy of Major League 2, is "Aw shit."
ValleyJones@reddit
90 good for him! I thought he died like 5 years ago..
Honest-Campaign-6490@reddit
"That's all we got, one goddamn hit?" "You can't say goddamn on the air!" "Don't worry, nobody's listenin'." And: "About time, it's 8-nothin'" I use these too many times.

Norm Mcdonald’s and Artie Lange recounted their meeting of Bob Uecker in Howard Stern. Worth a listen.

Rest in Peace, Bob. You provided many laughs over the years.
BringBackHUAC@reddit
There's a clip on YouTube where in between calling a game he's talking about a furry convention at the hotel in Philadelphia the team was staying at. "I believe the dinner is being sponsored by Purina." Ahhh, he will be missed 😢

"There's no crying in baseball." Well, today there is.

A lot of really lovely stories in this thread. RIP Bob, thanks for the laughs 💚
petshopB1986@reddit
Every so often I think about this syndicated comedy sports show he did and there was a skit where he was selling a record album and I swear one of his songs was ‘ I’m a Bob Uecker puker..’
Odd-Animal-1552@reddit
Dang. I was just thinking about him the other day. Well, a radio commercial that used to play in the 80s. Does anyone else remember this one?
Bob Ueker, Bob Ueker is his name / he should be in the hall of fame / all us guys like him don’t forget us gals / buy him a bud light and let him be your pal
RIP Bob!
burrowowl@reddit
Uecker Uecker Uecker it's the Bob Uecker shooooowwww...
I want to say it was Miller Lite, not Bud, but I totally remember that ad.
NoTopic4906@reddit
I remember that song. Where did it come from? I cannot find it. Was the Bob Uecker Showooo from an ad?
burrowowl@reddit
It had to be from a Miller Lite ad but I can't seem to find it either
WIlf_Brim@reddit
He was a fixture in the Miller Lite ads in the late 70s and early 80s.
Everybody was using the "I must be in the front row!" and "He missed the tag!" all the time. Those were great ads, got the message across about their product in a memorable way. Everybody alive in that period remembers;
"Everything you always wanted in a beer. And less"
WarpedCore@reddit
My team.
My baseball radio announcer.
Many of us childhood Brewers fans would fall asleep listening to Uecker on the bedside radio, especially when the Brewers were on a West Coast swing.
While the team wasn't great, Bob Uecker made it a must listen to performance.
Rest Easy Bob. Thanks for everything.
Quirky-Pie9661@reddit
David Lynch and Bob Uecker in the same day? Well F Gen X today, huh?
HK-Admirer2001@reddit
One of my favorite interviews I saw was with Mr. Uecker. The host asked him about his baseball playing days and his batting average. He was very funny and humble with his answer. It went something like this: "Well, if you swing the bat enough times, sometimes it's going to connect with the ball."
I wish I can locate that interview.

Low and he walks the bases loaded on twelve straight pitches. I tell ya, I don’t know how these guys can lay off pitches this close!”
Brewers fans had a laugh about that early last season when a Marlins closer came in in the bottom of the 9th in a tie game and walked four in a row for a walk-off walk.
DoctorWho1977@reddit
Favorite line ever, I use it often and the younger generation has no idea why I chuckle.
Altrebelle@reddit
I don't think anyone else could've delivered THAT line any better. He is a highlight of those movies!
SacThrowAway76@reddit
Ueker was not a fast runner and he knew it. He would commonly swing his hands high enough to knock his helmet or hat off, just to make it look like he was running faster than he actually was.

The original "I must be in the front row" ad.This one makes me sad.
In addition to Major League, his Miller Lite ads were iconic. I wish we had TV ads this good today.

Damn I used to use that line!

boulevardofdef@reddit
Uecker was a decent catcher but made his post-baseball reputation on self-deprecating humor about how bad he was. (And to be sure, his batting stats are quite bad -- his career batting average was an even .200, which, to those who aren't familiar with baseball stats, is absolutely terrible.)
"You know, I was once named minor league player of the year. Unfortunately, I had been in the major leagues for two years at the time."
Thirty_Helens_Agree@reddit
I’m a Milwaukee guy and this guy has been the voice of baseball for literally my entire life. Summers won’t be the same. There was a reason Johnny Carson had him on 100+ times - he was hilarious.
He was the greatest storyteller - stories about almost burning the team’s hotel down and then getting screamed at by the league boss who was three feet tall. Silly grandpa stories about planting bratwurst seeds and growing bratwurst plants and picking fresh bratwurst. Shagging fly balls into a tuba during BP at the World Series. Getting in trouble for holding g hands with Bob Gibson in team photos. He played in the 50s when players had to have “real jobs” in the off season.
Man, I’m gonna miss him. I’d make sure to tune in to his sign off at the end of the last game of the season to hear his final “so long, ev-reee-BODY!” His sign off this year was really sad because the Brewers should have advanced further in the playoffs and he was broken up about it. Damn, I’m gonna miss this guy.
AbruptNonsequitur@reddit
When the Brewers moved from the American to National League and they played the Expos, he did several pre-game interviews as Jean-Jacques Smythe, the French-Canadian baseball fan, where it seemed like every answer wound up related to hockey. Oddly enough, that helped me understand why the Expos left town and became the Nationals…
cugamer@reddit
I'm a Chicago guy but we love Uecker down here also. Condolences to you and your city.

I’m a Phillies fan, so I’m having some flashbacks to Harry Kalas’ passing. In some ways, this is just as hard because Ueck was such a cultural touchstone. What a life.

That scene in Mr. Belvedere where the car alarm on Marsha's new Porsche induces vomiting - as this is revealed (excitedly by Marsha) we quickly see George scurry in to the living room, car alarm blaring in the background, desperately trying to make it to the bathroom to puke.
Comedy gold. Haven't found the episode yet; anyone know which one this is?

Aww! I knew this would happen but it still kind of seemed like he might live forever. I loved Uecker everywhere he ever appeared, and he used to be everywhere.
impresently@reddit
I remember riding in his annual Uecker’s Ride for the Arts. He would lead off on his bike at the head of the pack. I remember once him pulling off to the side after about a block. And just as I passed him he says to the rest of the pack “yeah, I’ll catch up with you later!”
WalkerTimothyFaulkes@reddit
Wait, what? I mean no disrespect at all when I say this, but didn't he die like 20 years ago? I could have sworn I saw an obit somewhere around that time and I remember being bummed out because I loved his character in Major League. I feel like I'm in an alternate timeline sometimes.
Well, either way, RIP sir. Loved you in those movies.

He was very much one of the sounds of summer when I was growing up. I lived right outside of Milwaukee in the early to mid 70s, and suburban Chicago from '74-'79, so he and Harry Caray were the local baseball voices of my childhood, along with Keith Jackson and Howard Cosell for those legendary World Series matchups between the Yankees and the Dodgers. Seems like there's not too many giants walking the earth anymore, and we lost another one today. Rest easy, and thank you for the memories.
Thirty_Helens_Agree@reddit
Ever hear the “truculent” story about Uecker and Cosell calling a game together?
RightHandWolf@reddit
"Well Howard, I’m not sure you want to bunt here," and Bob Uecker went on to explain why.
Howard Cosell responded, "Uecky, I get your point. But, you don’t have to be truculent. You do know what truculent means, don’t you?"
Uecker didn’t miss a beat. "Of course, Howard. If you have a truck and I borrow it, it would be truck-you-lent."

Ueck was a great guy. He was comfortable in his skin and had great self deprecation. To be someone who could consistently do that without his ego getting in the way is a rare thing.
I remember he was always the butt end of the joke in the Miller Lite commercials as a kid.
Brewers play by play without his comedy stories keeping people entertained (in deference to what was happening on the field of another sad sack year) won’t be the same.
Bobs most well worn joke was about him signing to the Braves in the fifties and getting signed for $3000….
Which pissed off his dad because he didn’t have that kind of money to pay the Braves for taking him.
