I update bios at least twice a year in general. If you get a new component you should also do it. It’s nerve wracking, but not doing it can cause problems as well.

Make sure you have a stable power supply, as much as possible. No storms, rain, snow, wind etc. Except for a freak accident, you should be ok if you follow your manufacturer’s recommendations
