Hi about 1 year ago i bought a pre-build pc, i wanna upgrade some compounds, but ive never done this before and it seems like allot of trouble.
This is my pc right now:
- Intel core i7-4765T 2.00 GHZ
- Nvidia RTX 3050 GPU
- Asus B85m-e motherboard
- i got 32GB DDR3
I figured that if i wanna upgrade my Cpu in need to upgrade my motherboard as well, and also the ram to DDR4, i wanna keep the GPU for now.
I think i want to upgrade to this
-Cpu: AMD ryzen 5 5600
-GPU Nvidia RTX 3050
-Motherboard MSI B550M PRO
-Ram: 16gb of ddr4 ram.
Is this a decent upgrade and would it work?
Any things i need to know before i upgrade? its my first time doing any of this stuff.
Thank you <3

If you bought that PC one year ago then honestly you were probably ripped off. That is an ancient CPU, DDR3 ram is very old, and the performance of the 3050 is so bad it shouldn't have been released. If you give us a budget, we can help you determine what would be the best build that you can make.

yeah, i figured i paid 800 bucks for it..........

well, i think the best option is to change everything right?
Alasio@reddit
Yes, you're going to want to change everything. You may be able to re-use the case and storage. The PSU might be re-usable but better to post the model here (Not just the brand) or look up the tier list to make sure that it's a good one.
Going with AM4 5600 is a good idea. But if you plan to do incremental upgrades every 2-3 years, then you may want to go with AM5 instead, 7600X or 7500F. If you're tight on budget, you can still keep the 3050 but you'll find that it needs to be replaced soon if you play more modern games.

i got a deepcool pf500 psu
still figuring out if i can reuse the windows, ill update soon

If the psu is as old as the rest of the system there is no way I’d risk new parts. PSU components deteriorate with age and usage, a psu that fails can damage anything connected to it.
Comfortable-Mix9435@reddit (OP)
its 2,5 years old..........
No-Actuator-6245@reddit
So it’s not the original psu?
Comfortable-Mix9435@reddit (OP)
its is, thats the fucked up part..
No-Actuator-6245@reddit
It is the original? Given the age of the cpu, motherboard and RAM if that psu is from the original build it has to be >5 years old and could be >10.
Alasio@reddit
Looks like a low end PSU. Not garbage at least but can consider swapping it if budget allows. Good that Windows can be reused at least so you can save on that too.

thx for your help <3 really appreciate it!

my windows is reusable, also linked to my microsoft account, so it should just transfer to my new pc
Switchen@reddit
Oof. I'm sorry, dude. That's about a $300 PC.

I wouldn’t lessen the ram, stick with 32gb
Comfortable-Mix9435@reddit (OP)
isnt 16GB enough for gaming?
Uk-One-7665@reddit
It’s enough for most of what you’d be doing for a time, but not for long and not comfortably. In my opinion. I always try to stay ahead of the game with ram since it’s not very expensive.

thanks allot man!
