any specific reason you are considering 4090 when 5080 and 5090 coming in a week or two?
MemoryPatient2073@reddit (OP)
to my understanding the 4090 is the 2nd best model when it comes to raw performance without frame generation(behind the 5090). I dont play many games that support FG and there are some pretty cheap 4090s in my area so I'd like to pick one up.
GonstroCZ@reddit
5080 will probably be better than 4090 (just look at 4080 vs 3090ti), 4090 will draw more power compared to 5080 too. DLLS4 is superior too... I would not go for 4090 tbh
superamigo987@reddit
I assume the 5080 will barely match the 4090, maybe 1-2% slower. There is no node jump, a very small CUDA cores increase, and regardless there is the VRAM issue
ldontgeit@reddit
5080 has 6k less cuda, half the vram, slower membus, and lower memory bandwind, while clocks are equal, do you really think a 5080 will be faster than a 4090?
gloomdwellerX@reddit
Even if it’s not, it’s half the price lol. People here really acting like they’ll be disgusted if their game runs at 142 frames instead of 150.
ldontgeit@reddit
Yeah price to performance 5080 for sure, its just the way nvidia is marketing them using a software locked feature and deceiving the normies with claims such has 5070 with the power of a 4090 for example.
gloomdwellerX@reddit
And most normies would probably be very happy with a 5070. I’m glad everything except the high end is cheaper this go round. GPUs are getting too expensive. I’m on the fence of upgrading from my 2080ti but the 5080 seems like it’s at a great price to performance.
ldontgeit@reddit
Yeah the one good thing is that they lowered msrp for every card exept 5090, now im just curious how are those prices going to be in europe.
superamigo987@reddit
No? That's exactly what I said. I think it will also be a bit slower as well
ldontgeit@reddit
Yeah the reply was supposed to be to the other dude lol mb
ldontgeit@reddit
It wont, i cant wait for them to launch so gamers nexus drags them down were they belong, every 5000 series are minor upgrades to the current ones, maybe the only exeption being the 5090, without multi framegen that wont even be optimal if you dont have atleast a 240hz monitor, the 5000 series are a fraud being marketed with software locked "performance" feature, that you can already have witha 7 dolar app on steam called lossless scaling.
Protocol49@reddit
Its not going to be, the 4090 is squarely between the 5080 and 5090. All you have to do is the math for how many SMs it has and you know exactly what the performance difference is.
5090 = 170, 4090 - 128, 5080 = 84. This means without software wizardry, the 5080 is barely going to beat the 4080 super.
MemoryPatient2073@reddit (OP)
how expensive will the 5080 be realistically? there's no way it will only cost 1000$.
gloomdwellerX@reddit
Mental gymnastics here.
MemoryPatient2073@reddit (OP)
elaborate?
Protocol49@reddit
I've had many of them come through my hands, the best by far is the FE but its hard to find (or FE based PCB cards like PNY). Second best has been Gigabyte. Asus was awful, absolutely terrible whine over multiple cards. MSI was hit or miss some had none some had a bunch, although I never used the top end Suprim cards from them.
Only saw one Zotac card, no whine but it felt cheap. I can't speak on brands not usually seen in the US like Inno3D and Palit.
corvak@reddit
I have a Zotac.
Haven’t had an issue, no whine or anything, but I know what you mean by looking cheap, lol.
Protocol49@reddit
Its just an observation, it was plastic and cheap feeling and had a lot of sag. Why be defensive about it?
I can see the Asus fanboys are out in a rage too given they paid 25% more for their cards just for the name.
corvak@reddit
I’m not being defensive? I agree with you, lol.
I just put a bracket on it and accepted the look so I could save $400 😅
Protocol49@reddit
Sorry I didn't mean you in particular, I got downvoted a bunch just for telling the truth of what I've seen with my own eyes and used personally. I have a Gigabyte 4090 OC and its OK, saggy bugger so it needs a stand. The RGB sucks too, it flashes so I just shut it off.
Worth_Performer7357@reddit
Don't know if I'd call it cheap but I hate the looks of my Zotac 4080 Super. Looks shit compared to most of the other great designs. And unfortunately it has pretty loud coil whine which I luckily was able to reduce by undervolting. Not getting rid of it completely tho.
Bought a prebuilt where I couldn't choose the exact brand (they just use the brand which they have in store), so bad luck.
Kathryn_Cadbury@reddit
My MSI 3080TI Gaming Trio had really bad coil wine, was replaced by the supplier and the replacement was the same, but not quite as bad. Can't hear it when I have headphones on and it only does it under load so I just deal with it.
ldontgeit@reddit
Least likely idk, but i can speak for my tuf 4090, it has alot of coil whine.
damien24101982@reddit
Gamerock Palit I have 4080 and 4070ti and they arent making a squeak.

It's a lottery ^^
L1ghtbird@reddit
It's a lottery, so nobody can tell. The only comment you probably will get is "I have XYZ, it doesn't have coil wine"
