Camels are like "man, that's a weird fuckin' plane..."

Guess what day it is???
Ian1231100@reddit
Let me guess, is it WIG Wednesday?

The weirdest thing to me about these photos are the camels! I had no idea camels were anywhere near Russia’s reach when the ekranoplanes were being messed with.

Soviet Union*
Dromedaries like these would only be found around the southern parts of the Caspian Sea, far from Russia’s modern borders, however they would be inside of the Soviet Union’s borders, in the nations that are now Turkmenistan or Azerbaijan.
AviationArtCollector@reddit
Actually, the place of testing on the photo is Kaspiysk (Dagestan). This is quite a territory of modern Russia.
Plupsnup@reddit
Dromedaries don't have two humps; these are Bactrian camels.
SubcommanderMarcos@reddit
Wish I could find a high res version of this to print and frame, it's an amazing shot.
Abandondero@reddit (OP)
It might be hard to find. That faint overlay of mirrored text means that it's a picture clipped out of an old newspaper.
6inarowmakesitgo@reddit
What are the two units on the tail? APU? Or even more engines?
Plump_Apparatus@reddit
More engines. He had ten RD-7 turbojets with around 28,000 lbf of thrust each.
BladyPiter@reddit
8 jets in front are used only for take off to pump air under wings and create the "pillow", they get shut down later, after that only 2 rear engines are used for the "flight".
PorkyMcRib@reddit
A dromedary only has one hump.
Abandondero@reddit (OP)
Damn, I thought I had that right. They're Bactrian camels then?
Laundry_Hamper@reddit
Look at the letters sideways to remember it.

Why didn't I know that? That's really good!
RockstarQuaff@reddit
Exactly. They're bactrian. Dromedaries are in the middle east.

Ironically, Joe Camel is adromedary.
Abandondero@reddit (OP)
The photo comes from this post. The dromedaries complete the alien look!
yanox00@reddit
Yeah, those are bactrian camels.
But those ekranoplans are definitely some weird wings.
quadrastrophe@reddit
I love the internet because of comments like yours. Thanks.
Plump_Apparatus@reddit
It is a sweet picture of the KM, very few exist. At least online.

This looks like something out of the 1920+ universe. Like a card you would pull in Scythe.
"Pay the farmer for his camels, gain 1 popularity and 2 food"
cmdrqfortescue@reddit
Or
Hijack the Ekranoplan. Gain 1 power and draw 2 combat cards. Lose 1 popularity.”
