How many times per week/month do you get a takeaway?

I get one takeaway a week (Saturday night) the rest of the week I don’t eat out at all. Unless it’s a special occasion/birthday meals etc.
WowSuchName21@reddit
Vastly dependant on my mental state,
Wife was away over the weekend, felt shit and couldn’t be arsed to cook, ordered from the same place Friday and Saturday. Same delivery driver - mortified.
Usually once a month though
Queen-Kirsty@reddit
A few days before Christmas last year my usual pizza guy randomly showed up with my order - I hadn’t placed an order so was super confused. He said he hadn’t seen me order for a while so thought he’d come and give me a Christmas treat and see how I was doing.
At first I was just in shock over how sweet it was and happy for free pizza… then the utter shame hit that I’d been ordering so much and had been so depressed that even the pizza guy was doing a welfare check 💀
CheekyYoghurts@reddit
Honestly those drivers probably deliver to certain people daily lol
I wouldn't worry about it
Emergency_Mistake_44@reddit
We do. I'm on banterous terms with some customers due to how often I'm round.
abgc161@reddit
I ordered a takeaway my first night in my new flat (hadn’t unboxed the kitchen stuff yet was my excuse) and the delivery driver asked ‘don’t I normally deliver to you on X road?’
alltheparentssuck@reddit
When I was much younger I spend far to much time round my mates ordering pizza, we even got a Christmas card from the shop.
WowSuchName21@reddit
We locked eyes and both chuckled, I hope he thought I was high.
But yea I’m sure he sees worse.
nolinearbanana@reddit
If I'm at home, never.
Jessiejiigsaw@reddit
Once a week takeaway + 2 restaurant meals per month. Probably about £200 a month in total
capt_avocado@reddit
27 y.o, student and part time working here.
Once a week. I’ve moved to the UK alone and sometimes I just want someone else to cook for me cause I cba
velos85@reddit
Depends how depressed I am
Pebbi@reddit
Yep this. I'm disabled and struggle to cook for myself so the cooking is mostly on my partner. Takeaway is for his mental health days!
LadyAristocat@reddit
I’m in the same boat minus the partner. I used to love cooking but it causes me too much pain now, when I order food my depression / anxiety likes to make me feel guilty for it. It’s like my brain doesn’t listen and makes me feel like it’s a ‘waste of money’ or that I’m ’being lazy’ even though I can afford it and I’m healthy weight-wise. But no matter how much I try to rationalise it I still feel bad for ordering, it makes no sense…the joys of anxiety I guess
Sean_13@reddit
That is so much my life. My partner is disabled so I end up doing almost all the house work which I really don't mind. But I get bad anxiety when I leave the house so it is whether I'm having a good MH day, had the mental spoons to have gotten groceries in and have the spoons to cook.
TabinaHime@reddit
Me too!
Clarl020@reddit
Yeah I literally just finished a take away because I’ve had a shit day and couldn’t be bothered to cook lmao
Aromatic-Story-6556@reddit
I was heavily hinting that we should get one tonight because I had a shit saying work but my partner was like “no we can just have an omelette” and my heart broke a bit
Charleypieohwhy@reddit
Hit him with the pan. Omelette ain’t happening 😂😂😂😂
20127010603170562316@reddit
My sister in law orders omelette and chips from the Chinese.
What is even the point.
davidshutter@reddit
Well, you know what they say. You can't make an omelette without breaking a few....hearts.
Fit_General7058@reddit
If omelette made us feel better, I'd keep chickens!
Lopsided_Warning8287@reddit
Sometimes I let food just go off in the fridge because I cannot be bothered to cook it and will wait the 30 minutes for a take away instead of using that time to cook.
dallibab@reddit
That happened to me this month. Daily
slimdrum@reddit
I can get a decent burger, chips and a drink for a tenner and I find myself ordering it far too often. It’s tasty but maan do I feel bad after and I’m a skinny little bastard
temujin_borjigin@reddit
Same. Currently at about 8 a week…
beffybadbelly@reddit
Lol pretty much
reddit_recluse@reddit
so... you get it every day too?
manamara1@reddit
Every hour
Happiest_Mango24@reddit
Same
JourneyThiefer@reddit
Lmao literally
kayzgguod@reddit
the answer depends on the generation
Yamsfordays@reddit
Pretty much never. I open the app, find the food I want, see all the added fees and close the app. It doesn’t matter how much I want the food or if I have the money, I just can’t bring myself to spend so much on a take away.
BackPractical9210@reddit
Feel the same sometimes. Like I want the food but become so pissed off with the thieving going on on the apps that I just refuse
Yamsfordays@reddit
Exactly. I’d rather just walk down to co op and get a frozen pizza or a ready meal. It doesn’t hit the same but I’ve saved £20
BackPractical9210@reddit
On more than one occasion I’ve done the exact same thing and just got a frozen pizza lol. Much cheaper and still feels like somewhat of a treat !
lomiodien89@reddit
Just ring up?
Karlsberg62@reddit
Cutting down to once per week at most (£18) for me and my partner. If I include extremely subsidised lunches at work (£4 each), then 3 times a week for £26.
Monsoon_Storm@reddit
zero.
On the odd occasion that I want to spend more on food then I'll go and eat in a restaurant/cafe.
It's gotten to the point where there's barely any difference in price between them.
throwraajay@reddit
Nearly everyday 😢
Intruder313@reddit
Once a week I get pizza delivered (no middle-men I go direct to the shop's app so no scamming gits like Just Eat, Deliveroo or Uber Eats).
Twice a week I'll eat some vegan sausage rolls or something for dinner at work.
throwtheway52@reddit
once a month
shak_0508@reddit
Illlpretty often. I jeep a budget of £150 allocated for takeaways each month.
Trick-Station8742@reddit
Christ
BrawDev@reddit
You've said Christ to 200 quid in a MONTH?
I know, hands down I've spent that in a week. Fuck me.
glasgowgeg@reddit
If they have a family of 4, that could just be 1 a week.
Trick-Station8742@reddit
Christ
811545b2-4ff7-4041@reddit
As it includes work lunches, that could easily be £80-100 per month as part of that £200 budget.
Beartato4772@reddit
It's certainly a hidden cost of being forced into an office for some workers.
International-Bat777@reddit
That's probably only four takeaways these days.
BrawDev@reddit
People must be comparing solo takeaway orders to family orders aswell. Like when I was living myself, it was a chicken curry, rice, chips and chicken balls if I felt extra fat that day.
Probably about what, 15-18 quid.
Add on extra mouths to feed via wife and kids and you've got far more on the receipt.
cvbk87@reddit
See for that at my local Chinese it would be enough to feed our family since you can’t buy small portions and that usually comes to £30+
dkdc80@reddit
That’s nearly 25k over 10 years.
Illustrious-Lie-2170@reddit
25k gets you fuck all what's your point?
dkdc80@reddit
My point is it all adds up
gigglygal69@reddit
I like this idea, may help me cut down.
JK07@reddit
4 of us at work do chippy Tuesday, that's usually a fiver. I often get a cooked lunch and a local diner for £6.50
Me and my wife will usually have one every week or two and will usually also eat out once every week or two depending on what we're working.
£200 sounds about right, well now we've stopped drinking, it was a lot more before that
EntrepreneurAway419@reddit
2400 a year, ~3000 before tax, that's some payrise you could give yourself
Emergency-Aardvark-6@reddit
Week/month 🙄 twice a year, if I save up for them.
Those of us who can't afford them, can afford phones and WiFi.
There are plenty of others who can't afford them at all. Maybe think before you word your question?
glasgowgeg@reddit
There's nothing wrong with the wording of their question.
Bulky_Yesterday_5809@reddit (OP)
Sorry
glasgowgeg@reddit
You don't need to apologise for anything, nothing about your question was inflammatory or insensitive, you just asked how often people get one.
Emergency-Aardvark-6 is just being performatively outraged.
Emergency-Aardvark-6@reddit
Learning curve. It's ok
Bulky_Yesterday_5809@reddit (OP)
Yeah sorry I could of worded that better in general, to be honest. Didn’t mean anything by it though, just curious if people do get takeaways how often do they get them
MegaMolehill@reddit
Basically zero. I grew up in a household where takeaways were considered expensive and an occasional treat. Can’t shake the mindset that’s it’s a waste of money so we rarely get one and then it tends to be from a chippy.
Kewoowaa@reddit
Same… ‘there’s food at home’ is a mantra I can’t shake.
Fyonella@reddit
Never, literally never.
‘There’s better food at home’ is how I look at it. Might be different if there were any half way decent places near us and they delivered (out in the sticks).
My husband does regularly though, but I think his food tastes & standards aren’t as high as mine.
miggleb@reddit
What is this better food?
Fyonella@reddit
Pretty much anything! Theres a couple of dodgy Indian takeaways, a Chinese, a Dominoes, a kebab and greasy pizza joint on the nearby airbase. That’s the gourmet choice we have here. Were well out of range for JustEat and any other similar schemes.
I’m a good cook so I’d far rather eat my own food!
lost_send_berries@reddit
I can believe the person who makes their own food likes the food more than the other person
Fyonella@reddit
Heh the fact is my husband rashly one day decided he’d cook for himself at weekends to give me a break! He can’t actually cook many things so often resorts to takeaway out of apathy and is too stubborn to go back on what he said!
I’m vegetarian and he isn’t so I cook two entirely separate meals all week so I’m in no hurry to reverse the system either!
Loud-Olive-8110@reddit
I don't personally think food tastes and standards are part of it for a lot of people. We all know we could make something better at home, but take away sometimes just hits a spot in people that home food doesn't. It's like when you want a McDonald's, you don't want one because you want a burger, you want a McDonald's. Sure, you could make a burger, but it wouldn't be McDonald's. Sometimes you don't just want food, you want a takeaway 💁♀️
Fyonella@reddit
I appreciate that must be how a lot of people feel, but that’s not where I’m coming from. Personally, I don’t see the point in paying for food that is really not very enjoyable.
I’ve never ‘wanted a McDonalds’ in my entire life, and have not eaten one in at least 30 odd years since my kids were of an age where they wanted to go occasionally and we lived somewhere where it was somewhat more convenient than it would be now.
Id certainly not drive 16+ miles to the nearest McDonalds! 🤡
Loud-Olive-8110@reddit
I was more talking about how you're speaking about your husband rather than talking about you. It's very often nothing to do with peoples standards, and I think it's a bit rude to say people who eat takeaway have lower ones, it's to do with what you find comfort in. Some people find that in junk food and it's fine for you to not
Fyonella@reddit
I think you must have missed the bit where I said I would if any of the takeaway/restaurants near us were halfway decent. I love an Indian Takeaway but the ones available here are mediocre if you’re being generous!
My husband still eats them, he thinks they’re perfectly fine. That’s what I meant by saying his standards aren’t the same as mine.
Beartato4772@reddit
Takeaways are almost universally worse than anything I can do myself and I always have frozen homemade meals if I'm lazy so same.
I do sometimes do a McDonalds or something but I'll walk there and eat in generally, McDonalds does not travel.
RobbieRosinn@reddit
Same. I was pretty good last year, ordering maybe once a month, but my new years resolution was no more takeaways. I think most takeaways can be replicated pretty well at home, even if you tend to avoid UPFs.
AnSteall@reddit
I also like my own cooking. :D
Eren-Alter-Ego@reddit
Last time I had a takeaway I just sat there, not really enjoying it, thinking about how much it cost and that I could have made nicer for less money 🙄
AnSteall@reddit
Haha, yes. Since I started calculating the cost of home meal (I'm a bit of an Excel nerd) I found that home cooking can be really, really cheap and remain healthy. In addition you get to create a lot of variety, something which you do not get in restaurants with static meals or even my chippy.
Birdiefly5678@reddit
If you've got a minute, do you mind telling me how you do it?
I really want to do that myself but don't know how
AnSteall@reddit
It's really not perfect and is a pet project of mine. It does require a little planning and you can do it on a piece of paper too as a start.
The basics of it is that you break your food down to volumes that make sense. Let's do a popular breakfast item - overnight oats. All prices are random.
One portion of oats is 35g. You bought 1 kg of oats for £1 = 100p. 100p/1000g = 0.1p/g. So your oats for this breakfast will cost you 35g*0.1p/g=3.5p.
Say you add 100ml of milk. You bought your 1000ml (1 litre) of milk for £1 = 100p. So your 1 ml of milk will cost you 100p/1000ml=0.1p/ml. Your 100ml of milk for the breakfast will cost you 100ml*0.1p/ml = 10p.
If you add nothing else, therefore your breakfast will cost you 10p+3.5p=13.5p.
My 'real life' calculation for my breakfast is 38p, which includes some frozen fruit (I prepare the day before and use different amounts than the example). If I compare this with porridge in a shop, that comes to £2-3-4, it's already a win. The biggest advantage though is that you control your portions and know what goes into your food.
I hope this helps. There are plenty of budgeting tutorials on the internet, especially on YouTube.
Less_Mess_5803@reddit
When you see what passes for food in some restaurants then get the bill and feel robbed, home cooking has a lot going for it.
Murky_Cricket1163@reddit
When I've not had takeaway for a while, I also get very conscious of how much salt and oil goes into a lot of them, which puts me off. I tried making a few fakeaway meals last year, and could get most of them tasting pretty spot on...if I added enough salt/MSG to turn my blood to gravy.
AnSteall@reddit
Very much so. I more or less stopped eating out (including coffees) when the pleasure of the food no longer justified the price. I was done with paying £18 for a crap burger and chips or dry chicken.
Kitchen_Owl_8518@reddit
I agree 100%
That old joke about having food at home rings true. I can cook better food cheaper at home with the only downside being the washing up.
daddyysgirl21@reddit
there’s a restaurant/gastro pub near us that everyone raves about. when we moved in, we tried to get a booking and it was booked up weeks in advance. we got a booking and were so excited and i got sliders and my partner got a hanging kebab. my sliders were so dry and not very nice and i was so disappointed. we thought we would try again, maybe i ordered wrong and i got the hanging kebab and again it was so boring and a bit dry. i honestly do not understand the hype. especially because the mains are £20-£25 each and if you want anything a bit different (greek salad) you have to upgrade one of your sides for £2.50 each.
Breakwaterbot@reddit
Not only do I like my own cooking, I enjoy doing it. Takeaways are just something I do because I'm with other people and they want to do it or it's payday and we do office chippy order.
DeifniteProfessional@reddit
Same, but for the opposite reason. When I was a wee lad, Friday night takeaways were common. During the financial hardships of 08-09, this got reduced to every 2 weeks.
Then in the early 2010s, my parents split up, and after some controversy, I ended up living with my dad and his partner. Dinner 4-5 days a week was a takeaway. Pizza, kebab, curry, Chinese, fish and chips. Just sheer lazy foods. Occasionally someone would cook, or we'd have a ready meal or something, but it was absolutely dire.
Now as an adult, I can't be doing that to myself. I'm nearly 30, I'll struggle to reverse any changes a pizza makes to me soon. Last full takeaway I had was probably a kebab after a messy night out last summer
evthrowawayverysad@reddit
That's a shame imo. Cooking and selling food is a service that you can buy in too when you need. Treating something that might be an important timesaver allowing you to get something else done or take the pressure off sometimes.
I guess I see it like a car rental; sometimes if I'm on holiday somewhere, I could take the bus, or train, or whatever, but many times I'd rather just pay a bit more for the practicality and ease of having my own car.
Obviously the trend toward takeaway food being as unhealthy as it is doesn't really help with that though.
Less_Mess_5803@reddit
Don't look at chippy prices these days 😂
Abject_Tumbleweed413@reddit
I treated myself the other day as I am poorly. £18 for cod, chips and curry sauce! Yes, it was delivered as I can't get out. It was nice, but £18!!!!
SaltyName8341@reddit
Where do you live it's £9.40 here delivered bang £1.50 on. NE Manchester
Abject_Tumbleweed413@reddit
Near London
highrouleur@reddit
I'm in Romford. Round here it's over a tenner just for the fish (cod or haddock). Then the smallest chips are 4 quid!
I don't bother anymore so expensive plus even my "decent" local chippy is a bit hot and miss with chip quality now. It's galling to pay 4 quid for a bag of limp greasy disappointment
whimsicallygrey@reddit
Same here. I’ve got to really be in the mood for a chippy so I rarely have it, but the other week me and my partner were fancying it. So I had fish, chips, curry sauce and mushy peas, and just for that it was £22 without my partners food added to it.
I live in South Wales. Nothing fancy. Not London. £22 for fish chips and peas.
It was bloody lush though!
luke-uk@reddit
I grew up in rural Cornwall where there weren’t any so I’m the same. At uni I ordered a few but they are so high in calories I’ll tend to only get them a couple of times a year.
RoyofBungay@reddit
The same. Between 6 and 8pm is my cooking from scratch and pottering time. I hate microwaves and airfryers because they can cause for some bad habits.
BrawDev@reddit
That's pretty interesting, I was the same but the opposite happened. We rarely got one, maybe once a week if we were lucky, but when I moved out and had a fair amout of DI, there wasn't anything stopping me from eating out every single night.
Especailly when you start rationalizing it with "Other people go out drinking or smoke every day, surely I can have this"
Slippery fuckin slope that's for sure.
minigmgoit@reddit
Yep. Me too. Grew up in rural Devon in the 80’s and 90’s. Minimal takeaway options and my parents worked kitchens and felt it was mostly junk. We had fish and chips very occasionally. When I moved away I ate takeaway. I didn’t eat Chinese food until I was 19 years old. I’ve never had a meat kebab even now at the ripe old age of 47. I did enjoy burgers for a while. But then I got healthy so don’t eat it very often at all. A couple times a year. Indian food.
UniqueEnigma121@reddit
Fish & Chips definitely acceptable.
Competitive_Pen7192@reddit
Chippies are off bounds now. A single Cod and Chips is over a tenner now for some poxy battered fish and potatoes. I know overheads has gone up but it isn't worth it anymore.
Benificial-Cucumber@reddit
My local is one of those rare gems that's actually worth the expense, but I know I've lucked out there.
I remember when chippies were the cheap takeaway and pizza was the real investment. Nowadays it seems like they've swapped places and big chain pizza places are the cheap ones, at least in terms of the raw amount of food you get per pound.
BoopingBurrito@reddit
I grew up in a household where we weren't allowed takeaways (literally only ever had them at friends houses), because my dad insisted they were too expensive (whilst he spaffed money up against the wall for his personal interests) and also claimed there no point in getting takeaways when he enjoyed my mums cooking so much.
It always annoyed me, because cooking dinner for a full family after having worked all day is bloody tiring, and my mum would have loved a night off from doing the cooking every so often. And we could absolutely have afforded it, if my dad had given up the gold membership he insisted on having but never used, or the multiple magazine subscriptions he insisted on getting but never read, or if he'd just accepted slightly less going into savings every so often.
So I feel fully justified in getting the occasional takeaway, as a bit of a backlash at my dad's miserliness
geoffs3310@reddit
I mean he's got a point. I wouldn't get them ever either if I had my own personal chef who worked for free.
BoopingBurrito@reddit
And if you ever call your wife that to her face in anything but jest, your marriage will be about as happy as my parent's marriage was...

BoopingBurrito@reddit
I doubt it, unless my brother's online persona is...different than I expected.
X0AN@reddit
That's how I grew up but also we're very good cooks in our family, so basically we're can all make much better meals than our local takeaways anyway.
When ordering a Chinese is gonna be £40 and you think how much you can actually buy and make for £40, and it tastes better. Never really fancy getting a local.
Outrageous_Shake2926@reddit
Same way I was brought up. I only have takeaways on holiday.
IcemanGeneMalenko@reddit
Same with me, if I’ve been day drinking or whatever I’ll order one, literally 1 every 3 months I’d say on average.
Some of my mates and work colleagues by 2-3 per week, not including going to Maccies here and there for lunch too. They’re just pissing away money (then moan at being skint), but it’s like talking to a brick wall.
Scarboroughwarning@reddit
I find takeaways so sub par now, and expensive.
I think when I could get main meals from the Chinese for £3.5, rice and chips, which would give me left overs, fair do. Now, it's £14 for that.
Wise-Ambassador9536@reddit
Growing up my mum would get takeaways a lot. My aunty and uncle were and are the same. Even though they're all very poor. I've since went to uni and have a good job and I can't shake off the habit. I must get 5-10 a week. And it's not McDonald's or super cheap fast food joints. It's Spanish, Thai, Indian - not so cheap basically
S4h1l_4l1@reddit
I grew up in a house where we’d only get it once a week on my dads day off from work when my mum was just a housewife, afterwards when she started working we started getting it every Saturday up until I started earning my own money. Now I just get it whenever I feel like it, but don’t tell anyone 🤫
JustGhostin@reddit
Same, I like it though. Everyone has “fat Friday” at work where they get takeaway for lunch and I just sit there with my sandwiches
Think-Juggernaut8859@reddit
My Mrs texted me last night on the way home ‘Do you want something from McDonalds’. I replied no I’ll get something here at home, we’ve loads of food. I’ve become my parents….
AggravatingDentist70@reddit
Ditto. I've been in my house for almost 7 years and have ordered precisely 1 takeaway.
No_Astronaut3059@reddit
I've only recently (last few years) been able to shake that mentality; even if I was ordering takeaways more often, I always felt actual guilt about the expenditure.
But partly through an increase in the cost of groceries, and the availability of loads of delivery services with discounts etc, and partly through the cost of "everything else" going up substantially (e.g. a few pints / a gig / the cinema), I have kind of come to terms with it being a reasonable cost for a small luxury. In particular if it means I will eat a few proper meals (leftovers for breakfast!) that I may otherwise skip.
I do still tend to be very cost-aware, though; going for the special offers and discounts when ordering alone, or feeling a bit anxious when friends are going all out and I just want the house rice and some sweet and sour sauce or something ("sooo, we are splitting the bill according to what we order, right...?").
UlsterManInScotland@reddit
It’s eighteen quid for a fish supper from our local chippy, I can get a steak & Ale pie with chips in our local pub/ restaurant for £ 15…. The Chippy isn’t always the cheaper option anymore
Bulky_Yesterday_5809@reddit (OP)
Yep, we only had takeaways for my brothers birthday because he didn’t want anything else. So, usually once a year - maybe two growing up. Since being with my partner though, we have kind of got into a habit of having them once a week and I still can’t shake the “food at home” thought.
Ok-Morning4886@reddit
No more than 5 times a year , usually when back from holiday, or some gathering when I'll order 2/3 Pizza Hut pizzas.
I stack up on frozen chips and Nuggets/ Garlic bread, so whenever I crave some comfort food, i just stick them in the air fryer, and its done in 15 minutes..
I used to order every other day, until I realised i was spending between 200-300 monthly, and sometimes the air fryed nuggets/ chips taste better than takeaway...
NoseGraze@reddit
Maybe once a month. I really like cooking and most of the time I find takeaway disappointing and I could have made something better myself.
AF_II@reddit
Once a week takeaway & we usually also do a meal in a restaurant/cafe/pub somewhere once a week on top of that.
Thorpedo870@reddit
That used to be be me and wife...nice takeaway on a Friday and then nice pub/restaurant on a Saturday.
Now whilst I can 100% afford it the recent inflation has made me refuse to do so. Plus trying to be a more healthy (the price principle is more important)
AF_II@reddit
I learnt "use it or lose it" the hard way through covid so if anything we're eating out more to keep places we love afloat, we know a lot are struggling. The prices aren't their fault most of the time, at least not at the places we support.
Randomn355@reddit
But if it doesn't stack up as worth for it, losing it is a moot point.
Because it wasn't worth it in the fort place, that's why you didn't go.
This is what people forget about "corporate companies destroying independents". Ultimately the reason you buy from a big corporation/chain/whatever else is because ultimately they have offered you better value in the first place. That's why you chose there instead of the independent.
Which begs the question , if the independent wasn't worth it for you in the first place, why is the idea of it going under going to change that?
AF_II@reddit
I don't understand your comment at all. We did go, that's why we love them and want them to stay open, and why we continue to go even though they've had to raise their prices a bit.
Randomn355@reddit
Sorry I meant it in a general sense of the area. If people want it to be supported, they won't need to make a conscious effort to.
You may well be in the minority that does want to support it, and that's fine.
But when it's a tiny minority that isn't it enough to sustain it, that's when you see businesses going under. Whether that's loom makers, sellers of pagers, or independent stores of some description.
slimdrum@reddit
I read something about how fish and chip shops are struggling
It’s sad
Thorpedo870@reddit
You make a really good point.
We've started going to a local butchers to get all our meat now to support local.
When we do eat out, it's often at one or 2 chain places we enjoy ORa either A) local favourite independent or B) A michellen star or similar place with an overnight stay.
Some months were we spending 500-600 on food out
slimdrum@reddit
Look at this fat cat here affording stuff
No-Structure-8125@reddit
Including lunches probably 3/4 times a week, I'm not very good at making lunch in advance.
But proper takeaways I only get 1-2 times a month
maythesunalwaysshine@reddit

themightyone451@reddit
Once a month maybe 6 weeks.

Friday night we'll usually get pizza, but if it's a special occasion or I'm not well/not in the mood to cook we might get a random weeknight takeaway - although that probably happens only once every month or two.
But damn, pizza is expensive these days. We had to ditch one of the local places we liked because they wanted £1.50 to add fresh basil (2 leaves, it turned out) and £2 to add 'mushrooms' (which was clearly less than one mushroom, thinly sliced). I just can't force myself to be happy with paying £2 for 0.6 mushrooms.
imhiya_returns@reddit
Maybe once every 2 months
mr-seamus@reddit
About 2 / 3 times a week. Trying to cut down on the number of them but curry is life.
AvatarIII@reddit
Are you counting one curry that lasts 3 meals as 3?
mr-seamus@reddit
No because that would be mental.
AvatarIII@reddit
Buying 3 curries a week is mental.
mr-seamus@reddit
It is a bit lol.
CarlosIsCrying@reddit
Don't you feel grim?
I literally get a hangover type feeling after an Indian, so much stodge. Couldn't imagine feeling like that for half the week.
mr-seamus@reddit
No. Sounds like you have an intolerance or allergy.

Trick-Station8742@reddit
Honestly, get yourself to an Indian-style store and stock up on all the molain spices
We cook our own and we love it. I actually get super excited to go to that shop now just to see what else I can get
It's an initial outlay on the stuff but they last ages.
Id recommend buying rick stein's India book but there's tonnes of free and amazing recipes online
Bodkinmcmullet@reddit
Rick Stiens India book is fantastic
Get his Far Eastern Odyssey as well if you don't have it
Zestyclose_Key_6964@reddit
Yup, agree. Also, Dan Toombs “The Curry Guy” has some amazing recipes and if you have the time well worth the effort.
cannontd@reddit
Bought one of his books then I bought ALL the whole spices to make a chicken tikka masala from scratch and it’s beautiful. Dished it up for my sister and her partner and they demolished it, nothing makes me happier than feeding people good food!!!
Trick-Station8742@reddit
Yeah I've got that one. That rib recipe is other worldly
mr-seamus@reddit
Done it all, went through a spell during the pandemic of making BIR style curries with some good results... But sometimes I just want to bury my face in Anisha's bhajis.
Trick-Station8742@reddit
Id agree that I crave a takeaway curry every now and again

Rick stein is good, but he’s the typical ‘Jack of all trades’ type
I’d recommend Meera Sodha, specifically East or Fresh, both really good books!

Amen Brother.
AfterCl0ck@reddit
I'd highly recommend the How to Be a Curry Legend from the Spicery. It's super easy to use and has a recipe book. The curries taste just like they do from a restaurant (often better), particularly if you use ghee!
sanhuevo@reddit
I have literally 4 of their books! 3 curry ones and 1 taco one. So good and so easy to make!
AfterCl0ck@reddit
Are the recipes in the curry books different? I assume they all use the same 4 spice blends

My wife got the Dishoom cookbook. I take gunpowder potatoes to work for lunch 2 or 3 times a week. Smells and tastes astronomical

Dishoom’s Dahl Makani is so tasty and easy to make. I make a large pot and freeze it in portions so I can have it at least once a week.

I will get a kebab if I'm absolutely bladdered, but that's not so often these days (every few months at best).
Otherwise it's literally just birthdays, and I'm at the age now where I'm more likely to go out to eat for a birthday
lomiodien89@reddit
Once a week on a Saturday. I probably eat out twice a week as I'm on maternity leave and spend a lot of time out of the house. Then probably another lunch out at the weekend when my partner is off. Always breakfast/lunch as we are home in the evenings.
CardiologistEqual@reddit
A few times a year
Professional-Sir2147@reddit
Jeez, this question caused me to take a look at my budget app's take away/eat out spend per month and it was depressing viewing, some months I've spent over £300 on eating out and take away, more than I typically spend on groceries, with one month in the last year under £100. I haven't eaten out or had take away in 2025 so far though, so that's a win!
I don't really have a pattern, it's usually when I'm hungover or in a low mood. I had quite a bleak October and November so a fair few are from then. When I get take away it does tend to be over £30, I live in London.
PinnaclePennine1290@reddit
Last year me and my partner were doing 10-12 a month. Now it's around 5, 6 in a month. I'm still stuck between wanting it all the time and knowing it's money down the drain but it makes us happy.
bobdvb@reddit
It was once a week (Friday), but then a mobile chippy van started coming around on Wednesdays... Given it's just £20, I am too tempted.
Even the cat has got used to it now and knows Wednesday is fish night.
That being said, if my wife or I are feeling particularly fat then we might skip it. It's a skipable takeaway, but Friday is pretty traditional here now.

Once a month.
There’s not much variety here: Indian, Chinese, Fish & Chips, KFC, Pizza.
We don’t eat kebabs or burgers.

Usually once a week, normally at the weekend. We'd normally buy something we couldn't cook at home - e.g. this weekend we got salt beef sandwiches, potato latkes, and chicken soup. I'll normally drive to collect things.
Western-Necessary-78@reddit
This is an elite choice. B&K a place near me sells this and it's seriously good
811545b2-4ff7-4041@reddit
I went to B&K Edgware!
I also got some chopped liver.. goes amazing in the middle of a salt beef sandwich!
Western-Necessary-78@reddit
Try the Hatch End branch. For some reason it's a lot nicer. I have had the salt beef chopped liver combo. Pretty intense, but it does work
811545b2-4ff7-4041@reddit
But the man in the shop in Edgeware gives me a free fishball when I collect! It's already a 40 minute round trip to get it, so I can't be bothered with the extra 10 to get over to Pinner.
What I really need is someone to re-open a kosher (or Israeli-style) shawarma takeaway in easy driving distance from me.. I've got a good Turkish I go to in Borehamwood, but I need that Israeli chopped salad and tahini sauce. I would also accept something like a good Lebanese takeaway since it's almost the same.

Last year, we had one Chinese/pizza/Indian delivery a week, plus we would go to the chippy on a Friday.
This year, we are only allowing the chippy Friday to save money. So far so good 👍
So one a week now.
cvbk87@reddit
I know why, but chippy’s are so expensive now too! We had one yesterday and spent £40, weeks didn’t even get a lot either
hopeful-gym-bunny@reddit
Just the two of us. We always have cod and chips each, so £18 when we fetch it. Portions are good where we live. I do think this is expensive, but if we were to have an Indian or Chinese it would be £27 to £40 depending on what we would have.
bvh85@reddit

Quite recently we’ve started having an Indian takeaway once a week, I don’t really like fast food or takeaways but this place is SO good! Like insanely good! There is only 2 of us so we can get away with ordering one curry and one rice, and normally a side, and it comes to about £27 with delivery, so worth it!
Sufficient-Star-1237@reddit

ProfessorYaffle1@reddit
Once evey few months - I think the last time was in about September - Fish and Chips from the mobile chippy that goes to my mum's viallge on Friday evenings.
Booboodelafalaise@reddit
That’s unlocked a childhood memory.
Hearing a scream of “IT’S HERE!!!!” from the first of us kids to spot the chippy van arriving. It was followed by a stampede down the stairs, and everybody pushing and shoving to find their shoes and get out of the door and into the queue.
Nowadays, I’d probably think the chips were a bit mid, but back then they were the food of the gods.
Fattydog@reddit
Same for us. We usually get a chinese every three months or so. We make our own pizza from scratch every week, and make our own currys.
BackgroundGate3@reddit
Almost never. I live on my own and wouldn't consider having a takeaway for one delivered. Getting in the car is too much trouble. I can cook something myself in the time it would take to fetch it

once per week or less. When I go abroad to visit my family my partner orders take away for him and our dog twice a day!!
Ravo93@reddit
Once, maybe twice a month if it's an occasion I.E payday Friday. November and December last year were a bit over the top I was probably having 1 a week. I've found deleting Justeat and Deliveroo have helped massively as there is no temptation to have a browse. I either have to go directly to the place or know which places have their own delivery service on their website.
fussyfella@reddit
It probably averages about once a week, but we also eat out at places we might get takeaway from too (like our local Indian restaurant) about once a week too.
h00dman@reddit
2-3 times a week, and far too much food each time too.

Mostly Once a week , rarely twice a week. However when we go away on holidays at lest one meal a day Is takeaway or pub meal, as in if we buy lunch we cook dinner and visa versa
CarlosIsCrying@reddit
0-1, but mainly 0.
Takeaway used to be a quick, cheap option. Now it is the same slop and not to dissimilar to eating out. I'd rather go to a restaurant and have a sit down meal than eat my battered chicken balls in front of The Masked Singer.
EpicFishFingers@reddit
Basically never, if I can avoid it. My mates and I meet up for a curry every 2-3 months but that's it
I find the effort of faffing around with an order to be comparable to just chucking something in the air fryer and putting some rice on, and the delivery times are longer, too. Local chippy is as far as it goes.
I get the days when I cba to cook but even then it's just leftovers in the microwave or a frozen pizza, not a slow and expensive takeaway
hypertyper85@reddit
About once a month we try and make it but sometimes it twice. Just once a month to try and be healthier
elissapool@reddit
Never. Or maybe once or twice a year
Historical-Eye-8095@reddit
That makes sense! Growing up with that mindset can definitely shape your views on spending. It’s easy to see takeaways as a luxury when they were treated as special occasions. Sticking to familiar places like a chippy can feel more comfortable and affordable!
ohohmoomoo@reddit
Takeaways? Twice a month if we’re lucky Eating out? Way more often, depends on what you class as eating out? If we’re talking going to a pub or restaurant 2-3 times a month, if you’re talking getting Greggs or a meal deal from somewhere I’d say about 10 times a month.

Bulky_Yesterday_5809@reddit (OP)
Maybe get a savings account/jar that you put the money in that you’d spend on a takeaway each night so you get into the habit of watching your money go up each week
Bulky_Yesterday_5809@reddit (OP)
Do you do a big shop the start of every week? I plan our meals breakfast, lunch, tee and snacks. That way I can’t justify eating out/takeaways. I leave Saturday evening blank so it’s a treat to look forward to
mylovelyhorsie@reddit

GovernmentNo2720@reddit
Once a week when I get tired of cooking after coming home from work and having to think of new meal ideas for my husband and I or whether to rehash the same old tired recipes we’ve had on rotation for so long. For me it’s not about the taste or excitement of having a takeaway - it’s just me being happy I don’t have to think about dinner.
Bulky_Yesterday_5809@reddit (OP)
This is exactly why we’ve got into the habit of once a week! The fact you don’t have to think about what to cook, or having to cook and clean seals the deal each week.

It was every day, but we're cutting back heavily. It's hard sometimes. It's a time thing mostly. I don't know how people get in from work at 6-6:30, make a meal, spend any time with their family before going to bed. Especially if it's been a long day.
It's interesting to see some of the answers in here, that they keep Pizza Huts and kebabs as a special treat. I use them as filler to get through the day. Making food for me is the special treat.
Kinda wild how flipped that is. But I think that's fair. Takeaways are horrible for you lol.

‘Fish’ and chips roughly once a month (fish like that as I’m vegan so it’s veggie spring roll, mushy peas and chips)
Then I’ll get a dominoes every 2-3 months, but since they scrapped their vegan/ veggie nuggets, and hiked up their prices I haven’t bothered.
Then when I visit my friend in london(around 6-8 times a year) we’ll get takeaway at least one of the nights.
I live rural and dominoes and subway are the only two places who deliver. Subway is such a ridiculous amount of money for sandwich, I don’t know who buys them. If I’m paying out for a takeaway, I want more than a sandwich, a crappy one at that.
jamiedix0n@reddit
I just waited 2 hours for a KFC and then uber cancelled. So currently 0
Kitchen_Owl_8518@reddit
Growing up in the 90's (for reference).
We'd have a Chinese/fish supper/KFC (still laugh at my Dad calling it Kentucky for some reason) as a once a month treat.
But for comparison sake those meals for a family of four would be less than £20 with change.
Now a KFC bucket is nearly £30 with less chicken and choice.
As an adult I never would buy takeout because for most of my 20s I was broke as fuck.
Now I can afford it, I scroll through deliveroo baulk at the price for what is essentially a tarted up burger and chips for £20 have a sulk and just make something we have at home.
Pizza Hut/Dominos is probably the last places I feel I get value for money with leftovers for lunch the next day.

earlier this month i got 3 in the span of about 9 days. before that i'd had maybe 1 in the last 2 months. varies a lot, i don't have a quota, best way to know if you're dependent on something is if you have a quota! "it's takeaway day" sounds a lot like "it's wine 'o' clock"
missxtx@reddit
I go to my mum n dads on a Saturday for dinner… they buy the takeaway. If it wasn’t for that I would hardly have any now. I used to treat myself on a Friday night but for a single person now and most places around me having a minimum order of £15 I end up over ordering to make up n then delivery on top it adds up.. I probs spend more time opening the app, looking, adding then closing it because I can’t justify the fees 🤣
Don’t get excited thinking I make nice fancy meals… 🤣🤣.. I can live on cheese toasties for a week.
I take a packed lunch to work but sometimes I join in with “fat Fridays” and get with the rest of them. Xx
when I first started my new job and an attempt to fit in.. I got one almost everyday 😩

2 to 5 times a year. I really love weekend cooking and my wife does the midweek stuff. I'll probably be an outlier but when I do get a takeaway it will be something that would take me an inordinate amount of time or money to make myself.
Gisschace@reddit
I’m the same, enjoy cooking a lot or I’d rather go to a restaurant and make an evening of it. Most stuff you can get just as good in the higher end supermarkets but not as expensive and you don’t have to wait for ages for it to arrive and it’s gone cold
JustInChina50@reddit
I agree. I'll only go out to eat if I can't make the food myself - either it's too technically difficult or I've not tried it before. I've been making English, Indian, and Italian food for over 10 years and last month started making Thai food. Plus, I will not have food delivered as I prefer to eat in the place it was cooked (I think they'll take better care if you're actually there).

We accidentally had 3 last week. Monday lunch chip shop chips and curry sauce, Wednesday was Burger King Whopper meals, 2 for £10.99 from the app, and a Chinese on Saturday. Mdl8922@reddit
It's fairly greasy but more restaurant-y, and probably mid range in terms of price? For almost half the price I can go into a dirty takeaway & get a proper pizza that'll have me regretting my life choices once I've finished it.
The local restaurant ones all closed down (Covid I think) but there are loads of delivery ones.
AceyFacee@reddit

I always used to be good with it. Never had many takeaways growing up it was a special occasion thing. Now I get one per week. It's one of my few vices.
I hate cooking so much, and usually by the weekend my dinner food shop has run out and I don't wanna waste my time walking down to the supermarket, picking out ingredients, walking back, then preparing it and cooking it. I get one, or two days a week to try and relax.
If I feel depressed or sick I might even get two in a week sometimes but I'll usually make one of them a cheaper one.
I would like to try and cut down but I just hate cooking so much and I have never really gotten into meal prepping. Sometimes I just don't want to think about making food and spending maybe £15 is worth that.

Payday treat, so once a month. Takeaways are too expensive to justify most of the time when we already have food in the house.
Slyfoxuk@reddit
I agree they are expensive for what they are but we are lucky to afford them, if we do something like go out to a cinema or boardgame cafe or for a couple pints we'll take that out of the same budget, would much rather prefer that as we're actually doing something and getting out the house and socialising.

There is an exceptional Indian in our area. It's pick up only due to the usual issues running reliable delivery services, and I think the place didn't want the possible bad feedback because of it.
Because of the price of takeaway food the most we've done is once a month, though it's been a couple of months now and I'm looking forward to one hopefully in January.
We keep a good stock of emergency food like a loaf of frozen sliced bread, baked beans, plain noodles and soy sauce, and frozen veg, so even if we're both too tired from work to cook we won't starve.
Slyfoxuk@reddit
Ours is a Friday night or Saturday if we're busy, once a week, but often times if we go out to do something social we end up spending a similar amount at a venue doing something so will often forego our take away that week. Surprising how expensive going to a gaming cafe can be for example if you stay a few hours and have a couple coffees and snacks
CyGuy6587@reddit
For me, it'd be quicker just to fix something up at home than to get a takeaway. Haven't had one for a good few years now.
LavenderAndHoneybees@reddit
In terms of eating out at a cafe or restaurant for lunch or dinner, at least once a week - I'm self employed and my partner is still on paternity leave, we need an excuse to get out the house. Ordering takeout to the house? Literally never, it'd be £30+ for something i could make a lot better at home, so there's no appeal really
Capital-Glove-9140@reddit
Takeaway Friday baby 🤘
Erizohedgehog@reddit
Less than once a month - just never fancy it ! Which is good as I’m skint haha
planetf1a@reddit
Probably once every six months, but will go to a restaurant more often
SmallCatBigMeow@reddit
If I fancy a takeaway I get a ready meal from the supermarket or some frozen pizza. I’ll get takeout only with friends who want it. Massive waste of money in this economy
LakesRed@reddit
Slipped into once a week recently. I want to rein it back in to "once in a while" (once every couple of months or so) but January is a cursed month when it comes to commitments
xDARKFiRE@reddit
My bank app says I've spent over 1k on takeaway delivery in the past month
3-4 times a day if you count coffee delivery Work from home, very busy, ADHD, depressed AF but can afford it
aerialpoler@reddit
I actually just worked out today that I'm spending almost £200 a month on takeaways (mostly work lunches) which I'm horrified at. It's more than I spend on groceries.
gloomsbury@reddit
On average, probably once or twice a month? To me it's an occasional treat, usually after a hard day of work. I can't really afford to get them frequently.
I do keep a stash of ready meals and convenience foods for when I'm too tired/ill/depressed to cook properly, though.
iamanoctothorpe@reddit
Twice a month, I'm overweight but it's more down to bad habits the other 28 days
BeatificBanana@reddit
I would say it averages around once or twice a month. It used to be more like once a week but takeaway has got so expensive now that it's costing us about 50% more than it used to. Used to spend around £28 on a Chinese for me and my husband, which would be enough for leftovers the next day (a starter each and a main dish each - no rice as we prefer to save money and just whack some in the rice cooker while we're waiting for the food to be delivered). But now the same exact order cost us £42 last night, with all the delivery fees and service fees etc which have gone up as well as the food. So it's just not sustainable to have takeaway very often anymore. We've completely stopped getting takeaway pizza, we just whack some toppings on a naan bread now
Agitated_Nature_5977@reddit
I am not sure if my standards are changing but I used to love a takeaway. Nowadays I genuinely feel I can make something better tasting at home for cheaper.
Significance_Living@reddit
Few times a week. My partner doesn't drink and therefore I don't drink that much especially if I'm with her. We don't spend much on anything else. It's our folly I guess
aperturephotography@reddit
It's usually Chinese (cheapest out of all of them), £30-35 does me, the missus, 2 picky kids and a toddler. That's maybe once every 6 weeks. Or birthdays.
Money's proper tight though so it's been getting less and less
CressEcstatic537@reddit
Once every 3 to 6 months.

Learned the secrets of Chinese takeout cooking & make my own - so no
Also do Korean, Thai, Malay & Japanese.
mercia2022@reddit
I used to be really bad a couple of years ago verging on 3/4 times a week. I hardly ever get one nowadays, maybe once every couple of months? I enjoy it at the time then I wake up food hungover with a bad stomach and it’s not worth it.
Cooking is tedious but I feel nourished after eating a balanced meal and I hardly feel bloated anymore. I’m always glad I took the 30 mins prep over the five mins of instant gratification but I’m never glad after eating a takeaway that I got it. Plus my bank has dramatically improved!
Emergency_Mistake_44@reddit
I'm a delivery driver for a Chinese takeaway and can confirm some people out here are ordering 4-5 times a week.

Maybe 3-4 times a year. I cannot justify the cost at the moment. I like a really nice Thai or Indian meal occasionally- something that I couldn’t cook at home. But apart from that we make Fake-aways for the kids, thankfully they love chips from the sirfrter as much as from the chippy!
kitknit81@reddit
Once every couple of weeks we get a takeaway. I WFH so no takeaway lunches and hubby eats for free at his work.

What we’ve done recently when fancying a takeaway is go to a supermarket and get £20/£30 of ‘nice’ stuff we wouldn’t usually get. More fun and you can get the £6 pizza or £3 chocolate bar etc. This happens every 2/3 month.
dadreflexes@reddit
I will tend to eat out at some point on the weekend - eg cafe lunch, pub toast, or a simple delicious croissant and coffee - but very rarely in the week. I just prefer cooking! If I really didn’t want to cook I’d be more likely to walk to the local super market and get something to bung in the oven/pizza.
Diddleymaz@reddit
Once a month most of the time, but sometimes more often.
Dnny10bns@reddit
Rarely. Usually a kebab after a night out. Cos I can't afford to do that either, they're very rare occasions. I'm a pretty good cook so take aways don't really interest me. F ex, had some salmon fillets in the freezer and made a green curry paste to make a Thai soup, seared the fillets, steamed some broccoli, added chopped carrots and mange tout with coriander and chilli's for garnish. Good thing about Thai food is a lot of ingredients freeze so they're nearly always on hand. That paste lasted for two salmon soup curries and will do another chicken one (3 servings). I don't need to eat out. It's a waste of money.
iamthabeska@reddit
One a day during the week , courtesy of work. Prob once a month at home.
lordofthedancesaidhe@reddit

PmMeLowCarbRecipes@reddit
More than I should. Unfortunately I have the type of personality where I feel like I deserve a little treat several times a day.
CliffordThRed@reddit
Once every few months delivered to the house. Every week I go thro either KFC or McDonald's drive thru tho
poshbakerloo@reddit
Generally never, there is a nice pizza restaurant that also delivers, sometimes I may treat myself to that but it's literally 4 times per year. I don't think I could afford to spend a fortune on takeaways anyway. I live comfortably but that's because I keep spending on crap down to a minimum. I spend about £40 per week on food, mostly veg and salad with some fish and meat.
snow880@reddit
I buy lunch once or twice a week, usually the day after my late shift as I’m not making lunch when I get in at 10pm and Fridays when all the healthy stuff I bought on Sunday has either been eaten or gone off.
We tend to have a takeaway a couple of times a month, when we are both too tired to make anything but we’ve started to cut back on this a bit as it now costs the same a posh meal out used to.
Alt4Norm@reddit
Varies really.
1 every 3-6 weeks probably.
greenarsehole@reddit

We don't.
It's a handful of times a year.
So maybe every 2 or 3 months some times longer.
newskycrest@reddit
Not as much as we used to that’s for sure. Once a month maybe? Prefer to spend money on a pub lunch than a takeout if we have the cash.
alwayz_optimistic@reddit
Depends if I can afford to or if I cannot be bothered cooking. I have a boyfriend who is picky about what he eats, an autistic son who has a meltdown ifnsomethings not right and my oldest who doesn't like certain sauces so finding things to cook can be hard. But pizza or mcds usually works a treat. It's stressful! Don't come at me, I'm trying!
portra315@reddit

AyCarambin0@reddit
Maybe once a year, but I doubt it's even that often. If I eat out, I eat out and don't bring it home with me.
Robotniked@reddit
Maybe once every two months or so, it’s an occasional treat for us, if we did it any more frequently we would be dead because we are intrinsically incapable of ordering a normal human amount of food from a takeaway.
pokeyminkymoo@reddit
I maybe get one 2-3 times a year. We don't have great choices where we live and I am always left feeling a bit disappointed when I do get one.
Latter-Sort-7924@reddit
Never. I grew up as only doing that on celebrations and that kind of stuck.
I did go through a period when I first got a job that I ate out ALL the time. Like 5x nights a week, probably because of the novelty and I actually prefer it being for special occasions now.
KezzaJones@reddit
My biggest addition is takeaway.
I’m not even kidding. I found it easier to quit smoking (after smoking for 7 years) than stopping takeaway longer than 2 weeks.
Fortunately I’ve managed to find a balance where I can still have roughly 3 takeaways a week and hit my fitness goals. I was having 3 takeaways a week and still had abs.
The key is to just ensure you don’t eat anything else that day.
presterjohn7171@reddit
About once every 3 months.
alpha_red2003@reddit
3 time a week, if not a takeaway I go out to eat to a restaurant. The rest of the days cook at home, helps I work from home, but one day in the office I always eat out somewhere that day and the other two on the weekends.
Remarkable-Ad155@reddit
Usually on a Thursday (Chinese, little tradition for me and the wife) and occasionally on the weekend.

Willing-Cell-1613@reddit

Nowhere near us delivers, so I may occasionally go to the fantastic Italian near us that does £13 giant proper pizzas (the guy who runs it imports the ingredients from Italy and the dough is delicious). But since I have to collect it, and am happy to eat an expensive frozen pizza like Crosta Mollica instead, I rarely go.
We have a chippy and a Chinese but in my entire 18 years of life I’ve never seen a single customer in either.
procallum@reddit
2020-2023 was really bad, we're talking like 4/5 a week...
Probably put on around 8 stone, maccies, kebab, parmo, pizza, sometimes 4 days in a row.
2024 managed to put that down to 2/3 (including date night).
End of 2024 into 2025 due to CoL issues, so far I've ordered 2 since Jan 1st, trying to keep it at 1 a week or 2 if its payday.
baby_oopsie_daisy@reddit
Once a week on a Friday. Routine is the other half meets me at the train station after work, we have a few drinks and then grab a takeaway.
It's a nice end of the working week treat
DelectablyDull@reddit
Basically never. I got myself a curry as a new years treat and just regretted it. Sure it was tasty, but all I could think was that I could have had three or four really nice treat meals froma supermarket for the same price, or better yet, just made something tasty out of what I already had in.
Once you get out of the habit anf don't have ne for a while, you realise they're mostly disappointing. Especially if you're even a slightly decent cook
FlowLabel@reddit
Basically never. I find places that are takeout only normally taste dreadful and if the place has a restaurant I’d rather get out the house for a bit of an experience and quality time. If I want to slob out at home I can just have some cereal or a sandwich. The idea of spending like £30+ for me and wife to eat a meal in our own fecking house where I have to do my own fecking dishes seems such a rip off.
charltheunicorn@reddit
about once a month, single parent now and it’s just so expensive on your own and feels wasteful as can never eat it all 😂
dxsgraced@reddit
Not gonna lie this past month or so with how much I’ve been working, I’ve not had a home cooked meal at all, either got food at work or ordered a takeaway. Normally it would be 1-2 times a week.
Thestickleman@reddit
Often. Sometimes like 3 or more times a week especially if I'm late back from work.
Always on a Friday or Saturday night as well normally. I enjoy take away
itsheadfelloff@reddit
Once every couple of months, it used to be less than that but when I do get one I'll order enough for a small family to feed my fat arse for a couple of days. Growing up we rarely had a takeaway, maybe a pizza now and then when my dad was craving it. At one point we must've gone the best part of a decade only eating my parents cooking.
Bungeditin@reddit

I work from home and realised I was spending 3-500 per month on takeaways, eating out etc. I would go out for coffee / breakfast most days, order lunch from places nearby and dinner whenever I felt like it. Menyana@reddit

Very rarely. Our town doesn't have very many options and when you take into account my allergies it limits the choice further. tropicalunicorn@reddit
I can’t remember the name of the show but basically rich people and low income families swap houses and budgets for a week. It broke my heart that the lower income families would always order a takeaway on the first night, it would be the biggest treat and they’d say something like ‘this cost over half our usual weekly food budget’.
Final_Flounder9849@reddit
Never. I’ve always got enough in to be able to make something to eat. If I don’t fancy cooking then I’ll eat out. Genuinely have never ordered a pizza to be delivered or an Indian etc. I’ve got just eat and deliveroo apps on my phone but have never used them.

verumity@reddit
I either only ever eat in a restaurant (once or twice a week?) or cook at home. Take out to me feels like a restaurant cop out - you nearly if not exactly pay the same price for restaurant food, it often comes late or lukewarm and you get everything usually in Tupperware/styrofoam as opposed to normal plates. Rather get a nice quick meal from the supermarket if anything and chuck it in the oven as a compromise for not cooking from scratch.
Health-wise I reap a lot of benefits from it, and my wallet too as I seem to see a trend of a lot of people my age (30 and under) having a hard time kicking a bad habit of takeaways of 3 times a week on salaried similar or less than mine.
Suspicious_Rub_7348@reddit
Most Saturday nights. Starting doing it when we moved in together, but was less frequent because we were young and had a social life. Still do it, but it’s most Saturday nights now and the kids are included. Not very rock and roll, but there’s something to be said for a takeaway on the sofa!

In the same time it takes to order a pizza, I can walk to Tesco, buy a frozen thin crust spinach and ricotta for a fiver, walk home, cook it, and have it ready in about the same time it takes me to order a mildly greasy, thick, and kinda soggy pizza that’ll cost me £15
Same broadly applies to most other meals I can order.
I also make a point of avoiding middleman delivery companies. They’re parasites that benefit nobody worth giving a shit about. They exploit the customers, the restaurants, and their ‘employees’. Fuck them, and anybody still supporting them.

Tbh I eat out at a restaurant once per week but only get a take away once per month. I find it’s roughly similar pricing now but portions and service is way better in a restaurant.
robster9090@reddit
Curious what people class as expensive for a take away ? I can get one for me and the mrs for 20/25 quid from different types of places, are people ordering more than that or what
Jammastersam@reddit
We had three last week so I’ve imposed a one week ban 🤣 We do usually get a Sunday night curry, we’ve done the maths and ordering rice, a main each each and a side, usually lasts us three meals and is pretty cost effective tbf.
Acceptable_Fan_9066@reddit
It used to be never. I always cooked from scratch (I also really like cooking). And then covid happened and I was so utterly depressed and miserable it became almost an everyday thing (!). I’m still trying to shake off the habit but since about 7-8 months the prices are absolutely INSANE so it seriously had an impact. Now it’s about once a month, and I’m trying to move to just to “once in a while”.
All that to say, COVID had impacts which I still see in my life today. Not great but i recognize that was the source of where the habit started.
eruditezero@reddit
Two or three times a day usually, depends how busy I am, sometimes more.
Poperama74@reddit
Waaaaay too much 🤣🤣
Savings-Carpet-3682@reddit
I’m noticing the answers vary between ‘three times a century’ and ‘no comment’
robster9090@reddit
Yeah there’s no middle ground between daily and disgust at even saying the word take away
romulus_remus420@reddit
I don’t get takeaways, but I eat out like once every week or two at one of the many cheap places to eat near me - I can get a gorgeous Indian or Vietnamese meal for like £10/11.
msmoth@reddit
Less than once a month, I think.
JeSuisJoey96@reddit
Maybe three times a year!
kazze78@reddit
Zero
Phantom_Crush@reddit
Mrs is in hospital right now and I work so don't have time/CBA to cook so I'm having 1 every day. Sometimes it's a relatively healthy sandwich but idc really. I walk like 25k+ steps at work every day and it's pretty physically demanding so I'm confident I won't put on (much) weight
MercianRaider@reddit
Twice a week for us on average.
Also say it is gonna be once (and for that) and ends up twice, every time.
Plot_3@reddit
Almost never. We live in the sticks and none of the choices are appealing.
NannaDilly61@reddit
Once in a Blue Moon. The cost for a decent Chinese Takeaway for me & mine is over £50 and although there's enough for the next day too, I just think that that's nearly as much as I pay for a week's food for us all!!
CroiConcrete@reddit
Maybe once or twice a year.. takeaway is very expensive and my air fryer does a wonderful job with minimal effort
Blue_Speedy@reddit
Once a month and I usually go in person to get it.
Dave_Tee83@reddit
At the moment it's maybe once every 3 months, it's all I can afford. Go back 6 or 7 years it was a once a week treat. I've just had to cut back and back, and so here we are.
the-holy-one23@reddit
Depends how my day has been.
Kind_Ad5566@reddit
Once a month.
Far too expensive with a family of 5 who all eat adult portions.
peachypeach13610@reddit
Trying to keep it to once a month, and stuff too complicated to cook myself. Unfortunately the quality/taste just doesn’t justify the amount spent most of the time in my area
Photek1000@reddit
Once a week on a Saturday, gives everyone a treat and a night off from cooking for me.
It can get pricey for a family of five, but whilst we can afford it we’ll keep doing it.
thatscotbird@reddit
Pre-baby, you’re lucky if I ever cooked my own food. But that’s including getting a hot roll from a cafe for breakfast at work, eating out at restaurants, etc. nothing except laziness & the disposable income alongside it
We still get takeaways maybe 1-2 times a week but restaurant visits are much less now, although during maternity leave I did have daily costa trips.
RiceeeChrispies@reddit
Payday treat.
Although if a good deal pops up, and it’s cheaper than buying in (I’m single, so can be) - I buy then as well. Pushing the boat out…
Fresh-Pea4932@reddit
Maybe 2, 3 times a year? Family of 4, easily ends up being £50, 60 (and that’s at East Midlands prices).
Poo_Poo_La_Foo@reddit
Approx zero BUT not out of choice.
I live in the countryside where there is no delivery/take away options (maybe one or two but not to my standard). There are a few places you can order and collect, but, this defeats the point to me.
HOWEVER when I am away (London, Edinburgh or other places) I get so many take aways! Because its such a novelty. Sushi, being my No. 1 option.
becca413g@reddit
Couple of times a year normally.
Fullingerlish@reddit
I go out for food with friends every other week
CatsCoffeeCurls@reddit
Few times a year, if that.
Affectionate_Day7543@reddit
Maybe 4-5x per year. There’s only one takeaway near us that’s any good which help tbh. But it’s a traditional curry house and their curries are always amazing so they get saved for celebration treats or as a pick me up when we’re both sad and cba to cook.
dazed1984@reddit
Takeaway at home maybe once a month, at work 1 day a week I will buy lunch.
yourefunny@reddit
When I lived in town. Probably 1-2 times a week. Now we live out in the country a bit. Only like 5-10 mins from town. Maybe once a month. Focus on cooking as we have a lovely open plan house so can play with the kids while cooking.
Madwife2009@reddit
Never. Can't afford it.
RetroRum@reddit
It used to be one a month but it's more like one every two months now.
My wife is an amazing cook and enjoys doing it so we only really have them when neither of us can be arsed.
Sensitive_Ad_9195@reddit
Including ready to eat lunches that I nip in take away? Probably about 10 a month on average. I’ve never really gotten back in the swing of sorting my lunches for work since I’ve been back in the office.
Sgt_Sillybollocks@reddit
Every other Saturday. A pizza on my way into my night shift. Usually get a load of freebies as well now Ive become a regular. Instead of going out drinking I work most weekends so a pizza twice a month is better than a shit load of beer.
ArtichokeDesperate68@reddit
Zero to one - It's the cheapest of the cheap food usually packed with salt, sugar and MSG to make it taste nice and give you that 'treat kick'. It's junk. Much prefer to make quality fake-aways at home.
stormy_councilman@reddit
What a barrel of fun you seem to be
Charming_Rub_5275@reddit
Takeaway doesn’t necessarily have to be the cheapest of cheap rubbish food.
Some is, sure.
spattzzz@reddit
Once a month on payday week.
butdidyoulive@reddit
Zero.
Footprints123@reddit
Maybe 6 times a year? It's just so expensive it's hard to justify really.
Yousaidtherewaspie@reddit
It varies. Most of the time I like to cook, but occasionally me and the missus will get one, or we'll go out for dinner.
But, if I'm just back from a deployment with the RAF, then that first week I'm home, local takeaway places are rubbing their hands together!
TyrannicHalfFey@reddit
Typically once a month. Unless it’s Strictly season, then every Saturday.
dbxp@reddit
Maybe once every 2 or 3 months
Boul_D_Rer@reddit
Just about to take out a Klarna loan for tonight’s takeaway.
m1nkeh@reddit
Once a week tops
Savings-Carpet-3682@reddit
Barely ever. Most of it is total crap when you think about it.
I know some people who will have food delivered like every day. Whether it be a takeaway or a greggs from deliveroo (yes that counts as a takeaway)
EatingCoooolo@reddit
Maybe once a month. Rest of the time we cook at home.
Brian_from_accounts@reddit
Never had one.
SummitSnacker420@reddit
You never had a takeaway ever?
Brian_from_accounts@reddit
Food you take home to eat like indian or chinese or pizza - I’ve never had it delivered or brought it home.
MAGICAL_ESKIMO@reddit
That's so wild. So much so, it's hard for me to believe. I've never met anyone in my real life that has never bought or ordered food of some description to eat at home.
Brian_from_accounts@reddit
Food allergy
MAGICAL_ESKIMO@reddit
Damn, that's rough!
SummitSnacker420@reddit
Just seen the edit. Makes sense.
amibannedalready@reddit
I had 2 last year
klmarchant23@reddit
Maybe couple of times a month, but often on the way back from a match we’ll grab a ‘fast’ food type meal in the car. We usually get a Chinese / chippy once a month or 6 weeks or so. We like to alternate between eating at the restaurant and bringing it home too.
Better_Concert1106@reddit
Not more than once a week but I try and limit to every couple of weeks. Where I always fall down is after the pub on a Saturday, when the kebab shop calls. I need to get in shape and lose a few kg so ideally need to be having none..
Hotbitch2019@reddit
Probs a takeaway pizza once a month standard, but if the partner is away once a month I treat myself to a takeaway so not to cook.
But eating out in a restaurant (even a pub or cafe) probs like once a week (if that)
life_aint_easy_bitch@reddit
Probably averages to once a month. If I don't want to cook, I'd prefer to eat out.
Former-Tangelo426@reddit
Work gives me 2 takeaways a day, so at least 10 a week
EmeraldJunkie@reddit
Used to be once a week but the wife and I have kicked that habit to the curb. Been trying to watch what I eat and I've managed to shed 20KG since April of last year.
These days we only ever eat out/takeaway for special occasions.
che_gaston@reddit
Once every 3 months
Beneficial-Pitch-430@reddit
Saturday night, usually fish and chips. Have tried to change it to every other week but the children protested and I couldn’t be bothered to argue.
VanderBrit@reddit
Less than 1 per month now. Perhaps once per quarter
lyta_hall@reddit
Around twice a month
thegrammarunicorn@reddit
Once a week on a Tuesday evening as I work a late (retail) and don’t finish until 11pm, don’t get home until just before midnight so there’s no chance I’ll be arsed to cook. I just order a Wagamamas or Taco Bell to my store lol
thesimpsonsthemetune@reddit
Used to get them fairly often, but can't justify spending £30-40 on lukewarm mediocre food.
spreadbetter@reddit
Once or twice a week
I live in a part of London where I have too many options. Unless I have everything at home and my two kids are not fussy and I'm not busy at work or Errands when ill definitely choose to cook - healthier, cheaper but one day a week it's just the easiest option plus comfort from ultra pressure life.
InkedDoll1@reddit
Once a week. My husband WFH more or less permanently and gets a lot more though.
fanatic_tarantula@reddit
Foodhub gave me a nice rundown at Xmas of how many times I ordered from a specific takeaway last year. 102 fucking times. And that's just 1 takeaway.
Goal this year is to have none
Onewordcommenting@reddit
Not many takeaways, maybe once every 2 or 3 weeks. But eat out at a restaurant at least weekly, sometimes more.
FriendlyGhost15@reddit
Same as you. Once per week on a Saturday. It's our weekly treat.
GillyGoose1@reddit
Exactly the same as you, once a week, always on a Saturday or Friday night.
I also rarely eat out during the week.
DaisyLea59@reddit
I will get a little Macdonald's meal once a week. Maybe a double cheeseburger and a chicken mayo. I never get fries or a drink though.
Theres3ofMe@reddit
Used to be once a week, now:
A) not worth the money because of bang average quality for prices charged and; B) I got so bored of ordering thrn every week, that it didn't feel like a treat anymore. Got sick of picking the same shit and being mostly disappointed.
So now once a month. I eat out probably twice a month.
Objective_Result2530@reddit
I'd say once a month, unless we've got a new batch of edibles and then it'll be a flurry of about 3 in one weekend.
Double_Field9835@reddit
Maybe 5 times a year, over the last 10 years. Singapore chow mein from my local chinese 2-3 times a year, same with a doner kebab from my local. Prices seem to go up every time I visit.
Alarming-Bee87@reddit
Probably two or three a year. The times I do get one, I often regret it after. It's never as good as I think it'll be.
jammiedodger71@reddit
We eat out to the tune of £150/month. 2-6 times per month!
It is mostly sit down meals or McDonald’s when travelling across country to see family. Either way, far too much!
Once I’ve got my stuff together and get organised we will eat out/ order in less. I hope to cut it down to £60/month.
PsychologicalClue6@reddit
almost every day really 🥲
Competitive_Pen7192@reddit
Once a month with the family as a pay day treat.
Restaurants once every few months as the children are young.
For myself fast food lunches at work used to be weekly now I'm working somewhere where it's less accessible so probably once a month now.
buy_me_a_pint@reddit
Take away are a treat, maybe we have a take away once per year
Charming_Rub_5275@reddit
Once a year, Jesus
Mammoth_Confidence_4@reddit
One takeaway but everyone is buying him a pint
Less_Mess_5803@reddit
Last supper.
CassetteLine@reddit
Once a month for my wife and I. We limit to once a month, as we noticed during Covid it had become a once a week thing.
Then if we’re seeing friends that’s a freebie that doesn’t count to the limit.
Rude-Possibility4682@reddit
Used to be once a week,as a weekend treat. Though since I started cooking more, I only have about 3or 4 a year.
ert270@reddit
Every Saturday without fail.
Deep_Banana_6521@reddit
once a month around payday. Don't like to not cook but there's a very good and quite expensive chinese near us and my bf is always craving a chinese.
Did_OJ_Simpson_do_it@reddit
At least weekly
Willy_the_jetsetter@reddit
We were usually getting one weekly, but now it’s closer to monthly. The change was meal prep, having home made meals ready to heat up takes away the urge when you can do a reheat quicker than ordering in.
Stripycardigans@reddit
About once a month
I work from home so don't have the temptation of a lunchtime Gregs, so it's a rare weekend treat.
We occasionally order takeaway to be delivered but I usually find it a bit of a faff as they insist on parking vaugly near to my street and having me wander round to look for them. If I want a takeaway I want to be in my pjammas. If I have to put on shoes I'd honestly rather skip the meal.
ZeroCool5577@reddit
Never really anymore, we find it more of a treat to actually go out and eat so it’s more of an occasion and we do that probably twice a month.
Kinitawowi64@reddit
I'm functionally broke so once every couple of months at most.
mrayner9@reddit
I usually don’t get any for X weeks and once I get one I can binge for a few days like 1 each day. Probably averages at 1 per week
harpokuntish@reddit
Maybe twice a year
mebutnew@reddit
Takeout maybe once or twice a month, eat out (for lunches and dinners) maybe 3-5 times a month.
PatserGrey@reddit
Regulars, between pizza, chipper, chinese we'd do maybe 5-6 a month combined.
Then there's the more irregular (and more expensive) mexican, indian, turkish which might be a 1 every 2-3 months.
ReneRottingham@reddit
Maybe once a month
Content_Ticket9934@reddit
Once a week usually it varies massively. My husband does not cook. I cook and I work. I cannot be arsed. Like tonight. I cannot be arsed.
Mikon_Youji@reddit
Once a month, if not longer. Sometimes I go months without a takeaway because they're so expensive.
yorkspirate@reddit
Most days, sometimes twice as I'll use a cafe for lunch and then either a takeaway or the pub for dinner. I work long hours and by the time I've been shopping, cooked (which can be wasteful for a single person) and then cleaned up I may aswell pop to the pub for a meal and a few pints
20mitchell06@reddit
Couple a month
PurpleDec@reddit
I get about 3 a week 💀
Even_Menu_3367@reddit
Once or twice a month. Used to get it weekly on a Saturday night but these days it really doesn’t agree with my guts.
waxfutures@reddit
Too many. Usually two or three dinners a week, and I buy lunch in the coffee shop near work whenever I'm in the office, so usually 4 days a week.
I'd like to reduce it as part of a move to eat more healthily in general, but... well, you know how it is when you get home after a busy day and slow commute, and cooking is the last thing you want to do. Taking lunch into work seems like an easy change, but I'd have to remember to make it in the evening and pick it up in the morning, and it turns out those two potential failure points add up to guarantee I don't do it.
Yamsfordays@reddit
Have you tried a meal subscription like HelloFresh or Gousto? They really helped me out when I was in a similar situation to you.
waxfutures@reddit
Yeah, we did HelloFresh for a while a few years back - I found a lot of the recipes far too involved for my liking, but I'm still doing some of the easier ones now.
The problem I have is that I don't like/am bad at cooking, and I also have to consider what my mum will eat, and what reheats well for my brother who works shifts and often gets home about midnight.
Recklessreader@reddit
We usually get a takeaway once a month and eat out once a month but sometimes more for special occasions. I get work lunch out maybe once every 2-3 months and my partner gets work lunch once or twice a week
AllOfficerNoGent@reddit
We spend £160-£240 a month across lunches & dinners most months
MiniCale@reddit
Usually once a week usually about £30 for two of us.
MoistConvo@reddit
Usually once a week but I had a good cry today so we’re likely having 2 this week now!
baechesbebeachin@reddit
I can be 3 a day, or none for weeks. There is no in-between.
No-Photograph3463@reddit
Takeaways are pretty rare, maybe once a month max, and thats usually always socially with friends for something.
We do go out for food though once a week, whether that be a nice breakfast, a pub lunch or out for a great pizza or something like that. We always avoid the chain places though as they are just rubbish for how much they cost nowadays, it's far better to spend abit more in a local place with far better food.
sheslikebutter@reddit
How many times per week/month is "How many times per week/month do you get a takeaway?" asked in here?
kstaruk@reddit
Used to be once a week at least, recently it's been maybe twice a month but I only eat half of mine and save the rest for lunch the next day. Not because of finances but because I'm eating less overall
StereotypicallBarbie@reddit
Once a week..
querythoughtss@reddit
My monthly outgoings were so high and I couldn’t seem to find out why. I don’t shop much and I finally realised i used to get a takeout every other day! You really don’t realise how much they eat up your money. This year is different. I’m going to treat myself every month to a takeout and that’s IF I feel like it. By the end of Jan, if I’m not feeling it it will have to wait end of Feb and so on.
querythoughtss@reddit
That first line rhymes, someone sign me a rap deal.
NortonBurns@reddit
Maybe every month or two.
Saturday night is traditionally 'junk food night' - but we make our own, fresh from scratch; pizza, burger philly cheesesteak, curry etc.
binokyo10@reddit
Once every Friday of payday. Life in UK is not cheap, I learned the hard way.
manic47@reddit
One every two or three weeks usually. We probably eat out more TBH.
revrobuk1957@reddit
A takeaway will be about once a quarter but we have breakfast out every Saturday and might go out for lunch or dinner two or three times a month.
FrostyRydia@reddit
During covid 2-3 times a week as it was at the time cheap.
Now I've not have since it about 2022. Waaaay overpriced.
ShedUpperSpark@reddit
2/3 a week probably. Getting better and when I do I’m trying to have healthier options, chicken shish once a week usually
Real-Apricot-7889@reddit
Once or twice a month for takeaways - never really greasy unhealthy ones. But I eat dinner out at least once a week and then maybe buy lunch at work once every two weeks.
Wishmaster891@reddit
Twice a month usually
Messterio@reddit
End of month pay day pizza, my little treat!
5W4Y@reddit
Used to be once a week but things have gotten so expensive now that it’s more like once or twice a month
AwriteBud@reddit
Honestly? Never. Not because I don't like the taste or because of the price, but I just can't justify scranning 1000+ calories in one sitting. I'm genetically and 'culturally' predisposed to obesity- almost everyone in my wider family is morbidly obese- and I work hard to maintain my fitness and health, which is just easier if I forgo takeaways.
Beer, on the other hand...
NobDeRiro@reddit
Once a week. Usually a Friday but sometimes it’s Saturday. I’m on my own though, so I justify it to myself by saying “I could’ve spent that £15-20 on drinks in a pub” and then I don’t feel bad devouring my stupidly big sloppy pizza, but do sometimes feel bad afterwards/next morning
melanie110@reddit
None now. Health lock to get this last 3.5lb off.
But it used to be 4 times a month.
Before Covid wouod have been about 8 times a month
Sionnach-78@reddit
Once every couple of months maybe , can’t actually remember the last time .
Creepy_Radio_3084@reddit
Probably about 8/9 a year, but it might be twice in one month and then not again for another 3 months.
ButtercupBento@reddit
If we’re taking evening food then once a month, maybe. Tends to be after a few afternoon/early evening beers but usually we have something going in the slow cooker for when we get home
Lunchtime food - probably twice a month as the market near us has a huge selection of food from around the world like empanadas, bao buns, falafel, crispy sesame chicken, and falafel wraps as well as the more usual chips, pizza, and schwarma wraps. Most things are priced at £8 or under so when I go up the city I time it with lunchtime
E5evo@reddit
Maybe once every 3-4 months. I love cooking and since I got Kwoklyn Wan's Chinese takeaway recipe book few years ago I think we've had 2 Chinese.
gtr011191@reddit
Every Saturday night
CurvePuzzleheaded361@reddit
Never. Ditched carbs and ultra processed foods about 7 years ago to improve my type one diabetes. Dont miss them. Well actually that is a slight lie, once when I had been shopping all day and was starving I did get a bunless burger at five guys. So once in 7 years lol. Maybe the cost was enough of a shock
britinnit@reddit
About once a month.
Character-Bar-8650@reddit
Every Saturday night we have a takeaway last one was an Indian
Significant_Return_2@reddit
I last had one in October. I don’t really like them, I can cook nicer things, that are more to my taste, at home.
I batch cook stuff in the slow cooker and freeze it. There’s always something there. Tonight it’s chilli con carne.
destria@reddit
1-2 times a month currently. My frequency has gone was up since having a baby. We used to only get it once in a blue moon.
InitiativeOne9783@reddit
Once a fortnight.
roywill2@reddit

tiorzol@reddit
Both lol
Just not eating in.
sugarrayrob@reddit
For dinner? Once a week on a Friday night.
For lunch, a couple of times a week if I'm in the office. Will be a sushi set from wasabi or something.
For breakfast, once every couple of weeks we go to the local cafe for a breakfast, and my daughter gets pancakes for a treat.
2c0@reddit
Once a day some weeks. Other weeks none 🤷♀️ Always food in but too tired to cook most nights. Fortnight off over Xmas I had zero because I had the energy to cook.
SavingsSquare2649@reddit

pikantnasuka@reddit

Doomergeneration@reddit
Probably 4-5 times a year
Princes_Slayer@reddit
Maybe every other month, and usually because we’ve either been out and not yet eaten, so grab something on way home, or if I’m ill and want spicy food to blast my sinuses, I’ll get a curry ordered. Years ago it used to be a couple of times a week
mh1191@reddit

Jaffacake91@reddit
Twice a month usually! Although sometimes I’ll have one two days in a row, some weeks are like that!
Accurate_Prompt_8800@reddit

Agreeable_Fig_3713@reddit
Usually a Tuesday because I’ve got an extremely short space of time to get my older kids in from school and out to their clubs that are of course in opposite directions and run at slightly different times.
I’m nightshift so at work we sometimes order ‘dirty piece’ which is takeaway but it’s usually a collective thing. Celebrating someone’s birthday or last shift before retirement/maternity/new job etc
