How to make a lock pick out of household items?
I know most people will say ‘Paperclips’ but do they really work? If so how do you make em work
For a business purpose, to save locksmiths replacing locks if a guest locks their key inside their apartment.
Thanks

The best item for making a lock pick and tension bar would have to be the metal Blade that reinforces most windshield wipers. You can google typical pick shapes and 4 or 5 picks will work on a significant number of locks.

Hacksaw blades and windshield wipers.

I've made mine from stainless steel bike spokes

It takes a lot of hammering to get flat and a lot of filing to get the shape lol

What you want is an under the door tool you can make one out of parts from home depot

The metal part in old wiper blades is the best I find, I have Southord pick kits but did make up a few random ones over the years using:
Wiper blades Hacksaw blades Paper clips
Best lockpick in my set is the cordless DeWalt 4 inch grinder 😂

Just watch The Lock Picking Lawyer on YouTube to see how bad many locks are and how to pickle them.

Honestly for low-ish quality locks you can use what is just called a bump key. They work surprisingly well for what is essentially putting a piece of metal in a lock and just smacking it.

For DIY picks, cut down hacksaw blades are sturdy and about the right thickness (use an angle grinder). If you can get them, I've heard bristles from a streetsweeper brush are quite good for tension bars.

Yes, hacksaw blades are the way...

Usually its just the door fallen in the latch, get a bicycle spoke, bend it so that you can reach the latch and you can easily push it back.
SpaceCancer0@reddit
Bent needle + pin vice as your pick, bent street sweeper bristle at your wrench?
TheBonerificOne@reddit
Easy with a bench grinder, an Allen key and a steel saw blade.
Theoretically.

You can definitely bend paperclips into shapes that will work but a set of picks will surely be better. You can get a cheap set for like $10.

They sell a lock picking kit on amazon with instructions and training locks.

Best thing to do on this subject is to watch Lock Picking Lawyer on YouTube. Very fun, detailed and educational info.

No running in the hallway, or else consequences!

You can
3-d print them
bend a set with a vise, wire, and a micrometer
cut a set
freaking buy them on Alibaba for crying out loud.
BuiltMackTough@reddit
Print out a 1:1 pattern. You can grind them out of the wire in old windshield wiper.

Having made several picks out of paper clips I can confirm they work well enough for most locks, can recommend wrapping the handles with tape of some sort too.
