How do I choosing a football team?,Around Doncaster /Barnsley area.

So I live in place where Doncaster Rovers are around 12 miles away, Barnsley 11 miles away, Sheffield clubs about 30 miles away. I'm a Middlesbrough fan myself but fallen out of love at football at that level.I'll always be a boro fan but just get no enthusiasm for it now. I have two young children and would like to take them to games soon which team would be best and how do you decide how to. Choose a team when so many are close by? Anyone been to any of these clubs, what are the grounds like family friendly?, good food choice?, any of them have a decent atomshere?

If you’re falling out of love with football at championship level then Barnsley and Doncaster probably not for you either. Barnsley frequently get up to championship and Doncaster could easily find themselves a league behind it this year. Look into non league options, where you can have a pint and watch the game and the kids can be front row right next to the players. A lot of non league clubs could use with the support, cheaper tickets and probably a better matchday experience not ruined by refs wanting to be centre of attention, diving players and the ever increasing gap/ greed between the PL and the rest of the pyramid. For what it’s worth I’m a Sunderland fan

I an a Newcastle fan living in Nottingham and started going to my local non-league team about 3 years ago. It is cheap to get in, you can have a beer at the side of the pitch while you are watching (admittedly this is better in the warmer months), you will get to know everybody pretty quickly and it is real football. I also started volunteering in the off season, doing painting etc to get things up and running and now I am on the committee. It is a slippery slope and I wouldn’t change a thing.

Might also be worth checking out a local amateur Rugby club, the spectators are usually extremely friendly.

I’m afraid you’re duty bound to force your kids in to a life of misery by supporting the same club as you. Things will get better. I had a period where I couldn’t really care less about my team (Aston Villa) - those years of circling the drain in the Premier League were awful, seeing the full inevitability of it all play out in slow motion. Then Dean Smith came along in the Championship and honestly it was the most fun ever being a Villa supporter. Steven Gerrard was depressing but going on a European tour with Emery last season was awesome. Loved chatting with the European away fans. I guess that’s the thing. You’ll have bad periods supporting Boro. It’s OK to have a break sometimes. But the good times will come again. Make sure your kids are suitably indoctrinated to enjoy them!

It's been a fair while since I've been to Donny in fairness but I remember it bein rough as a bear's arse. Barnsley is fine. I'm a Sheffield Utd season ticket holder but I've been to Oakwell a few times recently since it's ten minutes down't road from me, it's a good laugh honestly. Guessing from the distances you live somewhere like Mexborough or Brampton or sommat? They both have non-league teams but you'll be looking at the counties leagues. Proper local clubs, expect a hundred-odd fans if that, but in my experience with that kinda club everyone's dead nice and you can have a proper pint watching the game.
