Biggest cruelty and tragedy of childhood and youth is you're so unaware of how damn good you have it when you have it (if you were even lucky/fortunate enough to have it in the first place). Siiigh.
A casual line in Bluey I overheard today when my kids were watching “Yep. Enjoy it while it lasts.” The dad talking to one of his little kids. The line just flows over my kids head, but stuck in my brain like a dart. Damn Bluey… you’re hittin hard.
I was in Jr. High in '96 and where I'm from, we only had one, maybe two school dances a year. However, going to the skating rink was a big deal. I wasn't exactly popular with the girls so it was Blockbuster for me on Friday nights.
1992 was more peak TGIF anyway, it was on the decline by 1996.
1992 had Dinosaurs and prime Family Matters in the lineup. 1996 had last season Family Matters when Urkle jumped the shark and the terrible Clueless show.
Unless you absolutely love Sabrina the Teenage Witch 1992>1996 TGIF.
Remember how Boomers romanticized the 1950s their whole lives because that was when life was simple and prosperous because everything was taken care of for them by their parents, but it seems so naive for them to do so because it glosses over the very real challenges facing society at that time, namely Jim Crow laws?
Let’s not be like the Boomers as we head into the second half of our lives, hmm? In 1996 Gays *definitely* couldn’t marry and in roughly half of the states in the USA, “sodomy” wasn’t even legal.
But yeah Gushers were yummy I guess
As much as I enjoy being able to stream stuff on demand now, it can’t compare to the pure joy of finding a good movie or two for the weekend at Blockbuster… asaahhh, good times 😌
Hahah I grew up deep in the mountains and we had to drive literally two hours for any chain food or blockbuster, but at least it was an option to go get it back then lol
We did Little Caesars on Fridays and a trip to Blockbuster or eventually Hollywood Video. I feel like we didn't catch TGIF very often but we did watch all the shows in syndication.
In the late 80s/early 90s, our family used to Pizza Hut. While waiting for the waitress to bring my free personal pizza (thanks Book-It) to come out my mom and sister would go the small video store next door and rent a Nintendo game for the weekend. Sitting there eating pizza and looking at the instructions for the NES game that would occupy the next couple days of my life may be one of my favorite memories of my childhood.
You and your best friend then spend an hour or so playing Super Mario 64 before you pop the movie into the VCR on your basement TV (Se7en, or Apollo 13 if your parents wouldn't let you rent Se7en).
