I *really* liked the /r/Random feature, do any alternatives have a similar way to find new communities?

I have literally had it as my homepage for well over a decade. I have tried searching a few times but never found a better way to consistently see new communities and perspectives which I would never have found on my own. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Redditrand.com is good!

Not quite perfect, but definitely the best option so far!

I am the dev, just discovered that people are actually using it lol.
Buy me a coffee took down my page because of the randnsfw button (they don't like adult content). But I just got a kofi set up so that should work now
Any suggestions for improving?

If it were me and I weren't absurdly lazy, I would make two changes:
1.) Allow auto-select of one of the buttons after a certain amount of time on the page, setting it with cookies or users seems like overkill, but you could just pull variables from the URL and give directions on the page. Something like redditrandcom/sfw=3 or redditrandcom/nsfw=4
2.) stick a banner ad on the bottom (not aggressive like a pop-up, but you still get something for your effort if you are providing a base feature for Reddit).

I'm a dev and have been playing around with the Reddit API. It would be really easy to create a website/app that would surface random Reddit posts, if that's what you're looking for? If it doesn't already exist, I like the idea and it would be a fun project.

How hard is it to pick up something like that?

Not too hard actually. If you poke around at the Reddit API you can figure something out pretty quick.
For example, I made this Reddit bot that connects Reddit to Lemmy, a Reddit like app on the Fediverse.

It did exist, but Reddit claimed it was too expensive and got rid of it, someone else linked a site with a button which takes you to a random one, but there is no longer a URL that automatically re-directs to a random reddit.

There used to be lots of subreddits like this, but the ones I know of were shut down after the bot-ban. ( r/mistyfront r/Serendipity probably more..)

Not sure if StumbleUpon is still a thing but that’s the OG /r/random lol

That was literally my homepage before I discovered r/Random, but I couldn't remember what it was called. Apparently it's called mix now and seems like Tiktok but with scrappers for several other websites as opposed to hosting it's own content...
