I got the time, now where to go?

Hello.
The summer here (US) is my work's slow time and I've secured 3 months off from June to August from work. I can keep my position and seniority and give this sailing thing a go. I want to know if I love it in practice as much as I love it in theory.
Where do I go? I can go anywhere in US, it doesn't need to be saltwater. I want to learn to sail, I want to crew for folks and get experience, and ideally I'd love to rent a boat to live on so I can see if I'll be able to sleep.
Are there any amazing places that have a bunch of sailing clubs where I can secure experiences like I've described before. I'm looking for not only a place to try it out, but possibly a future homebase once I buy my boat in a year or two. And looking down the road *hopefully* a mentor.
**Any suggestions?** I got bout 5 months to prepare, and I'm sure most towns on the water can offer some of what I'm looking for, but I'm really seeking that full experience. I figured y'all would have a ton of great suggestions just like when I narrowly avoided buying a boat and leaving everything behind on a whim a couple months ago.
Thanks!
