I’ve seen Jay & Silent Bob, Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Ninja Scroll too many times to mention

I don't think I've ever watched a DVD on a PS2. I started with a DVD-ROM drive and a REALmagic Hollywood Plus card in a PC. My first DVDs were Tron, Gate to the Mind's Eye, and Beyond the Mind's Eye.

I got a DVD player for Christmas in 2006 several years before I got a PS2. The first DVD I owned was The Wedding Singer.

X-Men was definitely my first. The DVD menu was 👌. The Matrix & Blade Runner were next. I know I bought X-Men in person at an HMV. Shortly after I signed up for a Columbia House DVD promo so I got 7-10 in one shot.

The matrix like everyone else, but the main reason I wanted a DVD player is because Tron was out of print on vhs but you could get it on DVD. I got my ps2 and my Tron dvd on release day.

For my wife and I’s wedding registry, we added Blade and Starship Troopers. It was kinda crazy how I got my PS2, I had added my preorder in like 1998, I didn’t even remember I had done so when it arrived October 2000. All I know is I was lighter by about $300 when I needed all the money for my wedding and honeymoon.

Half Baked, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and The Exorcist. Half Baked was played so much that the disc got replaced. My buddies and I used to put it on during our sessions and recite the lines. The Exorcist was a close second. I still remember falling asleep while it was on while auto-play was also active. I was awoken at 3 AM to "MAAAARRRIIIIIN!" I did not go back to sleep that night, and always remembered to turn it off before bed after that night

My first player was a Zenith display model I got marked down at Sears. I was a bit pissed when I discovered it wasn't one that could play hand burned discs and my dream was to find a combination laserdisc/ DVD player but I never tracked one down. At least I got a markdown. The following Boxing day I got my first few DVD's, Sheryl Crow Live from the Globe Sessions Tour, The Doors' Collector's Edition DVD which was their three late 80's and early 90's footage/ video collection titles on one disc with a bunch of extras and the movie version of The Who's Quadrophenia Rhino had put out. At the time it was a picture upgrade over the version show on TV but Criterion later did a better restoration.

I bought my ps2, a street fighter game and a Jackie Chan DVD at the same time. I was terribly disappointed by the Jackkie Chan flick as it was one of his romance comedies and not a quality action flick like I had seen before. It sure wasn't "Rumble in the Bronx"

I got my PS2 as a gift from my wife on the North American launch Christmas. I remember telling her repeatedly that I wanted a PS2 and *Ridge Racer V* for Christmas. I always hunted for gifts I thought would be really meaningful to her, and she hadn't tried doing that for me, at all. So, I was like, fuck it. I'm giving you the answer. PS2 and *Ridge Racer*, that's it. lol. They were flying off the shelves in the US and getting scalped. So she ended up buying one on eBay for $550 w/*RR* I started with two DVDs: *Terminator 2* and *My Cousin Vinny*. I watched the hell out of those, man. I'm not exaggerating; I watched them like 500-1000 times each. We were living in Japan and had only a small handful of English channels on satellite *SKY PerfecTV* (after *SKY Perfect* absorbed *DirecTV*), and obviously, there was no good streaming back then. When she had control of the TV, it was *Cartoon Network*. When I had control, it was *T2*, *My Cousin Vinny*, CNN, Japanese gaming infomercials, or I was playing *Ridge Racer*. Such a fun time to be alive, and 1999-2003 was a great time to be in Japan, as technology was hitting hard and the world's obsession with Japanese culture was skyrocketing.

I got a DVD player before getting a PS2. Not sure if this was just a UK thing, but in the early days of DVD players they used to pack in a few discs for free. The Lawnmower Man was one of these, but the others tended to be the sort of movies big stars made either five years before they got famous, or when their star had faded. They were also in a weird "different movie on each side of a disc" format that you rarely saw anywhere else aside from cheap collections of multiple B movies. So the DVD box would have names like Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Sandra Bullock, and Michael Caine displayed prominently, but the actual movies included with the player mostly tended to be guff not even their biggest fans would care about. Black Eagle with Van Damme and Sho Kosugi was probably the best of the pack ins.

The first DVDs I purchased were the Indiana Jones trilogy set. Up till then, if I wanted to buy a movie, I was still buying VHS, because at the time they were cheaper. Even after getting Indiana Jones, if I wanted to buy a movie, it was on VHS. I later bought the US DVD release of End of Evangelion and that first DVD release of the Star Wars trilogy set.

Too old to remember, but I do remember buying a lot of those budget public domain type movies that were basically a movie with a basic menu and no special features and often looked like VHS rips, they were from real companies not bootlegs though the Poundshop (aka dollar store) places all sold dvds for £1 of budget kung fu movies from the 70's, that just unlocked a memory. I do remember watching Josie And The Pussycats a lot through and UK Movies If Only and Divorcing Jack often and I know Divorcing Jack was an early release as it was double sided rather than dual layer that came out later.
