Would it be stupid to go to A&E for an ear infection?

Not sure if this is the right thread, but I’m posting here because only UK people can tell me if I’m being dumb for even considering A&E for this — or if it could potentially be the right call to make. On Monday, I had a really painful ear infection. I called 111, and the lady referred me to telephone appointment out-of-hours GP. I got antibiotic ear drops the next day. At first, only my left ear was infected, and it burst with a lot of discharge. Then the infection spread to my right ear, and the pain’s been back and forth. For 4 days now, my right ear has been completely blocked, and my hearing has severely decreased. Voices sound robotic in that ear (especially my own), and it’s freaking me out. I start a new job at a hospital soon with long shifts, and I’m afraid the infection is coming back because I put a bit of olive oil in my right ear to unblock it (stupid, I know). Now it feels heavy, and I really can’t risk getting that pain again. The antibiotic ear spray is a 7-day course, and I can’t use it past Sunday. The 111 lady said I should come in if it got worse, but I don’t know if she meant back then or in general. So, would I be an idiot to go to A&E tomorrow? Or could this actually be serious enough to justify going?
