What music/podcasts do you listen to while flying?

I'll usually do smooth jazz. If I'm getting sleepy some Van Halen or something like that.

Met a guy who listened to LiveATC while on flight following. The controllers must love him.

I don't. Airspace is too busy for that, and I like to keep an ear on the engine for any early indications of a problem.

Someone give this guy a gold pilot star! Sorry about your busy airspace, but good looking out with listening for engine problems.

Used to be Rush Limbaugh over the NDB. Days long gone.

Amen! Rush Baby here, and now that the ADF is gone from the panel and Rush has gone on to the great EIB studio in the sky, I resort to music. RIP Rush!

Did you also fly with a certain Pinnacle/Endeavor CA?

AX/LOF. And it was super common there.

XM mainly, but for podcasts Airline Pilot Guy and Opposing Bases. Music preferences: Explosions in The Sky (don’t worry about the non-aviation-friendly name, it’s fantastic low-level background music), Sigor Ros, Classical, Rat Pack stuff, Jazz. When all of that bores me, I go with 121.5 and if there’s nothing there, I talk to the appropriate ATC facility and talk about pilot stuff with them.

Probably the two most interesting topics you can listen to. I’m not talking about modern politics however. That’s all fantasy.

The smooth sounds of KGRD, which is someone meowing, followed by Delta getting very mad about it, which encourages even more meowing. Our Q400 fleet had ADF receivers, so any time someone left them tuned to right wing talk, I'd return the favor by leaving it on Radio Disney, or a Spanish language station.

Love how an industry that exists because of a comprehensive regulatory network that could only be enabled by a functioning government is populated with people who hate said government. Fucking house cats they are ... fiercely convinced of their own independence while completely ignorant of the entire infrastructure that keeps them alive.

XM Radio. Never podcasts - it’s top difficult to hear during radio calls and vice versa.

I don't understand people who can do podcasts, but I know a few.

I know that newer audio panels use Spatial Audio to help the listener differentiate the sound source… I still can’t do podcasts. Music is great because I can switch from actively listening to ignoring and back without a second thought. I have basically trained myself to listen for my callsign; as soon as I hear it I mute the music.
