Have you ever been mugged on the street before?

I've lived in some sketchy areas over the years and walked through places alone where it wouldn't have surprised me but touch wood I haven't been a victim of street robbery. Have you ever been stopped on the street before? If so, what happened and how did you react?

I was subjected to an incredibly feeble mugging attempt once. Small group of late teens, their heart clearly wasn't in it. They blocked my way and one of them kind of nervously demanded my wallet, I said no, they stepped towards me and I pulled my fist back to hit him. He flinched, the tension kind of evaporated, and I went on my way, waiting for a sucker punch which never came. Really fucking strange encounter.

Two blokes on a train tried to mug me for my Walkman when I was a kid. I just walked away when the train stopped. One of them tried to kick me in the head - he was on a train & I'd got on the platform - but if was a wimpy kick & didn't affect me. When I reached adulthood, people kept mistaking me for a copper - don't know why, maybe I look like Taggert - and I haven't had any issues since.

Not quite sure if it properly qualifies as mugging as it wasn’t violent but I was really scared. I was about 18 in a big city train station on my way home. A guy was selling what I thought was big issue, and I decided to buy one. I got my purse out of my bag and he snatched it from me and ran. It was a busy station during the day, I was so shocked. Thankfully a member of station staff saw and arranged for me a train ticket and helped me make a report. Nothing came of it though. Not quite sure that counts as a mugging, though. Another time someone bumped into me on a busy shopping street and snatched one of my shopping bags. It had an empty bottle of Pepsi, Parky’s autobiography and two bottles of cotton pads in it - hope they enjoyed it.

Yep as a kid in the 80s, the older kids from another area would shake us down, they would make us jump up and down so they could hear if we had coins in our pockets, they would then tell us we had been taxed, this is when the phrase 'taxing' first became a thing. If you had nice trainers you would end up walking home bare foot.
