To SUV drivers - does the extra environmental impact of driving an SUV bother you at all? And do you really need an SUV? Or regret getting one?

Firstly, im not having a go at SUV drivers and im no environmental activist. This question exists in my head because theres some SUV's i really like but i dont **need** the extra space i would just like it. Because of this i ask myself if i want to be another SUV driver adding to climate change and dangerous roads when i dont actually need one or just get a smaller car which gets me from A to B just the same. For context: "SUVs would be the world's sixth largest carbon emitter if they were a country" "non-electric SUVs produce 25 per cent more carbon emissions on average than a medium-sized car" "SUVs are less fuel efficient requiring more refuelling than a standard car"

How are you defining an SUV? And where did you get those quotes from? They have a bad reputation because in America they have 15-litre V8s and are used to potter to the shops, here just because someone has a Kuga doesn't mean the car is any worse than a Focus which is slightly physically lower, it has the same engine. Our vehicles are generally pretty good on emissions, just because someone has a car they can fit the kids and the dog in doesn't mean it's not a 1.6 litre petrol which does 45mpg and must be some awful gas-guzzling Range Rover.

They're not, they're really not let's just cut the crap and give the man a straight answer for once in our goddamn lives. SUVs get one half to 1/3 of the mileage of comparable year sedans. They are an environmental nightmare and nobody cares because everyone in the United States is a self-centered asshole. Thanks for coming to my TED talk
