Discord is the best alternative to Reddit

I think everyone is looking for an alternative to Reddit, but in fact the alternative was in front of them all the time. I think that Discord is the perfect alternative to Reddit for the following reasons:
1- Discord servers contain a forum feature identical to the subreddit in addition to chat channels and voice chat
2- Powerful and excellent tools for moderation and high customizability, such as adding roles, channels, etc., in addition to many good bots
3- Easy to use Unlike other Reddit alternatives, Discord is easy to use for almost anyone
4- Many people use it, you probably won't have to convince your friends to join Discord because they have already done so
5- You can create many forum channels (similar to subreddit) within the same server
6- Discord does not remove moderators or interfere in their affairs
For the following reasons, I find Discord better than many other Reddit alternatives, in fact it is the perfect alternative

Wow sound a like surf Account from the Discord sales team. Discord is terrible platform as a Reddit alternative simply for the fact that it is a closed ecosystem. If you are not a user/unwilling to become a user you are unable to access the information in a server. Discord will never be more than a chatroom service and trying to shoehorn Discord into these diverse applications was a terrible idea from the get-go.
SubstantialBag007@reddit
It's better simply because it doesn't have a karma and upvote/downvote system. Tacking on a gamification system to online communication was a horrific mistake. It works well when trying to weed out and filter content, but it's catastrophic when applied to conversation.

Believe me, no one cares about the "closed ecosystem", "open source" and "decentralized". People want an easy-to-use platform, and only this is what they are looking for. From my personal experience, all other Reddit alternatives are terrible and cannot continue to be used by most people, like what happened with Mastodon. I said my point of view in terms of ease of user interface, number of users and moderation tools
Kampfie@reddit
"People want an easy-to-use Platform" Right and Discord is not that. It's like with annoying cookie settings. If I go to your site/server and I cannot immediately find what I am looking for/need an account to access the information at all, I will simply leave and search elsewhere for the results.
And you know in this whole discussion we haven't even taken into account the most obvious fact. Discord Servers are not listed on search machines. To find and access a discord server I need to first visit another page. Currently it is either Reddit (oh the irony) or some kind of Discord discovery page and at this point the experience is not so far off from signing up to Mastodon.
Discord is not a viable alternative and without major changes it never will be.

In fact, it is easier than the Reddit experience, especially for the current Reddit users. This type of program cannot be as easy as Instagram or messaging apps because it contains many features
ioxhv@reddit
People don't want software to abuse us, no matter how easy it claims to be, and this is so obvious that most of us don't need to say it.
Kampfie@reddit
I cannot really subscribe to this either. People don't care if the software absues them. Just look at any product from Meta. (For example the Instagram App has some of the worst video players out in the web, yet millions use it daily.) However people do care about hard to access information. We browse the web today in search of the most easily available information. If I cannot find the info on your site in the first few seconds I'm off to another and if I need to sign up/click through an annoying cookie manager I won't even bother.
ioxhv@reddit
People doesn't want software to abuse us and it's so obvious most of us don't have to day it. How easy-to-use it is doesn't matter when their fucking is.
Sabrees@reddit
Discord is horrible IMHO

For me, it is better than the Reddit experience on the official app and easier to use
greenfingers559@reddit
One of the prime points of Reddit is that you can look something up on google and be directed to Reddit.
For example if I have a problem on my PC, I search Reddit for people who have had that issue through google.
That will never be possible on discord, and because of that there would be no way for discord to ever function as a forum.
SubstantialBag007@reddit
Yeah its good for finding answers, but TERRIBLE for having any meaningful conversation due to its gamification i.e. the karma and upvote/downvote system.
Scooter_Plumberbutt@reddit
The Reddit Mods banning people for nothing is what makes Discord better.
Gold-Pollution-9410@reddit
Nope. Reddit is far organised and has thoughtful conversations (with filters and restrictions ). Discord is a cess pool
LTlago@reddit
ah hell nah
jmpz11@reddit
This is the most painfully wrong post I've seen in a while.
DISCORD IS NOT A CONTENT PLATFORM. IT IS CHAT ROOMS.
Discord has a horrible privacy and transparency record. Discord is decidedly Anti-user... because 50% of the users are trolls, banning is too easy and there is no recourse.
Discord does not make it easy to find information. It isn't indexed by search engines, it's only accessible via a bloated webUI, You cannot search across DMs, there is no true pinning of posts, as there are no posts. There are no threads.
Discord is about conversation and conversation only. Everyone will come in asking the same questions because NO, YOU CAN'T REALLY SEARCH. The search is shite.
Researcher_1999@reddit
Remember that Discord servers and accounts get terminated by AI bots after someone reports them with no human intervention. Let me tell you how many accounts I've lost (4) and servers that got nuked (3) because of false reporting from people who were just trying to ruin me and the people in my group. With Discord, if you are an admin in a server that gets nuked then you lose your account.
Discord will never be a replacement for Reddit.
IRunWithVampires@reddit
I use Discord but no. Not a Reddit alternative.
No_Mango_1548@reddit (OP)
Actually Discord with Forums feature is a Reddit alternative
IRunWithVampires@reddit
Not really. It’s still a chatroom. Reddit is different.
No_Mango_1548@reddit (OP)
I don't think so, I think the forums feature is able to replace Reddit
IRunWithVampires@reddit
When I tried it, I didn’t like it too much. Lol. But maybe I’ll give it another try.
No_Mango_1548@reddit (OP)
Try you may like personally, I like it
IRunWithVampires@reddit
I will. Thanks.
ioxhv@reddit
Discord bans 3rd-party apps.
No_Mango_1548@reddit (OP)
At least you don't need them because their app contains moderation tools and is usable unlike the official Reddit app
Kampfie@reddit
Meh Discord Tools leave alot to be desired. Especially when it comes to Role Management.
Also just a reminder alot of the most used bots are server management bots like Javis or JAGPDB because they actually include features Discord still does not provide and setting up any large server without them is near impossible.
No_Mango_1548@reddit (OP)
I almost agree with you, but the bots are easy to use, and Discord has started to make these features integrated into the app. It actually provides an experience similar to Reddit, if not better than it.
dan1361@reddit
How do you go about finding new communities? Genuinely curious because I am trying to use it as my replacement.
No_Mango_1548@reddit (OP)
Discord has a page dedicated to exploring communities
Kampfie@reddit
These are only special and large communities. I cannot find small niche communities there.
No_Mango_1548@reddit (OP)
There is a search feature and it searches even for small communities
Illustrious-Age2593@reddit
Moderators don't get paid on Discord either, pass
