I want an AK since i already have ARs and was looking at a Century arms one specifically the VSKA Trooper. I would obviously prefer a Russian made or Polish made Ak but is this ak worth it at all im seeing i can get one brand new for around $600.

I have a vska trooper and I love it had it for a while put couple thousand rounds through it has done just fine

No if you want a budget AK look at the WASR10. Personally I'd pay more and get a Zpap or a WPB. Ammo is 50 cents a round so there is zero reason to cheap out on an AK. Century has massive quality control issues with their AKs.

It's hilarious to hear this, because nowadays everyone recommends the WASR, but back when I owned one, everyone said they were pieces of shit.

Back then, you could pick up a Vepr, Saiga, or Arsenal for $200-$300 more than a WASR, which was money well spent. Today, your budget friendly options that aren't literal grenades are WASR, Zastava, or WBP. Standards have also slipped. Used to be you could be picky about your factory furniture, inclusion of a cleaning kit, factory trigger, and proper (non-canted) sight installation, all without breaking the bank. Now the only concern is whether it will explode in your face, so canted sights and bad parkerizing don't matter so much.

How many rounds did you put through your VSKA before it exploded?
NinjaBuddha13@reddit
None, because I'm not in the habit of spending my hard earned money on products with a track record of losing headspace and exploding. If you want to throw those dice, more power to you. But I'm not a gambler, especially when it's not just my money, but my face on the line.

Yeah, and Wendy's Chilli has human fingers in it.

Huge difference between a single hoax story and a proven track record of questionable build quality up to and including loss of headspace and a resulting OOB. Not every VSKA is gonna spontaneously disassemble, but for the money, there are plenty of other options with a much better record. Glad yours has been solid though.

Early VSKAs may have had some QC, though that's a staple of all century arms AKs. But there are very few, perhaps singular, examples of the VSKA exploding or experiencing nearly the same level of the RAS47(also century arms) various failure modes. Century Arms definitely seems to have improved something about the VSKA from it's earliest runs, because later serial production models(like mine) function pretty well after a thousand rounds. Cast trunnions are always gonna raise a few eyebrow against forged trunnions, and for good reason, but this isn't unique or even especially common with the VSKA
There was a questionable video by James Yaeger and Tim(MAC), but it really is a questionable video as they got out a engineer hammer and beat the shit out of the pin after the VSKA didn't fail immediately. Robski, GunsNGear and Brandon Herrera have also done similar videos on the VSKA, and their results were quite different from those of MAC and Yaeger. I really think that video and the RAS47's issues have coalesced into a meme about the VSKA.

Makes a great wall hanger but I wouldn't shoot one

The age of cheap AKs is over. DO NOT EVER buy US-made guns manufactured by Century, specially their AKs.

Go to r/ak47 and read the buyer's guide.

I own a VSKA. It performs at least as well as my wasr-3 I used to own.
PSA makes decent budget AKs, as does Zastava. If you can splurge on them, go for them. If you can't, the VSKA will be fine.
All that said: try to figure out how old the VSKA is. The earliest runs of the rifles had some very bad QC and can be dangerous. They appear to have gotten better.

No. If you want a $600 AK either look for used WASRs or buy a PSA.
