Where are all the pilots speaking out about the drones? They are clearly airplanes.

Very kind of the aliens to abide by FAA red and green traffic beacons laws.
MicahBurke@reddit
Some are actually claiming the drones are designed to look like airplanes...
CoyoteDrunk28@reddit
From the beginning many of the reports (not all) we're about fixed wing "drones" that were smaller and quieter than airplanes, but larger than regular drones, but they sound like drones. This made me think either fixed with unmanned drones (which have been a thing) or small manned eVTOL with about a 6' wingspan. They also said the quadcopter type were also 6' wide and that sounds familiar https://www.twz.com/34662/faa-documents-offer-unprecedented-look-into-colorado-drone-mystery
Mind you, those were around ICBMs. And in this flap they have gone on several bases, including lately Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base in California
MicahBurke@reddit
None of the footage I’ve seen from the New Jersey flap shows anything but planes, helicopters in stars. Just today I saw a video of an actual drone hovering over someone’s house from California, but I don’t think that means anything.
CoyoteDrunk28@reddit
Yeah, there are tons of trash videos. It seems like the original 6 foot wide drones that couldn't be picked up by FLIR used the craze to make an exit.
😂 But speaking of weird shit in the sky that can't be picked up by FLIR, Teledyne is the biggest FLIR developer and customer, and they're also suspect of being the creators of black triangle UFO. It makes sense that the people who developed FLIR might know how to block the signature from being emitted
https://www.youtube.com/live/XX7QVD90f1o?si=_LJfhzJqvr5I5cFF
MicahBurke@reddit
From personal experience, I think some of the black triangle ufo claims were just planes flying in a triangle formation. I saw one in my college days, it freaked the heck out of me, this massive vast triangle shaped object in the sky with lights along the edges. It wasn't until I noticed I could see the stars "inside" the triangle that I realized I was looking at several planes in a triangle formation.
That doesn't account for the daylight sightings etc of course.
CoyoteDrunk28@reddit
I saw one in Phoenix in the 90s that was absolutely a triangle, and the inside was watery and gaseous like they were attempting to project an image of the sky above onto the bottom but it was really crappy. It was about a few hundred meters over my head so it wasn't far at all, the entire thing would of been similar to the size of a B2 but it was certainly a 🔺. I really don't expect people to believe me but I know what I saw. It was flying directly west in west Phoenix just north of the Estrella Mountains where the Phoenix Lights stopped on their 2nd appearance a few years later. People who witnessed the PL said they also were gaseous and watery. I've since seen some Ufologist with alleged government connections say that they do have a projection on the bottom, and that's exactly what the one I saw looked like
nanapancakethusiast@reddit
These people are literally filming departure traffic from Teterboro and cannot put 2 and 2 together. It’d be funny if it wasn’t a tragic reminder of how dumb the average person is.
gavroche1972@reddit
Why are you ridiculing people for thinking they are drones, when the pentagon keeps referring to them as drones. They even held a briefing today discussing these drones.
https://techcrunch.com/2024/12/11/pentagon-says-mystery-drones-over-new-jersey-are-not-us-military-not-likely-foreign/
Timely_Entrance_7931@reddit
The problem I think people on this forum are having is that they are filming airplanes. If there are drones, there simply has not been any visual proof of that. You can’t tell me something is a drone when I have first hand experience in the aviation world that I am looking at a commercial aircraft. To tell people that the videos are of drones when they are not is what people here are irritated by.
gavroche1972@reddit
Who is that? Which videos. There are a ton of videos, from a variety of sources, including news crews and police. People here watch a few videos that are clearly aircraft, and then stick their fingers in their ears and close their eyes and pretend all others don’t exist. The fact that people make such blanket statements exhibits their predisposition quite well.
Timely_Entrance_7931@reddit
Happy to see them if you have them.
gavroche1972@reddit
Troll somewhere else.
smakinelmo@reddit
They're right. They aren't foreign drones, or U.S. military. They're civilian aircraft on normal flight patterns.
Timely_Entrance_7931@reddit
Backed up with actual fact. Flight apps show these are aircraft. The people who claim they aren’t on the apps probably just downloaded the program 5 seconds after they saw these and have no idea what perception is. Yeah there aren’t any airplanes over your little blue dot on the screen because the thing you’re looking at is 10 miles away and 45 degrees off the horizon. Humans are idiots.
gavroche1972@reddit
The fact that you’re sitting here telling me the FBI and the Pentagon do not know the difference between a drone and a civilian aircraft on a normal flight pattern reminds me of why it’s pointless to get in conversations with a lot of people on Reddit.
torsten_dev@reddit
Pentagon only said they are aware of reports of drones. They did not confirm those reports to therefore be accurate.
They did however say whatever it was was not the US military and they do not believe it to be foreign either.
MicahBurke@reddit
The FBI in the Pentagon don’t know because they haven’t actually seen anything. All they have are the same stupid videos we have without location or time data. So their investigating because local law-enforcement has asked them to. They have the same info that we have, flight radar type data. But without collaborating information from the videos, they’re just lights in the sky.
N2DPSKY@reddit
This is precisely right. And the FBI is going to take a long time to study that so they don't make any mistakes and in about 3 or 4 weeks we're going to get a report that says they've never been able to confirm there were any drones. That the photos and videos show conventional aircraft or celestial objects. Maybe some idiot with a DJI phantom got spotted and pulled into this, but the vast majority are going to be planes helicopters, stars and planets.
To the UFO nuts, this will just be confirmation that the FBI is covering it all up. Haha
MicahBurke@reddit
The FBI and DHS said today:
We are supporting local law enforcement in New Jersey with numerous detection methods but have not corroborated any of the reported visual sightings with electronic detection. To the contrary, upon review of available imagery, it appears that many of the reported sightings are actually manned aircraft, operating lawfully. There are no reported or confirmed drone sightings in any restricted
N2DPSKY@reddit
Yep. Thanks. Saw that earlier and posted the same in a few places.
GIJoeVibin@reddit
It took the Pentagon 7 years after the videos were published (9 years after it was filmed) to figure out that the GOFAST object was not actually a low and fast object but a higher altitude slow object. This is in spite of numerous ordinary skeptics correctly determining the exact same thing, even correctly assessing the exact altitude.
The pentagon takes surprisingly long to figure out things.
smakinelmo@reddit
They do know. They never said they weren't. They are fucking with your heads. Or they didn't say anything because they are under the assumption yall know what an airplane is
gavroche1972@reddit
lol… maybe you should actually read what they have been saying. Especially before you call other people idiots.
torsten_dev@reddit
Watch the press conference. The reporter asked about drones. The spokesperson only used the word drones in so far as that she's aware of the reports of drones.
Basically the Pentagons statement was an "Not US military and not enemy action. Therefore a local police problem and not our concern fuck off" but less impolite.

werewulf35@reddit
'Better ability to communicate'. Hmmm. Maybe 'better access to open forums that don't moderate or care if they spread misinformation or stupid ideas?'. I feel like 'better ability' may be giving too much credit.

StaloItalo@reddit
That's what I saw! It was so weird. From the side looking directly at the wing, it looks like a helicopter and I thought it was because it was just hovering there. Then it just went straight up and started turning to move. It moved above my head when I saw it looked like a plane. But they are definitely tech we aren't using... A plane was levitating basically.
slyskyflyby@reddit
Yeah, not just "some." Like, the entire community is starting to say they are alien drones trying to mimic human made aircraft and that's why their lights "look similar but not exactly like human made aircraft."
These people think that every airplane legally has to have the exact same light configuration and have no concept that just about every airplane has different configurations. One of the first videos I saw that sparked a lot of drone talk on r/interdimensionalNHI was a video of a C-17 landing at McGuire with its green formation lights and nacelle lights on and people were flipping their shit talking about how there's no human made aircraft with lighting like that so it has to be alien drones using some sort of AI technology to try to mimic our aircraft lights but getting it just a little wrong like AI often does.
FoxFyer@reddit
Our society really has taken a profoundly enormous stupid pill in the last ten years.
FWIW it's the same thing on the weather side, where people with no curiosity about the natural world see a kind of cloud or weather phenomenon that is well known and generally understood, but that they personally haven't seen before, and pop up like the secret weather machine made this.
werewulf35@reddit
Just relaying my own experience and shock here.... Recently had numerous interactions on the Next door Neighbor app for North county San Diego where dozens of people were explaining chemtrails and cloud seeding and the weather modifications done by HAARP. Just because of contrails persisting due to high humidity and cold temperatures at altitude. And everyone saying 'Go read GeoengineeringWatch.org! It's all there!'
I was dumbfounded at the level of conspiracy theorists in North County San Diego, when California is supposed to be liberal and forward thinking, etc.

I believe they were always there (the stupid idiots, not the UFOs/drones/space ships), but social media has enabled their voices to be heard. Ergo, it seems like humanity is drowning in a sea of stupidity, but I suspect we really have been this dumb all along.
FoxFyer@reddit
To be clear, I don't think all the people reporting this are necessarily idiots - not categorically. I think that for the most part they are just gullible and have allowed themselves to be swept up in a popular mania, and I think that's been enabled by the "Goosebumpsification" of public thought and discussion, where society has been conditioned to immediately leap to the fantastical and unserious as first-tier explanations for things.
8_guy@reddit
The condescension isn't necessary, there are a lot of people who are smarter and more qualified than you who are taking the topic of UAP seriously. This specific drone flap is getting tied into the topic and speculated about because of the continuing unexplained origin and the bizarre nature of what's happening.
If you were more informed about the UAP topic in general you'd have an understanding of why the possibility of this drone flap being tied in is considered plausible to some degree or another.
FoxFyer@reddit
This specific drone flap is getting tied into the topic because the YouTube channels that these folks get their thinking-instructions from have been telling them these things that look like, fly like, and are even conspicuously lit like small aircraft or large quadcopters, are actually alien spaceships merely pretending to be normal airplanes, and these folks are sadly so emotionally invested in the story of the US getting invaded by alien spaceships being true that they have come to uncritically accept any suggestion that is compatible with it, no matter how farcical.
8_guy@reddit
You're talking about emotionally invested but read your comment and it doesn't exactly come across as detached. Again, the reason speculation is happening is because this has gone on at scale, with no really plausible scenarios for this happening in the way it has, over a period of weeks.
Given the size and loiter time of the drones it essentially has to be military or military-adjacent (IE major defense contractor) for it to be a prosaic event, but we get denials from the military that they know what it is (or that it's adversary technology), the FBI and local law enforcement are telling people they're concerned/clueless and to send in tips, and no one has really made any independent progress into figuring out what's going on.
Some small portion of military and intelligence knows what's happening and they really don't want to tell to the point that they're willing to make themselves and the rest of the government look incompetent. If you have some good theories of your own on what this could be I'm all ears, but try to really think it through.
revcor@reddit
Is this some drone-specific term or just a peculiar word choice?
Also you keep saying "drone flap" as if it were a normal phrase that you can just use without needing to explain it first... wtf is a drone flap
8_guy@reddit
Okay I'm not sure what point you think you're making here, that's obvious and everyone knows. This event is extremely atypical for reasons you might not understand.
If there were plausible explanations where those types of concerns could be the reason for things playing out like this, it wouldn't be such a topic of interest.
8_guy@reddit
Prosaic in its definition as "commonplace" is used when discussing the UAP topic to mean something with a "conventional" explanation for lack of a better word. Basically something that's understood within our current consensus on reality.
Flap meaning essentially a state of agitation or panic caused in the general public. No-one's really panicking over this just being thorough with definition. Flap in this sense isn't a word specific to this topic, there have been plenty of other things referred to as "X flaps" in the past. That being said there have been [previous occasions of similar things happening](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019%E2%80%9320_Colorado_drone_sightings#:~:text=Observations%20of%20mysterious%20drones%20spotted,six%20feet%20(1.8%20m) happening with unidentified drones and the same drone flap terminology was used to describe it.
Historically one of the major occurrences referred to as a flap was UFO related over DC

BriefCollar4@reddit
Wait, people are morons!? Well, damn!!!
2407s4life@reddit
You can't prove or disprove anything to true believers. Any evidence that comes up that contradicts their belief is seen as lies, cover ups and conspiracy.
hamhockman@reddit
"the government always lies except this one time when the specific linguistics suggest it's aliens"
2407s4life@reddit
It doesn't matter whether the government is lying are not to people who have already reached their conclusions.
I do believe there are unexplained phenomena out there, and likely life in other parts of the world. But, there hasn't been compelling proof that intelligent extraterrestrials have visited early. And such an extraordinary claim would indeed require extraordinary evidence.
Also, some of the modern UFO beliefs have been encouraged by the US government. When Paul Bennewitz reported that he had received alien transmissions and seen strange lights in the sky near Kirkland AFB, rather than the USAF tell him they were the source of the sightings, they told him to keep looking into. They went so far as to have officers stop by his house unannounced dressed in plain suits calling themselves "men in black" and giving him gibberish software and leaving props in the desert for him to find. All because it was more convenient to have him chase aliens than have him disclose USAF operations.
Saritiel@reddit
The other problem is that the conspiracies are often so out there that it's impossible to "prove" them wrong.
Like, if I were to tell you apples aren't real and are actually bioengineered chemical weapons used to spread chemicals that make you susceptible to mind control to the public. How would you "prove" that wrong?
You can't really. The burden of proof should be on me. But I'll just spout some nonsense about some loosely imagined correlation between consumption of apples and whatever the hell social issue.
Quiet-Shaman@reddit

it’s not like aliens that react to water as a poison would use advanced technology to travel vast distances to a planet mostly covered with poison and then run around naked terrifying the natives for a week until they realized their mistake too late?
(oh, and… SPOILER! 😂 )
Bergasms@reddit
Lol that movie, so terribly bad its good
8_guy@reddit
I can answer that, the speculation is that there's a specific reason for imitating drones tied to the current time.
One example of something like that would be, they're attracting attention to the general topic of "odd things happening in the sky" slowly, in a way that doesn't instantly confirm to the general public that something important is going on. In a case where our government has been involved in a suppression of the topic, it would be a signal to them that eventually disclosure would happen voluntarily or not.
The general public is already accustomed to drones so a story like this will end up basically being a curiosity, as it has.
Also, there are cases throughout the history of UFO/UAP being a phenomena where craft seem to be imitating something normal before displaying anomalous characteristics. In the majority of cases though, they actually seem to be purposefully showing themselves to individuals or small groups.
monsantobreath@reddit
Wow.
I'm persuaded you have no idea what you're talking about.
8_guy@reddit
That's really good for you buddy, I hope you can be persuaded to understand things better in the future
Interlinked2049@reddit
Thankyou for describing this to people who are too ignorant and arrogant to actually look this info up and do the research.
Their approach to this is one of ridicule instead of actual inquisitiveness. They wouldn’t know about the work of Jacques Vallee or Gary Nolan or Diana Pasulka or Lue Elizondo. It saddens me that these people call themselves people of science yet won’t actually look at the data.
8_guy@reddit
Yeah it's kinda sad, it does act as a pretty good test for how someone else thinks though (how they respond to the topic in general). Not that they have to be all in believers, but you can tell who has the emotional reactions and fixed preconceptions, and who's willing to entertain ideas because they know at some level that there are things they're wrong about or don't understand.
It shows you a lot about the role institutions and social consensus play in shaping our worldview/reality and how strongly engrained they can be even in otherwise intelligent people.
Ok-Entrepreneur7324@reddit
Because, to any species that advanced, it's like us literally going back to the stone age or medieval periods. Some ancient structures can't even be explained in how they were made given the size of the stones, and the arrangement, including the pyramids of Giza.
monsantobreath@reddit
That's ridiculous. You know damn well if we wanted to we could make an outward mimic of a pyramid or some ancient vessel.

This. All were aircraft some even obviously commercial. We live under an approach corridor for Newark Airport and literally 15 miles directly under the straight in approach for runway 5 at MMU - not to mention about a mile away from SMQ airport where NJSP helicopter is based. As an aviation freak who used to fly (when I could afford) my eyes are always trained skyward. They are planes and helicopters.

Does this sub not respect commander fravor and the tic tac incident as reported by 60 minutes? He’s a navy top gun guy.
DinoZambie@reddit (OP)
This isnt about credible UAP reports from military personnel. The footage in question here isnt coming from FLIR cameras. These are average people in New Jersey and other parts of USA and even Canada that are filming commercial airliner jets and helicopters and claiming they are drones. Its not even in the same ballpark.
Boyilltelluwut@reddit
Idk I mean the cops, the homeland security people, the coastguard, the pentagon, congresspeople who are talking to coastguard etc, all saying this is a thing happening.
DinoZambie@reddit (OP)
I see nothing happening but people filming jets and helicopters. I've confirmed many of them on flightradar24 when people give the location and time. Just the other night someone posted a video of a "drone" sighting which looked like a plane dropping flares. Sure enough i go look it up and its a KC-135 Stratotanker.
What I think is happening is people are making reports about drones and there is no way for the agencies to follow up on it. So they say "We dont know". Because how can they know without being there in the moment? All their left with are a mountain of delusional peoples reports and no idea how to handle it.
Boyilltelluwut@reddit

So Robert Wheeler, head of the FBI Critical Incident Response Group, just has his head up his ass? He’s delusional? Dude there is something going on. If you don’t see that, you are the delusional one.
DinoZambie@reddit (OP)
What "Drones" is he speaking of? I haven't seen any drones at all. All ive seen from people are commercial airliners and helicopters. And its painfully obvious that they're commercial jets and helicopters.
SHOW ME THE DRONES.
N2DPSKY@reddit
Exactly. The FBI has not said publicly that they've been able to piece together any evidence that shows any of the videos provided have shown an actual drone. Right now they're just investigating reports of them. They have it confirmed anything.
darkenthedoorway@reddit
They have confirmed they arent our military and they aren't a foreign adversary like china. They are unable to follow the drones to their landing. The fact that some scared people are filming everything flying is causing you to think there is nothing unusual here.
N2DPSKY@reddit
I think somebody may have overreacted to a hobby drone or a lidar survey plane freaked someone out in November. All the rest? Well, I've seen nothing to support any of it. Time will tell, but if I was a betting man..... Until I see a night vision or FLIR image that shows a drone instead of an airplane, Helicopter, Mars, Venus, Sirius or the belt of Orion, it all looks like BS. And if there was something, it's been so muddled by bad reports from the stupid, liars and attention seekers, we may never know.
darkenthedoorway@reddit
I see all the stupidity and misidentification as well. It has confused many people, and the gov response has not helped. But we dont know who these belong to, and that has to be revealed.
N2DPSKY@reddit
Well, so far I can't accept the premise, which is that there are things to be revealed. There may be, there may not. I've not seen any evidence that proves there are. I think that is the key problem with the Govt response. They haven't been able to verify it.
darkenthedoorway@reddit
But the government is admitting that, and telling the truth. They cant identify some 100 sightings out of 5000 tips. Your logic is throwing out the baby with the bath.
N2DPSKY@reddit
You are presuming. That's not what they said at all. They said only 100 tips were deemed worthy of investigating, but we don't know what those tips contained or what form they were in.
Boyilltelluwut@reddit
The fbi is absolutely saying they don’t know what they are. It’s right there in the clip from the hearing.
N2DPSKY@reddit
They're referring to the reports of the drones. The FBI has not confirmed they've seen one of these drones..... which is why they wouldn't know what they are.
Boyilltelluwut@reddit
Two Republican Jersey Shore-area congressmen, U.S. Reps. Chris Smith and Jeff Van Drew, have called on the military to shoot down the drones.
Smith said a Coast Guard commanding officer briefed him on an incident over the weekend in which a dozen drones followed a motorized Coast Guard lifeboat “in close pursuit” near Barnegat Light and Island Beach State Park in Ocean County.
Coast Guard Lt. Luke Pinneo told The Associated Press Wednesday “that multiple low-altitude aircraft were observed in vicinity of one of our vessels near Island Beach State Park.”

N2DPSKY@reddit
This is going to be really fun to see how this plays out. There are drones everywhere yet no one can find them. There are drones flying in neighborhoods and off the ocean and near airports. When the report comes back, we'll come back and revisit this.
I will tell you this. If I were going to send a drone out on a mission to get some secret information on a military site or tracking military vessels, the first thing I'm going to do is to turn off the lights.
I was in the US Army and I've served in combat and I understand the use of light discipline in tactical situations. I sure had less lights on my Humvee during the main offensive in Desert Storm than these drones do. I was in blackout drive driving with night vision. Too bad these drones aren't that smart.
SuperDuperPositive@reddit
The Pentagon and the White House disagree with you. They've said these aren't airplanes, and they don't know what they are or who they belong to.
DinoZambie@reddit (OP)
The white house and the house national security committee have only mentioned small car sized drones... Not commerical airplanes which is all ive ever seen in videos.
There is a clear disconnected between evidence of what the whitehouse is speaking of what what the average citizen thinks theyre seeing.
The people are stupid, quite frankly. Theyre outside every night filming commercial airliners. Just look at r/UFOs. I've yet to see anything that looks like a small car sized drone. Not one god damned video or photo.
SuperDuperPositive@reddit
No, where the disconnect lies is between your comment and reality. Certainly some airplanes are being misidentified as UAP, but not all. The dogmatic denialism of this sub just isn't accurate to what's actually happening.
N2DPSKY@reddit
I haven't seen a single video that shows a drone. Everyone I've seen is a misidentified plane, helicopter or out of focus celestial object. And I have looked hard.
DinoZambie@reddit (OP)
I can go into r/UFOs right now and take a look at every video being uploaded right now and identify it as being a plane or helicopter due its shape, lights, movement. IF they give me their location and time, i can pinpoint it to a flight number. Believe me, i've done it so many times its tiring. Not once have i come across a case where the person claimed it was a drone and it didn't fit as being a commercial airliner or helicopter.
SuperDuperPositive@reddit
If you can do that then I wonder why the Pentagon can't?
DinoZambie@reddit (OP)
Im sure they have. Im sure they know that people are recording airplanes, however they cant give an answer for every single instance in a press briefing . There very well may be some instances of actual drones, but as far as i can see, most people are seeing normal aircraft. Its kind of a situation of not throwing the baby out with the bath water. So they just say "We dont know"
MicahBurke@reddit
The ones coming in from FLIR cameras are mostly passenger planes as well.
DinoZambie@reddit (OP)
Airliners have hot exhaust trails that are picked up by flir. It would be obvious if that were the case.
MicahBurke@reddit
If you’re talking about the pyramid star FLIR video watch Mick West’s debunk of it
DinoZambie@reddit (OP)
I've seen it before. Does he mention something about exhaust in the video that Ive forgotton?
N2DPSKY@reddit
I don't think it's a matter of respecting Fravor or not. People are capable of making mistakes. I think he believes what he has stated publicly. But I've seen him in an interview where he talks about how the Navy teaches them to not trust their eyesight in favor of their instruments because your eyesight can be unreliable and then go on to say that he's 99.9% sure of what he saw, which was a featureless 40 ft long at an unknown distance and nothing to compare it to. That seems ripe for error.
Boyilltelluwut@reddit
I mean the incident was picked up by instruments. That’s part of the reporting. The military upgraded their radar and started seeing these things. Both planes and the aircraft carrier.
N2DPSKY@reddit
Look at the Mick West interview with Brian Burke, who is also an F/A-18 familiar with the types of glitches and anomalies that occur with those systems. It was pretty fascinating listening to him. He personally knows Cmdr Fravor and has nothing but good things to say about the man but also acknowledges some of the system limitations. He really sheds a lot of light on the subject.

sandhillfarmer@reddit
I lived through the great northeastern Colorado drone scare of Christmas 2019. It's a rural area, so the national attention wasn't intense, but boy was it wild on the ground.
The way people are acting now is exactly the way they acted then. Planes flying into Denver fly over regularly, and I can't tell you how many times I heard, "Planes don't have green and red lights!"
A lot of it came down to people having never looked up in the night sky before. For instance, people noticed that stars shimmer for the first time. They'd say, "Look! There's a drone hovering over that house!" I would point out that it was a star and try to explain how light travels through the atmosphere, and I shit you not, someone once said to me, "Stars don't twinkle like that." It's in the goddamned song!
People that I've known for years would chase down a stationary red-blinking drone only to lose it right when they got to the big radio antenna tower and wonder where in the hell the drone went.
Unfortunately I became kind of a pariah as "the local skeptic," which is a lame place to be in because everybody who wants to believe decides you're simply dismissing it out of hand, and they don't listen at all to the rationality. Let alone questioning why this influx of drones sometimes hovered stationary over houses and sometimes flew in fast grid patterns and sometimes flew slowly overhead flashing green and red lights. They wouldn't even look at pictures of planes on the internet. It was maddening. People just wanted the intrigue.
So for the past few years, I've been telling people during times of calm to go look up at the night sky. See what it looks like when a star is close to the horizon and shimmering colors. Go look at Pleiades. Watch planes flying overhead. See how many shooting stars you can see every night in the country and count how many different colors you see. Ultimately you'll never pull people out of the belief-hole once they're in it and once a panic has begun. The only way is to make the people you're close to familiar with stuff so that the first time they see it, they don't anchor on some fanatical explanation.

Timely_Entrance_7931@reddit
The people who believe they are drones are way too stupid to ever believe experts who can identify each and every one as an airplane. Timely_Entrance_7931@reddit
Ok I think I have found out what it is. Now there are a lot of questions that I have that you probably don’t have answers to since I don’t think you were the OP of that video. Look up a tethered aerostat. It’s a type of blimp that is tethered to a ground station and used for various applications. Verizon and AT&T actually use them to elevate cellular antennae when there is a large scale outage in an area to help get cell coverage back to an area after a natural disaster. The military also has them stationed in strategic areas especially near coasts (which Epping NH is near) to detect threats coming in from the ocean. There are two located on Cudjoe Key in the Florida Keys. You can research that place as well. In this video, it appears it is facing away from the person taking the video. The little thing sticking out of the bottom left side is a stabilization fin. You can’t see the other two because they blend in to the main body of the aerostat but theres another one at a 45 degree angle out the right side and one going directly up. The lighting matches that of other aerostats that have been filmed. Depending on the height of the aerostat and how much cable is out, the cable itself will sometimes be lit up with flashing lights so airplanes don’t fly under the blimp and hit the cable. This happened to the very aerostats in the Florida Keys a long time ago. Hope this helps!!
DinoZambie@reddit (OP)
The lights are bothering me tho. When I look up pics of the aerostat blimp, i dont see any obvious strobe lights on it.
Timely_Entrance_7931@reddit
They have to have beacons on them above 180 feet above ground. Check out this link. It’s an aviation sectional chart for Epping NH. If you look just south of Epping, you will see blue text that has numbers and says Balloon. That shows that this aerostat is a permanent fixture and is even marked on charts that it is 1000 feet above the ground. https://skyvector.com/?ll=42.983679084814675,-71.11000441827368&chart=301&zoom=1
DinoZambie@reddit (OP)
Thats fine, I understand there is a requirement. Im not concerned that it has lights. Im just looking at Aerostat balloons and I cant see them on the structure. In the video, the driver is below the balloon. I dont know what the angle of elevation would be, but Im going to guess 45 degrees since he saw it out of his sunroof for a moment. So, if there were lights on the top of the balloon (seems like a good place) then at his vantage point he wouldn't be able to see the top of the balloon. So that would leave me to believe its on the side.
https://live.staticflickr.com/5582/15175839851_ef940736f4_b.jpg
I just trying to see where those lights would be on an aerostat that would make the object in the video make more sense to me.

Ok last thing. Only because I love researching stuff like this. The part when he opens the sunroof, he is parked next to Village Market at 6 Danville Rd, Fremont, NH. He is looking northeast from that intersection. I found that using google maps and just searching the area. Once I found that spot I zoomed out and looked northeast. Guess what I found!? An Altaeros facility with the dang blimp sitting on the ground in the image! I love when that happens. The Altaeros site is located at 88 Iron Horse Dr, Fremont, NH. I enjoyed this investigation waaay too much!

It looks like the manufacturer of the aerostat is Altaeros. One of the pictures on their website show the blimp in low light and it appears there are lights on the side with wiring running up the side of the blimp. I am very confident this is what we are looking at.

Timely_Entrance_7931@reddit
Do a quick google search of “aerostat Epping nh” those search results are a nail in the coffin on this one! Case closed. I’m telling you, so many of these things can be explained if people with the knowledge of them is able to share it.
DinoZambie@reddit (OP)
Yea, that seems pretty plausible. Thanks for that!
Timely_Entrance_7931@reddit
Now that is finally something that doesn’t look like an airliner!!! The timeframe is before this whole craze, but definitely very interesting. The video doesn’t appear to be doctored. You would be surprised how many are. The movement matches the camera shake perfectly to the naked eye. There are aircraft in the vicinity during that timeframe that I have found on ADSB exchange playback. There is a Cessna 172 orbiting around that town. But that didn’t look like a Cessna. I’ll be continuing to look into it. But if they showed this on the news I think you would have a lot more people believing them.
DinoZambie@reddit (OP)
If you go to r/UFOs every day people are uploading videos of airplanes and helicopters in the sky thinking they are drones. Its even got to the point that these videos are being aired on national news. People have lost their damn minds.
Its only a matter of time until people start shooting at airliners because they think its a drone.
Where are all the pilots and aviation experts? What the hell is going in here?
churningaccount@reddit
They're already aiming high-powered laser pointers at them.
I made a few comments in that sub on a popular post where that was happening telling people never to point a laser at an object in the sky, even if they didn't think there was a human in it.
Got downvoted to hell and my comments removed...
But the replies before that indicated a general mistrust of experts. A lot of "how could a laser pointer possibly cause blindness from so far away? The beam must be so wide by then." and "I looked into a laster pointer as a kid and am just fine."
So I doubt any pilots being interviewed on the media will be taken seriously. We are in an era of people believing and prioritizing their own "lived experience" over what anyone else with credentials says.

Reasonable folks are getting drowned out by the conspiracy crowd. It's my view that folks simply aren't used to noticing or watching things in the sky, especially at night. So anything in the sky is a drone/ufo/uap. I recently saw someone post a lengthy video of a "hovering drone" - it was Venus, they even zoomed in and claimed the out of focus dot was shimmering, etc.
MyDogOper8sBetrThanU@reddit
Those subs are ridiculous, but people are seeing something beyond “it’s an airplane” if the pentagon and homeland security are giving pressers on the situation. Hell they even stated the drones are about the size of an SUV and not hobbiest.

darkenthedoorway@reddit
The fact that there is no ID is anomalous in itself.

What do you mean "no ID"? It's not like anyone from the govt can look at a cell phone video of a distant plane and tell you exactly what plane it is.
darkenthedoorway@reddit
Aircraft have flight plans and sometimes transponders. They are in contact with the tower. They have heat signatures. The drones do not.

Granted, as you would expect from a UFO reddit, however you have touched on my point. People are filming airliners thinking they're drones. The news has obviously picked up on this. Sufficient-Hold-2053@reddit
There’s something going on behind the UFO thing, you can’t ignore the geopolitical situation where have multiple active wars where drones are big part of the battlefield, and some of the people worried about drones are concerned they might be Russian or Chinese. We also have multiple countries running active social media disinformation campaigns in the U.S. that have a history of amplifying panics. There's something in our DNA that creates the desire to be "in the know." To be a member of the small group of people who are aware of something happening in a larger group of people who are unaware. And when you're in that small group that knows something it causes humans to just go ape shit crazy about it, like an almost euphoric experience every time they get to tell someone about something they know that the other person doesn't know, like they are exposing a truth... this desire has lead to a lot of people killing themselves for a false profit or following people who say the world is going to end in ~~2000~~ ~~2012~~ ~~2020~~ 2025? Isn't it interesting that none of the so-called whistleblowers came forward with any shred of evidence? It's all 'cool story bro'-tier stuff that get regurgitated in videos, podcasts, books (basically anything that can be sold to the UFO crowd).
DinoZambie@reddit (OP)
Commander Fravor testified in front of congress regarding his video. You have that. You also have David Grusch who gave his testimony and he couldn't even get a scif cleared by DoD... why not? The intelligence comittee and the DoD, Pentagon, are constantly putting up road blocks preventing people from testifying, even going as far as threatening people with prison.
Lets get real here. The ONLY people that would ever have a shot at being credible in the eyes of the public are the men and women of the armed forces and government agencies. What a lot of people don't seem to understand is that even when talking about the UAP/UFO subject, they have to discuss sensitive information and projects that they're not allowed to disclose to people without a security clearance, such as the people in congress and the senate. The pentagon has to clear a lot of things they want to talk about in public settings. The pentagon isnt going to tell Grusch not to talk about aliens, because that would be confirmation in the negative. So they let him talk about stuff that cant be confirmed. They will however tell him not to disclose names, projects, methods, departments, etc. If he talks about it anyways, hes at risk of being prosecuted under the espionage act like Edward Snowdon.
The things that are kept secret regarding UAP are things congress should already know about, but the higher powers in the government are preventing them from knowing about it. The point of having the congressional hearings is to give congress the information they need to start chipping away at the wall of secrecy while at the same time abiding by the laws that restrict them.
boywithleica@reddit
I'm always happy to discuss these things with level-headed people and you seem to be one of those, so I'll gladly take the time. About Fravor - I believe that he is earnest in what he is saying. I do think that he is genuinely convinced he saw something unexplainable, so I hold him in higher regards than the rest of the UFO influencer crowd, who are very clearly in it to make some good cash.
However - pilots are just as prone to being misled by (optical) illusions as the rest of us. They are not an infallible source of information. In fact, in aviation history many lives were lost because pilots flew their planes into terrain because they trusted their senses more than their instruments/the data. And the fact of the matter is that we do not have data/footage from Fravor's plane. We do have video from a third-party - another jet that was flying nearby. This footage has been thoroughly analyzed (e.g. here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1di0XIa9RQ) and can be explained as mundane, so it is not direct corroboration of Fravor's claims.
Also please consider that David Fravor has been interested in UFOs since before the Nimitz incident in 2004 - in fact he recalled an instance during his JRE interview, in which he faked a UFO sighting, describing a prank he played by flying over a group of campers and engaging his afterburner to create dramatic effects, making it appear as though they were witnessing a UFO. Interesting context imo.
Grusch is a whole different can of worms. He is completely dubious in my book, having walked in woo-woo UFO circles for a long time now (Puthoff, Elizondo, and the like). He has largely been fed lies and bogus documents behind the scenes to facilitate this whole whistleblower-hearing story. Honestly, I feel for the guy as I think he is being used by charlatans to further their course.

It sounds like you’re running into a mix of the Dunning-Kruger effect (people with limited knowledge overestimating their understanding) and belief perseverance (sticking to their beliefs no matter the evidence). Add in some confirmation bias (only seeing what supports their ideas) and conspiracy thinking (“government shill”), and it makes productive conversation almost impossible. Unfortunately, once people are emotionally invested in their beliefs, they usually aren’t open to logical explanations.

As an amateur astronomer, I've spent a fair amount of time trying to convince people that what they're seeing are scintillating stars that are out of focus, not orbs. They can't believe Sirius changes colors and they'll tell you Mars spins so it's not a planet.

It’s really weird seeing the hysteria gain traction. Over in r/NYC, in response to the local drone coverage, someone posted “this is why we need the 2nd amendment”. People are going to start taking (more)shots at airliners soon. Welcome to Earth, I guess.
FoxFyer@reddit
A few days ago in some thread somewhere I suggested shooting the drones down, as what I thought was an obvious joke. That was before I understood the extent to which people are (or proclaim to be) seriously, irrationally panicked about the situation, so in retrospect that was a bad idea and I feel terrible.

Bro. Airline pilot here. I get someone coming into my flight deck like once a month saying “So can you really see the curvature?” with a smirk and a wink, and when I tell em that when we’re light and go above FL380 yeah, we kinda can, they’re completely unconfined. So then I show them my Heads Up Display and explain that it has an artificial horizon which coincides with the actual horizon on or near the ground (I even let them look through it), and then I tell them at high altitudes it is well above the visible horizon, and that aircraft which are lower than us appear to be above the visible horizon until only a few miles away…and the looks I get are very similar to the ones my dog makes when I try to get him to watch TV. So then I finally say “naw, it’s flat, the lizard people don’t pay me enough to live a lie” and they leave my flight deck (finally!) in triumph.
I’m tired, boss.

I think it would be simply solved if the government could conduct an investigation and let us know where the “drones” over NJ have been coming from. If they can’t do that then people will continue to let their minds go wild with ideas - and then yes, I’ve seen folks in r/aliens and r/ufo talking about shooting these down, albeit jokingly. Would hate for that sentiment to develop into action.
I would ask that the feds step up asap - let us know what these are. Surely they know.
MicahBurke@reddit
But how do you investigate when there’s nothing to see. When the FBI or whomever it goes out there to look they’re gonna see normal air traffic they’re not gonna see any drones. Because there aren’t any. So all they have are the same stupid videos we do
monroeshton@reddit
Right - but the Pentagon has acknowledged that the “drones” exist, and that they don’t know what they are. Also there’s a very long hearing that I watched where other agencies also acknowledge they exist and that they don’t know what they are. They could have said “they’re planes” and it would be the end of it. But they didn’t.
I’m all for an invasion, beam me up.
MicahBurke@reddit
No they didn't. They said that whatever the lights are, they're not our drones. We all agree the objects exist, but every video I've (arguably WE'VE) seen has been either a commercial plane, private plane, helicopter or planet.

Natural selection, the process by which the strongest, the smartest, the fastest, reproduced in greater numbers than the rest, a process which had once favored the noblest traits of man, now began to favor different traits. Most science fiction of the day predicted a future that was more civilized and more intelligent. But as time went on, things seemed to be heading in the opposite direction. A dumbing down. I am a NJ resident, living not far from the Yardley beacon. We are accustomed to seeing a steady stream of commercial airplanes flying over our house in a fairly predictable pattern, hearing and seeing stunt pilots practice, observing semi regular helicopters that seem to be commuters, and a large number of random private planes flying overhead in different directions and at different altitudes. Most, but not all, can be easily identified ( the helicopters are rarely track able). These drones are real and distinct from normal aviation traffic. I can assure you they are real. I do not generally traffic jn conspiracy theories, and tend to look to original reliable sources for information. i am also quite confident that the number and size of these drones is being over stated. I have however personally seen them flying over head. This is not entirely made up.. What is most puzzling and concerning is not the existence of these drones, it is the near silence from every government official. What little they say is a parroted script from which they are obviously reading. It is clear to me that we as a country are ill-equipped to respond to this "threat". While I am not fearful, I hope this becomes a learning experience, and we get our act together before it is too late. This a wake up call
notaredditer13@reddit
Do you have any evidence we can look at or do we just have to take your word for it.
Worried-Necessary501@reddit
That is your decision. I did not try to take photos, but did provide context for my statement. And I was merely asking this sub to consider that there could be some actual drones out there mixed with the planes being reported as drones.
notaredditer13@reddit
You didn't even try to describe them so given that almost all of what I've seen in the news and online is obviously normal aircraft I have no choice as a rational human but to decline.
egohavoc@reddit
I believe you and after reading through the comments here this community is just as short-sighted as the hardcore believers honestly. The coast guard said they encountered these drones, one of the agencies pursued a drone, but stopped because they felt “unsafe”. But that’s apparently not enough evidence because “there are no drones”.
As a fellow aviation nerd and fan of logic and reason, it’s disappointing to see the discourse here get completely shutdown at even the idea of there being something we don’t understand yet. I guess it’s natural to have hardline non-believers if you’re going to have the true believers crowd.
I was in school when 9/11 happened and I distinctly remember trying to tell my tech teacher that the WTC and the Pentagon were attacked, he completely dismissed me and wouldn’t turn on the news in the classroom, said that was impossible and that would never happen. This is what the majority of the people here remind me of.
I’ll get downvoted but I don’t give a fuck. Anyways, take care and have a nice day

Note: non-relevant military personnel aren't necessarily any more reliable than other laypeople.
No, skepticism is the default/scientific/correct positions. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. No quality evidence rightly causes scientifically minded people to not move off the default conclusion that nothing is happening.
Heck, even if there are 10 "real" incidents mixed in, it still doesn't change the fact that there's a mass-hysteria event happening. That's what the evidence we have clearly tells us.
N2DPSKY@reddit
So let me ask this since the reporting has been so wildly off and provides little detail.
Can you describe what you've seen? Distance to them, lighting, altitude, sound, flight path?
In northern NJ someone had the ads-b track for a Piper Navajo aircraft doing Lidar Surveys. There are drones that survey with lidar that would look pretty weird, but I don't believe they're autonomous. They're piloted, but can cover several square miles per flight from what I've read.

There is a huge disconnect between what the government is talking about and what people are seeing (what they think they see)

Maybe there are a few isolated incidences of actual drones, maybe.. I havent seen any photos or videos of this. If you have them, show me. Show me 6 foot drones.
What people have been filming over the past week have all been airplanes and helicopters and people think they're the drones. This is what is spiking the "drone reports". Its a hysteria. Don't you get it? In that news clip you sent all the videos they showed were commercial aircraft.
Miserable_Meeting_26@reddit
Because they “go dark” when we try to view them. The answers to all of your questions have literally been answered by government officials.
Both things can be true, that people are filming planes, not drones, and also that there are drones in the skies we are being lied to about.
DinoZambie@reddit (OP)
Yea, ive seen videos of people who film planes and because the plane is turning the landing lights are no longer visible and it appears to "go dark". I've also seen videos of people claiming to see a drone being chased and the drone "goes dark" but in reality it was just an internal reflection in the window and when they panned over to look through a different pane of glass it disappeared because the geometry of the glass was different.
Theres always a logical explanation. The government isn't always lying to you. Not everything is a conspiracy.
Miserable_Meeting_26@reddit
Why are you completely ignoring what the state officials are saying?
What do you think they are saying?
DinoZambie@reddit (OP)
Im not ignoring it at all. I just watched the video you posted from start to finish.
This senator says hes seen them, like everyone else is saying theyve seen them. Thats all i hear is that people are seeing them everwhere and every night. That theyre not airplanes.
However, when it comes to the actual evidence, that's not whats coming out. All the evidence about "Drones" is actually commercial aircraft. I believe John Kirby when he says most of the reports are manned aircraft operating lawfully, because that's all I've seen so far coming out of this whole situation. Show me the drones. Where is the drone footage?
The senator is relaying reports from average citizens. And quite frankly, those reports cannot be taken at face value because obviously the public is having a very hard time in correctly identifying commercial aircraft even when its up close and you can see the wings and tail and navigation lights and even fuselage paint colors as seen in my screen capture.
Because of what I just stated, I don't trust the senators judgment on being able to identify lights in the sky. Show me footage of actual drones.
Miserable_Meeting_26@reddit
The senators have met with DoD and have confirmed they know about the drones and are investigating. Kirby literally just said they still don’t know what they are. You buy that?
If all you’re saying is that none of the videos have been actual drones, then fine.
But I genuinely find it curious that now every single government official involved, including Kirby, has acknowledged these drones are real and being investigated, yet you’re sitting here saying they’re all planes.
SOMETHING is happening. The government has that. What are YOU saying?
DinoZambie@reddit (OP)
The government doesn't have any evidence of drones and they're not going discount the public when they haven't seen all the data. So when they say there are drones, theyre really going off of public reports rather than any evidence they have themselves. Kirby said it himself that they don't have any government produced evidence of the drones.
Thats not to say there wasn't an initial report of drones over military bases some time a few weeks ago.. That's what started this whole thing to begin with and since then its been nothing but commerical aircraft.
Miserable_Meeting_26@reddit
Why wouldn’t they just say those are planes and there’s nothing to worry about?
DinoZambie@reddit (OP)
They haven't seen all the data. Unless you want them to go case by case and say "this a plane, this a plane, this is a helicopter". He would be up there for weeks.
He did say that many of the reports are manned aircraft. He didnt say all of them are because they haven't seen all the data yet. The investigation is still ongoing. Just because there is an investigation doesn't mean there are actually drones.
Miserable_Meeting_26@reddit

DinoZambie@reddit (OP)
I'm not discounting that there could be actual cases of drones. I just haven't seen any evidence of it so far. Just because there is 1 or 2 cases of actual drone sightings does not mean that most of the "drone" sightings are legitimate. I honestly cant comprehend how people think a commercial airliner is a drone. And I wont entertain any ideas of drones pretending to be commercial aircraft. This is where the delusion is born.

Its a little washed out because the red and green position lights are only supposed to be visible from the front and side. But because the wing tip navigation lights are on you cant see them until the plane flies over head. The rear white portion is shining as well so it washes it out. I can put the image in photo editing software and sample the light. One def has red, while the other is more in the yellow hue, but still towards the green. Its a plane.

I watched that whole briefing with John Kirby you just posted.
Everything he said makes sense to be.
Forgive my silly anecdote but imagine you're the leader of a small town and people all over the town are sending in reports of a 6 ft hairy monster lurking in the woods. Youre getting hundreds of reports every day. The town is scared and they want answers and action.
You look at the footage that people are sending you of the 6ft hairy monster and it appears to be a squirrel. All the videos are the same. Squirrels from afar, squirrels up close. So you tell everyone everything is okay. You haven't seen anything that is a threat. The public is getting even more angry at you because there is a 6ft hairy monster in the woods so how can there not be a threat? You haven't seen all the footage yet, so you cant speak to any 6ft hairy monster at this time. So far from all the data collected, there doesn't seem to be any threat because its just squirrels.
Its hysteria.
Miserable_Meeting_26@reddit
A story like that wouldn’t even reach John Kirby and you know it.
Even if it did he would immediately say that’s a made up story and would laugh it off.
Brother I know this is an aviation sub, and I know you folk like going by the BOOK. My dad is a pilot.
But this is an abnormal story no matter which way you want to spin it. This sounds exactly like the official response to UAPs.
They know they know, and we know they know. They just can’t say. I don’t know how this isn’t at all strange to you unless you’re a literal disinformation agent.
DinoZambie@reddit (OP)
i didn't mean my anecdote to be taken literally. And im not a pilot. I actually believe in UFOs and Aliens. Ive been amazed by it since I was a kid and have seen strange objects in the sky myself. But i'm also skeptical and objective.
My anecdote simply mirrors the situation were in right now. You have a public that claims to see something that is different from what is reality. There are no drones. Its actually a very unique and a rare case of mass hysteria and im sure it will be remembered in history books.
Miserable_Meeting_26@reddit
If you believe in UFOs how would this not seem like the perfect example of disclosure?
Dude I was trying to avoid the alien subject and just go off of official statements which are crazy enough. IMO this is exactly what Lou Elizondo is calling “catastrophic disclosure” where the NHI are going to make themselves known regardless of what our government wants.
Sure they look like planes, but their tech could be so advanced they could look like whatever they want. Think kind of like how AI tries to mimic reality but is just a little off.
If you can entertain that hypothetical, John Kirby’s response earlier would line up pretty closely to that reality.

Entertaining ideas like that is dangerous. For instance, people have already put out that idea, obviously without backing it up, and people run with it as being true. People are recording planes off in the distance and when their phone goes out of focus the pinpoint of light gets big and blurry and they think it transformed into a plasma ball. Theres no telling these people what actually happened regarding the focus. They have already decided that it turned into a plasma ball.
You have to stick with the facts and stay grounded with reality or else you get caught up in delusions and start thinking commercial aircraft are spaceships just like seeing squirrels as 6ft hairy monsters.
most of all of the sightings are traceable on flightradar24, given its not a law enforcement or military vehicles. But you also have to know how to use those tools and factor in margins of error. A lot can happen on a radar in 3 minutes. Flightradar can be off by that much. So no, I don't think any of the planes are actually UFOs. There is no sense in that. If aliens wanted to make themselves known, they would just do it.
This isn't what disclosure looks like. True disclosure is transparent and forthcoming. Whats happening with the congressional hearings is the only way to do it aside from massive internal leaks.
Whats happened over the past few weeks is actually bad for disclosure because it just gives the national security committee proof that the public cant handle it.

I saw numerous videos of people shining lasers at aircraft this evening, claiming they were drones. Laser illumination events are a huge deal. The FAA has most certainly been looking into many.
Dajajde@reddit
So people at Pentagon, FBI and all local authorities saying these drones are real are also part of the "public hysteria"?
People calling every unexplainable massive event a public hysteria because they are too close minded are idiots.
It is confirmed by all reputable sources that something is actually going on, maybe not aliens but saying none of these exist is stupid.
MicahBurke@reddit
“Historically, we have experienced cases of mistaken identity, where reported drones are, in fact, manned aircraft or facilities. We are supporting local law enforcement in New Jersey with numerous detection methods but have not corroborated any of the reported visual sightings with electronic detection. To the contrary, upon review of available imagery, it appears that many of the reported sightings are actually manned aircraft, operating lawfully. There are no reported or confirmed drone sightings in any restricted air space. “
Joint FBI DHS report on the speed supposed drone sightings.
Dajajde@reddit
I'll never understand how can people read something like this and be like "yep, that's it, nothing to see here".
Why can't they see these on radar?
Many of these are manned aircraft, what about others?
Where are any of them coming from and where do they land?
They still didn't give any straight answers, if you're sure it's nothing it's very easy to prove it. You live in a strongest country in the world and it took 3 weeks to give a vague explanation which explained nothing and these things are still flying around like crazy lol.
They shot objects above Alaska a while ago and said they couldn't retrieve anything because of "bad weather" and therefore they don't know what it waw and you were like yeah sure no worries lol. So with $842 billion military budget you couldn't take a clear photo of it, or anything?
They could at least say "we know what it is but we can't say because it's for your own safety and it's not aliens or other nations" and be done with it. But they cant give a 100% straight answer and there's a good reason for it.
MicahBurke@reddit
> Why can't they see these on radar?
Who says they can't?
> Many of these are manned aircraft, what about others?
Which others specifically? Give us specific examples.
> if you're sure it's nothing it's very easy to prove it.
It's actually difficult to prove a negative, especially when true believers dismiss evidence contrary to their opinion, and fail to give specifics regarding their recordings etc.
> You live in a strongest country in the world and it took 3 weeks to give a vague explanation
I expected nothing less. What would you expect if there were no drones, but a massive lack of evidence? The only evidence there's any drone activity is the videos, all of which show normal plane and helicopter operations.
Dajajde@reddit
[State police says that as well as other sources.](
I don't need to mention specific examples. They explicitly said "many of the reported sightings", not "all of them", which means there are others. They did not provide any proof for their statement too.
It's very easy to publish pictures/videos of these things and say "we're 100% sure it's this and not that". Instead, they say they don't know what many of these are.
Many of these sightings are very detailed with tons of data, more detailed then any explanation you linked.
God damn pentagon is saying they exist but that's not good enough for you and your only evidence is "blurry photos" lol.
MicahBurke@reddit
> State police
They're just as useless as any other observer when it comes to objects in the night sky. Police often mistake Venus for drones or helicopters.
If you don't have specific examples, then we have nothing to discuss apart from "ooh, pretty lights in the sky".
It would be very easy for someone to post video, give location, time, date and direction facing... but so far only one or two has. Even when people claim to have looked at FlightRadar type software, they're only looking a few miles away, unaware that you can see very distant planes at night brightly.
If we're talking about the NJ sightings, no, there hasn't been. There's been tons of videos of random lights in the sky (almost all of them displaying legal FAA nav lighting), but I've seen only one that gave partial data about it's location and time, and it was published yesterday.
Baloney. The FBI and DHS stated yesterday: "upon review of the available imagery, it appears that many of the reported sightings are actually manned aircraft, operating lawfully. There are no reported or confirmed drone sightings in any restricted air space."

Yup, 100% that's what's going on. People are just feeding off of each other in this feedback loop of drone this and drone that. I saw a couple videos of people shining lasers at planes claiming they are alien drones as well, and people talking about how they should take a shot at one to see how it reacts. N2DPSKY@reddit

Easy_Enough_To_Say@reddit
My good friend is a 787 pilot for United and sees lights moving in very distinct patterns way above them over the Pacific everytime she flies.
slyskyflyby@reddit
I see those lights too, specifically around sunset/sunrise. I can even predict when I will see them based on how long before sunset/sunrise it is, because it's all based on being in the right spot to see Iridium Flares. They are typically caused by light reflection from the panels on Iridium communications satellites and they are definitely trippy the first time you see them because the seem to move in odd directions and accelerate/slow down but that's just due to the curvature of their path and your relation to them. The flares tend to only last for about 30 minutes to an hour before the sun is no longer in the right position to reflect the light back to you off of the Iridium satellites.

Okay, sure. But that isn't related to this situation. You got people that live between and airport and a flight path for final approach for that airport and theyre saying they see 50 - 60 drones every night. These people are absolutely brain dead. I dont understand how its gotten so bad.
cqb420@reddit
Just to play devils advocate here, we know that the FBI is on the ground in New Jersey and they’re also saying they don’t know what these things are. Many of them are hovering and zigging back and forth like a drone would and a plane wouldn’t.
There’s obviously tons of videos being taken of airliners but that doesn’t discount the mysterious drones.
MicahBurke@reddit
The FBI don’t know cause they haven’t seen them. All they have were the same videos we have in claims from law-enforcement. They have no idea what’s going on because there’s nothing to investigate.
calvincloud9@reddit
The terrifying part about all of these isn’t about these “drones” but about how stupid people are becoming in an alarming rate. I also live near a busy airport and see these planes on approach or holding patterns and track them on Flight Radar. At a distance they look still because, well, they are far and approaching but the common person in New Jersey sees this and thinks “OMG ITS THE DRONES THEY TALK ABOUT” without using their heads that they’ve been seeing planes at night flying before anyone mentioned drones. That link says the FBI doesn't know anything. Again, not a positive response to my request.
'local officials don't know anything except that they are drones. Probably some are Iranian.' Uh huh. Well the second part was debunked in the first link and since they don't know anything, yeah, I don't trust they know they are drones. Just local politicians trying to get a clip on the news.

juice06870@reddit
I live in southwestern Connecticut and i saw some drones on Nov 24. We do live near the flight paths for a few airports but I am very familiar with where the airplanes come and go from. These were not in those flight paths.
We live up on a bit of a hill facing in the direction of Long Island sound, and one night I happened to walk by the window and I saw an immensely bright light in the sky. I stepped out the front door and it was very eerie. It was much brighter than any of the plane lights, it was slowly moving in a west-east direction. Since it was dark out, I could not tell at all how far away it was or how large it was. To my eye, it seemed very large, but I could t determine how far. If I had to take a guess I would say a mile or 2.
Then from the southwest 2 more sets of bright lights were coming in that same direction. They arrived near the same area and they were all slowly hovering in a west-east direction. However the 3rd one returned from the direction it came before returning again.
I wax mesmerized by them. I tried to get some photos on my iPhone but they came out really poorly.
They showed up the next 2 or 3 nights in a row, at least. But after that I was out of the house for a few evenings. Only a few days later did the news stories start popping up about the drones over New Jersey. I haven’t seen them here since.
I didn’t know what to make of them. They seemed way too big and expensive to be someone’s hobby drones. Also I wouldn’t understand why someone would fly 3 or more hobby drones when it was so dark out.
I thought maybe it was the state doing some kind of survey work, but again, I would think that would be better during the day.
Finally I thought that maybe it wax law enforcement using them to try to track some some kind of suspect or suspects. But once I saw the drones over the same area the following 2 nights, I ruled it out.
I wish I hopped into my car and drove to where I thought I might be able to get a better look. If they return then I am going to.
notaredditer13@reddit
Did you check if they were on flightradar24?
juice06870@reddit
I did not. Since they appeared to be drones I did not think that they would show up on there.
notaredditer13@reddit
Based on what? Am I correct that what you saw was a single bright white light from each "object"? You are correct that it's impossible to tell the size, height or distance of an object at night if it's just a light. There's no way to know from that alone if they were drones. Could be a searchlight on a police helicopter, could be distant airplane landing lights that drown-out their position lights, etc. And please make sure you positively identify Venus when making these observations.
juice06870@reddit
I look at the sky quite a bit. Which is why I follow both the aviation and astronomy subs. I know what Venus looks like lol. I live in a busy flight path for a few major airports. So I know what airplanes and helicopters look like day and night along with their typical and atypical flight patterns.
Anyway I missed my chance to try to get a closer look or at least take a (shitty) video. This was back in November and they haven’t been back since.
I understand your desire to try to poke holes in everyone’s story. But I know what I didn’t see, and I don’t know exactly what I saw.
notaredditer13@reddit
Ok, I get that you're confident, but that doesn't actually say anything about your sightings. I'm not interested in how confident you are, I'm interested in what you saw. And not what you think you saw, what you actually saw. If anything, telling me how confident you are makes me more skeptical, not less, because you're avoiding examination of your perceptions -- you're actually saying it in plain English that your perceptions don't require examination. That's a really bad look.
juice06870@reddit
Well obviously once the news picked up on it, everyone and their neighbor is going to start reporting that they “saw things”. No one is disputing that some or many of these people are seeing normal aircraft or something. Remember that half the population are morons.
I mean I don’t give a flying shit how skeptical you are. I’m not here to convince YOU of anything. I just shared my one story about this save kind of event. Some people just like to come onto Reddit and be completely obtuse to other users for some strange reason, and that is the vibe I get from a lot of your comment history. So I guess if that makes you feel like you are smart or something, then have at it.
If these 3 objects return, which i doubt they will, I’ll be sure to check all your boxes for you.
exohugh@reddit
It is physically impossible to determine the distance to a flying object you cannot identify. It could be orbiting at 200km moving 6 miles a second, or it could be 200m away and moving 6 miles an hour - they would look identical.
juice06870@reddit
That's a fair comment.
Based on how bright and large the lights were from my view, I don't think the objects could have been "too" far away. Certainly now that I think about it, it could have been more than a mile or 2.
As the crow flies from my house, Long Island and the flight paths for the airports are about 11-12 miles away. There is no way these objects were that far. But they could have been a few miles further over Long Island Sound between CT and LI.
Now I regret not taking a video, even though it would not have been very good. The 2 photos I took are worthless, just giant balls of light in the sky.

Why focus on actual strangeness when we can show a few videos of actual planes at night and assume every single sighting must obviously be a plane? I've been told these pilots seeing things must be crazy and shouldn't be allowed to fly anymore.
I just hate how immediately dismissive people are on this subject. Just because a bunch of average citizens are mis-identifying planes doesn't mean there isn't an active drone problem around military bases. Usless of course you want to believe that the government entities reporting them are also too stupid to know what is and isn't a plane.
When it comes to pilots both airline and military, we need to take their reports very seriously. Shout out to Ryan graves and https://www.safeaerospace.org/

notaredditer13@reddit
Thanks! And do we have any evidence that these confirmed sightings by the military are connected to the civilian reports and videos? Do we even have any details at all about the confirmed sightings?
People do indeed illegally fly drones above military bases. A Chinese spy was recently arrested for it. But the existence of a few of those real cases doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the current hysteria beyond an initial spark.
easy18big@reddit
Completely agree. I'm sure at least some of which were reported by citizens match up with what military are seeing but I'd have to guess it's a small percentage. Now this is just what a military contact I have at Langley told me last December, but he said that the ones that were buzzing Langley for over two weeks didn't have lights and they couldn't pick them up on any frequency. I would imagine those need higher tech to get picked up, which would lead me to believe that almost all of the recent videos from citizens are either actual aircraft or a different light phenomenon.
I saw the news about the chinese spy recently and remember some very similar cases in the past. Those guys seem to get tracked down extremely fast. But drones that give off RFs are also easy to jam right out of the air, which is why you see the fiber optic drones being used in Ukraine. I agree again on your last point, I feel like what the Military is detected over their bases is not the same thing creating the hysteria. I think it's the news and government in general. All over the news every day and then you hear from the feds that local police, military, fbi, doj, ect have no idea where these are coming from or leaving to. That in good times would create fear in citizens, at a time where government trust is at an all time low it's only going to amplify.
notaredditer13@reddit
That's what I think too. There's even a very good chance there's no overlap at all. The "drone" would have to be brightly lit and high enough for a civilian to see it over a military base. There's no reason for such a drone to be lit at all and even a lit commercial drone would be just about invisible a thousand feet away (they arent brightly lit).

Ok-Entrepreneur7324@reddit
The fact there's been a government meeting discussing this with the consensus being "We don't know what they are" tells me that they genuinely have no track on these, plane, drone or otherwise. The question is: how can you prove a craft type and airline carrier if there's no transponder ID, radio contact, and they show up en masse like this? Could it be a UFO, possibly. Plane, perhaps? Most likely, but not always. Flight radar 24 shows all active TRANSPONDING aircraft, but not everything up there is pinging IDs, especially military and contracted government aircraft. So, they can certainly be human piloted craft, but, not everyone is talking back ....
CoffeeFox@reddit
I was under the impression that military aircraft sharing airspace with civilian aircraft have their transponders enabled.
Ok-Entrepreneur7324@reddit
Depends on the mission and agency the aircraft belongs to. Civilian aircraft are under a different jurisdiction than government aircraft, and not all FAA rules apply to military aircraft. The disciplinary actions of the FAA vs the branch the aircraft is registered to be is one example. But don't take my word for it, watch C.W. "Mover" Lemoine or Ward "Mooch" Carroll, who break down military and civilian mishaps and what does and doesn't apply to the GA and MA communities respectively.

None of this adds up and the silence on this sub is shocking honestly.
Asterza@reddit
That’s what drives me nuts about this. Yea sure, some people are paranoid about these drones and stretch their imaginations. However these things stopped an emergency helicopter from landing and law enforcement is having a hard time finding where these came from. Just as it’s eye rolling to see “MUH ALIENS” it’s also just as annoying to me to go “HAHA IDIOTS, CLEARLY DRONES” while adding nothing to the actual conversation
FoxtownBlues@reddit
flightradar does not show all aircraft with transponders on, they omit some at request, adsbexchange shows all transponders that they pick up
God_Damnit_Nappa@reddit
I wouldn't be surprised if this was some DARPA stuff that even members of Congress don't know about. Although I guess that theory gets thrown out the window since they're flying over densely populated areas
Ok-Entrepreneur7324@reddit
What makes you believe that ANY government agency wouldn't do something in populated areas, just to sit back and observe the reactions and entropy that ensues? From biowarfare on civilians to deliberately spreading syphilis to the "black" soldiers during the Tuskegee experiment (the same program that gave us the Tuskegee airmen), there's nothing I'd put past any acronym agency, publicly acknowledged or not.
Calm-Salamander-5307@reddit
Where the fuck is the FAA in all of this?
FoxFyer@reddit
This has been mentioned in other places by other people and been blown off before, but I'll say it again here because this actually really important and matters: the drones so far haven't been shown to be doing anything illegal, and that severely restricts what the authorities even could do about them.
The airspace the drones are being sighted in is all Class G, unrestricted and uncontrolled airspace. Pilots can fly in it wherever they want, whenever they want. They don't need to be in contact with ATC or file flight plans. The same freedoms apply to drones, as long as they stay below 700 feet. They also don't need transponders. This means that as long as they obey that altitude restriction, the drones are legally free to go about their business whatever it is. The authorities - whether local, state, federal, or military:
It does not matter what the drones are flying over. Local authorities can complain about "critical infrastructure" all they want; legally, it means nothing. The airspace is unrestricted, so things can fly there.
The only exceptions are Temporary Flight Restrictions, or TFRs. These are small areas of specially restricted airspace that no aircraft or drones are allowed into without permission for as long as the TFRs last. There are two TFRs in the area in question - one over DJT's private golf course, and one over the Picatinny Arsenal. Both went up last month in response to the drone sightings, and there is no evidence that any of the drones have entered those TFR areas since they went up. And it's important to note that before they went up, the airspace over both locations was unrestricted, meaning no drones broke any rules by flying over them, if they did.

What are they going to say? We don’t know what the lights you saw are because you didn’t provide any data about the location or time or date that you took the video so until then it’s just lights in the sky. With that data they can go oh that’s American Airlines 231 headed for San Francisco.

Yeah, aliens surely, using the lights for flight traffic
And appearing in America near NYC, just like in every B rated alien movie
Life is not Hollywood bruh, people need to wake up

Open flightradar, find Morristown NJ, where the sightings are reported, observe for 2 minutes and you'll see 10+ low flying (like 1km above ground) bjets, airliners, and other planes going to or from Newark, JFK, and other nearby airports

It's a good point. I don't know what the consequences might be, but I remember when people started saying we should ban chlorine (all forms), scientists (like me) just chuckled and ignored it. N2DPSKY@reddit
I get it. It's hard to use UFO for its literal meeting without connotations or something else. It's been co-opted by the believers.
mymar101@reddit
For some reason the media in general seems to do this with all supposed UFO stories. It’s almost always something explainable. The problem with Fox is that anything they say has to be taken with a huge grain of salt. Especially if it’s political in nature. Without exception it’s either bald faced lies or misrepresentation of the truth.

DinoZambie@reddit (OP)
Well heres what I think. There were initial reports of drones over military bases and a news segment was aired that featured someone filming an airplane. Lots of people saw that news report and now they're out filming airplanes every night. They make reports about drones in the area and then the News networks do stories about "Increased reports of drones" and its just a feedback loop of delusion. Theres nobody around to snap people out of it. Every day it gets worse and worse.
lochiel@reddit

lochiel@reddit
Not my point.
You are complaining that people aren't doing something. I'm pointing out that people have been doing that exact thing for 80 years
DinoZambie@reddit (OP)
Whats happening lately over the past few weeks is not like the last 80 years. People have a clear observation of commercial airliners and they claim that it is something different despite having no reason to believe otherwise. They even say "they look like airplanes but theyre not". Its not a case of misidentification. They really think that commercial airplanes are drones.
poplglop@reddit
"Feedback loop of delusion" is the perfect description for the state of America right about now.
slyskyflyby@reddit
One of the first ones I saw that sparked the panic was a C-17 landing at McGuire at night with its formation and nacelle lights on and people were freaking out because normal human made aircraft don't have lights like that. I think the feedback loop really started to gain traction when people started to pay more attention to C-17's landing at McGuire, hence why this hot bed for UAP/Drone talk seems to be centralized around New Jersey.
slyskyflyby@reddit
Surprisingly, CNN has refused to run any stories about the NJ drones.

LogicalGent23@reddit
I saw a video with some guy talking about the drones. People were saying they are the size of cars. He then shows a picture of a military Reaper Drone insinuating these are the drones flying over. Like a Reaper would have navigation lights on. Plus if you have one of those overhead, you’re about to have a bad day. Now videos are all over YouTube looking for views and subscribers.
GenXpert_dude@reddit
Reapers have nav lights, and the only time they're not used is in operational use away from any potential air traffic. My buddy flies them for border patrol ops and they always have their nav lights on- only off for covert use. People keep lumping Predator/Reaper etc in with quadcopters- it's an unfortunate term.
LogicalGent23@reddit
Thanks for the clarification on that, I appreciate it. It makes sense they would have them if needed. What got me, are the people suggesting they’re flying them around NJ like they have nothing better to do with them. The next topper came with the Senator suggesting there is a drone mothership from Iran. Where is H. G. Wells when you need him lol.
GenXpert_dude@reddit
Some people with some credibility have seen some things, but now that everyone is looking for them- every moron who can't tell a plane from a heli from a quadcopter is reporting everything.

We in the UK seem to be having some reasonably genuine looking Drone sightings over a couple of USAF airbases here in the UK.
One of the bases has been used by the USAF for various "black ops" in the past, with adjacent roads being shut late at night while "something" either landed or took off...
Fast forward to today, and there have been numerous sightings of drones over the base at night to the point British service personnel have been tasked to patrol the adjacent countryside looking for the perpetrators.
In response to the news, various YouTube "Investigators" have been to the area at night, and flown their drones looking for the "suspect" drones...In fairness they have not been flying over the base itself as that's restricted, but they fly as close as they legally can.
Add to this, there is strong evidence that American and British service personnel are using drones to surveil the base and the adjacent countryside, and the whole sighting situation by Joe Public just starts spiralling out of control...

DinoZambie@reddit (OP)
Theres nothing to investigate. But lets say there is..
Average New Jersey resident calls the police. Police take it seriously and then what? Police call who? FBI? Okay, FBI takes the report. FBI calls who? The Pentagon? Youre already overstepping the boundary of how far an uncredible citizen has.. but okay, they report it to the airport and the airport looks on their radar and sees multiple commercial aircraft in the airspace. All looking normal. Lets say they know exactly where the original average citizen made the report. Doesnt matter. radar looks normal. So now what? Scramble jets just in case? Okay, who calls who? Airport calls the whitehouse? The Air Force? Okay, the Air force takes the call. Who is authorizing the Air Force to fly over populated areas? NORAD? FAA? Pentagon? Whitehouse?... its been 30 minutes (at best) since the caller made the report and the drone is gone.
How many of these calls are they going to get every night?
boywithleica@reddit

The drones either are observing/sensing the experiments and perhaps in certain cases mounted with plasma and field generating equipment themselves. The research could be in furtherance of many different dual use techs in propulsion, communication, weapons and sensing. RadioRon1980@reddit
To those alarmed by what they are seeing, they ARE seeing UFOs as the Objects are Unidentified and Flying (unless they are recording planets like Venus). I haven't seen what they're seeing, so I can't judge. I've flown aircraft. I've never seen a drone except on new years eve about 15 years ago when they were fairly new and novel to wealthy enthusiasts. That night they were flying multiple drones with lights on them around the (NJ) Woodbridge/Edison border. The FAA had little or no laws regarding drones yet, so I wasn't concerned. The main questions I have about claiming they are civil or commercial aircraft is: "Did you hear the engines?", "How fast were they moving?", and "What maneuvers did they make?" Typical aircraft generally fly fairly straight paths if they are any distance from airports at night. Lastly, I've been using one of those free apps on my cell phone to identify any aircraft I'm interested in, as with FlightRadar24. They identify nearly everything non-military in the sky, and I doubt the military would be taunting the public with illuminated aircraft not using an identification transponder. My belief is that some of them ARE drones, and they're are some rogue enthusiasts who are relishing the alarm they are causing out in those mostly rural areas. I've heard of NO reports around any of the highly populated areas. All the sightings seem to be in less populated areas with very dark skies and where far off ("silent") aircraft are more visible on clear nights. I'm not concerned. I would highly recommend any "witnesses" double check FlightRadar24 or similar sights before calling the authorities, and the authorities should as well.

A vast majority are videos of helicopters and airplanes.
DinoZambie@reddit (OP)
I think i saw that video... The guy was filming it through a double paned window. It was an internal reflection within the window. When he panned across to another double paned window, the position of the reflection changed and thus "disappeared".
karmacousteau@reddit
Found it. https://www.reddit.com/r/UFOs/s/xKXgeIwNw9
The small light is definitely outside. You can see the pane and the other reflections on the pane when he moves. But the light does not follow the movement of the other reflections.
DinoZambie@reddit (OP)
Yea, thats the video I was talking about too. Its an internal reflection from the window. You can even see the effect from the christmas lights across the street. The christmas lights are internally reflected over the garage door.
When he pans over to the other glass square, the position of the reflection changes because the glass isnt aligned the same way at the first window so the reflection is going to be in a different spot.
karmacousteau@reddit
I'm having a tough time seeing that based on the rate of camera pan to the speed and positioning of the light. At one point he stops panning and the rate of speed of the light is continuous.
DinoZambie@reddit (OP)
You can start to see it at 0:18
Look at the bottom of the screen where the christmas lights are. Look at the top right corner of the garage (your right side) and you will see the reflection of the christmas lights. Same distance apart at the aircraft is from the "drone".

To me that definitely looks like a reflection

At one point, the camera isn't panning, but the light is still moving.
arivas26@reddit
Because the helicopter is moving
karmacousteau@reddit
It didn't seem like it, but I'll have to look again.

I've heard a theory where they could be adversary drones but they're just disguising them as planes so they can get past air defenses without causing a panic or arousing too much suspension. Also pretty sure they're drones(or whatever) if they aren't showing up at all on flight radar as aircraft. Camouflage drones have been an idea for a long time.
UFO64@reddit
I have no comment on these things.
extremelyalien@reddit
Everything is a UFO when you are bad at identifying things.
AutoRot@reddit
Literally zero UFO reports from the very busy airspace. If they are there, they are low and unexceptionable.
YouCannotBeSerius@reddit
Because conspiracy gets views/clicks.
also, only morons watch Fox News, but honestly all TV news is BS nowadays. you're better off reading GroundNews and sticking to movies on TV.
The_Cosmic_Coyote@reddit
Fox News is a fucking joke
Auton_52981@reddit
Maybe so, but Not Funny. One Star.

Brother I'm trying. I think the very term UFO is a motte-and-bailey. Someone says "UFOs have been spotted over military base/powerplant/etc." implying it's some non-human intelligence or has some nefarious purpose. If you confront them that it's clearly just a plane, then they move to the bailey of "Well UFO technically just means unidentified object. Lots of people say it looks like different things. I guess we'll never know for sure."

That pigeon has a red light in its eyes...
agha0013@reddit
what makes you think they are all clearly airplanes?
Hot_Net_4845@reddit
The fact that they, you know, look like airplanes?
