NYC GA Airport Recommendations

I'll be heading east from Chicago to NYC next week for a couple of days. I want to land and park my 182 somewhere close to the city, ideally near a PATH or other train line that goes into Manhattan. All I need is fuel and a parking place and decent transportation to the city and back. Morristown, Essex County and Linden all look interesting but I'm not familiar with these areas. Any recommendations? Thanks

You have a lot of options - none of which are close to train outside of maybe Linden, which would be about a 2 mile walk to the local NJ Transit train station. However, all of the airports you mentioned have car service via Uber/Lyft or a dedicated rental office. That would be the way to go.
In terms of GA friendly, I would say Linden is probably the cheapest with the least amount of services. CDW and MMU are about equivalent for what you are looking for (I would call their respective FBOs for more specifics).
Also, just FYI: If you are bent on the train, you are looking for a NJ Transit train station that can take you to Newark Penn where you can switch over to the PATH to get into the city (or stay on NJ Transit if you are going to New York Penn). Up to you.

Thanks for the great response. As I'm going near MSG, I was hoping to jump on a train into Penn Station but it's a nice-to-have. I just want to avoid a 40 mile Uber ride.

If you are going near MSG, Linden train station is served by the Northeast Corridor which means you just stay on it (Track #1 at Newark) until you hit New York Penn. Done. Very easy.
I would call and find out if you can get an Uber ride to and fro the Linden train station. There are tons of drivers here BUT it's a pretty short ride which can be difficult with ride-sharing services (not enough revenue). Of course, it's less than 2 miles, so if the weather is nice, you could walk it. Good luck!
