Are you sick with a cold/flu/covid at the moment?

It’s that time of the year where so many colleagues and friends are ill with sniffles and so on. People on the train coughing their guts up. I’ve also had a runny nose and feeling super tired for about 10 days and really fed up with it now.
Are you feeling it at the moment? Or have you managed to escape catching whatever is making the rounds at the moment?
Exotic-Narwhal-3358@reddit
How is everyone now? I'm on day 6 and I honestly can't tell you the last time I felt so unwell. Started feeling unwell 5 days ago with weakness headache after 2 days I felt completely fine for a day then yesterday started to feel weak again and today my chest is so sore! Throat inflamed, temp, cough whole body aches, fever dreams! So worried I won't be well enough for christmas and my kids depend on me
TheRealJustSean@reddit
Yup. This is one of the worst I've ever had. I'm simultaneously on fire and freezing, every nerve ending on my skin is hyper sensitive, I can't sleep because I can't breathe on my back, and I've gone through four boxes of tissues in three days. I feel weaker than I ever have, and I'm also constantly dehydrated but Amy tome I drink anything it just goes right through me and I have to pee almost immediately.
MixAway@reddit (OP)
Yikes that sounds horrific. Hope you feel better very soon.
TheRealJustSean@reddit
Thank you kindly
DemonicFrog@reddit
Been out with Norovirus, I'd gladly have had a cold.
VxDeva80@reddit
Snap mate and I've been left with horrendous heartburn lasting 8 hours whenever I try and eat anything.
StandardBanger@reddit
I still can’t eat vintage cheese thanks to Bloody Norro 😭😭😭
Immorals1@reddit
I had a pack of samyang 3x noodles before norovirus emptied me.
Not been able to look at them since
StandardBanger@reddit
Not many people can look at Buldak noodles ever again after having them 🍑 🔥 💩
Chemical-ali1@reddit
Probably not Norovirus if you acquired it through vintage cheese (unless the cheese had been handled by someone with Norovirus shit / vomit on thier probably unwashed hands).
Plenty of other D&V nasties you can get directly from vintage cheese, but Norovirus is likley innocent in this one!
barrybreslau@reddit
I think people get it and fixate on/associate the sickness with something they ate around the time
StandardBanger@reddit
Nope, I’d not had any for a few days when my husband gifted me Noro after catching it at work. I just can’t eat some of the things I used to now, they’ve tasted too strong & overwhelming 😭😭😭
wearezombie@reddit
Definitely, I wonder if it’s a survival instinct thing of associating smells/tastes with “poison”. Last year I got food poisoning and we figured out based on who in the house got sick and who ate what that it was some chicken kyivs from dinner the night before. Unfortunately the last thing I ate before the food poisoning hit was some curry. Still can’t bear the thought of eating curry even though logically I know for sure that it didn’t make me sick.
PigeonBod@reddit
Yep. Mine was tragically sushi.
StandardBanger@reddit
I know how Noro works. Having the virus changed how my tastebuds have felt about many foods, anything stronger tasting has been impossible to eat since having it. Ergo vintage cheese is too much for me & I used to adore it.
Anya_Maria@reddit
Not that I miss it but my noro experience involved Wagamama 5 years ago. Haven’t eaten it since 😭
StandardBanger@reddit
😱😱😱 I feel your pain. It’s weird, it seemed to change my tastebuds & nixed plenty of foods. Also can’t look at gluten free brioche still either 🤢
KelvinandClydeshuman@reddit
I had norovirus around this time 2 years ago. It's a horrible virus, knocked me out for days 😫 so I can completely sympathise with you.
TangerineFew6830@reddit
I get it every year on my birthday, new years eve. 6 years in a row, I dont even make plans now, its like clockwork, absolutely horrible
livesinateapot@reddit
Norovirus terrified me. I hope you’re better now
This_Suit8791@reddit
I had Covid in early 2021 and ever since then when I catch the cold/flu it totally wipes me out. I don’t believe I’ve had Covid since then but not 100% sure but I did suffer from long Covid for a good while after and I honestly think it triggers again when I catch cold or flu.
I was generally quite a fit person and the job I did at the time (delivery driver) meant I was up and down stairs quite a lot, even in blocks of flats I would walk up and down the stairs instead of going in the lift but since Covid I just can’t do it without getting so out of breath.
People might not think it but china really did change the world with it.
ActAccomplished586@reddit
Everyone my wife, daughter and both in laws have the same horrendous virus.
I don’t, but have the flu jab. They all believe it’s dangerous so didn’t get it.
here-but-not-present@reddit
I had COVID a month ago and now I have a flu kicking my arse. Everything hurts so bad, and all I want to do is sleep.
Theinnerslut@reddit
Managed to catch the flu last week and was hospitalised for it 😫
blurdyblurb@reddit
That's awful to hear, I'm going to pay for a flu vaccine!
Theinnerslut@reddit
Yes do what you can to protect yourself
MixAway@reddit (OP)
Oh no, sorry to hear that. Hope you’re on the mend.
Theinnerslut@reddit
I think being on a LOT of medication has helped me heal but still getting the odd chest pains thanks to it reaching my asthma quickly. Thank you so much for the kindness❤️
Minimum_Leopard_2698@reddit
Currently on week 3 of this! Caught it from hospital when I was in for something else, the ward was full of people with severe chest infections or pneumonia…
Nurses and Doctors said it’s another round of Covid but it’s not public information yet.
In A&E last night (with partner this time) and masks were mandatory again. If you’re chests vulnerable please take your symptoms seriously it’s not flu ❤️
Orwell1984_2295@reddit
Masks need to be reinstated in hospitals and other healthcare settings permanently rather than shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted. There's a huge failure to learn and do better.
Minimum_Leopard_2698@reddit
Making anti bac gel available is so important too. My local hospital has essentially shut to the public due to Norovirus outbreak for the third time in 6 years… the hand gel bottles are always always empty or there’s not enough left
Orwell1984_2295@reddit
Unfortunately hand sanitiser can't kill norovirus. Hand washing is needed. Good hand hygiene, at this stage, should be a given in hospitals. But this needs to go hand in hand with clean air, masks, ventilation otherwise our hospitals will continue to be overwhelmed and staff absences high too.
fixitmonkey@reddit
Whole family has been destroyed by the flu. I'm doing slightly better than the wife and kids so I'm on the camp bed between the kids in the lounge dispensing calpol and water. My poor wife is bed ridden. Not had a virus like this for a while, it feels worse than the first round of covid. Just want it to be over now.
Dangerous-Regret-358@reddit
I'm curious. Did any of you get a flu jab?
fixitmonkey@reddit
No, unfortunately. My parents did get the jab but both still got this flu badly
Atoz_Bumble@reddit
My son and I have had it too. Bloody awful isn't it? I had a day where I couldn't even sit up in bed. 9 days on and I'm still wiped out without any appetite.
I think last week was the most ill I've ever felt.
fixitmonkey@reddit
My only saviour has been cycling carb mix, it's basically flavoured sugar water but tastes less sweet (think a watered down lucozade). It's given me energy when I could only stomach liquids and got me past the sickness. Worth a try if you need it.
Redgrapefruitrage@reddit
Yep. Husband and I are on day three of a cold (confirmed not covid). My MIL was off all of last week with a cold. So was my best friend, both my bosses, and my neighbour. It is that time of year!
yorangey@reddit
Full of cold.
anti-sugar_dependant@reddit
Nope. I don't like getting sick, so I wear a respirator mask where I'm sharing air with other people. It's easy and cheap, and it works really well as long as your mask fits and you don't keep taking it off in air that someone else breathed out. You need FFP2 or FFP3 masks though, without gaps. Surgical or cloth masks won't keep you safe, because colds, flu, and covid are all airborne, which means they move like smoke, something the UK in general seems to have failed to grasp.
Lunabuna91@reddit
This. I honestly thought masking would become the norm, especially in crowded spaces & hospitals/Dr surgeries. It’s gone the opposite way. Nuts.
anti-sugar_dependant@reddit
Semmelweis proposed handwashing in 1847, but more than 150 years later, in 1999, a gynecologist was happy to put his full name and job title on his letter he wrote to the BMJ to say there was no way he was going to be doing this newfangled handwashing between patients lark. 25 years later, most hospitals still don't reach hand hygiene targets of I think about 80%. They tend to hoover around 50-70%. They increase when targeted efforts at compliance are made, but slump back when those efforts cease. So, given we can't trust healthcare workers to wash their damn hands, I'm not at all surprised they won't wear masks either. It's bog standard health supremacy and ableism, no different to the way healthcare workers have always behaved.
Lunabuna91@reddit
the guy who was put in a psych ward for realising germs cause illness and proposed the hand washing and was effectively murdered in there? History has a way of repeating itself.
DannyBrownsDoritos@reddit
Im sorry but this is utter insanity.
anti-sugar_dependant@reddit
You don't have to be, but that's how you avoid getting sick while you're sharing air with people who have diseases that transmit via the air. It's your choice if you'd rather get sick.
DannyBrownsDoritos@reddit
I can't really remember the last time I got sick that wasn't me being deliberately infected, but that said do you honestly think that wearing a full on respiratory mask the entire time is in anyway practical for the average person trying to live a healthy and productive professional and social life though.
anti-sugar_dependant@reddit
I mean, I'd much rather prefer mandated clean air, but we don't have that, so I'd rather mask than get sick. It's not difficult, I've been doing it for 5 years, and I've no plans to stop. I don't really care what other people do. It's a bit weird that you do, tbh.
MixAway@reddit (OP)
The way I feel at the moment, this might be my approach too!
anti-sugar_dependant@reddit
I haven't been sick for 5 years, for a cost of less than £20/year for my P3 elastomeric. Costs about £15 for the filters for a year, and then the mask itself was £35 and will last years. Or you can wear disposable FFP3s or FFP2s, which are more expensive (can reduce costs by reusing them until dirty or don't fit), but also more socially acceptable. FFP3 is the white one on the left, elastomeric is the blue one on the right. I prefer my elastomeric.
Orwell1984_2295@reddit
Thank you for protecting yourself and others. We FFP3 mask around anyone outside our household. I don't understand why most are ignoring the numerous medical papers and evidence that Covid is serious (damaging immune systems, organ damage, frequently sick, brain damage, Long Covid and more) and something we all need to protect ourselves from. I hope more realise the harm they're doing to themselves and their loved ones before it's too late
terryjuicelawson@reddit
It is either a very bad cold or maybe this RSV thing going around but since two Sundays ago I have felt pretty rough. Started with a sore throat, then a very sore throat, then shivers and aches and a sniffle, headaches, it keeps evolving every day. Needed some time off work, annoyingly the worst day was over a weekend. Not fully right even now, I have a hacking cough and a runny nose and just feel very tired and apathetic. Covid test is clear, don't think there is signs of a throat infection as I only had about a day of green stuff. Several others I know are experiencing similar. It was a few days after I went to a gig so probably got it there.
MixAway@reddit (OP)
Yeah similar to me. Evolving…!!
-grimoire@reddit
Colleague brought something back from her trip abroad... am on day 7 of a persistent cough... wake up in the night coughing, no appetite, no energy. No OTC cough treatment touches it. The entire office now has it and my partner is at home in bed with whatever it is... merry Christmas!
KtMrgn@reddit
Yep. Just a cold. Suffered badly with COVID for several months at the beginning of the year so I’m just grateful it’s not worse, but it’s still not pleasant!
insertitherenow@reddit
Not yet but one of my colleagues came into work yesterday coughing and sneezing everywhere when she can work from home.
Loud_Fisherman_5878@reddit
Mine did that too. Our manager even suggested she go home but she didn’t take the hint and kept referring to soldiering on while the rest of us glared at her and tried to shuffle away as much as desks would allow.
ikejime1@reddit
“Soldiering on” or “powering through” is what grinds my gears. It’s like they expect everyone to think they are taking one for the team when really they are just infecting everyone and taking multiple people out…
RegularExplanation97@reddit
Especially if they can actually work from home! Drives me mad 😭
MarshallMathers1973@reddit
They are also subconsciously saying "when you catch it, don't be a pussy and soldier it like me'
insertitherenow@reddit
Thankfully I can work from home and don’t stay too long.
Loud_Fisherman_5878@reddit
We can all work from home too which is why it was so infuriating that she felt the need to stay.
insertitherenow@reddit
Some times you need to go in even if it’s just for a bit. I’m sure some people (sociopaths) go in just to infect other people.
Loud_Fisherman_5878@reddit
I think she is just an extrovert so prefers to be in but for some reason was really not picking up on how uncomfortable everyone was. I just don’t get how people still can’t realise this is going to make their coworkers ill.
insertitherenow@reddit
Eww! One of those people. They are worse. (0:
MixAway@reddit (OP)
The worst time type of person I think. It’s selfish to the max.
RollSavings417@reddit
As someone who is on lifetime immune supprest I couldn't agree more. There's just no need. People like that are just selfish. I try to avoid going out in the winter so I don't end up in an overcrowded A&E. It's not hard to stay home for a bit while you're ill.
spellboundsilk92@reddit
Fucking hate people that do this. So selfish.
MarshallMathers1973@reddit
Maybe she didn't want to come in but was pressured?
spellboundsilk92@reddit
It’s a possibility. At that point though I’d call in sick personally
MarshallMathers1973@reddit
It's difficult with the fear of redundancies etc The manager should have sent her home
EstablishmentUsed325@reddit
Same! Isolate when you’re sick and contagious!
insertitherenow@reddit
I’ve got a pseudo imaginary cold coming on now.
spellboundsilk92@reddit
Time to knock back some Lemsip!
insertitherenow@reddit
I’ve gone with a lemsip/berocca cocktail.
Dawningrider@reddit
Me? No.
The hospital I work at? Put it this way...4 out of the 5 hospitals in the trust last week were so full they were not accepting ambulance re directions.
Orwell1984_2295@reddit
It's a huge concern and makes accessing safe care, especially if vulnerable, almost impossible. Patients can't always mask 100% of the time when being tested or receiving treatment. No one should be going to hospital and coming out with preventable nosocomial infections - we need to at least try something (please, anything meaningful) to reduce the risks to already vulnerable patients
Lunabuna91@reddit
Doctors, nurses masking and hepas in each room, windows open would make the world of difference. But they are against simple public health measures these days for some reason. We are going back to the dark ages.
Numerous-Boot9074@reddit
I had covid for the third time just over a month ago and I still haven’t been able to return to work due to the dizziness, exhaustion and lightheadedness left behind by it. I’ve gone to the doctors so many times just to constantly be told that I just need to wait it out. Going a bit insane now 🫠
Dramatic-Doctor-7386@reddit
Look up POTS. Very common in Long COVID.
TasticTong@reddit
3 Days of sweating buckets whilst shivering with cold, and only getting up to go to loo or get more liquids down me, loss of apetite and plenty snot to boot. Followed by 2 days of generally feeling like crap and with a much reduced lung capacity, making me out of breath walking at my normal speed.. then today, I'm left with snot and a persistent cough that just can't seem to bring anything up 🤬
Cough_Geek@reddit
The persistent cough that doesn’t seem to bring anything up is especially frustrating — it’s like your body’s trying to clear something that isn’t there...
If you haven’t already, it might be worth trying a cough monitoring app. These apps track cough frequency and patterns, which could give you more insight into how your recovery is progressing. You’d also have objective data to share with a doctor if the cough doesn’t ease up.
Hopefully, you’re on the upswing now that some of the worst symptoms have passed. Keep an eye on that reduced lung capacity, though — if it’s still an issue after a few days, it’s worth checking in with a healthcare provider just to be safe.
Themagiciancard@reddit
Not yet but I'm sure I will be soon. I've been tired and/or had insomnia recently as well as just felt terrible mentally. They're normally a good sign illness is coming.
And_Justice@reddit
First day of feeling normal since Sunday before last. Unsure if it was COVID or a cold but fucking hell, I think the 3 day recovery was worse than actually being ill
Huge-Promotion-7998@reddit
Day three of feeling utterly rotten, sore throat into a chesty cough, and an intense cold where I've been sneezing and blowing my nose so much that my sinuses are now very sore and my eyes super sensitive.
LibraryOfFoxes@reddit
Sounds similar to the one I have. Also on day three. The sinus pain is awful. My nose was literally dripping (nice) and now it feels like my lungs have been stuffed with snotty cotton wool and it hurts to cough. Even my ears hurt. It's all very annoying.
I know exactly who gave it to me as well, and I can't even be cross with them as they are a baby. The parents I have been calling all sorts of things though (not to their face, just to myself). Who brings their extremely coldy miserable child out to a packed event and then lifts said baby up on to their shoulders so it can cough and sneeze on everyone around from a great height? Just stay at home and look after it you monsters.
MixAway@reddit (OP)
Damn. Sounds horrible. I can relate, so hope it doesn’t last too long for you. My nose was red and gross from so much blowing!!

Me and my wife both came down with a cold our little'un brought home from school mid-September. It wasn't terrible but was constantly streaming, cough, feeling crap etc. My wife still has a cough from it ~9 Weeks later (she's been through all sorts of tests since).
I got over it late September, only to wake up one morning early October streaming and with a dry cough. Convinced it was Covid but tested negative.. I was really ill for about 3 weeks- lost my voice for two days, hoarse for the 3 weeks. Bad sinus infection - never felt so ill in all my life..
Anyway.. end of October - my lymphnodes flared up in my neck. I started to feel better but was still full of congestion! My lymphnodes never went down by mid-November so was urgently referred to a specialist. That week I got reinfected - did a sputum sample and they confirmed bacterial infection. The stuff coming out of me was/is like toffee and slug consistency! Only mild congestion in the back of my sinuses, but absolutely floored me and constantly having to clear throat, cough to talk, hack it up.
My referral is to ENT and they are drowning in referrals at the minute. I went thus week to my referral only to find the consultant had to go home sick so postponed to next Tuesday now.
These viruses are rough!

Oh wow that sounds horrific!! Hopefully you’re be back to normal sooner rather than later.

Fuck that job.
alice_op@reddit
We had the same, my fella never gets ill - 4 weeks ago I had a mild cold, he had a sniffle for one day and shook it off - that's his usual response to a cold. Never properly ill. Well 2 weeks ago he came down with a proper cold, chesty cough, nasty. He was off work for 1 week and then in the next but crashing out cold on the sofa as soon as he got home. It flared up my asthma so badly I was having 9 asthma attacks a day and needed steroids from the doctor - haven't had an asthma attack since I was a toddler.
No idea what was in that cold, not bad enough to be a flu I think but it was a shocker on the chest!
boudicas_shield@reddit
My husband rarely gets sick but had something similar about a month ago. Never seen him so ill. He didn’t leave the bed for 5 days, didn’t eat for 3, just slept round the clock and would occasionally wake up long enough to choke down a cup of orange juice when I foisted it on him.
I on the other hand have very weak lungs and am in hospital every winter with a bad lung infection, but somehow escaped it entirely by sleeping on the couch. No rhyme or reason with this stuff.
I-was-forced-@reddit
Yeah normally I can just power through it but this one knocked me for 6 it was brutal. Seems like a lot of people have been struck by it this year lots of people complaining on the Internet and the radio .

Half my workplace have been wiped out over the last few weeks so it was only a matter of time. Had a cold last week and over the weekend, obviously no fun but just a usual cold. I was fine Saturday to enjoy my birthday 🥳
Sunday evening I felt rough as horse muck. Started off feeling tired with achy joints, then a fever that saw me up for an hour on Monday and Tuesday and slept throughout the day and night.
Either too hot or too cold, not eaten anything lost my appetite, a horrible cough and sore throat that makes drinking feel like swallowing razor blades.
My chest aches from coughing I still have zero energy and couldn't sleep last night from coughing nonstop.
Neo-Riamu@reddit
I’m sick with something but I cannot tell what it is.
I was fine all day Monday then at 9pm that night I got an extreme tickle at the back of my throat and I was coughing for 30 mins straight. I had a basic cough for around 24h.
9pm Tuesday I lost the cough but got extremely lethargic, nausea and then did not sleep the whole night I was basically a zombie at work.
At around 9pm Wednesday I felt a 100X time better but now I have a swollen/sore throat with a slight runny nose.
I hope I’m well enough for Saturday as I’m gonna go see Hamilton on Saturday.

Me and my partner and our 10 month old have had back to back colds/COVID.
I think it's been COVID because both times I've lost my Smell and taste, also can't get rid of this cough which has caused me to pull my abdominal muscle right hand side of belly so when I cough it's like someone stabbing you or pinching you hard.
The 2 were about a week apart just got my taste/smell back then it happens again! so it's been very stressful especially because my immune system isn't as quick as my partners so I linger with it longer.

Got the flu, despite getting the jab. First time in many years but hit me like a truck, and it did take two weeks of family being sick before it finally for me. At least I'm recovering pretty fast, shudder to think how much worse it would have been without the jab. Was completely bedridden for about 30 hrs, only waking up to take medicine at 4 hrs on the dot from last dose (just as symptoms would kick back in full force) and go pee. Mad body cramps and dry heaving at night. Could only have smoothies all day long. Back to slowly waddling around sometimes and eating some solid food today. Bored out if my mind but can't sleep any more.

Quirky-Trash6283@reddit
Post nasal drip and a swollen throat. I don't know what it is, but I'm guzzling covonia in safe quantities to shift it. Sick of getting sick at Christmas, this would be the 7th year in a row.
EstablishmentUsed325@reddit
I am. Courtesy of my boyfriend
HisLoba97@reddit
Woke up yesterday morning with a sore throat and coughing so much phlegm up. Now got fever and keep sneezing
IanYanYan84@reddit
I'm lucky, I haven't caught anything yet.
Maybe my flu jab is helping with this.
Vyvyansmum@reddit
I thought that too, but I’ve been off a few days with it. Stay lucky 🍀
Vyvyansmum@reddit
I have it now. Red raw throat, coughing & sneezing( or nearly sneezing when your nose just fizzes) rattling chest. Exhaustion, sweating then cold. I’ve been off 3 days- the most sick days I’ve ever had. I haven’t tested for COVID as I can still taste & smell ok. Stomach is fine though. I’m fully jabbed but I work with the general public so I suppose some snotty bastard has spread it round.
F_DOG_93@reddit
I haven't been ill/sick for like 7 years now.
wurst_katastrophe@reddit
Cold no. 4…. horrible year so far.
turntricks@reddit
Yep, currently off with bad flu. I hate being sick this time of year but I’m hoping having it now means I won’t have it for Christmas!
kwakimaki@reddit
Had flu/ covid jabs, still got ill. Just a shitty cold though.
lalagromedontknow@reddit
Everyone has a cough/running or snuffy nose. Hospitality means it's one of the busiest times of year surrounded by people who also have colds/flu.
I think adrenaline stops you being sick, when I'm running around, I can have symptoms (cough, runny nose)l, headache) but don't feel bad. Then as soon as I stopped running around (Christmas eve), I feel like death.
PigeonLass@reddit
Not had anything except a mild cold this season (yet) but my partner is finishing day 6 of bad flu. He has has every sympton listed under 'flu' on the NHS website. Worst I've seen him since Covid in 2021. He feels like he got it from a guy coughing all over the place on a train last Monday, but who knows...
Scottishdrinker@reddit
My 3 kids are and wife but i’m absolutely fine
Aconite_Eagle@reddit
Ive had this sort of cough and phlegm - had it for a week or so and can't shift it. Have to cough every morning like a smoker and just feel a bit generally knackered and ill.
LionAwkward4395@reddit
Sounds exactly the same as what I had a few weeks ago. Took me 3 weeks in total to get over the hump of it. You'll get there eventually. I just remember feeling like it wouldn't end but it does.
MixAway@reddit (OP)
I’m so tired every day at the moment. By 4pm (and with it being dark) I could happily pass out on the sofa!
StandardBanger@reddit
Had Novid recently, it is a bastard… it always goes to my joints & gives me terrible myalgia. Also makes my teeth agony too 😭
Mother in Law has been out for 4+ weeks now after catching some sort of chesty bugger, she’s got brittle asthma, it turned into pneumonia in her lower left lung lobe & she’s been glued to her nebuliser, necking steroids & 2 rounds of antibiotics.
Mxk_Monlee@reddit
Yes. Someone coughed in my face at work. Have been sick ever since. Can't shift this cough.
TheDawiWhisperer@reddit
Yep, had flu about two weeks ago...still not really right, got a nagging cough and I'm fucking knackered all the time
Atoz_Bumble@reddit
Yeah I had flu all last week and left with a chesty cough and zero energy. And a lingering nauseous feeling that means I've not had an appetite for ages.
Just want some energy!!
TheDawiWhisperer@reddit
Aye I've been having naps everyday to keep me functional
Atoz_Bumble@reddit
My son bounced back and has returned to school. So I have to drag myself out of bed to walk him in each morning. Got into a nice routine of getting back from the school run and snoozing on the sofa with old episodes of Frasier on the TV.
I'm guessing sleep is going to be the best thing for us right now.
fionakitty21@reddit
I love channel 4 in the mornings!
Atoz_Bumble@reddit
Catching Frasier is the only time I really watch live TV these days. I'd probably do the same for old re-runs of House if I saw them too. I think that used to be on Channel 4 too. Both shows are strangely comforting for me.
Open to recommendations though!
fionakitty21@reddit
I'm up pretty early so it's normally stick c4 on whilst I have a coffee and stuff (cheers, the king of Queens, frasier I think is current running order in the morns! Then when king of Queens runs through, it back to everybody loves Raymond! I may have watched each of these shows episodes a million times it feels! Like you said, comforting, and an easy watch that can be on as you potter about/get ready etc etc)
EtoshaLeopard@reddit
Yes, I had flu which then turned into a nasty chest infection. Tested negative for Covid. 2 rounds of antibiotics, a chest X-ray (showing an issue), 3 weeks off work and I still feel like crap!!
SoberPinapples@reddit
Hey, do you get this rarely?
You sound like me, and was curious if you had any tips for avoiding it each year.
Cheers
EtoshaLeopard@reddit
Well I kept meaning to get the flu jab but didn’t, so there’s that. I very rarely am this ill but feel like I’m somewhat less resilient following a couple of nasty bouts of Covid since 2020.
SoberPinapples@reddit
I had the flu jab last winter but it did nothing for me. Not convinced they help much for 'flu sensitive' people.
Atoz_Bumble@reddit
This sounds very similar to what I had last week. Had a fever, shivering, sweating litres and the headache from hell. Couldn't move for a day.
This week I'm totally wiped out with a chest infection and still no appetite.
raytherip@reddit
Yeah !! covid positive 2 weeks ago, test negative last Wednesday, started antibiotics for a chest infection yesterday... it sucks... I sorta went covid 5 days, headache shivery, aches & pains. Covid negative out for a walk felt fine Thursday and Friday, Saturday felt a bit rough again, Sunday I had a fever, banging headache, aches & pains back in my joints...even my teeth were sore, nose streaming, paracetamol took the edge of it just...I'm now just nursing a blocked nose, a cough that hurts my head & chest and my breathing isn't a free as it was... least I'm getting better the joys !!
MixAway@reddit (OP)
Oh the worst!! Hope you’re on the road to recovery.
raytherip@reddit
Cheer another side effect I just noticed, when I cough... I get noise coming out both ends !! thankfully just noise lol.
Iaminfactjesus@reddit
I've got a cold that's been pretty bad and it's lingered for the past week or so. I'm honestly annoyed more than anything because this is the third cold in 5 months I've had
poshbakerloo@reddit
No but I know a few people off work sick
NextTomatillo2335@reddit
Shingles. I’d do anything for a cold instead
Shreddd-it@reddit
I had flu a few weeks back, it absolutely kicked my ass for two weeks. I'm now on week four of bad throat, cough and horrible sinus stuff going on. I lost about half a stone in the first week and haven't put it all back on yet. It's been fucking miserable and I've come to the conclusion that every other time I thought I had the flu it was just a cold. Until this week, 20 mins of washing up was too much physical exertion. I work in a warehouse so that's been a challenge. I am very bored of feeling unwell
MixAway@reddit (OP)
Oh I feel your pain. Sorry you’ve had it so rough. I feel fucking fed up with it and can’t really get in a Christmas mood when I feel so wiped out.
Shreddd-it@reddit
Same, we've just had the start of the Xmas rush at work and we're doing overtime. Can't catch a break. I'm thankful that I'm feeling a little better each day, but man is it slow progress. Never had anything like this before
dinkidoo7693@reddit
I had just over 2 weeks of it last month, it wasn’t Covid but I felt so drained and I had the worst head cold.
MixAway@reddit (OP)
Yeah similar to me — not really a temperature as such but head cold, feeling a bit wiped out and just generally not great. Hate it.
dinkidoo7693@reddit
Yeah i didn’t really have a temperature, cough or sore throat. I started to feel a bit better after a few days so i went to the shops, bumped into my mum who said she hadn’t seen me so pale since i was little and she took me straight back home and made me some weird vegetable noodle soup and told me to go back to bed.
MixAway@reddit (OP)
Aah that’s nice! 💙
gadusmo@reddit
I am. Feeling bitter and sorry for myself. Missed the Christmas party too. Poor me.

cowbutt6@reddit
My current employer pays for annual flu vaccinations, so I've been talking advantage of that. This year also saw the availability of a new COVID vaccination, so I went private to get that a couple of weeks before I had to travel for work.
I've WFH for last 4 years, and same still somewhat cautious about spending extended amounts of time in poorly-ventilated areas.
To my knowledge, I've not had COVID, and I'm down to less than one cold or flu infection power year.
theworldsaplayground@reddit
I haven't had so much as a shuffle since about 2020. Didn't get the jab and feeling great.

Same. Haven’t been ill in almost 12 months when I had sinusitis. Was a little sniffy for like 3 days in October. I have a good immune system so don’t envisage being ill anytime soon.
mr-dirtybassist@reddit
Maybe we are just lucky. Lots lot people tend to get sick around me especially at work. Guess who takes all the overtime while everybody else takes sick days 🙃
Suluco87@reddit
Sinus infection, throat is going. Managed to avoid the cough but bugs have taken out literally everyone I work with for at least 3 days a peace. I use public transport so I'm dreading when the cough hits as I can feel coming on in my chest.

Yep, my nose is streaming currently. Somehow my three month old baby caught a cough/cold and now I’ve got it. Big kid was off school for nearly a week with a nasty virus too a couple of weeks ago, which I avoided somehow.
naturepeaked@reddit

Thatwierdhullcityfan@reddit
Just got over quite a nasty cough that knocked me out for a good 10 days, but I’m not sure it was a cold or anything contagious since no one in my family suffered with anything before or after.
gemmajenkins2890@reddit
I have been ill with some sort of cough/phlegm/chest thing for nearly 2 weeks now.
I started feeling under the weather 2 weeks ago tomorrow. By the Saturday, I had a full on stuffy nose etc like I had a bad cold.
It felt like it was going onto my chest Saturday night into Sunday(started coughing - like a deep, thick, phlegmy cough).
I've had the cough ever since. While I am feeling much better in general, I really wish this damn cough would just go now. There's less phlegm now, but still.
MixAway@reddit (OP)
Get well soon. Similar to me, luckily not a huge cough but super run down and tired with a head cold. It’s depressing!
cheeky-ninja30@reddit
Not with cold or flu but a stomach bug of sorts. Had stomach pain today on and off. Got back from work and my bowels informed me they were unhappy.. poor toilet..
MixAway@reddit (OP)
I had a bit of a head cold PLUS the stomach thing the last day or two out of nowhere. OVER IT.

I’ve been unwell for what feels like forever. I came down with tonsillitis, and just as I started to recover, I got hit with sinusitis. It feels like I’ve been run over by a truck, and I’m so exhausted and frustrated. I’m trying to stay hopeful, but all I want is to feel better before Christmas so I can truly enjoy being with my family.
MixAway@reddit (OP)
It’s super frustrating isn’t it? I’m fed up and not feeling festive at all. Get well soon!
Dimac99@reddit
Caught a cold about mid October. I'm usually careful, masking up in shops and on the bus, but I decide to take a chance and get a pub lunch when I met up with my brother for the first time in months. Fortunately the cold itself wasn't that bad and it wasn't covid according to the tests I took, but it's only been about the last week or so that the cough has finally subsided. Learned my lesson.
ForestCl0uds@reddit
I had a nasty cold/flu thing in October despite getting the jab. My partner now has it, it's lingered for a couple of weeks. I feel like I'm starting with it again now despite avoiding him as much as possible (sleeping in separate beds etc). I have a habit of getting poorly for Christmas day so that's probably what's going to happen! It's definitely going round, loads of people have been off work sick.
MixAway@reddit (OP)
Sounds similar. Mine just won’t fully clear up. I felt ok for a day and then it sort of resurfaced so feel like I’m going backwards 😵💫😰
ForestCl0uds@reddit
Yeah, it's super annoying when it lingers like that. Hope you feel better soon!

Had my flu jab. But my daughter has a really nasty barking cough! Luckily it’s not covid! I’ve been wearing a mask when out in order not to bring anything home with me due to her low immunity. Hate this time of year! Germs everywhere.
HauntedByDemons24-7@reddit
Hey not sure how old your little one is but if it’s a barking cough it could be croup. Might be worth a trip to the dr to check. If you can before you go try and record the cough so they can hear it. If it’s croup they’ll know as the cough is so distinctive. Easy to get cleared up although she may need a small dose of steroids. My son used to get it multiple times a year until we moved house >.< Hope she’s better soon.
Ill_Abbreviations548@reddit
Hi thank you. She’s 20 with Down syndrome. We have been into the doctors and they are reluctant to give her antibiotics as they want it to clear on its own. Just have to keep an eye on it in case it turns into a chest infection! This isn’t our first rodeo with sickness over the winter unfortunately. Been giving her lots of lemon and honey for her sore throat. Hopefully she will be fine over the next few days.

URGH tell me about it. I live and work alone and don't have to 'mix' much but I was playing with my little nephew (2) a few weeks ago and cuddled and kissed him - while he was a bit snotty and couging and have been sick ever since :crying:
Barely been able to eat. Actually got much much worse yesterday (day 10) then woke up a bit more level today. Need to nap at least once a day.
MixAway@reddit (OP)
Wow this sounds eerily similar to me. It went ‘away’ a little bit and I had a glimmer of hope, but today I feel like it’s got a bit worse again and it’s put me in a right grump. I’m so sick of it and can’t in the festive mood like this. By about 3pm I feel exhausted.

Always! I have a 3 year old and a 7 year old and we are constantly ill. My 3 year old had surgery on Saturday but must have picked something up on the train up there. She ended up back in hospital because she had a high fever and couldn't keep anything down. They thought she might have sepsis...nope! It's viral and we all have it now. I can't remember the last time I had a fever this high and my husband and I are miserable!
A week before that we had a cough and 2 weeks before that we had what I assume is flu, that lasted 2 weeks. We cannot get a break right now!

Nah, I don't leave the house and I work from home. I'm going out for a night out next week though, so I already know I'll catch something and then regret ever socialising. The last two times I went out I got COVID. I'd rather not get sick again for daring to step foot out of the house for an evening.

Yes! Husband had a sore throat for a couple of days and a nasty cough, I was with him for ONE day and I’ve suddenly been ill for five! Hopefully this’ll be it now before Christmas 🙏🏻
JennyW93@reddit
Yeah, my first virus of the season and it’s already looking like the beginnings of tonsillitis. Don’t actually feel too bad, just feels like I’ve been eating sandpaper
JennyW93@reddit
Oh, actually, I sneezed so hard earlier I pulled a muscle in my back. That bit feels pretty bad. Otherwise I’m basically fine
Lexiiiis@reddit
I was at the weekend. My partner is. My dad is.
ChelseaMourning@reddit
Yep. Had flu since Sunday and only just made it out of the house this morning. Was due to have my flu jab 2 weeks ago and they cancelled on me when I got there. So I just went and got flu instead.
Wang_Doodle_@reddit
Yep. And just remembered I didn’t get a flu shot this year
coffeewalnut05@reddit
No. But I also live a relatively more isolated life. Wouldn’t have it any other way tbh
mohammedafify1@reddit
Cold, my wife and myself, just hope not our little girl too.
Dramatic_Dare@reddit

ridgestride@reddit

Paracosm26@reddit
