PC No Longer Turns On After CPU Replacement

There were no shocks, no visible damage, the pins all set exactly as they should - but now that she's plugged in, she's dead. Thermal paste came pre-applied on my new Ryzen 5 5600, so i didnt mess with that. Just set my new cpu into the proper slot, fastened on the fan, and now the entire rig is deader than disco. I cant tell whats wrong.

Did you plug the cpu cooler into the header on the MOBO for the cpu fan? If not most wont power on.
Pugpoots@reddit (OP)
I did, tried both directions.
SirTrinium@reddit
Does it work again if you put your old CPU back in?
Pugpoots@reddit (OP)
It does not, it wont power on with either
Vltor_@reddit
If it booted with the old CPU prior to installing the new CPU and it now no longer boots with the old or new CPU, i think you might have managed to kill the Mobo somehow.

God i hope not, i cant afford to replace this too

Never heard of CPUs coming with thermal paste pre-applied before, you sure it’s a brand new chip ?
Pugpoots@reddit (OP)
It was on the fan, its new.
Vltor_@reddit
I’m guessing you mean that it was on the coldplate of the cooler that came with the chip and not that it literally was on a fan ?
ferretpaint@reddit
I've heard of it on the coolers or fans, but never the cpu. Maybe someone returned it covered in thermal paste and OP got a "new" returned one
Vltor_@reddit
Yeah that was what I was thinking aswell. Mb the chip is dead and that’s why It was returned and why OP’s rig won’t boot.

Take the little battery out of the motherboard for 20 seconds and put it back in.
Pugpoots@reddit (OP)
Where can i find that?
Subjekt9@reddit
It’s on the front of the motherboard. It’s disc shaped and is about the size of a quarter

Put the old one back. See if it still boots. Did you update bios? Is there red light? Will it even turn on power?
Pugpoots@reddit (OP)
I did, no it does not, i did prior and it worked great, theres no light, and as mentioned in the post it will not take power :(
Vader425@reddit
Did the mobo require a BIOS update to use that chip?
Pugpoots@reddit (OP)
It did, and it worked fine post-update, it just failed on the new chip.
ferretpaint@reddit
Can you put the old one back in?
Also what motherboard and was there any bios update done?
Pugpoots@reddit (OP)
I did, and it still didnt boot :(
Its a Biostar A320mh, i flashed bios to the latest version and it was running really nice with the old cpu.
terriblestperson@reddit
Have you done a bios update? Many older AM4 motherboards required a bios update for 5000-series chips.
