The Dallas Marathon is this weekend. Remember that there is no way to cross this line. In years past, one could use side streets to make their way through town but no longer. You’ll either be inside or out of the loop for the duration so plan accordingly. I love being a spectator so go out and have fun with it!
Significant_Lemon386@reddit
Is it possible to pass through the road closures on foot? Trying to get somewhere this morning and might try to just walk….
Top_Term7689@reddit
Does anyone know if the segment of the Santa Fe Trail for the ultra will let through-traffic by?
I was planning using it to get to the Lakewood Farmers Market. I’ll probably just try it and have an alternate route planned.
carbloading-22@reddit
Chicago, Boston, NYC all hold a marathon every year and they don’t seem to struggle. Yall suck
honeybanana___@reddit
Those three cities are all walkable cities. Dallas is not.
Specialist_Royal_449@reddit
What? there's a marathon of yuppies in BMWs trying to run cyclists off the road and sideswipe pedestrians? Seems pretty on point for an event for Dallas to host. Just can't believe they're finally coming out and admitting it .
rum_runna@reddit
As someone partaking in the event, I think this is very a very funny comment. Tough crowd downvoting it
rtorrs@reddit
Hilarious interpretation of what a BMW Dallas Marathon is
Specialist_Royal_449@reddit
Ah I see someone understands the concept of a joke
black_lake@reddit
Marathons are runners not drivers. It's just sponsored by BMW. Youre new to Dallas aren't you? Because this has been around since the 70s.
CubedMeatAtrocity@reddit (OP)
Ummm, it’s one of the great sporting events in our city with a long history. Why insult several groups of people for no reason. I’m sure you can occupy yourself for a few hours.
metrorhymes@reddit
Zero fucks given for those that work service industry downtown.
HughJazz123@reddit
Lots of bars and restaurants booming downtown at 7am on a Sunday?
YoMTVcribs@reddit
Those 125 people who want brunch > the thousands of people who spent all year training for the event and their families cheering them on.
clothkili@reddit
It wraps around the theater district which has a few shows running right now and Sunday matinees are usually busy.
black_lake@reddit
It's called brunch service. Downtown is also full of hotels that open for breakfast at 6am. And as someone who waited tables downtown for years it is actual hell trying to get to work that day.
metrorhymes@reddit
Plenty are open for brunch by 10. Staff in at 8:30 so yeah, it's a huge pain in the ass
Agile-Ad9399@reddit
Most of us that run immediately go out to brunch to celebrate lol
These_Ad8237@reddit
yeah it’s annoying af
rockandrolljoel33@reddit
Thanks for the reminder! I’ll be watching from my patio. At least it’s not supposed to be freezing cold for them this year
GeneralHipsterTrash@reddit
The year it was 70 degrees the whole time was brutal, the cold is welcome.
badcommentguy13@reddit
The colder the better :)
Bonzoid_evermore77@reddit
Also note Garland Rd around St Francis continuing east is under construction for sewer mains anyway. Avoid this area for the remainder of the holiday!!! It’s already awful.
Clickclickdoh@reddit
You should be able to exit the loop by using 75 to get out the north or south end.
CubedMeatAtrocity@reddit (OP)
If you’re inside the loop that isn’t happening. If you’re outside the loop, you can’t get in aside from bike or by foot.
Pabi_tx@reddit
They're shutting down Central Expressway for several hours?
DonkeeJote@reddit
#Doubt
Clickclickdoh@reddit
The road closure plan says otherwise:

CubedMeatAtrocity@reddit (OP)
I do hope you’re right. It’d be better for everyone.
DonkeeJote@reddit
You can cross the line... on foot.
BackhandWillie@reddit
Good looking out. I'm out of the zone, but have changed my plans for tomorrow. Thank you very much.
screamingfrommyeyes@reddit
I am always so disappointed in the way people comment about this event in this sub.
it's a few hours of closures, brings in money for a literal children's hospital, and the vibe is usually really really good with the crowd and spectators
we close roads all the time for a myriad of other reasons and the dart still runs so you can move around if you need to.
clothkili@reddit
I get that. One of my coworkers is running and we’re all super excited for them but as someone who has to work in the loop that day it is a nightmare and the people who choose to come don’t take into account that A. they chose to do so and B. we, the employees, did not.
black_lake@reddit
I wish there was more consideration for the race by the businesses that are open that day. As some one who worked in the restaurant industry and retail there being a "it's business as usual, figure it out" mentality bosses have to employees is the bigger issue.
And honestly, this one has the decency to warn people, unlike the hot chocolate run that just pops up with zero warning, closing off streets.
clothkili@reddit
If you or anyone you know have plans in the arts district on Sunday just remember that no one working there wants to be there and to have patience with them. The marathon was a NIGHTMARE for theater productions in the area last year.
_TakeMyUpvote_@reddit
so happy this isn't starting/ending in fair park. that puts the loop around more east dallas neighborhoods. this setup kinda screws people downtown, but at least most people can use the freeway to get in/out of the loop.
Traditional-Ant-9741@reddit
Fuck the entitled pricks that mess up the city to run their little vanity race. Go back to Plano assholes
CubedMeatAtrocity@reddit (OP)
All flavors of people run marathons. It’s been held annually for 43 years. Quit your griping and go watch it. It’ll be fun for you.
These_Ad8237@reddit
watching people run around isint “fun” this inconveniences thousands of people who need to work to feed families. sorry i don’t have the privilege to waste a sunday trying to get to work.
CubedMeatAtrocity@reddit (OP)
It is fun. You should try it. Also, thousands of people are running the race.
These_Ad8237@reddit
that means thousands of idiots
CubedMeatAtrocity@reddit (OP)
I’m sorry you’re so angry with the world.
These_Ad8237@reddit
idkfc if u boo i’ve seen what makes you cheer
jevus2006@reddit
But I live Dallas proper...
DJGreenMan@reddit
You should try running, it’s a great stress reliever and a much better outlet than trolling the Internet with manufactured hate
Vegetable_Cabinet_92@reddit
Someone’s bitter
These_Ad8237@reddit
i agree 100% this now being a major city makes this even worse. like traffic isint bad to begin with!!!!
Agile-Ad9399@reddit
Races happen in all big cities bud
SentimentalSaladBowl@reddit
I lived inside the circle of that run for years, and getting to work those days was crying hours.
I will say that even though ACAB, they did used to wait for a break in the runners and let me pass through most years if I stayed in the car, was polite and cried about it. lol.
CubedMeatAtrocity@reddit (OP)
Same here. But that’s no more. They can’t afford the extra police funding so now the streets are barricaded … all of them.
DJGreenMan@reddit
Who can’t afford the extra police funding, the city? The city helps 0% with the race; all cops working the race are paid overtime by the racing organization. That’s part of why the race is so expensive because the city doesn’t help with anything
CubedMeatAtrocity@reddit (OP)
Sorry. Let me clarify that the race itself can’t afford the extra off duty police presence. I can see how my post was confusing.
dallasuptowner@reddit
If I drive a BMW I still get to cross the line, right? That is my understanding of traffic laws.
erod100@reddit
On this day many ppl lose patience because they can’t cross or get through East Dallas area 😂
soggyballsack@reddit
Looks like you can still run through 75 if you want to get in or out of the circle. Maybe not all exits are closed.
Motor_Ad8313@reddit
Don’t be dicks when an officer tell you the road is blocked off! To turn around! 👮♂️👮♂️👮♀️👮♀️👮👮
NoCelebration1320@reddit
The BMW event is the 13th-15th. The race day is the actually Saturday the 14th.
mwana@reddit
1k, 5k and 10k are Sat. Marathons are Sun.
mmuffinnss@reddit
1 mile run is actually on Friday but it should only affect to part of young st/akard plaza (I’m guessing from 7-ish pm to 9-ish pm)
CubedMeatAtrocity@reddit (OP)
This. Marathon day in the states is traditionally on a Sunday.
sharknado523@reddit
I do Uber part-time. I usually drive Saturday night into Sunday morning at about 7:00 a.m. then I go home and go to sleep and I'm back on the road around 6:00 p.m. am I going to have to worry about this Marathon at all? It looks like the marathon is on Sunday so I'm guessing I'll miss most of it.
mmuffinnss@reddit
The last street to reopen on Sunday will be at 3:45pm. You should be ok
Intrepid-Dirt-830@reddit
I live in the path of the race, they usually don't close the roads until the morning
sharknado523@reddit
I'm more concerned about driving Sunday night, how long do marathons take?
Intrepid-Dirt-830@reddit
It'll be over by the time you start
sharknado523@reddit
Thank you I appreciate your help and experience
Tuesday2017@reddit
The race starts Sunday at 8a from City Hall with the time limit for the longest run being the ultra at 6.5hrs. All of the runners 30,000+ and many spectators will be going to City Hall around 7a or earlier. Obviously some roads near there will be blocked. Further out I would believe they'll let cars pass. There will be many runners on the part of the course that goes over I75 by 830a on.
sharknado523@reddit
Got it, I usually wrap up in the city between 6:30 and 7:00 and then I start making my way North to Richardson where I live, so maybe there will be one or two points where I have to go the long way around something but for the most part it shouldn't be hard. And yeah as others have pointed out by the time I wake up and have a mid-afternoon breakfast before going out at night for a few hours, it sounds like the marathon will be mostly over. So, like the last time there was an event like this, I may end up with some smelly passengers, but overall nothing too onerous.
BlackStarCorona@reddit
This always sucked when I lived downtown. Basically I was stuck at home half the day and I always forgot it was happening.
RedOverLord7@reddit
Wonderful. 🙄
The-Riddim-God@reddit
Damn thanks for the heads up. I live right on the path
