What kind of mother abandons her baby so easily? Xena didn't abandon her child, Livia/Eve, don't see why Gabrielle shouldn't give her child a chance at redemption.
I believe she truly never paid any attention to it cuz I think actors after they act on their shows, they don't necessarily watch them. Just like how Cooks don't eat their own food or rappers don't listen to their own music.
"Xena's recruiting." Ah hah! The "Agenda" was real. She admitted. I knew it.
But no seriously even xorny 12 year old boys could see Xena and Gabby were more than "work friends". Lesbian characters weren't as oppressed as people like to make it seem at this point in media history. I can think of two films in black cinema alone that pre-dates Xena with prominent lesbian characters or themes (higher learning and she's got to have it). What's the female equivalent to "xxxx-teasing"? Well whatever that word is, that is what was going on with this show. They were only teasing fans much like SVU does with Elliot and Olivia with the "Will They, Won't They." The Puritans in America have had a long and complicated (finger quotes in the air) with lesbian characters/themes. Incest is bad buuuuut if it's two hot twins it's completely okay for a beer commercial on network television during daytime. It was okay but only as long as it was for male heterosexual consumption. It was the "other stuff" they had a problem with.
I saw Xena more as female power fantasy character than a LGBT pioneer. I loved this show none the less despite the politics. I'm more amused Lucy is feigning forgetfulness but Renee has that "But *I* remember" expression on her face while nodding in agreement with her. The eyes don't lie girl. Shoot your shot Lucy.
Lucy has admitted she forgot a lot of these intimate moments during filming. She even quote on quote, regrettably forgot she had 6 years working and kissing Kevin Smith, but she couldnt remember because they were work lol. I'm sure this is similar for her.
Is this show worth revisiting? I remember being uninterested when it was on because I didn't think it was for me but it looks like it may be the leggy fantasy adventure of the week time waster for me to get into alongside Supernatural.
I was watching this as a kid with my mom. I think it helped me a lot because I've never been intimidated by a strong woman. I would rather fight by their side in bloody conquest.
I don't know, kissing either of those gotta be pretty memorable, particularly if there was tongue involved too. Unless it was always involved when they kissed... I wonder how many takes they had to make, how much they practiced for it...
Actors have to remember lines, their action, and react with coordination to their costarr's acting. I'm sure after all those micro steps of this and that this and that, they'll forget quite a lot of what they did during those hours. And tbh, I don't even remember all the kisses I've made with my ex!!
I am so, so grateful they did these commentaries, and especially that they filmed them and didn't just record the audio. I love their dynamic and they're so on point with this scene. It's WILD. At her wedding!? XD
I bet they're like the rest of us, forced to play the characters safe, revisiting 10 years later when gay rights was more accepted and suddenly everything is so obvious 😂😂
This commentary is from the early aughts isn’t it? It’s so interesting to see them accepting and coming to terms with the lesbian subtext in a time when playing gay characters could cost someone their career. Before gay marriage was recognized under federal US law! I love their genuine reactions here, mildly embarrassed and bemused, which ultimately developed into a strong LGBTQ+ allyship in defense of their fan base imo

That scene always broke my wretched heart, seeing Xena with the bouquet with the altar behind her.
That was me once.
Fuck. Damn.
Wise_Airport5655@reddit
Yes, I was sad for Xena, but when Pérdigas died, I was super happy. You could see that Xena was more "calm" with Pérdigas' death. Type:
Fried_0nion_Rings@reddit
The writers wanted to write them a romance subplot but it kept getting shot down. I would have loved it.
Wonderful-Soup-8685@reddit
I always thought their relationship was cringe when they got too close romantically. I think it was Season 3 that was a whole cringe fest
Fried_0nion_Rings@reddit
And that’s with the writers getting shot down because they thought having a gay romance wouldn’t go over well with the audience.
Imagine if they didn’t get their ideas rejected.
But I shipped them personally and was sad they didn’t end up together.
Wonderful-Soup-8685@reddit
I'm the other side of that completely. I think Xena is way too good for Gabrielle.
Fried_0nion_Rings@reddit
You’re free to think that o(╥﹏╥)o but Gabrielle was a loyal companion
Wonderful-Soup-8685@reddit
Like the time she didn't listen to Xena and sided with her demon baby who ended up killing Xena's son?
Latte-Catte@reddit

Wonderful-Soup-8685@reddit
Maybe because it's not a child, it was a demon
Latte-Catte@reddit
Looks like a baby, acts like a baby, it's a baby until proven otherwise.
Fried_0nion_Rings@reddit
You bring up some very interesting points. But.. we all make mistakes…. ( ⚆ _ ⚆ )
Wonderful-Soup-8685@reddit
Lol I'm just a Gabrielle hater because I'm jealous it wasn't me adventuring by her side
Latte-Catte@reddit
Honestly same, I love Gabby, but I'd still fight for that position fr
Fried_0nion_Rings@reddit
That’s very understandable. Who wouldn’t wanna be xena’s sidekick? 🤣
ArchonFett@reddit
Gabrielle literally fixed her
Wonderful-Soup-8685@reddit
Maybe out of an example of how not to act. Gabrielle is not the reason Xena isn't a tyrant anymore. She started that before she met Gabrielle.
Gabrielle in season 1 is actually a good human being but Season 2 and on she gets worse and worse

She was fun in Spartacus too. Although a bit more “exposed” shall we say than she ever was in Xena.
