As I grow older I feel that I am more content with suboptimal arrangements

My work laptop is a Thinkpad X1 carbon and it was running super slow so I took my $5K gaming computer (core i9, RTX 4090) and re imaged it to run Win 11 Pro and my work workloads (VS 2022, etc). I feel as I grow older I am content with less. Instead of the 190GB MacStudio ($10K) I just bought a $1.2K mac mini m4 pro. Instead of another RTX 4090 gaming PC I just bought an ROG Ally X and decided I am fine with 1080p gaming and I wont be chasing after the 4K gaming dream. Does everyone else feel the same? Honestly my old eyes can barely see the difference between 1080p and 4K. I used to play PS2 games like GTA San Andreas or PS3 games like GTA V so FHD is good enough for me. Can anyone relate?

My adult son has finally broke me after 3 years of “I’m buying you a new computer” “how can you work like this, it’s so slow”. So I bought a new PC last week with his guidance. Already losing sleep over the terror of how I’m going to transfer quickbooks and adobe to a new computer without losing all my work. I’m over my head. Computer arrives next week.

Yes, I don't even use computers other than at work, I have settled for just a smart phone. Before I couldn't imagine living without a fast computer, I used to build my own, because store built computers just didn't have the speed I was looking for, now I can't imagine wanting another computer.

I do some work at home on my company laptop, and use it on a docking station at work. I’ve spent nearly half my life sitting at a desk in front of a computer. I don’t care if I never build or buy another computer for home personal use. Even for gaming, I prefer a comfy couch with a single purpose console to hot-rodding a PC just to sit at a desk for 3 or 4 more hours a couple nights a week.

My personal laptop is a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 from like 2014. My "gaming" pc is an old retired model from my wife's workplace they were getting rid of and I took two of them. The video card is like a GTX670 or something ancient like that. My phone is two years old with a cracked screen. My wife's phone is five or six years old.

A $5k laptop is anything but suboptimal. I run an old machine from 2017 which currently runs on sheer adrenaline and generous amounts of duct tape.

That's my mid 2010 MBP. Weak battery and a cracked screen but it refuses to die. Now it's so old I can't do taxes or some banking stuff due to not having current security certifications. But for what I use it for it still works. I always bought the highest tier of MBP but now have been looking for a new laptop and a m1/M2 MacBook Air will absolutely do everything I need. I also used to build a new desktop PC every year and now I only do when something fails and needs to be replaced. I also don't game or use CAD/3d modeling like I used to 10+ years ago.

I grew up watching VHS and trying to catch a glimpse of a nipple through snow, so I've never really been a pixel peeper. 1440 works just fine for me. My Plex server is 99% DVD rips that I own, and they look just fine on my 4k TV.
