Seems a lot more restrained than I was expecting. Although that front end reminds me a lot of the Nissan Kicks.
9 seats is pretty nice though. Some three-rows force you into 6 seat configurations now, so 9 is a welcome upgrade.
No 9 seats for USA/Canada. No swivel seats in 2nd row, no digital side mirrors. Road safety laws. Also no light brown interior either - now this one is no hyundai marketing.
How do you know all of this specifically? Do you work with Hyundai? If so, will the massaging rear seats becoming and will we be getting the 2.5T like korea or 3.5t.
I'm in Australia and not a few people that own the Hyundai parasite, 2025 model.I personallthink, the 2025 model is more handsome is more good looking than the 2026 model. That's about to come out
But like the Palisade and telluride has only had one engine option since they came out and neither the 2.0 or 2.4 they all have NA V6 3.8s that don't seem to be of trouble. Started production in 2018 for MY 2020 and this will be the first full overhaul to the nameplate rumor of the 2.5 and hybrids. So might in the future put a bad motor in it but haven't yet.
I was just saying, the telluride and the palisade with the 3.8 (not 3.6 I forgot the displacement) have never been an issue. Looks like they’re going away from the V6 here though. Should be interesting.
well, if that guy did even the shortest amount of looking, he would quickly learn they all come with the V6 and never had other options on the telluride/pallisade.
but why do that when you can make a karma-fishing comment?
JFC, that engine has always been reliable. It's like people are too lazy and incompetent to search which engines actually had issues and which were good.
The 2.5t is a newer engine is it not? I know the 2.0 and 2.4's have a lot of oil issues and grenade themselves. I had a 2022 Elantra that literally lasted 1000 miles, not even the first oil change before it blew up. Dealer/Hyundai bought it back from me.
My lawyer talked to the lawyer of the dealership, it was resolved in a day. My car was at their shop, and they were trying to say I had abused the car - no warranty.
Hyundai is weird. They go through a stage of screwing over the original owner at lower miles, get a bad reputation, then second owners get screwed, and finally they admit a problem. Then you have a class action lawsuit and either get reimbursed if you didn't tune it or mess with the engine, and get some money for repairs paid back, and some extended warranty. My veloster and bil's gt elantra has gone through this. I think he has a 15 year 150k mile warranty now on the engine after it was found the default tune would ignore misfires too much killing the engine for some, software update given, etc. Now his insurance is horrible from the thefts and mine oddly hasn't changed much.
Yeah insurance largely depends on ur location. Not every area in the US is a shithole like milwaukee where car theft among other crimes is a common occurrence.
I sorta was hoping mine would get stolen since the payment until like next month is $3k plus insurance payout. Paint is failing on all the plastic pieces to dust and not a great car for a large city where everyone runs lights (2600lbs vs 7000lb truck going 45mph). I think his got flagged for high theft since "elantra" where the veloster turbo original sold in such low numbers they don't care. We have more theft when driver/keys are at car at gas stations or high end theft using can bus theft through fog lights. Nobody is going to steal a 130hp white elantra gt, america already hates wagons enough.
"current model year Kia"
"Hasn't died yet"
Do you guys understand what reliability means? The jury is still out on Ford 7.3s (gas) and those have been out for like 7 years.
It's always funny when I see people reply to reliability questions with their own personal experience that theirs are at 65k and no issues. I expect most of not all cars to last the warranty period. So their anecdotal experience means zero. Reliability is that 100k-200k region imo.
But by the time a statistically significant number of vehicles hit 100k miles, that model is out of production and what is on sale is 1-2 generations newer.
Here's an anecdote, my buddies Hyundai Tucson blew the engine up while he was on a camping trip really far into Maine. I think it was right around 65k miles. Imagine how fun that was for him!
Turbo going at 17k is surprising. Haven’t seen that in the VN community at all.
My VN is sitting at 65k with zero issues. Lot of track abuse. HPFP is under a recall though so I should probably take it in.
Not to get in the way of anything here, but those are two components that Hyundai doesn't make or get any say in how they're made. They're standard purchased commodities, unless they were damaged during assembly, you had the same chances of failure from any OEM who uses them.
OEMs have a LOT of involvement in their tier 1 suppliers, to the extent of sometimes funding the factories and assembly lines, designing the parts and revisions, shepherding the entire supply chain, etc. Sure it may say Denso on the box, but there are a lot of polo shirts with Toyota printed on them at every step behind the scenes.
Hyundai would make calls like 'hey, lets accept these out-of-spec bearings, and maybe loosen the tolerance a bit, so we can all save a couple bucks'
They absolutely have a ton of say, but not really on those, it would cost more for the supplier to make a non-standard version. They already sell variations of families of parts. What usually happens in fuel pumps is just undersizing it for the application because you copy and pasted a BOM without doing the homework
I already replied to the other guy that Hyundai has been using the same hybrid engine and 6-speed automatic transmission in my Santa Fe for a while now. As far as I've seen there haven't been any major issues with that drivetrain in older vehicles.
They've been using 1.6-litre hybrid engine with the six-speed automatic for a little while now in other vehicles. I haven't heard of any major issues.
The gas version of the 2024 Santa Fe had problems with the DCT but it's a totally different transmission in the hybrids.
No, I didn’t. I intentionally omitted that.
1) Of all 30? 50?+ variants of the LS over the past 27 years, only one was transverse - the LS4. That one variant was in four different special high trim sedans for 5 model years. Compared to the regular LS in pretty It has significant design differences compared to every other LS so they could shoehorn it into FWD platforms. As a result, some common accessories and mods for the LS don’t fit the LS4.
2) In longitudinal form, the LS is very narrow and short due to the pushrod configuration. Depth doesn’t matter as much here. This means it can fit in a lot of the longitudinal car and truck platforms out there, often with room to spare. But in transverse form, depth becomes width, and suddenly your engine bay in your FWD platform might not be wide enough.
3) The LS4 “only” makes 303hp in stock form. That’s 12 more than the ‘26 Palisade. Somewhat of a moot point, since you’d probably be modifying that LS… with whatever limited selection of cams exists for it.
4) You’d have a lot more fab work to do an LS4 swap in an FWD car compared to the standard “LS swap” in an RWD car. You’d likely need custom CVs, engine/trans mounts, etc, etc.
5) You’re “stuck” with an FWD car at the end of all this. I personally prefer RWD or rear-biased AWD, over FWD. Some people love FWD, I’m not gonna knock that.
But if someone tells me “you have to put an LS in a Palisade,” I’m not spending time and creating a headache for a 12 hp gain in an LS4. I’m grabbing a Sawzall, cutting a massive hole in that firewall, and putting a longitudinal engine in. I’d probably have cut up and welded 75% of a new floor by the time the engine, transmission, and diff are in.
Hyundai needs to send JLR a check for the constant copy of their designs lol but I like it for the most part!
Regardless, glad that another hybrid option is the segment will be available and from the looks of it, the interior is miles ahead of the others.
I immediately thought of Range Rover when I saw the pics of the side and rear. Not a fan of the front, but as a fan of previous gen JLR designs, I like the rest. I wonder how the front looks in person.
The problem is as usual in details: many options won't come to USA. No swiveling seats, no digital side mirrors, not even that yammy light brown interior that looks so good. We'll again as usual will get boring all black or all white interior. proper interior color and interesting options can make it or break it this SUV.
Ok, i own a 24 calligraphy as my daily with beige interior. The ride is amazing. I thought the upcoming one was going to be larger, full size suv, similar to a Chevy Tahoe but looking at the dimensions, it is not. In fact, the dimensions alone are smaller than my wife’s Chevy Traverse. I am little disappointed with the size of the vehicle.
I love that the centre screen is integrated into the dash and isn’t another “tablet that’s glued to the dash” design. The floating screen has never looked good, in my opinion and I’m glad Hyundai put the screen where it belongs
https://images.hgmsites.net/lrg/2026-hyundai-palisade-korea-spec_100951665_l.webp
That’s integrated. It has dashboard above the screen. Look at a new Tacoma as a comparison.
Thanks for the thoughtful reply. 2 of 3 Fords are still very much on the roads and sought after. Heck the escape has the boxy look that’s back in style that garbage Hyundai is cranking out. The fusions are still everywhere and excellent vehicles. The ugly duckling by today’s standards… the Taurus sold very well in its day. Maybe not the most attractive but that platform saved ford and many people had those in their families. And mine will outlive anything Hyundai is putting out nowadays. 20 years old and on the road. Won’t see that from Hyundai or Kia.
And the Toyota… they can’t even build enough to satisfy demand. While the Hyundai tanks in value, at 2 years old my Toyota is worth just about what I paid.
Ford Flex disagrees with you. And also if you haven't noticed boxy is slowly getting out of style. It's so 2018. We are slowly transitioning into more sharper design.
That’s one car lol and that was what made it stand out so much.
Almost every recent redesign for major CUVs features a boxier design than the previous gen. Newer vehicles are boxier too. Explorer, Santa Fe, Sequoia, Pathfinder, CX50 (to stand out against the similarly sized but swoopier cx-5), GX, Bronco/Bronco Sport (now outselling the more hatch looking escape)… the list goes on and on
Flex was ugly nto only on outside, but more importantly inside. I'm actually ok with Flex outside design. It's lack of options and fuel economy and hybrid tech and ugly dated interior design that killed Flex. Hyundai Palisade did it right from the beginning. Beatiful SUV inside out AND a much better options and tech. Ford is a crap brand to begin with, so there was never a chance anyway.
Fight me 1v1 no scope
But yeah the early ones were kinda dumpy and even in later years, the lower trims were pretty barebones
But damn if it isn't practical. I fit a lazyboy recliner and glass shower doors inside just fine.
One brand has to make something weird first and suffer the slings and arrows before it becomes normalized by other brands years later. E.g.: Pontiac Aztek (mid-size CUVs with a Kammback shape), Honda Ridgeline (CUV pickups), Ford Flex (boxy CUVs).
Until there is more confidence in reliability I can’t see myself getting into one of these vehicles.
Grandfather, mother, grandmother, cousin, and friend all have recent (last 5 or so year) models and have had nothing but issues. Both sedan and SUV, 4 and 6 cylinder. I know it’s anecdotal but the same sentiment seems to be echoed on Reddit so it can’t just be people in my circle.
I got damn near 200k miles out of my bmw until I traded it in a few months ago, 0 issues until the week I got rid of it when it started showing signs of compression loss. N26 paired with the zf transmission fares pretty well (RIP n20 users tho). BMW has come a far way on reliability, especially with their b58 platform.
I won’t comment on the Tesla since it’s a new purchase and too soon to say, but in comparison anecdotally i know too many people with lemons from Kia and Hyundai.
V2L will be available on the hybrid model! It would reportedly have 2.5 kWh pack which would be large enough to provide all your electricity needs for camping and emergency situations for your houses. This new update sounds so attractive!
I’m excited to see the Telluride version! Kia for some reason always has the better designs of the two, imo!
I’m not sure if these can shake up the segment like the initial releases did but hopefully it urges Honda to release a Hybrid Pilot.
Shake up is an understatement.
*Everyone* and their mom was eating up the telluride when it came out.
I ain't even talking car reviewers, which yes, were absolutely smitten with it. But I'm talking the average joe. People would literally walk up to telluride owners at the gas station and be like "nice car!"
If they can repeat that success they will surely dominate the segment.
Telly still crushing it in sales too. But that initial model had like a 2 year waitlist for the SXP with insane dealer markups ($10K for some). Crazy but the car was 80% of an X7 for 50% the cost
drove my Telluride SX for 5 years & 65K miles and traded it in for about $15k less than I paid, which is fantastic value. Loved how it drove, averaged 30mpg on the Highway and it never had to get serviced...I am looking forward to seeing how the next GEN looks!
He just doesn't like Hyundai like most of the smoothbrains here. They can't give you an actual reason just Korean car bad BRRRRRR.
Pretty much every car is going to last far longer than you will ever keep it.
I bought a 2014 KIA Optima in 2017 with 35,000 miles and put on 150,000 miles from then until December 2023.
Only thing that needed to be done other than the maintenance was replacing suspension components which was covered under the warranty when they had to be done(85,000 miles). Other than that it was the perfect little car.
I helped a friend change their oil on a 2018 Optima and had only 1.5 qts come out. Never seen a motor burn through so much oil in less than 5k miles from the last oil change, it would put rotary motors to shame
I called every dealership in New England at the time and found exactly 1 that sold for MSRP with one arriving in a week. I jumped on that and have been happy for the past 5ish years
Whatever that means? Back in 2019 the telluride inside and out was very slick. The interior was especially fantastic, and still is.
The car and driver [article about it](https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a29411864/2020-kia-telluride-reliability-maintenance/) compared it to a range Rover multiple times and made it clear the car was punching well above its weight in quality and execution.
Although 1st Gen Telluride kinda had both in terms of design. But actually features Hyundai won't with a massaging drivers seat, heated and powered third row and some other minor differences
As long as the cars have even a slight upgrade and maintain the quality that's on par with the outgoing models, I think they will continue to do well. They did well with the 1st generation when no one knew about them. Now those models have loyal followings and have good reputation as being top contenders in their respective segment.
Does Honda have a hybrid system they can apply to the Pilot? The LF setup used in their current hybrids won't cut it in something the size of the Pilot.
Uhh based on the latest [video](https://www.instagram.com/reel/DDRfSYeTckH/?igsh=a2Vwd3FqdjRpN3Bz) I saw on IG, the width of the tyre make the car looks disproportionate from behind because of its boxy design
I see Hyundai is hopping on the Haptic Touch bandwagon which is a big negative for me. The rest of the interior looks great, it's lifted off Land Rover after all LOL.
The exterior I feel mixed about. Overall shape and proportion etc look good. I think it would have been a knock out if they didn't use such weird headlight and taillight design. I like the grill design which is not the case on most current Hyundai\\Kia models.
Overall a big improvement over the current Palisade though. The current generation doesn't do it for me. (ugly)
The center buttons are mostly physical buttons, if they are like the ones on the newest Tucson Hybrid (which they appear to resemble). The refresh removed most of the haptic touch buttons.
And? It's stationary and never changes. Buttons would be better but this implementation isn't bad at all. Most people leave it in auto and never have to change. You can also use voice controls which works well.
Any way you slice it this is better then what VW, Porsche, Audi, Benz, and BMW are doing lol. Every single one have eliminated almost all buttons/knobs in their latest models.
Lots of manufacturers are reversing haptic touch. Generally it sucks because you have to look down at what you're touching more closely than buttons and looks like crap after a bit because they get all scratched up and dirty. It's shiny black plastic.
completely agree. But I think it's an okay compromise I'm willing to make considering I drive a Tesla half the time haha. The other car I drive is a Camaro and it has excellent physical climate controls.
what? Interior is not remotely close to the range rover. Some differences:
Range: separate gauge cluster and center 14 screen, drive selector on center console,
Palisades: one piece gauge and infotainment screen, drive selector in the steering column.
One thing that strikes me about newer Hyundais is that they all look different and don’t have a definitive design language. Unless you care about the brand’s identity, which I guess typical Hyundai clientele don’t care about, it’s not a bad thing honestly, the entire Hyundai lineup doesn’t look like a copy-paste of each other.
Yep, me too. I like fresh designs for the next gen; sure it's a hit or miss. I think the brand design language argument is code word for cheap and saving money. Auto markers don't want to spend so many resources redoing designs all the time so they make a S,M,L version of their cars.
BMWs and Benzs look alike from the small to large.
yep. my friend bought an s550 and he said a few people have mentioned, "oh, my \_\_\_\_\_\_\_ has that car too" and the car they're thinking about is a freakin C class lmao.
Was shocked by the lack of quality of a new s class at the vet today, everything plastic on the exterior looked so cheap, just to realize it was an e-class. Statement still stands though
yes, definitely the e class too. you'd have to break out the tape measure to or reallly know a lot about the different models to tell. And I'm sure they have a reason. I think an exec prob convinced everybody that they have to do the opposite of what BMW is doing. That it's classier to have a more unified design language. And I can kinda see the point but back in the day a compact was actually compact and the full size was clearly larger without a side by side comparison. I know it's different now due to safety regs and marketing. idk, must be hard designing cars. You think you have a good design then everybody shits on it for not looking like your brand.
They sorta do but they don't update everything at the same time which makes it look all patchwork.
Tucson got update to a new design which then the Kona followed in 2023. Sante Fe and Palisade both got different designs and Hyundai will wind up copying one of those for updated Tuscon and Kona in several years. Sonata gets updated first and then the Elantra a few years behind that so right so we'll probably get the updated Sonta matching Elantra in 25/26.
On one hand it makes them look really unique but it's also annoying as a customer if you like certain designs and don't like others. My girlfriend is looking at getting a new car and she wants a small sedan. She can't stand the current Elantra but likes the previous one and the current Sonata but does not want to wait another year or two for a new car so she's currently looking at the Kia K4 GT instead.
They seem to be starting to make their designs in pairs. The new Kona and the new Sonata have a similar look. The new Palisade and the new Santa Fe are kind of similar, although the Palisade takes what the Santa Fe was doing and turns it up to 11. Then there's the Tucson and the Santa Cruz, and the Ioniq 5 and N Vision 74 (although nobody knows if the 74 will ever be produced... Hopefully it will be but not as a hydrogen hybrid).
When they redesign the Elantra they'll probably fit it in with the Kona and Sonata with the light bar. It's a nice, simple looking design which is unique to them. That said, it might end up being easy to confuse the Elantra with the Sonata if they do that.
They'd never and haven't done that in a LONG time. Hyundai and KIAs main strategy was do what GM does but better and they've been acing it. They'd never do that strategy in modern times where they sell both vehicles in the same market. Maybe cheap cars yes. But expensive cars? Never.
Personally I enjoy the dct over their other transmission. I’ve gotten a few loaners when I’ve gotten oil changes of the regular transmission and it felt clunky to me. I have 2 of their dct and haven’t had any issues
I’m not talking about the performance of the DCT, I have one also and as far as automatics go, I find it far superior to a traditional auto. I’m talking about the fact that it seemingly was not designed for the added weight of the Santa Fe, or something in its construction, to where it specifically is having quite a few documented failures.
Oh I love that Hyundai is not doing boring designs, some they hit and some are misses.
In person the Santa fe looks like a minivan. Skinny wheels, lower to the ground than I expected...for reference (kia carnival has 6.8 inches ground clearance and the base santafe is 7 inches). Those are the main things that make it look ugly to me. I bet if I saw an XRT trim I would like it.
I know you’re right, but I simply do not understand the thought process. The idea of trading in a vehicle that isn’t paid off turns my stomach, let alone doing it with one you’re upside down on.

Would it? I always thought lease payments were generally less than you'd pay on a 5 year note. If you're going to have a consistent 60 month payment schedule that you keep re-upping every 3 years I'd think a lease works out cheaper?
Leases are almost always cheaper. But some people can't lease due to mileage limits.
You can get some blowout lease deals where it's like a 10 year payoff equivalent.
Life can come at you fast. Had a small car with a lot of equity before kids, then got hit with twins. Still had a few years before payoff, but turned that equity into a nice down payment on a new 2025 Santa Fe Hybrid.
well you did it right. some people tho... like dawg... you shouldn't be trading it in because now you're paying them to take the car... which is stupid.
I can understand if you’re positive on it - it’ll act as a down payment at least. If you’re negative on it, you need to reevaluate your life but if you’re at that point, then they probably lack the necessary discipline or intelligence to do that.
> The idea of trading in a vehicle that isn’t paid off turns my stomach
well that's silly
> let alone doing it with one you’re upside down on.
completely agree
I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt, but after seeing it in person I'm off the design, it just doesn't do it for me.
I have a feeling I'm gonna feel the same way about the new Palisade
Someone at my office has one, and I admittedly can't stand it. It looks like a cubicle office on wheels. I find the design to be really unimpressive and "minimalist" to the point of having no character or presence.
I liked the Santa Fe in pictures but after seeing them in person, I just can't get behind the weird ass rear. I think it would look so much better if they did the rear taillights that go across the whole hatch instead of that awkward wishbone-looking shape
the front is rad though
The upcoming one seems to be stepping up the game even further. I have a 2024 calligraphy with beige interior. Phenomenal vehicle for the price. I can comfortably fit 4 adults and a 75 lbs lab with cargo no problem. I used to own Cadillacs and Audis. People tend to forget that Hyundai has been around for a long time, way longer than brands like Tesla and Rivian. Totally recommend for big families!
That's...exactly how they did it. 3+3+3 seating.
At one time, Honda even made a [10-seater CR-V](https://www.autoindustriya.com/editors-note/innovative-infamy-the-story-behind-that-10-seat-honda-cr-v.html) (3+4+3) in the Philippines to take advantage of lower taxes.
Just read the article, the middle console in first row can convert into a 3rd seat. Though I'm unclear/unsure whether this would be acceptable in the NorthAmerican markets for the crash safety requirements.
Airbags and crash safety. You already have two up front with multi stages. Adding an extra seat/configuration up front will change crash testing complexity rapidly.
Part of it was from cars downsizing in the '80s and '90s--it often meant the middle seat was squeezed down to [6" or less.](https://mercury.bid.cars/1-54000403/1988-Dodge-Aries-1B3BD46K1JC262639-8.jpg) Part of it was increased popularity of European or Japanese cars that typically only had 2 buckets and a console to begin with. Part of it is the higher emphasis on safety--the middle seat isn't covered by airbags and has never been tested.
> Part of it was increased popularity of European or Japanese cars that typically only had 2 buckets and a console to begin with.
Speaking of European and Japanese cars, ironically, the last cars I know of that had three seats in front were the Fiat Multipla and the Honda FRV.
we saw a guy driving with his younger daughter in the middle bench seat of an older F150 single cab, and my toddler almost shit her pants in excitement about the idea of sitting next to dad while driving
No way it's safe though right? I used to ride in the front of my dad's ranger with the airbag off and it was sick but theres's no way I would have survived a crash...
In the 1991 model, the middle passenger got a lap belt. In 2004 they added a shoulder belt, and in 2009 a headrest, even though they weren't required. I believe the Ram Classic was the last to have neither.
This looks like old chinese futuristic design. It’s trying tok hard and doesnt have any cohesiveness in it. The interior is really great though. I’d rather have the current gen design and the new gen interior

This is....not good looking and I suspect that it'll go in for an emergency refresh in a couple of years. Its retro and futuristic looking at the same time, but like cheap retro and cheap futuristic. I remember thinking the new Sante Fe was striking in pictures but looks so very awkward in person. This will probably be the same.
The interior looks great though.
3 rows of 3 seats?!
Wild to me that car companies managed to slowly convert SUVs into minivans, and are still able to talk fragile men into buying them
Hyundai sold 76,000 vehicles in the US in November alone, while Land Rover has sold 15,000 vehicle all year. They definitely don't want to be Land Rover.
15k units annually is what they sale in Range Rovers alone here in the U.S.
Your point still stands but Land Rover sales way more than 15k units annually.
For companies not making money on EVs, which is everyone, the big cars is where it's going to be at for the near to medium term. Margins on compact and standard sedans are going to be tiny and not worth it. 9x seats is cool. Gonna be interesting to see all the variations and competition in the larger SUV space.
I like the Land Rover looks. Not too busy like the Tucson or Kona. Has a very luxurious look to it. Boxy design is nice and done better than the Santa Fe.
