My Beltfed AR15 Project: The LIMA SIX
Posted by Forsaken-Fix-5870@reddit | Firearms | View on Reddit | 81 comments
I posted some information about this project in the NFA subreddit, but I also wanted to cross post here and share the progress of my AR15 belt fed upper project.
Since April this year I've been designing and building a beltfed upper receiver for AR15's. The goal was to make something actually affordable to regular people, and also make something simpler and more reliable than other options on the market.
This receiver is completely different than any other AR15 receiver in that its stretched about 3/4" longer giving the bolt carrier more travel. It will use shortened AR10 buffers to allow more room in the buffer tube for the travel. This will not only make stripping rounds from links more reliable, but it will make the gun much more controllable. Its inspired by the Stoner 63 or Ultimax which have "constant recoil", meaning the shooter will only feel a constant push in full auto rather than each individual shot. The heavier carrier in my design combined with the 3/4" additional travel should make a constant recoil AR15 a reality.
The feed mechanism is heavily inspired by the M249 saw, and uses several components from the M249 to function. The rest of the design is based on a standard AR15, and shares many components including the barrel, handguard, gas blocks and tubes. It will work with all AR15 triggers including forced reset, binary, etc.
I do have a sign-up on my website where you can get on a list to buy one, but I will not post the link without permission (although the website URL is extremely easy to guess knowing the product name is LIMA SIX).
At this point I have the first prototype about 90% complete and will be test firing soon.
I'm looking forward to getting feedback from you guys on this project!

That is fucking awesome, I hope to one day have something similar. For some reason beltfed have always tickled my fancy
VexterDexter@reddit
I saw the website before this post. Is it possible to implement a payment system? Although I am a blue collar worker, at 31.28/hr, There's no way I got 3k to drop.
lanekrieger94@reddit
My brother in christ, PLEASE, make one in 7.62x39, I'll be your first buyer. We need the American RPD
Prize_Dust_4942@reddit
With just a barrel swap It would work with 204 ruger, 6x45, 300 AAC, 277 wolverine and of course 5.56/.223, because they all use the same bolt face, and major cartridge diameter. Which is important for using the standard m27 links
Forsaken-Fix-5870@reddit (OP)
Since it takes AR15 barrels, you could install a 7.62x39 barrel. It would just be a matter of finding links with the right spacing to work with the feed mechanism, and probably swapping the feed tray. Its certainly possible.
Cane5oh@reddit
Would you have a way to change out barrels ? Is that in the design concept ?
Aggravating_Two_7504@reddit
Love and support ya idea and would love to test or purchase soon as available to do torture test and or promote sales and possible help with any modifications or alterations based on use in multiple combat and home defense situations different range uses etc.. that with my super saftey and or frt lowers would be dope.. I wonder if you could use the design you have and make it a dual feed like the overpriced not gonna say brand but they make the raptor and then their dual feed cr wtf ever model lol but to take belts or box mags would be ideal and would deff put you on top of the map and be a total game changer for responsible civis and broke as mfs because we buy to many guns ammo and accessories ... š lmfao.. dope though from what I'm seeing would live to test and do a 1k or 2k round challenge with her..won't take long either when 1500 rounds are slung a mi use just let me get a long ass belt and I'll run em through all in one shot.. even if it melts my fn barrel..Ā
MHI_Iowa_Territory@reddit
Are there any box mags that work with an AR15?
Forsaken-Fix-5870@reddit (OP)
Because it takes standard AR15 barrels, its not possible to work with both belts and mags because you would need 3 feed ramps on the barrel. So the Lima Six is belt feed only.
MHI_Iowa_Territory@reddit
Thank you for that answer, but let me clarify my question. Are there box mags that utilize the ar15 mag well to hold the box that allows the belt to feed up along the side into the top like on a saw. This isn't necessarily a specific question for your product but in general (although if you keep your mentioned price point I will 100 percent buy one)
Forsaken-Fix-5870@reddit (OP)
Oh! Yeah sorry, I will have adapters that hold m249 ammo boxes (100 and 200 round) in the mag well.
MHI_Iowa_Territory@reddit
Excellent. Any idea of timeline from development to production?
Forsaken-Fix-5870@reddit (OP)
Production starts in 6 months

Oh, and in regards to 3d printing. I'm with you: this is a design that wouldn't benefit very much from additive manufacturing. That said, I WOULD implore you to take a look at the various 3d printed belt links, and the possibility of including a pawl or whatever would be necessary to run those. They are CHEAP compared to any other option, and they are extremely accessible. You wouldn't even always feel compelled to pick them up or whatever. They have quite a few designs and loaders.Ā
Weird-Trip4388@reddit
No, right sub. It's just that for some inexplicable reason the firearms community has been absolutely taken over by guys whose favorite color.om a gun is hot pink, are sexually aroused by other men's feet OR find it absolutely hilarious that others are and play along, constantly use weird teenage girl lingo from the early 2000's like "shooti boi" "looooong boi, boi pussi etc....." (since the mid Aughts, the boi has been a term almost exclusively used by the lgbtqabc+ folk as term to denote a boy who.....isn't boylike. Again, as in "boi pussi" to refer to their ass holes.......) make giant ball sacks an integral part of their printed pistol frame, etc. a lot of the YouTube channels have this vibe that is just.....SOOOO strange. Like psr/ print shoot repeat.....he prances around, his guns are always bright feminine colors, he does that weird stick your ass way out and blow a kiss thing that woman mostly do constantly, and just generally acts REALLY gay. But he is straight. I don't know if it's some kind of massive psyop to take one of the few groups left with competent men that act like men and utilize firearms culture as a tool to turn them into weird feminine twerking boi pussi loving American men.....the prevailing attitude of people age up to ten years younger is that it's "just joooookes, come on. Oh, your one of those macho MACHO guys. Gotta act all MANLY all the time. Are you insecure? Do you feel the need to overcompensate for something? I'm not gay, I'm just very secure in my sexuality and I'm hyper open minded and intelligent that's why I paint my finger nails, prance around and twerk, carry pink or purple guns exclusively, and am furiously obsessed with the feet of other men, likely gooning the hours away looking at dude feet and guns......." ššš It's just amazing to me how effective that psychology is. If you take it a little further......"real men that are straight are confident enough in their masculinity to take a dick in the ass. What are you, insecure? You scared you might be gay? You must be scared you'd like it.....why else would you not do it? If your NOT gay, take a dick? Are you one of those uneducated macho macho types? Drive a big truck? Got a little dick so you overcompensate? No? Oh, so you'll take a dick then?"Ā WEIRD. There is all the sudden massive cross over between furries and gun guys, especially 3d printing gun guys. They are the WEIRDEST. (I have an ender 3 and I print....but they have made the 3d printing culture just SOOOO weird. It is infused with SO much weird gay or feminine energy. I would pay money to understand it.....I work with this guy that's about ten years younger than me at the Ford dealership (we both work in the garage, not sales vampires, lol). He is a straight, normal dude. Likes cars. Loves guns. We talk about guns all the time. He is a country boy, or at least, was, he was raised that way. He has a girlfriend of 6 years. Dudes 23. He has a MASSIVE American flag on his arm that is rainbow colored and one of the bars says "ally"......he also paints his nails, they are always painted. I tried to talk to him about it one day. I basically got the same answer and logic that the other ten million clown clones that do all this junk hold: HE is hyper unique. HE is very intelligent, advanced, evolved....not like all those primitive backwards uneducated red necks. He is DIFFERENT. HE likes Nirvana, is an ally to the lgbtq people (which is SOOO relevant to him, he got it tattooed on his arm.....'i am a straight man who is just VERY VERY enthusiastic about people who prefer sex with the same sex......' just seems like such an odd arbitrary thing to be so wildly enthusiastic about....but of course, that's because he ISNT. He simply wishes to be perceived as such because society has REPEATEDLY insisted to him that that is what decent kind advanced evolved educated unique open minded people do .) and paints his nails. Blah blah blah, you don't care, and I don't know why I arbitrarily started ranting. Sorry. Seems crazy to waste ten minutes and then delete it though. So...gonna post it. Lol.Ā
Themindfulcrow@reddit
No this is the correct sub it is just like the cat tax you must include your feet
Embarrassed-Step-849@reddit
We want to see them with a rind on em
Thunderbird_Anthares@reddit
its not about wanting to see them, youre playing with tradition here
HEADHUNTER675@reddit
Seems really nice, but a heavier barrel would be nice for a system that has a FRT or Super Safety for longer sustained fire. Also will the mag well still be an option to use? Because I can only imagine people carrying only a certain amount of belts and or boxes at a time.
TheDeflatedPenguin@reddit
I absolutely cannot wait to see this come into fruition. If you have the Mastercam or Inventor outlines, I'd love to see if I can help. I've been wanting to make something similar. Can't wait to see this on the market!Ā
EinGuy@reddit
So how is this functionally different than the Ares Shrike / Fightlite MCR? Cause it looks pretty dang close to the example I have, other than the longer upper receiver
Forsaken-Fix-5870@reddit (OP)
Its very similar to the MCR, I'd say its an MCR competetor. But here are the major differences:
-3/4" extra bolt carrier travel for reliability and controllability -Uses standard inexpensive AR15 barrels and handguards -Works with any AR15 stock unlike the MCR which has clearance issues with certain stocks (because of the charging handle) -Has dual ejectors for reliability and parts longevity -Available as a build kit to save cost and allow for customization -It will be significantly less expensive
Fickle-Assumption-52@reddit
Would love to have this product as soon as able for testing and personal fun! Definitely let me know when its available because im getting it! Thank you and keep the good work going
EinGuy@reddit
1) Good to hear on that front, I have issues with spring length / buffer length and the carrier impacting the received extension.
2) +/-, the quick change barrel is nice, but a fixed barrel is certainly cheaper
3) Minor issue, but nice to have
4) So bolts are not AR-15 compatible? or just a feature upgrade ala KAC / LMT's dual ejectors
5) Handy
6) Always a plus
Forsaken-Fix-5870@reddit (OP)
Yeah that reminds me, it will not be possible for the carrier to impact the lower receiver on my design. No need for spacers in the buffer tube, or worrying about your buffer shortening over time.
Plane_Worldliness_43@reddit
This is stupid cool. Because it uses regular AR barrels do you know if there is a āquick changeā ar barrel
S1eeperAgent@reddit
I know this is old, but where does one get the stuff/item?
Forsaken-Fix-5870@reddit (OP)
There is a wait list on my website, www.limasix.com

Any idea when these would be for sale?
Forsaken-Fix-5870@reddit (OP)
It will be this year

Very nice can't wait to see this run

It runs, check out my youtube channel https://youtube.com/@limasix
Slaterisk@reddit
Does this eject out the side or does it use the magwell as an ejection port?
Forsaken-Fix-5870@reddit (OP)
Right side eject
Gr8rSherman8r@reddit
Do you have any idea if it is similar to the Cryostructure Belt FED Upper/system?
Any idea what your price point is going to be?
Forsaken-Fix-5870@reddit (OP)
The Cryostructure belt fed was promised nearly a year ago and all I've seen is a partially machined receiver. No top cover, bolt, carrier, feed tray, barrel, etc. I would not hold my breath on that coming through.
I've been working on my design for 6 months and I'm already almost test firing. Receiver and top cover are done. Bolts are done. Firing pin, feed lever, and many small parts are done. I'm currently waiting bolt carriers, and need to finalize the feed tray geometry, and I will be firing.
Price point is not nailed down, but significantly less than the Fightlite MCR.
hruebsj3i6nunwp29@reddit
Once the project is up and going, any plans for a quick change barrel system?
Forsaken-Fix-5870@reddit (OP)
Yes, I plan to make a qd barrel version which will be a different receiver and probably handguard. When that comes out, you'll be able to upgrade your unit by swapping the receiver, since the rest of the parts are unchanged.
SovereignDevelopment@reddit
You should enter this into r/gunnitrust to get some more attention.
Jlaurie125@reddit
You missed out on calling it the Lig-Ma Six!
JackCooper_7274@reddit
No feet?
alternative5@reddit
Holy shit this is awesome.
Dave_A_Computer@reddit
Pretty rad my dude, nice work.
I'd like to see a mating handguard as well if you're able to offer one. Would retain the same HOB for the length of the railed section, and allow low-profile irons to be utilized. It'd also make it look cleaner & meaner.
Forsaken-Fix-5870@reddit (OP)
Yeah, I plan to make a QD barrel version in the future which will probably include a custom matching handguard. When that comes out you'll be able to swap the receiver for the QD version. In the meantime, most standard quad rail hardguards work well, and you can mount a front sight by using a 3/4" picatinny rail riser. It will then line up perfectly with the rail on the top cover.
thatARMSguy@reddit
I feel like if you used one of those Cry Havoc barrel adapters it would work as a QD system
Baddy-Smalls@reddit
That's awesome. Can I have one lol
XxcOoPeR93xX@reddit
How much less expensive is "significantly less expensive"? Do you have a ballpark?
bb8c3por2d2@reddit
This needs to be fed from a backpack for crazy amounts of ammo capacity. Yes I know it isn't practical, but just imagine.
Cliffinati@reddit
Most belt fed uppers use NATO Stanmag pattern belt boxes
bb8c3por2d2@reddit
Shhhhhh. I'm going to reenact the scene from predator.
Cliffinati@reddit
Just because the Belt Box can fit in a AR mag well doesn't mean you couldn't make a backpack belt box
cparks1@reddit
If you could make this mostly 3d-printable r/fosscad would love you forever
Forsaken-Fix-5870@reddit (OP)
It would not be 3D printable without redesigning everything from the ground up. My goal was to make it reliable and affordable, which means its based off of the m249 saw and a standard AR15. Unfortunately almost none of the parts will function if printed in any type of plastic.
Most 3d printed guns function by making a plastic receiver, and populating them with actual metal gun parts from some sort of parts kit. In this case, you MIGHT get away with a plastic receiver, but you would still need a custom bolt carrier, bolt, feed tray, etc, all parts which will not function in plastic.
If someone eventually makes a fully 3D printable belt fed upper that would be epic, but thats not what this project is.
Sqweeeeeeee@reddit
You're not completely wrong, but you may be surprised with how far 3d printed firearms have come recently: https://www.reddit.com/u/Sqweeeeeeee/s/qfPENcM93S
The only firearm parts in this are the barrels and bolts. Carriers are 3d printed, along with the majority of it. The same designer, Nopel, has a belt fed 9mm design as well.
Anyways, awesome work! I've got my fingers crossed that you'll share your design when it is complete
Forsaken-Fix-5870@reddit (OP)
Yep, I'm familiar with Nopel's mini gun and its absolutely awesome!
Sqweeeeeeee@reddit
I initially thought you were just doing this as a project, but I looked through your post history and saw you're getting set up to sell it. It really is badass, man, and I hope the business takes off for you!
cparks1@reddit
Yeah of course the internals would all have to be metal. But if the receiver could be printed and it could be made compatible with printable links that already exist it would be pretty cool.
Regardless, I was half joking. The thing that's kept me from having a belt fed upper is how expensive they are, so if you can beat the competition by a decent chunk of change I might wind up buying one in the future!
MisterFunktastic@reddit
This looks awesome! Hopefully Fightlite doesnāt come after you.
Forsaken-Fix-5870@reddit (OP)
Thanks! There isn't anything they could come after me for, as the original Ares Shrike patent has been expired for several years now.

Will this have the ability to interact with a FRT or Super Safety system?
Forsaken-Fix-5870@reddit (OP)
Absolutely yes!
Fluctuationism@reddit
Baaaaaaaaaased
Shameful_fisting@reddit
First of all this is great really wanted a MCR but I canāt justify 6k+ for an upper. With that said I have a few questions.
1- maybe Iām dense but where is the charging handle ? Is it a standard AR charging handle or side charge like most beltfeds
2- is the bolt carrier a standard AR BCG just with an upgraded boot or something proprietary?
3- Which leads me to my next question you mentioned it will work with an FRT does that include super safetyās or just the standard RBT style ?
4- is this the final version or do you plan on rounding corners/removing extra weight and anodizing?
Thank you for the work you have done and I canāt wait to buy one
