Question for those who’ve had knee replacement surgery?

My mum was walking with a stick for a year or so before she decided to go private and have it done. Could only go short distances (1mile) and was slow and in pain. She had it during covid and didn't get enough exercise straight after and got a blood clot and had to go back into hospital and that offset the whole healing process. So she was not walking much for a few months. Maybe 3-5 days in hospital after the initial op. They won't do it too early in life because there is a limited life on the new knee and a limited number kf times they can do it. 10-15 years and 2 ops is about the limit. So if you have it done at 60, another at 75 and when you hit 90 you're in a wheelchair with painful knees. If they wait till you're 70, another at 85 and then you'll probably be dead before they need doing again. They don't say this a lot, but there is not a great success rate either. Some people: it doesn't help the pain, many people: it only helps a bit. One of mum's friends demanded an operation off the nhs. One of those people who just keeps going back and whining till they get what the doc don't want to give them. She wasn't even using a stick to walk. The replacement didn't work and she had it redone. Twice iirc. Because she kept complaining about still being in pain. Which means in 15 years: she is very screwed indeed. This is not always a simple "in for a day and always changes your life for the better" situation (like having a swollen appendix out) Oh and watch out for cortisone injections, they damage things like tendons. One chap who had a bad shoulder had 2 cortisone injections and it caused a tendon to weaken and snap. Now he can't lift one arm very high. (He's actually a surgeon and said he knew he was taking a risk but persuaded a friend to do the injection!)
