Tramadol. I was away with my new fairy friends, having a great time laughing and chatting with them. My kids thought it was highly amusing. My husband was cooking dinner (I was completely incapable of doing anything due to a) the drugs and b) the reason I'd been given the drugs and thought it would be a good idea to give me a sharp carving knife and ask if I'd carve the chicken. My kids' amusement soon turned to horror as the sight of me with a carving knife in my hands. It didn't stay there long, once my husband realised that giving me the knife was a really stupid thing to do.

My friend was on Tramadol after a gall bladder surgery, so I went to visit her with flowers. Made her a cup of tea while she sat at the kitchen table in her dressing gown, waving her hands in front of her face and telling me "they're leaving traaaaails!". I suggested she go to bed but she insisted she was fine. The next time I saw her, she told me some lovely tulips had materialised in her kitchen and she had no idea where they came from. I told her I'd brought them. She had absolutely no recollection of me visiting. Apparently it's good stuff!

It's very good stuff, very effective apart from the hallucinatory effects! So good that I had to decline the offer of some from my GP as I wasn't sure if the fairies were actually friendly. No, really, the hallucinations were scary to me even if they were amusing to my family. I amuse them enough as it is with my stupid brain.

Once while having issues sleeping i went to the doctor and i got prescribed some tablets to help sleep. I took the first tablet and sat in bed watching some tv until i felt tired, a short time later i noticed the curtain pole start moving like a snake and saw what i could only describe as shadow people in the background of the tv show who weren’t there. Looking around the room, on the wall i had a photo of the New York skyline with the statue of liberty and noticed that it was turning round to look at me. I was aware i was tripping balls so decided to try sleeping. I checked online and apparently it was a possible side effect. The next night i took them again but didn’t have a reaction the second time which annoyed me a little as i enjoyed the trip lol.

Sudafed makes me high, in the bad, anxious, feel like I might explode from all this pent upness way. Ditto that extra strength lemsip you can get. Every few years I have a terrible cold, really want to breathe, convince myself the sudafed thing cannot possibly be as bad in reality as my memories, take some and remember very fast that I shouldn't. It is like restless legs, but your whole body and your mind too. Unpleasant.

Had an endoscopy a few months ago and they gave me fentanyl amongst a bunch of other pain relief meds. Not sure if it was funny but was certainly an experience, hours of feeling completely content and thinking I was in the matrix because everything was moving so slowly.

They gave you pain relief? Wild. My wife has them fairly often due to a few health conditions and they just give her conscious sedation and a warning that her stomach & throat will be painful for a couple of days.

Not a DR, not sure, was referred to a private practice so maybe they offer more pain relief? Maybe because I’ve got esophagitis and crohns so a “small procedure” like this is especially uncomfortable.

I’m male. Tbh I’m surprised to be questioned why I was given it because from what I’d read it seemed standard. You can opt to not have anything but was advised it’d help with my ongoing condition to make the procedure more comfortable, it was only a tiny amount too. Would hope a woman would be given the same pain relief/ options but maybe they don’t because of insane presumptions.

I have Crohn's, am a woman, I find colonoscopies excruciating, despite having no disease in my colon. Last one I had they virtually knocked me out but I still felt pain, gas and air actually helps if I'm breathing it continuously but it makes me high as a kite and I have a feeling that I need to talk as what I have to say is the most important thing in the world so it wears off lol. Only had one endoscopy but did it no sedation as was there alone, unpleasant but at least I was in control of my brain lol

Many years ago, my partner at the time was prescribed some cough medicine. A friend said it was just sugar water and took some to prove it, when they left to go home, they fell off their motorbike. I took some to see and fell off the toilet and couldn't get up! I think it may have reacted with our recreational medicines.

I had my yearly flu shot in the morning, went to work, and by afternoon, I was tripping balls. I've taken lots of psychedelic in my life, that's what it felt like. I had to hide in the toilets for like an hour. Went religiously to get my flu shots after that, but it never happened again :(

I suffered blinding three-day migraines in my mid-50s and was put on an anti-epilepsy medication called Topiramate to even them out. I started writing back-to-front, lost any ability to do mental arithmetic and couldn't remember the PIN for my ATM card. It also *completely* cut out the mental filter between what I was thinking and what I actually said. I proudly confess, I used this to my personal advantage throughout the year that I spent on the meds and told a number of insufferable arseholes that they were indeed insufferable arseholes.

Went to the hospital for a barium meal to see if I had stomach ulcers. They give you a drug that stops you guts moving to get a better image so the nurse asks me if I drove to the hospital. I say no so she gives me the jab and I ask her why she asked. She replied that in some people it has the side effect of making your vision blurry, like you are drunk. So I told her I rode a bike there and she just looks at me like I am an idiot. Which I am. So my eyes just get fucked up beyond belief - literally couldn't see anything. So I take off all my clothes and put the gown on back to front. They stood me in the machine which actually moves you around to get a good angle and everytime the machine moved my my junk kept flopping out because I had the gown on the wrong way round. The nurses and technicians thought this was hysterical and as I was strapped in I couldn't do much. Then they give you some powder which reacts with fluid to release gas - you are supposed to swallow it hole and not burp - fucking impossible. So I am being moved around in this machine, can see fuck all, my family jewels keep falling out, everyone is having hysterics and I am burping like I had just drunk 6 pints of coke. After while it is all over and I still can't see, couldn't open my locker to get my clothes back and when I got some help I managed to drop and crack my phone and then had to wait for the best part of two hours before I could see properly enough to cycle home..

Apart from becoming totally unable to read a clock, so spent about ten minutes explaining to my husband where the hands were, I also lectured him for apparently a good half hour about why giving birth was worse for him than it was for me, because I just got on with it while he had to watch me in pain, only I wasn't in pain because this stuff was fucking fantastic, but (imagine 14yo being profound), he didn't know that, so he was worried while I was having a great time, and... I then lectured the staff on why labour was worse for him than me, making them rather confused!

I was prescribed some medication for migraines several years back, can't remember what it is called. Anyway, I was working as temporary mail sorter at Royal Mail in the lead up to Christmas on a night shift and started to get the aura, which was a warning. I didn't have the medication on me and by the time I got home, I think it was too late (I find taking medication as soon as possible helps diminish the pain significantly) but I took the medication regardless. This was my first time taking it, and after about 10 minutes I still had a splitting headache and felt like shit, but my head wasn't attached to my body anymore. I've never experienced anything like it, and I never took them again. I just take paracetamol and ibuprofen together now when I feel one coming on.

I had a skin graft in May under GA. When I've come round, I look at the arm that had the graft and see its orange underneath all of the bandages. I proceed to get very excited about the fact that I'm turning into an oompa-lumpa. Well, I was until the pain meds I'd been given in surgery wore off, got given fentanyl and was off my tits for a few hours. I've still got the photo I insisted on being taken as proof on my phone somewhere x

Nothing too crazy, but a few years ago I had some very minor surgery under a general anaesthetic. I don't remember too much, aside from some odd dreams but for some reason I came to in recovery singing tunes from Gilbert and Sullivan.

I had a nephrectomy and was in significant pain afterwards. Had the max dose of liquid paracetamol, fentanyl, tramadol, nothing was touching it. They broke out the ketamine, cue me melting for a few hours and then the comedown kicked in. Couldn’t have anyone near me, when the doctor touched my ankle I burst into tears.

Many years ago I mentioned to the GP (I was there for something else) that my chest was sore. After an examination he said it was muscle strain from carrying heavy boxes while moving house (I'd moved a few weeks prior). He gave me some painkillers, said not to take one when I was going to be driving soon as it might make me a bit drowsy. Off I went on my merry way into the office. At lunchtime I figured I'd take the drowsy one as I wasn't going to be driving until I went home. So I did. I have only the vaguest memories until the next day; I remember telling the lady in the next office that I felt a bit woozy, I remember being back at the GP surgery (my boss had driven me there, I still have no recollection of that) and wanting to lie on the floor because you can't fall off the floor. I remember my sister being there (they'd called her to come pick me up), then I remember being in bed at my mum's house. Turns out I'm an ultra-rapid metaboliser (meds, not food unfortunately!), and the 60mg of codeine I had taken had rapidly been turned into morphine in my system; and as at the time I was much skinnier than I am now (I had the body and circulation of a 13 year old) I was completely off my tits. So no more codeine for me!

Something similar happened to my boss. He got a sciatica, but still hobbled into work as we had a client meeting that afternoon. I had some 30mg codeine knocking about from a previous issue and offered him one as he was struggling to think straight from the pain and could hardly walk. We’re all well versed on pharmacology from our job and it became blindingly obvious he’s a ultrarapid metaboliser when he was giggling at nothing and high as fuck.

Not necessarily myself or an adverse reaction to medication, but watching my other half come round from dental surgery after he had been anaesthetised (phobia dentist) was an experience. Obviously, you can't eat beforehand so he came round hangry, demanding burgers. As we left the 'wake up' room, the dental nurse said to me, 'Make sure you take care of him!' Whereby he slapped my arse as hard as he could as we walked through the swing doors, yelling 'I'll take good care of this thaangg laterrr!' I was fuming. It took me and two other nurses to fold him into my Peugeot cause he kept wandering off looking for burgers. And then on getting home, me (5ft3) trying to get him (6ft1 and 17 stone) up the steps and into the house was impossible, all while he was yelling and crying for a burger. My neighbour's elderly mother ended up trying to help. It was such a mess. Didn't have burgers at home, so I put him on the sofa and made him a sandwich. It took him two hours to slowly munch his way through it - he kept forgetting it was in his hands.

I have an eye condition, was given drops once as a child that made me so blurry I could not see for a day after. My mother kept telling me it couldn’t be that bad, I was about 7ish. Sent to school still unable to see. Had a test to sit, was just asking my friend what the paper said as I couldn’t see it. Got told off by my teacher for cheating!! The injustice of it still stings now at age 40! Also my son was being tested for the same condition when he was a baby and I was told by the ophthalmologist to expect him to be very cranky and unable to see properly for about a day. I did indeed feel vindicated and immediately told my own mother.

Got prescribe Amitriptyline as a pain control agent years ago. Caused me waking visual hallucinations, sweating like I was in a sauna and insomnia. Seeing giant 3 foot spiders in the corner of your eye while trying to work was unsettling to say the least.

I had some super painkillers for migrains once and wound up convinced that a friends bed that I was attempting to sleep on was actually a hovercraft - And a shit one at that, so I was telling her about how shit it was whilst not actually getting any sleep. I had morphine when in hospital once and was amazed to watch all these small white worms squeeze themselves out of holes in my knees.

I think that's the same test I had. I remember it being weird because the street outside the opticians was so bright I couldn't see anything, but there was a pub directly opposite that I could suddenly see all the way through really clearly because so much light was getting into my eyes! Had to buy a pair of sunglasses to get home afterwards and even then I was walking in the shadows as much as possible. Felt like a vampire!!

He got out to nip into the supermarket,then came back and got into the back seat. then he got in the other back door and sat next to himself. then he got in the drivers seat - and we're up to 3 of him at this point and I stopped counting....

When I was in the second year at Primary School my Teacher had a meeting with my parents where she said that she was concerned because I'd started becoming drowsy in class and was acting like I was drunk. The cause was the Ventolin inhalers I had been prescribed by the Doctor for Asthma. They moved me on to Bricanyl instead which returned my behaviour to normal (or what was normal for me!).

My wife is on some very strong prescription opioid patches and liquid for pain relief. Every three days is 'patch day' which results in her being unable to stop talking. It can take us three hours to watch a 40 minute TV show because something will set her off chatting and I won't get a word in edgewise for the next ten minutes. She also has a prescription for sleeping pills which make her talk utter bollocks when half-asleep that she has no recollection of later. They range from weird ('We need to stop the bananas!') to funny ('My feet are like hands... on the bottom of my legs.) to aggressively telling me to fuck off when I ask if she wants a coffee.

I have some painkillers for my EDS symptoms that make me sneeze uncontrollably when they are wearing off. I'm talking like 20 sneezes in a row! They're 12 hour ones so it's really confusing when I forget I've taken them and a really handy reminder that ill be due again soon
