Hostels seem so expensive these days. Or they charge huge fees. One in Miami was $6 but with about $15 in fees/taxes!

It got terrible reviews as well. Is it better to pay in person? Maybe offer cash? I notice many don't have phone numbers on the Trip Advisor /Booking/Hotels.com pages. Maybe this is a stipulation of the website so the traveler just hopes for the best and books online not really knowing what it will be like? So often people remark how the place looked nothing like the rooms. When I've traveled extensively before I never, ever paid for a room without viewing it first. That just seemed insane.

$21 is super cheap. In NYC, hostel beds can cost anywhere from $70-100 a night.

NYC? How's your vision? Where did I mention NYC? We're talking Miami. And it's the taxes we're discussing. Taxes that are 3 times the price of the room.

Yeah and I'm looking for hostels in Miami where the minimum end is £20 so you're completely full of it

Sure is - I was paying that 20 years ago in YHA hostels!

It cost 21 dollars just to take a deep breathe in Miami

$21 per night for Miami is no way expensive.

Can’t even buy one drink on Collins Ave for that price.

....$21 for a night in Miami??? One of the most expensive places to go??? Maybe you shouldn't go, you won't be able to afford anything else 😅 (I LOVED Miami, but it's not a cheap city)
kissedbypizza@reddit
Hostel dorms cost $100+ a night everywhere rn. 21 is so so cheap, you should book it before it’s gone.
Projektdb@reddit
I think it costs more than 21$ to sleep in a bus stop in Miami.....
Artimusjones88@reddit
If 21 is a lot, how do you plan on eating, going places or do anything.
zrgardne@reddit
I am not surprised.
Are you American? Hostels aren't really a thing here. And they often attract problematic customers.

The total price...US$21?... for Miami is not very expensive.. certainly compared to NYC,or Western Europe prices!
Some places just headline a low rate and put taxes separately to attract people I guess, that's why the 'tax' part seems to be a big percentage of the total.

I wanted to drive to innsbruck this weekend....cheapest one was 60 a night for the dorms! Same with Warsaw, Berlin, and Vienna Prague is always cheap though
