Subway insanity?

The whole point of Subway was to see and choose what went into your sandwich. Now presented with this. Thoughts š?

Not a problem for the 6+ footers of the world lol.
Ltb1993@reddit
Not being g the most social but a card system wouldn't hurt, tick what you want hand it over
They crack on in view
I like the choice, but hate the million questions
Immediate-Repair1574@reddit
Less workers/jobs means more people on their phones with more time to post sht online & spending their social benefits on consuming sht goods - whilst deciding which sh*t fast food is gonna clog your arteries the slowest š
Bob-omberman@reddit
I used these once at a service station and the options limited some of your choices, then person got about 3 different things wrong and I wasnāt certain it was my sub to be able to correct them as it went.
Does undermine one of the best bits for me really, but maybe thereās some perk to itā¦?
XIXXXVIVIII@reddit
It works great for the menu is more "static" like McDonald's, Greggs, Starbucks, etc. But for places like subway; where the entire USP is an infinite, dynamic, scalable combination of ingredients; it just doesn't work.
Sedulous280@reddit (OP)
It seems like the benefit is they give less ingredients out. Three sweet corn , One olive š«
-DoctorSpaceman-@reddit
I think this is the main reason. They have been stingy for months and I always watch and usually ask them to add more on. Canāt do it now so just not gonna bother going anymore.
Different-Put-1284@reddit
Itās so silly , tried it the other day and I was disappointed. I couldnāt even find the option to make my own sub š
Hiltoyeah@reddit
Never been to subway, never will.
FinalEgg9@reddit
This might actually make me get a Subway. I never go there specifically because I don't want to have to face an interrogation just to get a sandwich.
AdministrativeBlock0@reddit
That's fair.bthis makes Subway more accessible for some people. If that's a bigger group than the number of people who'll stop going because these screens make the sandwich worse then it's a good business idea.
I'd be very surprised if that's true though.
What Subway should do is have one or two of these screens for people who just want to order and not talk to anyone, and keep the old line as well.
Also, fwiw, Subway has an app you can order on...
rebelious77@reddit
sounds like social anxiety?
KawaiiPooPoo@reddit
Itās not social anxiety. I love shopping for anything with human contact. But subway overdoes it. And thereās too many points of back and forth for something that not that valuable and frankly Iām not there for the experience but the quick sandwich. Itās not fine dining
Flashy-Pea8474@reddit
Why donāt you just say I want a ham sub and just make it whatever way you see fit?
FinalEgg9@reddit
Sure is. Doesn't change the fact that I don't go to Subway specifically because of the ordering experience.
rebelious77@reddit
Are there any shop face-to-face experiences that you do like?
FinalEgg9@reddit
I'm fine with anything else, really. It's specifically the barrage of questions in Subway that I dislike.
zippohippo12@reddit
Idk bro, this sounds kinda odd. Not that hard. If the screens help I guess.
Interstellore@reddit
Subway employee: what kind of bread would you like?
u/FinalEgg9 : quit interrogating me if I knew thereād be this many questions Iād have brought my lawyer!
supercbuk@reddit
I thought the exact thing when I walked past it the other day.
Ok-Fox1262@reddit
Well it does mean I don't have to talk to the staff. So for me that's a bonus.
juanito_f90@reddit
Yeah because talking to staff to get the product you want is such a ballache. /s
jamesick@reddit
so this is what ignorance sounds like
juanito_f90@reddit
Nope, itās part of being an adult.
I donāt particularly like speaking to others, but when I want a custom made product made to my spec, I ensure itās done right.
jamesick@reddit
not all people buying from subway are adults.
not all adults are the same.
as long as you also have the option to speak to a person then all this is doing is catering to different people.
maybe being an adult is appreciating that not everyone is the same and many will have needs/preferences which you do not.
Ok-Fox1262@reddit
For some of us it is. Not everyone is socially confident.
sympathetic_earlobe@reddit
Well this will help.
Ill-Cardiologist-585@reddit
i also hate talking to people but iād rather do that and be able to see/know that my order is 100% right and how i want it than use these tbh. atleast like put the screens to the side to make it an optional thing. they still end up asking me like āno cheese?ā and shit anyway even when using the screens
Flashy-Pea8474@reddit
Best way to get confident is exposure and something like this will lead to more people losing social confidence, who are losing more and more to accommodate those who do not have social confidence.
Choice. People need choice. If I want my groceries scanned I still have that choice of human interaction. Posting a parcel I still have the choice to interact with a human. With this I donāt have a choice and this is where subway have got it wrong.
Accommodate everyone. Everyone. Those with and without social confidence.
Ok-Fox1262@reddit
It's a bit late for me. I'm nearly sixty and would starve rather than talk to someone.
Flashy-Pea8474@reddit
Iām really devastated to hear that. I feel I may go that way and more digitisation and de humanising of everyday interactions will accelerate this.
juanito_f90@reddit
Self checkouts I get it.
For a custom made product, itās probably a necessary evil.
silentgrey@reddit
The seeing really means nothing to me, I think most people know what salad looks like? You still get to choose your toppings and itās made fresh so not sure what the issue is
piper_perri_vs_5guys@reddit
Canāt wait for them to go bankrupt
Ill-Cardiologist-585@reddit
i hate these screens
the_amazing_gog@reddit
Also hate the āmenuā screen above that every fast food place seemed to be installing nowadays. Shows you a menu in tiny lettering for 5 seconds then cuts to some fucking animation of the food for 10 seconds. So fucking stupid.
remosgrace32@reddit
And then you stand there awkwardly and tell the cashier "I'm just waiting for the screen to change back"
99hamiltonl@reddit
I don't mind digital menus so long as it is a menu and not an advert for something I probably don't want.
JamieTimee@reddit
There's nothing like touching diseased piss-ridden surfaces before eating food with your bare hands!
FinchMandala@reddit
I love being able to avoid human interaction if I can help it, but covering up the food from view just gives them more of an excuse to loosen their sanitation procedures and give me less product.
UncleNandrolone@reddit
...and tamper with the ham because I am kufr
Legitimate-Source-61@reddit
In the future it will be a robot making the sandwich behind the wall.
darybrain@reddit
Why is the S and H in Fresh look like they are falling off as if they gave up halfway through saying the word? Not very full on fresh I'd say.
CandyKoRn85@reddit
Theyāre monitors and I think theyāre in motion basically - probably just changing your say something else.
sympathetic_earlobe@reddit
Made fresh in front of you.
TechboyUK@reddit
It will speed things up as many people go to the counter and are indecisive.
Also, because the government has increased employer National Insurance contributions, companies will be hiring a lot fewer staff and using things like self-service automation a lot more (Subway, Sainsburyās and Waitrose have added this recently).
We will also likely see leisure and retail places reduce their operational days quite significantly.
Legitimate-Source-61@reddit
This is the future.
petey23-@reddit
Self service in supermarkets has been a thing for at least 15 years.
TechboyUK@reddit
Yes, but look at shops now, many are removing existing checkouts to add a lot more self service.
petey23-@reddit
It's been going on for 15 years. Labour policies aren't the thing that's caused it.
Jackster22@reddit
They are doing this so they can put less in your meal without you noticing...
BlockOk6483@reddit
I'm guessing that they now take online orders and this standardises things for them.

LandscapeEfficient11@reddit
Went to Ask for a meal the other day. Wife asked for a lasagne. Sent it back because there was hardly any mince or tomato in it. It was just several layers of dried pasta sheets. They will have been cost cutting, but they have cut us off as we wonāt be eating there again.
foreverunamused@reddit
Subway sells lasagne?? I think you're thinking of somewhere else dude
IndefiniteLouse@reddit
I would love this. Having to explain your weird sandwich preferences is almost as bad as when, post pandemic, they had someone at the Harvester salad bar serving your salad for you.
Sedulous280@reddit (OP)
I used to go to one sandwich shop and the person would shout Chicken and Prawn man is here and start making my sandwich. Apparently I was the only one to eat this combo. Embrace weirdness I say
IndefiniteLouse@reddit
Was with a kid this week who had a tuna mayo and pepperoni sandwich. Apparently it was good.

When AI has brought back Michael Parkinson from the dead for podcasts, it's not really a surprise to see more automation popping up in shops & stores, this is the future for now at least :(
Important_Try_7915@reddit
Subway is that really odd business where youāre not sure why it hasnāt closed down. Theyāre almost always empty, very few people go - and yes the good thing about them was the fact itās made and prepared in front of you, really odd how itās still going and maybe this is its demise.
Donāt get me wrong I actually love subway, meatball marinara all the way, but for new customers Iāve got no idea how theyād know whatās worth getting.

Love it, which one is it?
I normally ask to make them identical to the pictures in menu to avoid talking about ingredients (which gets artists confused), this should make the process easier.

CMK station
Projiuk@reddit
Wait this is the one at the station? That wasnāt a bad subway. I really donāt get the need for the machines, though I know that one does get busy. I thought the whole point of subway was sandwiches made fresh in front of you. I hope this isnāt the start of a wider roll out of the machines
Indiowhit@reddit
So so so bad
