Affectionate-Put6856@reddit
absolutely!! why they didnt choose to design it that way blows my mind. so much better looking brooo
OkCustard1381@reddit
It may look good, but the A80 didn't look like an A70 at all, so it feels more fitting to keep the real design instead of the bottom image
Fast-Imagination1932@reddit
No doubt. I always wonder, "who signed off on this? "
SadisticSpeller@reddit
Why? The MK2 didn't look like the MK1, the MK3 didn't look like the MK2, the MK4 didn't look like the MK3, why should the MK5 look like the MK4?
deleted_by_reddit@reddit
I don’t think people are against change. The nose on the MK V is just not very popular.
Adventurous_Bold1727@reddit
Thanks for pointing that out; I cannot help but think the front part of the MKV looks like that of a bugatti
KrootLoops@reddit
I'm gonna play devil's advocate here for a second and say the MkIII did actually look like the MkII in general styling. Overall shape of the car, though smoothed out as we went from late 80s to early 90s, the wraparound grille in the front (until the facelift where it gained that divider in the middle), it retained the popups, the booty still had long bar-style taillights.
You are absolutely 100% correct in that the MkII looks nothing like the MkI though, I agree there.
phanes@reddit
I think what we're trying to get at here is that the MK5 should have been a Toyota Supra, not a BMW Z4 with some toyota badging on it. Specifically I think the wheelbase is too short, thats very un supra.
TheRealTacoMike@reddit
I don’t understand this argument. MKI-MKIII Supra all had engines originally manufactured by Yamaha and the rest by Toyota, so why people are only now upset about another company making the engine and transmission is beyond me...

I know this is 4 years old but I'm on the fence on getting one but rode it and changed my mind.
Anyways, you should be aware the GR Supra today had to conform to points that are non negotiable on the Z4. There exists a Mk5 GR Supra if it would to be built by Toyota. The most obvious is when you open the door and look at the side panels, you'll see extra panelling just so this frankenstein shell conforms to the z4 chasis.
In the end I decided to not get one just because I rather get a GR86 or a used 911 or a s650 GT350. Supra feels very half assed and a weird point for car performance. It's not that's not that great, but not that bad.

It's funny revisiting this now. Six years ago, I would have agreed. Nowadays every car has a big leering black grill on the front, and the contemporary styling really distinguishes it from everything else on the road.
It also subtly ties it in with the rest of the Toyota lineup. Just yesterday I noticed the prius' has a little pointy hump on the front kind of showing it's distantly related to the Supra, part of the Toyota family.
Stance, firmly changed.
NodensWRFafnir@reddit
I don't mind the current model of the supra but this looks awesome!
NodensWRFafnir@reddit
This actually looks really good but I don't mind the current model
ashowofhands@reddit
Holy fuck, I swear the only way people would be satisfied with this car is if they just started literally making Mk4s again
1052098@reddit
Yes. That’s literally what we want. Why does Toyota refuse to take our money?

For a car that would probably struggle to outperform a modern fwd hot hatch?
This car is looked at with the most rose tinted of glasses. Usually by people who have never even sat in one.
amidoes@reddit
Yeah, because you're comparing a 25 year old car vs current hot hatches. My TDI also destroys antique cars. A Megane RS will also destroy many Ferraris. They could have done something much more impressive with current tech. Not just slap an engine from a BMW parts bin on it.
TrapsBruh@reddit
It’s also most of the body from a BMW
And the interior
And the engine
BMW Supra it is
deleted_by_reddit@reddit
I mean, what's wrong with that? People here love to circlejerk about unreliable German cars, so a German car with Toyota reliability sounds pretty good to me.
OD_Emperor@reddit
Except they did it the wrong way round. It's the BMW engine putting most people off because, wholly, they're less reliable than something Toyota could've made.
D13tznU7s@reddit
Ok? It’s BMW’s most reliable engine. I haven’t heard of the engine shitting out pistons and oil like there’s no tomorrow.
OD_Emperor@reddit
Why are you snooping on a 4yr old post?
D13tznU7s@reddit
Can snooping on a 4 year old post get me banned? No.
OD_Emperor@reddit
No you're just a creeper.
D13tznU7s@reddit
tsssssss *BOOM!
Teledildonic@reddit
And yet the 86 is a Subaru with a Toyota transmission and fuel injection but nobody bitches about it...
SummerDays@reddit
Because Subaru ain’t unreliable, and Subaru makes STi. Everything BMW makes is unreliable, overweight, and they just can’t get their electronic steering and adaptive damping right.
D13tznU7s@reddit
“Subaru is reliable”
I need whatever you’re smoking my guy
hungryColumbite@reddit
Transmission too right?
It’s like the Toyota BMW!
Aka “BMW z4 hardtop”
D13tznU7s@reddit
You do realize they started production of a manual version as of posting this comment right?
Zarrex@reddit
but the mk4 came from the factory with a 1000hp TOO JAY ZEE

W a Toyota designed and made engine.
balahbalh@reddit
The supra front so ugly almost as bad as bmw 3 series

D3athCAP@reddit
bottom one looks nice, really, nice.
StevePerrysMangina@reddit
The front grill looks like it’s smiling, I don’t want a friendly looking sports car. I prefer the top.
Pochita_guy@reddit
Huh why not
smile= happy
happy= you in the car
BigManEcho@reddit
All ima say is that I think my BMW Supra with the manual is a good car.
RangeRoverHSE@reddit
I like it, but it's just a Mk4. Let the Mk5 be the Mk5, not a Mk4 wannabe. I do like the wing though.
D13tznU7s@reddit
Yeah, especially because none of the earlier generations resemble each other that much. Why not let the mk5 continue down that path?
RangeRoverHSE@reddit
Yeah only the 2 and 3 kinda looked alike. The mk1 was very different, as was the mk4. A few years later and I think the mk5 still looks as fresh as the day it was revealed. And now you can get it with a manual too, what's not to like?
shakaaaabraaaa@reddit
This looks good, but it really should've just looked like the FT-1 concept.
D13tznU7s@reddit
Someone literally said the FT-1 was a concept car that was made to look cool. The tires are thin, the rims are huge, and there are plenty more things that wouldn’t happen on a production car
Raptr117@reddit
The MK5 looks good. It’s unpopular but it’s my opinion.
D13tznU7s@reddit
Call me a controversial man, but I’d much rather have a mk5 than a mk4.
EndrFlare@reddit
if y’all want an mk4 then just get an mk4... goodness lmao
Koiq@reddit
Mk4s are nearly as expensive as the mk5 and are 25 years old
D13tznU7s@reddit
It’s especially bad because you can get the Lexus IS300 for a third of the price with the exact same engine
antlicious@reddit
Youre stuck in the 90s. get real
Sloppy1sts@reddit
I mean, previous generations aside, I just think the bottom version looks way better.
D13tznU7s@reddit
It just looks too blobby for me to like. You can downvote me all you want, it won’t change my opinion
