Hello all!! I’m brining the pops to Dallas for a cowboys game in January. We are from western Canada and have hardly traveled out of Canada in the last 10 years. We both have never been to Texas. We are there from the 1st to the 9th so a good 8 days to experience the city and what not.
What is everyone’s go to restaurant/must haves for a Canadian who has never been to Texas.
I have never had any of the speciality fast food chains. Like in n out or whataburger, chic fil a , or jack in the box or sonic.
Obviously we don’t know the city. So any sit down restaurants. Any activities that are must do’s when going to Dallas. We know we want to do the aquarium and zoo if they are open in January.
Top golf as well. Of course all depends on the weather. But other then that I’m looking for any suggestions at all!!
Thank you!
Your friendly Canadian friend.

Make sure y'all rent a car! Your lives will be significantly easier if you do.
Must-eats include Texas BBQ, TexMex, Mexican, kolaches, and some of our fun fusion places.
For BBQ, I recommend:
Terry Black's (Deep Ellum, Dallas)
Tender Smokehouse (Frisco, Celina, Aubrey)
Goldee's (Fort Worth)
Ten50 (Richardson)
You'll get a lot of recommendations for Pecan Lodge as well, but I'm not a huge fan. Too salty.
For TexMex, I recommend:
Tequileros (Frisco)
Mia's (a little north of downtown Dallas)
Rj (Dallas)
Tender Smokehouse (specifically their breakfast tacos)
For authentic Mexican, I recommend:
Tequileros (they do both)
El Paisa (Carrollton)
Calles de Mexico (The Colony)
Taqueria Los Angeles (Plano)
Literally any shack in Oak Cliff (only during daylight)
For kolaches, most bakeries, especially if they're independently owned, will have them. Many are owned by Vietnamese immigrants, and they have very good donuts as well.
For fusion, I recommend:
Cris and John (Dallas — Vietnamese/Mexican)
Loro (Addison — Pan Asian/Texas BBQ)
Smoke N'Ash (Arlington — Ethiopian/Texas BBQ)

I very much appreciate your list and clear response for me here. We have a Tesla rented for the entire week with a supercharger right outside of our hotel.
Made more sense for us to do that then to get a gas sedan for the week and spend $$ on gas.
Thanks again. I have made a pretty good itinerary for my trip and am super excited to come down in the new year!! Thanks again.

I’d ask in the Dallas and Ft Worth subs, you’ll get better responses there

FYI, Visiting (and moving) questions are not allowed in the Dallas sub.
Will be back shortly with some suggestions.

Oh, good to know

Try some Texas BBQ and Tex-Mex. Search around this sub for recommendations. Keep your expectations realistic regarding the Cowboys - they're having an awful year.

The Fort Worth Zoo is better than the Dallas Zoo, as I understand it. If you are museum people, the Kimbell is great - also in Fort Worth. The weather in January is usually fine, just very mild Texas winter. I'll let someone else suggest restaurants. Enjoy your visit!
