This is slightly grim but I'd like to know what happened to Andrew Gosden. My theory is he was lured to London on the promise of new video games or something (he had such hobbies) and was murdered. But I can't get my had around how Andrew seemingly vanished without trace, even with the huge prevalence of CCTV in London.

Where is Keith Bennett buried.

I think he's in that clump of forest by the moors on the other side from were they found Those poor kid's, There's even pictures That sicko Ian took of myra by that forest, I don't know if they ever searched there.
MrBiscuitOGravy@reddit
Near an area called Shiny Brook. Riddled with underground streams and subterranean cracks in the bedrock. It is highly unlikely he will ever be found. It is almost certain that he won't be a whole skeleton anymore.
People think all the bodies were well preserved due to being buried in peat, but I believe it was only one of the girls whose body was preserved. All the rest were decomposed.
Shoddy-Computer2377@reddit
I think he was buried in a part of the moor which was soft and moving ground, meaning the landscape had changed by 1987 when Brady went back there.
The officers with him said he seemed genuinely confused and panicked that he couldn't remember, despite being sure he was in the right place. It's not behaviour they ever saw from him before, or anytime after.

I saw someone claim on here in a previous thread that the police reckon she's under the university foundations of whatever they were building at the time
Stripycardigans@reddit
That's what every taxi driver in York claims. But I've never seen any proof beyond that
The claim is that she's under the swimming pool in the Heslington East campus, and that the foundations for it were laid the morning after she disappeared. Supposedly the police went there to investigate but didn't go any further once they saw the concrete had been laid.
I'm not sure that day old foundations would really stop the police
Confident_Leg2370@reddit
Ive never heard of the swimming pool thing but I’ve heard the university rumour. What I understand is that the police used ground penetrating radar to see if there were any holes underground in that area and found nothing other than medieval remains, not to mention if she was there, the concrete would set around her body and as it decomposed there would be a huge hole which would cause so many issue regarding structural integrity. I’ve heard allsorts regarding where her body could be though and not many make much sense
williamshatnersbeast@reddit
They went to the Uni to take some statements etc… once she’d been declared missing but I don’t think the ‘foundations’ theory had got any traction at that point? It was a while later that started cropping up, not the next day. Plus, I’m pretty sure that a huge fuck off buildings worth of concrete foundations is a bit of a ballache to excavate on the off chance some taxi drivers are right.
Not saying they wouldn’t or couldn’t do it but it would require some pretty solid evidence to undertake such works and, at the moment, that theory is all speculation or based on circumstantial evidence at best.

The police know what happened to her and who did it (and probably a fair idea of how it was done), they just don’t have enough evidence to bring charges.

jimmyrayreid@reddit
The idea that two law abiding people randomly killing their own kid, sneaking off and dumping their own daughter's corpse whilst having a meal 300 feet away from witnesses and then calling the police the investigate is absurd.
These two random law-abiding citizens managed to find a place to stow a body that couldn't be found, and cover all traces from the most intense manhunt in history and they weren't even on their own turf.
It's even more stupid to suggest it was caused by a mistake. The idea that their gut reaction, in that circumstance was not only to cover it up, but to do so perfectly, is legitimately fantastic.
DaveBeBad@reddit
By law abiding, you mean parents who abandoned their children in a hotel room while they went boozing in a restaurant with their mates?
Leaving the children “home alone” is a criminal offence in the UK - and was before the incident. None of the children were anywhere near old enough to be left alone.
That doesn’t mean that they killed their daughter, but if it happened on a council estate here they would be prosecuted and face losing their other kids.
talking_heads_90333@reddit
Classic reddit. Leaving young kids alone is equivalent to being a child killer and covering it up.
I know reddit froths at the mouth at the chance to call the McCann's evil murderers but that was a stupid take even by reddit standards.
DaveBeBad@reddit
If they hadn’t broke the law (multiple times), their daughter wouldn’t have died.
Their actions didn’t deserve her death, but if they had taken their kids for food - like most parents do - it would never have happened.
They are culpable for her disappearance and likely death.
Lajxo-@reddit
I really can’t believe that people are disagreeing with you! Crazy behaviour. Regardless of whether they were involved in her disappearance or not, their careless actions caused it. They left their babies to go for a fancy meal/piss up. I feel dodgy even taking the bins outside when my children are home. To leave them for any amount of time on their own is unfathomable.
LordEmostache@reddit
Yeah, you can very easily tell who has kids and who doesn't by whether they see the issue with what the parents did or not.
pysgod-wibbly_wobbly@reddit
I had this conversation with my mother , I would never leave mine on their own, and am of the opinion they are negligent and failed to protect their children.
My mother daso On the flip side of this before Madeline McCaan this was fairly normal behavior when on holiday being in holiday resorts creates a false sense of security and that it wasn't a behavior that was frowned upon. And that this innocent is the reason we find it so abhorrent.
Pale-Remote-39@reddit
I’m not sure if it’s still a thing but I remember at Butlins in the late 80’s or early 90’s there was a kiddy patrol that used to go around the chalets and check on the whippersnappers while mum and dad were down t’pub. If babby started crying or brothers started scrapping they’d come and get the parents lololol.

I'm never, ever having children and I wouldn't leave young children alone in a hotel room to have dinner.
LambonaHam@reddit
I think it's more that you have good parents and childless people on one side, and shitty parents who are okay with abandoning their children on the other.
mumwifealcoholic@reddit
the most dangerous people to your kids are ones they know. Not some stranger who is going to steal your kids whilst you're taking the bins out.
Lajxo-@reddit
My bins are 2 meters from my door, I know that no one is going to sneak in when I’m stood there. It’s more the fact that children are chaos and even in 30 seconds they can get into things. When her parents left them alone anything could have happened. Obviously the worst did, but they could have had any number of accidents. The parents were negligent and those children deserved better.
LambonaHam@reddit
It's a pretty good way to admit to people that you're a negligent parent. 'Oh, leaving your child alone in a foreign country to go get pissed is totally okay. Parents should get to enjoy their holiday too!'.
Arthourmorganlives@reddit
What's "multiple laws" did they break?
DaveBeBad@reddit
They abandoned their children on multiple (4) occasions to go for a meal without them. Section 138 of the Portuguese criminal code.
VeganRatboy@reddit
Lock them up and throw away the key! If they will eat dinner 200m away then they clearly deserved to have their child kidnapped.
DaveBeBad@reddit
If they had looked after their child as most other parents do she would never have been kidnapped.
They are on a family holiday, eat earlier and take the kids for the meal. Or hire a babysitter. Or one parent stays at home while the other goes out. That what responsible parents do.
VeganRatboy@reddit
Okay. What's your point? Why do you feel the need to say this?
You clearly think it's their fault that their kid was taken. Why do you need to keep telling the world this, almost 20 years on?
Most parents have left their kid unattended at some point. She was asleep, and they were checking on her every 20 minutes. Yes it's not ideal, but they didn't deserve to have her taken, and they don't deserve for scrotes like you to keep shitting on them for it for so fucking long.
LambonaHam@reddit
Take your own advice.
Don't they? Do you think the McCann's are on Reddit reading this thread? At what point does it become unacceptable to criticise their actions?
Why are you so upset by this? Is it because you also like to leave your young children unattended?
VeganRatboy@reddit
You're a joke
LambonaHam@reddit
Oooh more projection. How witty 🙄
VeganRatboy@reddit
Why would I waste my wit on you?
LambonaHam@reddit
You'd have to have some in order to waste it.
DaveBeBad@reddit
Not many parents leave their kids asleep unattended where they can’t see or hear them. Especially 3 under the age of 4.
And by “every 20 minutes”, you mean at 21:05 and not until 22:00. A friend did the 21:30 check and just peeped in.
And then the first words from the mother was “someone’s taken her”. When your child goes missing, your first thought is that they’ve wandered off. As kids do.
mumwifealcoholic@reddit
I think there is a cultural element. where I come from it is quite common for kids to be left on their own. To walk to school, to go on hikes, ect. The UK appears to have picked up this "keep the children safe" obsession from the US.
Stranger abductions are EXTREMELY RARE. Despite what the media tells you. The most dangerous people to your kids, are ones they already know and probably love.
DaveBeBad@reddit
It depends how old you are. I was walking to school by myself from 7. I only ended up in hospital twice after being attacked by older kids.
But that was the 70s and as a parent, there is a big difference between a 4 year old and a 7 year old.
mumwifealcoholic@reddit
I wouldn't let my 6 years old walk to school alone, although I did. ANd it isn't because I think someone will take him. It is because people drive very selfishly in this country.
When I return to my home country I let my 6 year old take the bus on their own. He can walk to Gran's all by himself. The culture around driving is just different there.
DaveBeBad@reddit
I didn’t have a choice, dad worked and mum had to take my younger sister half mile in the other direction.
But we didn’t let our kid walk to school until they were 10-11.

It’s a bit far. But you do need to remember, if you did the same, and you were either a single mum, a minority ethnic or had mental health issues, you would have been prosecuted. Fact. White middle class doctors, who get the PR machine up and running straight away, Nada.
talking_heads_90333@reddit
Please can you point me to the law that factually states a single mum would be prosecuted but a doctor wouldn't
LambonaHam@reddit

LambonaHam@reddit
Classic Reddit. Taking a reasonable and benign comment, and then strawmanning it in to ridiculousness...
wanbeanial@reddit
But no one has said that
jimmyrayreid@reddit
To the extent these children were left "home alone" is debatable and they we're in the UK.
Most people put their kids to bed and do other things or sit in the garden and - shock - socialise and have a drink.
KarenFromAccounts@reddit
I was expecting way worse from what people were saying until I watched the documentary. The hotel rooms were literally about 50m away, the other side of the swimming pool. They were within eye shot. Had I been staying there I've have considered it part of the same place. It's more like leaving the kids in the room to go to the hotel bar than leaving kids home alone while you go for a night out
LambonaHam@reddit
That rules out the possibility of it being anyone else then surely?
LambonaHam@reddit
It is not. Facts are not debatable.
That's not the same thing as going to the pub down the road is it?
Does lashing out like this and embarrassing yourself make you "feel more in control"?
DaveBeBad@reddit
They don’t go to the pub down the road though where they couldn’t see the hotel room. Or shouldn’t.
Our child is a similar age and we did everything together on holiday. Even if it meant we had to be back in the hotel room early in the evening or eat together. Those are some of the best memories from the holidays.

KeremyJyles@reddit
People always say this to bolster their hate, but it's not true. You won't find a comparable case where the parents were charged without a real history of abuse and/or neglect.
Puzzleheaded_Gear801@reddit
Maybe they wouldn't have been charged , but you can bet that if the parents had been Mr and Mrs Blogs, who worked in minimum wage jobs, and had left their kids in the next chalet over at Butlins, instead of them being Drs and leaving their kids in a hotel room in some resort, they would have been raked over the coals by the press, and would have garnered very little sympathy from the general public.
KeremyJyles@reddit
No, I can't bet that. In fact, were I to wager, I'd go the opposite way. There was a lot of unwarranted shit because of their social class and standing.
Puzzleheaded_Gear801@reddit
I think the McCanns got of very lightly compared to the what the equivalent would be if this had happened on a council estate.
KeremyJyles@reddit
Cool, nothing supports that.
Puzzleheaded_Gear801@reddit
Considering your user name, if what happened to Madaline and her family had happened to any of the people that went on that show to be made fun off by the rest of the nation, you know as well as I do that that certain sections of the main stream media, and a good percentage of social media users would have been baying for blood and social services intervention for the remaining children. I remember no such hue and cry about having social services look into the McCanns, and as evidenced on this thread it is almost taboo, to express that the parents did not face the scrutiny that some others in a lower social class would have done.
KeremyJyles@reddit
It's not taboo, hell it was the standard heavily-upvoted war cry whenever this subject came up until the last few years when people finally started to see that their conspiracy nonsense was dying out in popularity.
You didn't have much experience of the subject then
Puzzleheaded_Gear801@reddit
I voiced my opinion of the double standards regarding how a percieved upper class couple were treated vs if they had been a working class family at the time and was totally rounded on. "It's different, they are doctors, they wouldn't have left her if they didnt feel safe " Being called heartless because I refused to donate to some collection for them, and I said I would rather my money go to missing children charity closer to home.
I never said I thought the parents did anything other than what they themselves said they did. Leave their children alone while they went off for a meal. You don't need to buy into any conspiracy about the parents having any hand in her disappearance and probable death, to point out that if it had been some shop worker and post man who had their daughter abducted from a caravan in some British seaside town, that the public would be baying for their blood, and no where near the amount of tax payers money would of been spent as what has been for Madaline.
Shot-Top-8281@reddit
Very much this!!
terryjuicelawson@reddit
I am not going to die on the hill of defending them but if you look at the layout, it was a table on the same complex the other side of a pool from the room. If this is abandonment then anyone in the garden of a large house while their kids sleep upstairs is doing the same.
Present-Technology36@reddit
You understand they were close friends with Tony Blair right? The PM at the time, you think he wouldnt help them cover up the thing? They were also not seen as regular people. They were very wealthy highly educated doctors who were seen as high class individuals. It was an unnatural bias on their side. To this day they have never been charged on the bare minimum on any child endangerment law is an absolute joke. You are trying to tell me with a straight face that they didnt have some sort of help here? Seems you are the absurd one here man.

LambonaHam@reddit
The idea that it was anyone other than the parents is absurd, and requires you to completely dissociate from reality.
They left their young children alone, to go and get drunk.
What's the more likely, and logical situation:
A) Some random creep went in to their apartment, and kidnapped one of their sleeping children, without leaving evidence or alerting anyone.
B) The parents were negligent, medicated their children to sleep whilst they went out and got drunk, Maddy had an accident, the parents (when they eventually decided to check in on their children) panicked and got rid of the body (explaining all the evidence such as dogs alerting to their car).
It's less difficult than you're implying. Take your friends phone, leave it somewhere in a supermarket, ask them to find it. Now widen that out to an entire region.
It wasn't perfect. They were just wealthy, and connected. That's why no authorities ever investigated them.
StrongLikeBull3@reddit
My personal theory is around why they were so cagey with their responses to police questioning is that the parents weren’t responsible for anything to do with Maddy, but they were hiding something else that they were doing. Not sure what, but it’s the only reason i can think of for their lack of cooperation for the longest time.
thehibachi@reddit
I doubt they did it but many people are law abiding until they aren’t, especially in the case of accidents and panic responses.
You’re 100% spot on about how odd it would be for them to have the same panic response though.
Hitonatsu-no-Keiken@reddit
Agreed. It's also common for people to keep on digging themselves deeper into the shit rather than fess up straight away.
IansGotNothingLeft@reddit
To me, finding one of the best hiding places in history (in a country which isn't your own) isn't a panic response though.
jimmyrayreid@reddit
Some people do panic in crises. The most likely outcome is that person calms down and admits it.
thehibachi@reddit
Yeah that’s significantly more likely than a multi-decade fake PR campaign of lies, don’t get me wrong!
JebEnditis@reddit
I don't think it was intentional but I do think it was them.
They contacted media before authorities. Are generally dodgy and have gone on to profit massively from what should really be a tragedy to them.
Dry_Action1734@reddit
And they were both GPs, so I’d hope they wouldn’t accidentally give an incorrect dose of something to their own child.
Aivellac@reddit
I think she died at the start of the week so they had time to cover it up.
Alternative_Week_117@reddit
I'm the other way, I can see how this went down. There's something not right about Gerry. The way he acted throughout you'd have thought he was mulling over an intermittent fault in his car not his daughter being abducted. Too calm, too cool, too in control.
I can see how how a controlling character can convince another that exposing an accident would cost them their jobs, their careers, their children could be taken away, lose their lovely house etc etc.
They just never looked like a couple desperately searching for a daughter, more desperately trying to contain a secret.
As an aside to this my wife works with doctors in an equivalent medical role. About 6 months before Maddy's disappearance a doctor couple were happily telling her how they slip the kids something on long haul flights to make them sleep.
PinkNeom@reddit
You can’t judge people’s motives and feelings on their facial expressions. That’s just not how fear, panic, grief or depression works. Judgment like this is really damaging to people who are suffering.
I remember Jo Cox’s family was judged as being weird and not looking distraught enough and smiling when they came to see the flowers and crowds and speak to them and thank them. They probably worked up so much strength to do that and took comfort in all those people doing that for Jo and then people tore them down like that.
Daisy_bumbleroot@reddit
Joanne Lees was another who got hauled over the coals for not reacting the way people decided she was supposed to
PinkNeom@reddit
People who judge like that usually haven’t been through anything that’s actually traumatic that you have to endure the pain of long term, and think it’s wailing 24/7 and think they would actually be acting hysterical the whole time. Your body would collapse in exhaustion if you behaved that way, it’s physically impossible.
Deep extreme grief and pain can actually be the quietest thing ever because you surpass the normal levels that your face shows expression to, it’s beyond that, it’s much deeper and scarier. Yes you’ll get lots of moments of crying and “looking” like you’re suffering too, but if anything those are the moments of relief letting emotions out, the rest of the time you’re in a dark place stunned into disbelief and acute pain. And also when it involves things like investigations, organising funerals or representing your loved ones in any way and doing them justice in the face of a hideous crime (like Jo’s family) you go into the mode of making sure everything is done correctly and well as that’s something beneficial you can actually do and get great comfort in.
MJLDat@reddit
Law abiding is an assumption. If they did accidentally kill her and cover it up, they are no longer law abiding.
I had a feeling they weren’t telling the truth from their first interview, just something not right.
YourLizardOverlord@reddit
I got those vibes too, but people respond to grief and guilt in different ways so i wouldn't read too much into it.
DirectionProof2374@reddit
I don't think they did it tbh but I also think they should be punished for child neglect. I don't even mind that they left the kids to sleep while checking in on them but they did so while being way to far away. I also think they are idiots and neglectful for not atleast using a baby monitor. I dunno how good they were in 2007 but if the signal wouldn't reach that backs up what I said about being to far away. Lastly the hotel offered a FREE babysitting service that they didn't use?! Like come one at this point just give up your kids cos you obviously don't give a fuck about them. So regardless of whether they had anything to do with it or not their neglectful actions helped someone kidnap a child and do God knows what with her. This then led the government to spend 13.2 million on the case as of 2024. I don't necessarily care what it costs but their laziness and negligence cost the tax payers a fair chunk of money.
The McCanns hold some responsibility for the kidnap of their own child and deserve some kind of punishment.
fuckspezthespaz@reddit
And thats exactly what they wanted you to believe, they couldn’t possibly have done it for “reasons”. There only well off with connections, but no, instead it was a this mastermind criminal, who got away with it for 20years, but while also being locked up for not getting away with other crimes.
ManicPixiRiotGrrrl@reddit
they were negligent enough to leave babies alone in an unlocked room where they couldn’t see them and you think that they would act reasonably if something bad was to happen?
AnonymousTimewaster@reddit
And then ON TOP OF ALL OF THAT, they purposefully spin the media into a frenzy, and even go to the effort of doing book deals etc, putting themselves even more in the limelight...
wallenstein3d@reddit
This is the part that always gets me… if you had done something like that surely you’d have a couple of tearful press conferences and then say “we’ll never give up hope” before slipping out of the public eye. You wouldn’t bang on about it for years afterwards and encourage the investigation to be re-opened multiple times.
terryjuicelawson@reddit
It is proper armchair detective work isn't it. They are doctors, therefore they routinely drug their kids to sleep! Oh but got it wrong this time. And instead of trying to save her, contact the authorities, carry out one of the most precise cover ups in a limited space of time (to people who don't know the area) that has never been unearthed (literally) or even police taking the idea seriously. If people step back and put aside their dislike for the couple, it has to be abduction.
boosie-boo@reddit
The only way I could see a married couple agreeing on this is if there was a genuine reason they could lose their other children if they followed legitimate processes. So an accident happened and they could call the emergency services because Madeline was either drugged to go to sleep or she was an abused child and this would have been discovered at a hospital. Again still not likely with the majority of parents and a hard act to keep up to indefinitely but a possibility nonetheless.
IansGotNothingLeft@reddit
Also, weren't they both doctors or did I make that up? Are two GPs really likely to accidentally overdose their 3yo?

Their child disappeared and they are likely to never find out what happened to her, or be able to bury her body. Do you not think they have paid enough? Do you want them whipped and flogged in the street?

The witch hunt is in no way justifiable. Yeah, they made a mistake which most parents wouldn't have done but the 'punishment' of the situation itself is beyond comprehension, let alone with every tabloid rag and flag shagger piling on.
There isn't a parent in the country who hasn't done something which others would question, and baring very rare exceptions they don't deserve to be subjected to such cruel and prolonged treatment either.

The Malaysian Airlines plane that went missing, I don't think it'll happen but I still can't believe a plane can just disappear
bonkerz1888@reddit
The one that the pilot allegedly ditched in the ocean? There's a lot of circumstantial evidence pointing towards him:
His wife has just left him with their three kids due to his affair which was also on the skids.
He had made no social or professional engagements from the day the flight disappeared.
The plane's satellite transmitter was manually switched off by a crew member.
His home flight simulator with a suicidal flight path that closely matches that actual knowledge flight path until communication was lost.
penguin62@reddit
IIRC, the flight simulator flight path part is sketchy. Seven coordinates that roughly follow the suspected flight were found on the system but there's no way to link them to a single flight or session. They could be from multiple sessions and totally unrelated to each other.
spamlettispaghetti@reddit
If you do more than a surface level investigation into Flight 370 you'll find that a lot of the claims about the pilot in your comment are purely media speculation or downright disproven. There is no tangible evidence that the pilot was anything other than a stable, highly skilled and responsible professional.
Personally, I think the 2.5 tons of lithium batteries in the cargo hold setting alight or a hypoxia event are more likely based on the evidence.
Cheasepriest@reddit
The batteries being set a light would be such a a bizarre thing with such a remote chance of happening, especially happening once and only once is a little unbelievable. Batteries are carried in cargo all the time and we've never seen it happen before or since.
If there was a hypoxia event, that wouldn't explain the pilot knowingly turning off the transponders, and flying in a path that is only detectable briefly on a couple of primary radar stations, in a direction completely counter to the intended destination.
The passengers would have had about half an hour of air. The pilots would have had hours each.
Adding onto this the auto handshake requests the plane gave out to the sat over the south China sea when the main power was turned back on, I think we pretty much can form an idea of what happened.
The debis that's been found even washed up where it would, if the plane went down roughly where the triangulated pings show it did.

Shoddy-Computer2377@reddit
The issue is that Malaysia is a strict Islamic society where this kind of behaviour is very taboo and families tend to live in complete denial, regardless of the evidence.
ToothDoctor24@reddit
Do you have a link for this information?
As it was published that the pilot and co pilot were well vetted and they didn't suspect any foul play from either of them initially.
MJLDat@reddit
So, what are you saying? Have you got a theory?
LordEmostache@reddit
I'd not heard this part before, investigators going "Well this sure is a coincidence".
bonkerz1888@reddit
Aye the Malaysian government iirc initially kept quiet about it as did the ATSB. It was only when the reports/info was leaked and was reported on in the press that both organisations admitted it was true. I could be misremembering but I think the Malaysian police had the pilot as the no.1 suspect.
I suspect the Malaysian Gov don't want to publicly acknowledge it was the pilot as they'd then be on the hook for larger amounts of compensation from all the families. While it's still a "mystery" or "tragic accident" then nobody is liable and the airline can presumably pay out less.
PumpkinSpice2Nice@reddit
Yeah I feel it’s not exactly a mystery that he did it and flew it into the ocean down there. I wish they had been able to find the exactly spot it went down and plane debris that had sunk under that spot. It would have bought more closure for the families.

An interesting theory I was told was that several governments or more know but no one wants to admit that they have radar technology which expands over that area.
Given some of the technology I have seen from a civil point of view I cannot believe there isn’t a single bit of the earth not covered by military radars. They just don’t want to publicly admit it… they probably all know each other’s capabilities but saying out loud in the public domain is another thing.
fost1692@reddit
With the vast area of ocean that was searched on more than one project it would not have been at all difficult for any government that actually had data to have pointed them into the general area, via the sat comms company for example. I've seen details of how much area was covered and that is just a very small fraction of the available area.
pikantnasuka@reddit
I wouldn't be at all surprised by that. It genuinely befuddled me during the search to learn there were swathes of the planet we just weren't watching.

Careful_Inspector174@reddit
There is a book called ‘the disappearing act’ by Florence De Changy. It explains a lot, the pilot theory is a cover up.
PabloMarmite@reddit
They know more or less what happened from satellite pings.
The pilot turned off systems (including the oxygen) and flew off into the Indian Ocean until it ran out of fuel.
It’s just the “why” that needs answering.
ToothDoctor24@reddit
You just sent me down a rabbit hole. They've found debris from the plane (3 parts) in the Indian ocean. So likely crashed somewhere there.

Existence doesn't make sense at all.
In order for there to be something, at some point, it must have come from nothing.
How come nothing didn't just continue forever.
AltruisticProgram141@reddit
Yes, this is close to my thoughts process as well. Even if we were to suppose that we were conveniently created by some kind of omnipotent being, surely that being would also have to have come from somewhere?
It actually has me thinking that maybe there's no such thing as 'nothing', and that there has always been something, and that we just came out of a different 'something' somewhere down the line.
It hurts my small brain to think about after a certain amount of time.
Spider-Thwip@reddit
There always having been something makes no sense either even if its true.
The only thing that makes sense is for nothing to exist, but something exists and thats fucked up.

Mr_Emile_heskey@reddit
In terms of point 4, what do you remember before you were born? Well, it'll be the same thing you remember once you're dead.
AltruisticProgram141@reddit
You may well be right in the end, but we have absolutely zero way of proving it, hence why it's a mystery.
Mr_Emile_heskey@reddit
We have no proof santa or the easter bunny aren't real, but we know they don't. I do understand the human body, and when someone is brain dead, they aren't suddenly knocking about doing spooky things, they're simply dead.
AltruisticProgram141@reddit
I guess my question stands for what happens to consciousness and memory when someone is brain dead? It possibly seems like a stupid question/silly thing to speculate about to you, but the idea of simply ceasing is really hard for me to get my head around. That energy that was used to create and store all that sensation must go somewhere.
I'm not suggesting anyone is doing anything spooky, though.
Mr_Emile_heskey@reddit
I did post this to someone else, but my answer to that is, do you remember anything from before you were born? It's the same thing you'll remember when you die. Everything has to start and end, it's just in terms of being human, it is a strange concept when you've always been alive.

The Andrew Gosden case has always stuck with me too. I'm about a year younger than him and I remember hearing about his disappearance on the news when I was 13 and thinking that he reminded me of people I knew. I hope that he's alive and well and somehow started a new life, but I know that's probably not the most likely solution.
Goldenboy451@reddit
The theory put forward in the top comment here has stuck with me as the most plausible explanation for all of the events that took place. Alternatively, his London trip was completely impulsive, and it was random tragedy once he arrived.
Either way, unfathomably tragic.
Mc_and_SP@reddit
I lean towards his reason for travelling wasn’t linked to his reason for not coming home.
Whether it was to buy a PSP, to see 30STM or to do some sightseeing, I think he met his ultimate fate by bad luck as opposed to premeditation.
terryjuicelawson@reddit
This is the thing about CCTV, there is a lot of it - getting it, checking through and finding anything is another matter.
CarpeCyprinidae@reddit
Gosden doesnt make any sense because none of his electronic devices were actually linked to the internet... its not clear that he had any way of communicating with someone in London. My opinion, whatever happened to him was either planned on his own, or random chance.
He chose to buy a single ticket despite the return being near the same price; He didn't intend to return
kittyvixxmwah@reddit
None of his own personal devices, sure, but at that time, he would have had a school-supplied email address and access to their computers, surely?
I'm absolutely sure that would have been investigated when he disappeared, but he would definitely have had access to the internet and online communication.
Mc_and_SP@reddit

I never had a school email address in 2007. I got an email address when I went to 6th form college in 08, but certainly not in secondary school.
Did they have a family computer? In 07 there were still some people that didn't.
CrumpledStar@reddit
I started secondary that year and we had school email addresses! School computers would have likely been locked down so without at least a some technical knowledge he might have struggled to get on social media or forums to communicate while in school regardless.

I think at that time most online chat was on MSN messenger, but people still used chat rooms, and games like Habbo were probably a target of sickos

Even now you get dodgy fuckers prowling around train/bus stations waiting for young people to turn up who look like runaways, and try to get them addicted to drugs or into prostitution or any other dodgy thing. Gosden probably told this guy he wanted to check out a museum, and the guy was like "I have a car, I'll drive you there, but first lets stop off at my flat." and then he never came out.

Every time the family had previously traveled to London it was to visit his Aunt, they always got a lift back so always got singles, he took the same train at the same time that he would have taken every time he went with family, they said they didnt think him buying a single was anything other than him doing what they had always done, he showed a lot of traits of aspergers which means that sticking to a routine like that wouldnt be unusual, that being said he had skipped school for the first time so clearly not his entire routine was followed so rigidly

I was quite similar to Andrew Gosden in a lot of ways when I was that age. In fact, I was about the same age as him when he went missing and at the time I remember thinking something along the lines of "oh shit, the madlad went and actually did it, well good for him"
Based on what I know of the case, I'm pretty sure he was just bored, shy, and sheltered, and wanted to walk away from his life and start again (and also see the world).
I couldn't tell you what happened next though.
blackcurrantcat@reddit
I agree except I think this is how it started/was intended but a 14yo boy is a lot smarter in his head than he is in real life and something went very bad, very quickly, most likely accidentally and whoever else was involved panicked and got rid of him and so someone out there knows exactly what happened and exactly where he is now and just isn’t saying or is no longer of this earth and we’ll never know.
douggieball1312@reddit

What happened to Richey Edwards. He disappeared in 1995 and is presumed dead but I don’t think his body was ever discovered.
The other one is what was the relationship between Jimmy Savile and Peter Sutcliff. Sutcliff murdered 13 women and attempted to murder loads more. He & Savile were close pals. Were they a team? Did they carry out sexual assaults together? Sutcliff told police his “master” told him to kill. It was assumed he was talking about god but what if his master was Savile?!
Dr_Surgimus@reddit
I'm a huge Manics fan and I'm sure Richey is dead. There are some grim stories about his behaviour on that last tour of Japan and coupled with good lyrics it's really not unlikely that he jumped off the bridge
Alecmalloy@reddit
Fellow huge Manics fan. Of course, we'll never know 100% for sure, but the lyrics all the way from GT to Holy Bible and again on Journal make it patently clear this is a man who was massively depressed and self loathing. The physical abuse he put himself through only reinforces it. And finding his car at a notorious suicide spot kind of confirms it.
terryjuicelawson@reddit
Lyrics on the Holy Bible literally "I want to die in the summertime. I want to die" and that he wants to be so skinny that he "rots from view". I blame the music press at the time, salacious crap about him apparently being seen in Thailand and stuff like that.
LadyMirkwood@reddit
Manics fan since the 90s, I think he died shortly after he went missing.
Aside from the lyrics and the many issues he was dealing with, his last few weeks confirm to me he took his own life. The band said he seemed to be doing better, seemed lighter and laughed more.
I think that's because he had made his choice.
I just wish the band and his family got some closure.
terryjuicelawson@reddit
People who are depressed, suicidal and go missing near large bodies of water it is kind of a given. He is known to have been sleeping in his car by Aust services, I know the area. From there footpaths take you all along the estuary, there are cliffs and there is a pedestrian crossing on the old Severn Bridge. From there a body would go out to sea as it is rapidly tidal. They can take days to find a body in an inland river. Bit of a mystery still with the Jack O'Sullivan disappearance, he apparently didn't have personal problems was last seen in Bristol near the water but still - a tidal part, they could be in the mid Atlantic.
conspiracyfetard89@reddit
I think a couple of Sutcliffs victims were found on the other side of Jimmy Savilles fence. Saville had a proper massive house right on the moors, and on the other side of his fence were a load of trees and bushes where they found some victims.
PabloMarmite@reddit
I think the chances are overwhelmingly likely that he jumped off the Severn Bridge and his body is at the bottom of the sea.
BobBobBobBobBobDave@reddit
There is a pretty good case that Sutcliffe, once caught, played up the mental illness angle because he knew he was bang to rights and wanted to justify his acts (and potentially preferred to be in a psychiatric facility rather than prison).
He said voices told him to kill, he said he thought all the victims (even the ones who weren't) were sex workers, and he said he killed out of hate and there wasn't a sexual element. The last two are not true or scarcely believable (e.g. some victims he attacked clearly had no connection to sex work).
So I tend not to believe the stuff about being told to kill, by voices or otherwise. He did it because he enjoyed it. When caught he tried to rationalise and present himself as not fully responsible.

No. This one isn't a mystery. The first 'chicken' came from a chicken like creature that laid an egg that had a slight mutation.
DW_555@reddit
The chickens predecessor, as u/carlovski99 said just above.
TheHalfwayBeast@reddit
The egg. Fish lay eggs, as do insects and amphibians, which both came before reptiles and birds.
carlovski99@reddit
The egg. Something not quite the same as whatever you define as a chicken, had an egg with an embryo that had a mutation that made it into said chicken definition.
Of course it's almost impossible to draw that line between almost chicken and chicken.
Dans77b@reddit
The answer of course is the egg. But I don't think there is really a satisfactory answer, because the lines between species on an evolutionary scale are so blurred.
There might have been an egg that produced something sufficiently chicken-like, but which went on to produce offspring not quite chicken-like enough.

I want to see HD footage of a ghost/spirit , and maybe even communicate with one that’s proud to represent the other ghosts and straighten facts, explain why they do boring things like just make the tv signal bad, turn off a light and startle cats. See if they think they have a fair legacy.
ArcadiaRivea@reddit
My cat is scared of his own farts, and I'm not exactly mentally healthy... so I feel like we both subconsciously trigger each other's "was that a ghost?" response - he flinches any time I so much as breathe funny (no idea why; I got him when he was 7, a year ago, from someone Mum saw lived in her boyfriend's building who needed a home for this cat. Mum and I have our theories but can't be certain) - and I'm always on edge as if something is watching me... turns out the thing watching me is usually Lenny
He does a lot of blank staring which sets my paranoia off to no end because I don't know if he thinks he saw something or he's just being creepy... he has big shiny eyes so often he looks demonic because they're highly reflective
I'd love to know for sure "yeah that was a ghost and not the cat farting" (or vice versa)

I do firmly believe in ghosts. My nans house was haunted, and doors did open by themselves. You would hear footsteps in the bedroom directly above the front room - not random house noises but audibly moving from one side of the room to the other and then a door would slam. She had an old school hobb kettle that would whistle randomly as if it had just finished boiling but when you went to turn it off the gas wasn't even on.
We experienced things but we never saw anything. So I'm very much on your side of wanting solid and undeniable proof
Mr_Emile_heskey@reddit
Houses make strange noises, and the human mind can do funny things, especially at night time. As a health care person who has dealt with a lot of death, when you're dead you're dead. There is no such thing as ghosts. Of course this is just my opinion, and I would enjoy having a civil conversation instead of being downvoted.
H0vit0@reddit
Yeah i hear you, and in the absence of any actual proof. Ever. I couldn't even really dispute what you're saying. I can only speak to what I experienced and what my family experienced over the course of 40+ years. I believe, but just because I believe doesn't mean I'm actually right lol. If someone came through with an actual logical explanation for things that had happened i wouldn't dig my heels in, and I would actually appreciate a logical explanation for stuff that has happened.
Mr_Emile_heskey@reddit
Most homes will make a lot of noise, the older they are, the older they will. Wood expanding and retracting, metal doing the same. The human brain hears these but because they're not common sounds, we associate them with the paranormal.
People with even mild brain issues can have life changing issues with speech and motor movement, so when someone dies it's very unlikely with zero brain fiction anyone is going to be running up and down stairs or messing with lights.
RebeccaCheeseburger@reddit
Oh I’ve had crazy things happen too like you’ve explained that no one would even believe but my friend and brother did witness a lot, but even I kinda doubt my memory.
And now I’m older, and maybe less reactive,I would love to experience that again!
Ghosts don’t seem as prevalent now a days.
WilkoCEO@reddit
I don't believe in ghosts personally, but here's a story:
It was routine for my mother and father to sleep at different times. Mum would go to bed at around 10-11 pm, and dad would go to bed at around 4am. Dad was sitting on the sofa, about 1am. The TV was on - watching some sort of documentary programme he wanted to catch. Out of the corner of his eye, a tennis ball rolled from the kitchen, past the living room door and towards the front door. Not a slow roll, but as if the dog had smacked it and wanted to chase it. One of the dogs loved to do this. The dogs were all upstairs in bed with my mother - they were shut in the bedroom and could not get out. That tennis ball moved entirely by itself.
Ok-Decision403@reddit
I remember reading somewhere that it was mass electrification that reduced ghost activity- though I imagine you're not old enough to remember when most homes only had gas lighting, so that's probably not the reason in your case!
RebeccaCheeseburger@reddit
No I’ve been around since the ghost busters! But very interesting.
Ok-Decision403@reddit
In that case, you have your answer - they've been busted, so fewer left to slam doors, ooze ectoplasm, and steal hair bobbles! Sic transit gloria mundi...
RebeccaCheeseburger@reddit
But I’m pretty certain that there have been deaths since the 80s, maybe they’re on a different vibe?
Ok-Decision403@reddit
Or maybe they got better paying gigs elsewhere - domestic market in decline and all that? Or confused by the time of ghosting on dating apps, misunderstood the concept, and decided to retrain in other fields? Whatever the reason, you're definitely right that there's been a general decline in good ghostliness and general apparitions.
H0vit0@reddit
Ghosts have gotten lazy man
RebeccaCheeseburger@reddit
And this is why we need to speak to them, find out if they are slacking, or if they’re tied up in any other afterlife things and we were expecting too much, maybe they have ghost rights now?
H0vit0@reddit
Maybe now there's just lazy millennial ghosts. The Victorian ghosts who were putting in work and really stepping up the door slamming and random footsteps game have now passed over and the millennials are starting to take over. They're just on the sofa watching netflix with us
HezzaE@reddit
People kept saying, much to my parents' frustration, that the house they used to own as a holiday let was haunted. Mum was pretty sure that everything they claimed to hear ("screaming" for example) was basically city folk not knowing what wildlife sounds like. There was one lady who claimed to have "felt a presence" in the house. Mum reckons she felt the presence of the stoats who were living in the loft at the time.
So imagine my surprise when Mum told me that she thinks that a place we stayed at in France when I was young was haunted. Apparently, she woke up on several nights hearing footsteps, which would pause outside their room. Obviously, she thought that it was one of us, having had a nightmare, coming for comfort and hesitating to wake them up. So she'd go and open the door and as she approached it, she'd hear the footsteps running away and the sound of a door closing, but from a direction where there was no door (but it was likely based on the layout of the house that there used to be, as it was attached to an old barn there). She went and looked in on us and we were in bed, fast asleep.
We stayed there several years in a row and it happened every time. She never did work out any rational explanation for what she was hearing, though I don't think she actually did see anything either. Nor did she feel scared or threatened by the strange noises disturbing her sleep each night. She never mentioned any of this to me or my brother until we were much older, and we never noticed anything strange about the place either.
H0vit0@reddit
That's really interesting. Do you know why your mum never felt threatened or scared? My nan wasn't scared because she had been in the house for 40+ plus years so her attitude was very much "if something wanted to hurt us it would have done it by now" so she just cracked on.
HezzaE@reddit
I can ask her, but I'm guessing from the fact that she told them to go back to bed that she thought they behaved like children, like us!

I find my self reading about lots of unexplained and unsolved murders, it’s interesting. But I’m really haunted by these too-common UK cases like Lindsay Rimmer. They hit too close to home and there is something much more domestic about them that makes them especially chilling. I think they are just so unglamorous in their tragedy, unlike some of the over blown reporting on international and specifically US crimes of a similar ilk. The sadness I feel for victims is nearly equalled by how sorry I am for those who have to deal with the aftermath. We all go through shit in life but the trauma that the relatives of the victims must bear is another crime again.

dcpb90@reddit
I was young so only really have the details from family.
My parents were divorced and I spent weekends with him. One weekend he didn’t show. My mom took me to his house but no one was there. She still had a key so went in and everything was there, his car and work van on the drive, keys in the bowl by the door including house keys and wallet. This was before mobiles really.
She called my grandparents but they hadn’t heard from him for a few days, nothing unusual.
After about a few more days they reported to the police. I vaguely remember a police officer giving me a pound for sweets.
No activity in his bank accounts, no unusual withdrawals of cash. His work hadn’t seen him for a week or so.
They came up with nothing, they spoke to pretty much everyone he knew, I believe they searched a few areas he regularly went climbing at, but the real confusion was why is everything still at his house and he’s not touching the money in his accounts. The police had no idea and it went cold.
This was 1996. A few years ago I had him declared dead. I held off until both his parents had passed so I didn’t destroy any hope they had.
By all accounts he was an abusive, short fused man with suspected mental health issues, my mom left because of that but she still wanted me to know him. It sounds like it was better for me he wasn’t in my life as it was probably only a matter of time before I was on the receiving end but that doesn’t help the not knowing and the lack of closure.

On 9/11 the planes hit in the morning their time but in the evening that day a third building in that area fell down after catching fire because the debris from the falling twin towers crashed into it. The BBC announced its collapse while it was still standing on TV behind the reporter. I don't have an opinion either way but some people think the building was rigged to blow
PumpkinSpice2Nice@reddit
Could there have been a delay? That’s what usually happens with tv.
404Notfound-@reddit
Or could it just be that day was pure chaos so news channels like in a different country might not have everything correct yet. I mean right yeah it's weird that actually happened but like anything that day. There was plenty of false reports
cable54@reddit
Yeah I doubt there is more to it than a simple mistake/bad information at a clearly uncertain and distressing time.
But because buildings don't just collapse after a fire, it is weird that there were reports it did collapse before it had. Basically, there would never be an assumption a building would collapse. That's the reason why it is seen as odd. Coupled with the fact it's still seen in the background as the report is being given live to camera.
Of course, in reality, fire services probably saw the condition of the building and knew it had received direct damage from the falling twin towers too, and probably relayed the fact they thought it would collapse too. And this information was "Chinese whispered" into it had already collapsed.
sparkletigerfrog@reddit
It was a day where two buildings had just been collapsed by aeroplanes, and chaos reigned. Nothing was far fetched or impossible at that point.

It was said on air 30 minutes before the building started to collapse.
ConfusedMaverick@reddit
Various news organisations reported the fall of one of the buildings on 9/11 half an hour before it actually fell
https://fullfact.org/online/bbc-world-trade-center-7-september-11/
Some folk believe this means that the whole of 9/11 was scripted, and this was a mistake in the playout of the script.
Conspiracy theory stuff, basically, but it IS true, and weird, that it was reported in advance.
However, it wasn't the first building to fall, nor was it unexpected (there had been a raging fire in the building) so it isn't so farfetched that a believable rumour was accidentally reported as fact.
HappyLittleHermit@reddit
Heat softens metal. Metal that is soft is not stable and is more likely to bend under the weight of supporting a large skyscraper. Large structurally unsound buildings are very likely to collapse

Well there's the fact he really bore no resemblance to Lucan once found in person. And the little issue of him being definitively ID'd and discounted as Lucan.
CatMum001@reddit
Ah ok. So not worth watching the documentary?
KeremyJyles@reddit
Definitely not for anything viable on Lucan's status or whereabouts.
MisterWednesday6@reddit
Madeleine McCann. I have always said that if her parents were not involved they still know a lot more than they've ever let on.
asmeile@reddit
I figured it was the parents at the time but in the subsequent years and little drips of information come out it seems less and less likely. Did they downplay the levels to which they were abandoning those kids and potentially sedating them to enjoy their evening, I would say so.
terryjuicelawson@reddit
Why are people so determined that they sedated them? Kids sleep.
asmeile@reddit
Sure kids sleep and sometimes through anything and this could easily be another example of that but why it may not be is the twins were unable to be roused afterwards, like when the room was full of panicking adults, Kate checked to make sure there was chest movement as it wasn't entirely clear to those present that they were in fact alive.
So that coupled with them both being doctors, then both mentioning later that they thought their kids had been drugged and the police mentioned that they had suspicions that the mccanns had done it but didn't pursue them, though this could easily be just then covering their incompetence.

What happened to flight MH370 that disappeared over the Indian Ocean in 2014. Yes they found 'debris' from the plane, but that doesn't explain what happened to it, or the fates of the 239 people on board who have never been found. If they found debris floating around, surely you'd expect a body or t to show up eventually.
CarpeCyprinidae@reddit
Unfortunately the thing that makes bodies and aircraft parts quite different is edibility. Boeings don't taste great
Qrbrrbl@reddit
Thats all down to preparation though. A fine Boeing dust cooked up into a curry with the right spices would probably taste better than gnawing on a waterlogged femur.

I may be regrettably underestimating the culinary skills of pelagic sharks

Have you ever eaten a meal made by pelagic sharks that wasn't tasty?
Didn't think so.

I think the general consensus now is that the pilot flew it into the ocean for an unknown reason

Precisely what reason, though. That's the mystery.

Just listened to a piddcast and the dad said it took a month before police got there head round he wasn't just a runaway or his family had done away with him and by that time cctv from London shops etc had been taped over. One thing that struck me when listening was how his parents kept saying maybe he decided to take a gap year, maybe he decided to start a new life etc. They put out statements saying "Andrew if your living a new life that's fine just let us know your alive" type of thing. So they and him must have discussed this as a possibility at some point?
Anyway it was They Walk Among US podcast.
I too think he was lured away and whoever he was meeting said they'd drive him home after or something due to Andrew not buying a return ticket.

So there is this man in my home town in my home country that was initially convicted and sent to prison for murdering his whole family unit but he maintained his innocence for years and it was eventually taken to the court here in London (as my home country is part of the Commonwealth) to be retried and the case was found Not Proven and he was let out of prison. Personally it’s my opinion he is guilty. He blames his dad who was one of the murdered and claims it was murder-suicide, but it was never very believable. One (of many things) is the rifle ‘his dad used’ was sitting upright on the ground beside the dads body in such a way it had to have been placed like that. He also sues everyone who so much as mentions his name in a negative light on internet forums.
I would be interested of course in hearing the true account of what happened.
