My friend, who recently moved into the area, said she would inquire with a neighbor about who to contact regarding the damaged post. At the time, I believed my insurance wouldn't cover this type of damage, and a friend's friend advised me that reporting the post wasn’t necessary.

However, I later discovered that my insurance does cover my car’s repair, though with a deductible. Can I still report the incident to my insurance even though I don’t have a police report or any formal documentation about the accident?
