Manual is300 Worth it purchase?

I’m 17 with my permit and about to have my license within the next month or so. I currently drive a 1st gen 4Runner but want something a little smaller and lower to the ground. My dad told me of a work friend who is selling a Lexus is300 sport design for 5k it is manual and when went to go get checked it is all in good condition. I’m considering buying it. I need to learn manual for it since it’s a stick shift but I don’t know if I should risk the money because so. Does any manual is300 owners have any advice ?( or manual drivers in general)

As a new driver it would be best for you to stay with what you have. That bit of height you want to get away from makes it easier for you to see in traffic.

Awesome, solidly built car but be prepared for terrible fuel economy for the performance.

Miles?

174,000. It’s also old man driven so it’s not spun
Jack_Bogul@reddit
Oh its been spun... spun hard

Yeahh you are honestly probably right, that old fuck might spin it but you think if I took it to a mechanic they would be able to tell me ?

What does spun/spin mean?
Most people didn't abuse these, basically just sporty camry

Not necessarily true, at least in my state/city most of these are beat to shit

Definitely take it in for an independent pre purchase inspection. If you do not trust someone to get a soldering iron 10cm from your genital, then don't take their word.

I hope at least lol

Insanely cheap unless it's a rotbox. Manual IS300s are rare and go for a lot more than that.

I did ask if he would let me take it to a shop for a green light and he said yeah so I think it might be a good sign

Get a pre purchase inspection before you buy it. A hundred or so now could save you thousands.

I taught one daughter to drive stick in 10 minutes. She loved it! Same thing with other daughter, she couldn't get it.
It's fun to shift yourself. I must be hard on clutches, though. I went through 2 in the first 100,000 miles on my Nissan Frontier.
If it checks out good, go for it (but yeah, offer $4000. It's already a no if you don't ask, and he may say yes! Or meet you halfway!)
Either way, I've heard good things about these Lexuses. And that's NOT high mileage for a Toyota/Lexus.
If you don't like it, you should be able to get out of it what you have in it, or more. Go for it! Enjoy!

Great price. If you aren’t feeling it, you could flip it for a pretty profit to a dude that would drift it.

Could be fun. Careful though it's just fast enough to get a 17 yo in a lot of trouble. Offer $4K.

Yeah that’s something to take in consideration. Will do man thanks
