I hope they improved the fit and finish of the interior. Everyone complained about it in the last few years. Too much creaking and movement.
Makeitquick666@reddit
The Mercs that I sat in must have been built by a different brand, they are so horribly built that they felt worse that some of the taxis I’ve sat in
NotPumba420@reddit
Honestly new E class is fine. No rattles no squeaky sounds. Soft materials everywhere. There are not many nicer interiors
Makeitquick666@reddit
I'm willing to believe that I'm just unlucky, but even if discounting the build quality that frankly I'm not sure I'd recover from, there are things that I don't like about the interior, from things that I'm sure that can be turned off like the lights, to the thing that I'm not sure if can be changed like the font
TunakTun633@reddit
This is the second time the E-Class has been refreshed on the same platform, and the second time that refresh has earned it a Car of the Year award.
I think it's a weak choice the second time around. I like that air suspension is getting easy to find on the E-Class, but I don't think enough novel work is being done in the engineering of this car. Then again, the field is pretty light on new ideas this year, somehow.
I would have liked this award to go to the new Civic Hybrid, but perhaps it doesn't advance the field of fast, practical 50MPG hybrids beyond the Prius?
FettesBrot@reddit
My honest first thought was like how much were they paid off.
Umba360@reddit
Great car.
Drives nice, handles nice and I really like the look.
salloumk@reddit
And here we have why these 'awards' mean less than nothing
NotPumba420@reddit
I can kind of understand it. Look at its competitors. The new 5 series is a total fuckup
salloumk@reddit
Perhaps, but why does the car of the year need to be a mid sized sedan specifically? There’s nothing remarkable about the new E Class, whether from design or technical perspective.
Santa_Hates_You@reddit
Looking forward to test driving the E53 AMG, but don’t know how I feel about the Modern MB interiors.
goaelephant@reddit
Ironic how a C63 AMG uses a 4 cylinder, but the E53 AMG has a 6 cylinder. I know the badges mean nothing anymore (for decades), but for fuck's sake, both models exist at same time and the lower number has the bigger engine.
Next thing: the Mercedes S580 has a V8, but the S600 will have a 3cyl turbo. Lmao
NotPumba420@reddit
Since turbo chargers exist the numbers got heavily detached from displacement.
The 4 cyl in the c63 makes more power than the 6 cyl in the E53. And the 4 cyl is a one man one engine amg engine. The 6 cyl is a regular Mercedes engine.
That being said the E53 is the way to go here
Key_Construction5336@reddit
Um what
NotPumba420@reddit
I can kinda understand it. It‘s one of the only cars in this class that did not totally get fucked up. It‘s really nice to drive, has a clean design and quality is decent - all combined with top tech. Look at how they massacred the 5 series for example.
For a comfy fast daily it‘s perfect.
boe_jackson_bikes@reddit
I honestly completely forgot the E-Class even existed. Nobody is buying these for $90,000+. See way more 5 series on the road.
dayvieee@reddit
All the Mercedes sedans look the same to me now, before I could tell the difference but it's just another Mercedes when I see any at the point.
NotPumba420@reddit
Hm I think the differences are bigger than in the past. Front and rear are much more differenciated than last gen and in the 90s they looked muuch more similar
Lordrandall@reddit
They are just training us for when they all use the same EV platform and are almost identical anyway.
Uptons_BJs@reddit
Honestly prefer the last gen E class for a few reasons;
NotPumba420@reddit
Your points are right but only for the pre facelift of last gen, which had an annoying to use infotainment that was slow as hell and some other small disadvantages.
New E class got all the tech upgrades without the quality and design going to shit, which at the moment is a pretty rare thing. So compared to other upper mid class sedans like the new 5 series this didn‘t fuck up.
hi_im_bored13@reddit
I thought the same till I drove one. You don’t see it, but the ride, nvh, just refinement as a whole is so good.
Recoil42@reddit
I think you may have driven a lower trim, the E-Class does indeed have dashboard-length glass when optioned with the passenger screen, so it is roughly the same as the EQ-series.
hi_im_bored13@reddit
Must have been, one I tried just had a centre tablet and instrument cluster, rest was wood trim.
Recoil42@reddit
It must've become standard on the EQS recently, it wasn't in years prior. I would imagine they'll do the same thing for the E-Class, gradually phase it in as standard.
The CLA is supposed to have a full-dash superscreen as well, and I'd bet dollars to donuts it'll be standard with everyone else jumping on the trend — a with the Chinese market now going display-crazy.
petervidani@reddit
I loved the eyebrows era. The whole lineup was just right.
willey2cool@reddit
I feel like I never see the e-class any more, most of the buyers opted for the GLE and GLC now.
saltedeggs14@reddit
The only E Classes I see on the road nowadays are W212’s
goaelephant@reddit
Same, and W211's also.
W212 350 and the W166 ML/GLE 350 are the last "reliable" MB by a long shot.
dam_sharks_mother@reddit
Looking at the list of past winners:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motor_Trend_Car_of_the_Year
This weird, horrible choice is perfectly in-line.
CayenneHybridSE@reddit
Most of the past winners make sense to me, the Lucid Air is a phenomenal EV in terms of performance and innovation. Same with the Prius, Toyota really hit it out of the park with the latest gen. There’s some odd ones here and there but overall the list isn’t bad
Hot_Improvement9221@reddit
This is a weird choice.

Quick_Coyote_7649@reddit
I think it was a good choice. It’s a nice looking generation exterior wise and although the interior is a lot more minimalistic I still think it thinks it has a nice sleek look to it. Based off of reviews it seems like it’s a pretty good executive A-B type of car too tbh. The non amg model wasn’t made to do anything ridiculous that would heavily impact a drive without precautions being included so it’s a pretty simple acting car that does well at being that
DocPhilMcGraw@reddit
Kidding. But can you imagine if that was part of the write up?
ikilledtupac@reddit
….oh
hook_falls@reddit
Awesome, lemme head out and buy one.
Oh wait, I have like . . . 5 bucks.
Guess I'll look for a used Chevy Sprint or something. But man, those rich people will sure get a great car!
