Mustard/bacos sandwich

This is probably the most ridiculous. I bet no one else ever did it.
After school—white bread, yellow mustard, imitation bacon bits—He-Man/She-Ra hour. 🙌
shellevanczik@reddit
Yep, pickles and peanut butter sandwiches was my go to.
Inevitable-Key-5200@reddit (OP)
My brother swore by pb&p. I never brought myself to try it.
shellevanczik@reddit
Oh, I almost forgot to mention that the peanut butter has to be thick! And spread a little bit more on the second slice of bread. That way the pickles wont soak through. Then make sure the pickles are a little bit dry.
Inevitable-Key-5200@reddit (OP)
Only thick peanut butter will do. All other accoutrements are second fiddle and must adjust accordingly.
shellevanczik@reddit
And why even bother if not?!
Inevitable-Key-5200@reddit (OP)
This is the way. We must be out here form the peanut butter sandwich guild in the coming years.
Frozen or unfrozen bread, clearly a pb spread around each slice to seal it. Go thiccc with the well on one side, see what they come through with to fill their well. Best believe their well must be lined in pb as we do here.
Reduced sugar grape jelly or strawberry preserves? Somehow Ms Honey thinks that they deserve a seat at the PB sandwich table…..stay away—join maple, pickles, and bacon in the possible recruits. We’ll evaluate and get back to you.
But can the whole congregation agree that Nutella-hazelnut/chocolate spread has NOOOOOOOOOO place anywhere NEAR a peanut butter sandwich of ANY kind.
They think they’re sooooooo much better than us because they have a nut butter and chocolate. We do too, it’s called Reese’s and it’s so much better.
Hazelnuts are great for cracking open at Christmas pretending they’re Chestnuts which are actually gross.Hazelnuts are much better and you don’t have to roast them.
Or in the fall pretending they’re acorns, which are also really gross. Hazelnuts are much better and you simply crack and eat. Leave the acorns to the squirrels and chipmunks.
The point is hazelnuts already have a nice place, just stay away from the kids sandwiches no?
shellevanczik@reddit
Hazel Noots? Like in Nootella? No. There’s only so much nuance when it comes to a proper sandwich.
Just drink hot chocolate at that point. And there’s nothing wrong with hot chocolate; it has its place
shellevanczik@reddit
The key is creamy peanut butter and super crunchy dill pickles. Oh and soft ass white bread, which means you have to eat it right away.
Won’t hurt to try it.
Inevitable-Key-5200@reddit (OP)
You’re right considering the amount of independent peanut butter and pickles swimming around my house.
I will add that another go-to was a proper PB&J but constructed with frozen bread cuz mom bought in bulk. I haven’t tried a frozen uncrustable (cuz Gen-X ate the crust and LIKED IT) but I imagine it’s kind of the same.
shellevanczik@reddit
It’s so cool you mentioned that, because I used to get into so much trouble for eating my dad’s hostess fruit pies. They started putting them in the freezer to deter me, but liked frozen pies even better, LOL
See? My dad had pies and such, and I had to have a peanut butter and pickle sandwich.
You Bastards!!!!
Inevitable-Key-5200@reddit (OP)
It’s so funny how we just adapted to whatever our parents did. They froze bread/fruit pies—we learned to love them frozen.
Some late weekend nights my snack was literally frozen broccoli and either margarine and salt or American cheese. I mean if you’re hungry, that’s what’s in the fridge.
A bit different from today when we’re like what do the kids want, not sure if they like this.
shellevanczik@reddit
Agreed. We also probably have had clouds of smoke around us when we really got creative lmao
Inevitable-Key-5200@reddit (OP)
Are we siblings??? Back seat of the car, no seat belts, the crack in the window doing very little to dissipate the smoke.
shellevanczik@reddit
How funny!! My little sister was 2 when the seatbelt law came out in NYS, so we had to wrangle a toddler into a fucking car seat! We had a flipping station wagon and had free reign to the whole back. A backwards facing seat at the back: we (my middle sister )played board games back there. It was outlet playground ffs!!
My mom buckled up right away to show us, and we’d been inundated with the safety. My dad? Ugh!!! My middle sister and I protested to our dad that if he’s resisting why shouldn’t baby sister??
It worked. ;)
Inevitable-Key-5200@reddit (OP)
Ah the waaaay back. I have 5 sibs, and sometimes we had station wagons but at one point we had a ford escort hatch back. My youngest 2 sibs had to basically puzzle piece themselves into riding back there.
Side note check out the movie “the way back” with Steve Carell, Toni Collette, Allison Jenney, and Sam Rockwell among a bunch of really good others. I’d never heard of that movie but it was really good.
shellevanczik@reddit
I’ll certainly look up the movie.
Also, my real dad was apparently a real whore so maybe we are siblings, lol!
Happy days, potential sibling
Inevitable-Key-5200@reddit (OP)
My dad was an adopted truck driver so we can at least be play cousins!! One abandoned family means many road families no??
shellevanczik@reddit
Hell yeah! Why not
Inevitable-Key-5200@reddit (OP)
Do I smoke weed now, yes. Is it due to my parents smoking and Cheech and Chong? No cuz eff you Nancy Regan and Just Say No. I resented my parents for smoking.
But then I grew up and saw that it actually helps with my overall physical/mental health and I could have benefited much sooner if Just Say No and D.A.R.E. wasn’t propagandizing me.
Lorelai_72@reddit
I have never gotten this snack...what do you like about it?
shellevanczik@reddit
Creamy, nutty, sour, and instant. We had things to cook, not really snacks.
Lorelai_72@reddit
I'll have to try it. I could never understand apples and peanut butter, which I have since tried, and is good as well. What about pickles and icecream?
shellevanczik@reddit
Lol, no pickles and ice cream, but when I was pregnant I craved barbecue corn chips and key lime pie/yogurt
Also, peanut butter and cheese was another option
Lorelai_72@reddit
The only one I remember while pregnant was watermelon. That craving was ridiculous, right? Sometimes I would threaten my husband to get it. He didn't fight me too hard, considering my condition. He thought it was "cute". 🙄 Key lime. Yes, I get that. I will try the peanut butter and cheese.😉
shellevanczik@reddit
I mean we only live once. What the hell?
Lorelai_72@reddit
Yep! 😊
Lorelai_72@reddit
White bread, massive amount of yellow mustard, couple slices of bologna..
Inevitable-Key-5200@reddit (OP)
Fried or unfried?
Lorelai_72@reddit
Never fried. It would have taken too long. 😊
Inevitable-Key-5200@reddit (OP)
Hokay, I got you. I was wondering if you did the X in the middle of the slice to prevent buckling— but I see that we were very different children madam/sir!!
Lorelai_72@reddit
Oooohhh....now I know what you mean! I left the bubble there when cooking. I didn't know about that x cut. The only people that mentioned that to me were newfies. Bologna = poor man's steak.
Lorelai_72@reddit
That sounds cool. Never heard of that..
Bitter_Kiwi_9352@reddit
Fake bacon bits used to be 4% of my annual diet. Do they even exist anymore?
My after school savoury snack was Ghetto Pizza; white bread with Heinz 57 sauce and a slice of processed cheese in the toaster oven.
shellevanczik@reddit
They sure do still exist!
Inevitable-Key-5200@reddit (OP)
Yep I think in the Walmart spice section they have some and maybe Oscar Meyer.
Once I became a self sufficient adult, I never looked back from the “real” bacon bits. I still call them Bacos though lol.
shellevanczik@reddit
I just don’t like the real ones, lol. When I want a salad, you know there will be bacos. I was a finicky eater and still am. If my bacon isn’t crispy enough I just can’t eat it. Give me the salty, always crispy, and smoky Bacos!!
viewering@reddit
i'm in !
ranchoparksteve@reddit
I would want to add a Kraft “American Cheese Single” on that. Probably a pickle as well. Then Gong Show.
