Do 8 hour shift local jobs exist?

I've been working 10-12 hour shift 5-7 days a week since I was 18. I would really like to slow down and enjoy life a little bit more. I've been in this industry for about a year now and coming to the realization that in this industry the standard shift is 10-12 hours. Are 8 hour local jobs a thing?

Companies on the edge of bankruptcy are your best option for those kinda hours

I wondered this too

A local business here offers it- 8-5pm Mon-Fri -the catch? You:the loading and unloading vehicle batteries in a truck similar to those beer ones with the individuals rolling doors.
I used to work at AutoZone as a (hub) driver to other AutoZone stores before I got a CDL, yeah, I knew that job wasn't for me. Maybe if I wasn't in my 50s I could handle it....

I just started a local gig, drop and hook for retail stores and some drivers bust out 8hrs and call it a day. 2 loads per day, i couldn’t believe it myself lol

I worked eight hour shifts when I was a union dump truck driver for a gas line installation company.
M-F 7–3 and OT after 8 hours daily if we wanted.

Some P&D routes are 8 hours
Metal1204@reddit
Try looking into City P&D for an LTL carrier.
clairered27@reddit
Some places offer 4 days but it's 10/12 and some ltl routes could be 8 hours but probably few of them. You can maybe look into shuttling as well for like food service or ltl
Waisted-Desert@reddit
Yes. You want to find a private carrier. I worked for an event production company before Covid killed live entertainment. 8am-5pm, 5 days a week. OT was as needed depending on the production schedule.

Some Amazon accounts work 3 12s

It’s slow season up here in mn and I’ve been working 8s the past month or so and now less (gonna be halfway laid off soon here) but summer I’m pushing 12s. I haul concrete in a mixer truck
12InchPickle@reddit
I’ve yet to see one for 8 hours. Most I see are 10 or even 12.

Mine is 8hrs I work for a local paper company in north cal. I work 6:30-3. Or 5:00-1:30 with maybe one 9 hr or 10hr day randomly when busy. I wish I worked more. It’s a bunch of old guys and me and it’s super easy work
AE_Racer@reddit
I do 10 mon-thurs usually 8-9 on friday. OT after 40. Class b fuel truck for construction. Its already slowing down and im taking longer breaks to get 10 in. Lol. I make around what I did driving regional. Been said here many times, find a company that has trucks and not a trucking company.

Try getting a government job. Where I am for example garbage and recycling are done by the municipality and their guys work a straight 8 hours. Occasionally they’ll have some overtime but rarely

I do local (inside 60 mile radius) food service. 7 hours yesterday. Normally it’s 8-10, but I’m paid hourly so I’m not running like my hair is on fire. Weekends off, 0400 start, finish when the trailer is empty, super chill. But, it’s food service, running heavy products down a ramp and sometimes stairs. I hate stairs.
jmzstl@reddit
I've been told Costco drivers rarely work more than 8 hours a day.

scottiethegoonie@reddit
my buddy switched from swift to JB intermodal and says the same thing. 9 hrs instead of 11 or 12. Same money.
scottiethegoonie@reddit
Waste jobs are 8 hours. Class B recycling as well.

I worked for a contractor at FedEx and had literally the best work life balance ever. 5 days a week, weekends off, holidays off & paid, 7 hour shifts and was at an unbelievably good hourly rate. Miss that job but me and my wife have to move to Germany so I had to quit. They told me if I ever come back to this state then I’ll have my job waiting for me. Awesome guys man
Imaginativested@reddit
Yard drivers usually work between 8-12 hr shifts with set schedules you can plan your life around.
Enterhandleshere@reddit
Try to find something that is 4 days on 12 hours a shift, a lot of companies out in Canada are moving towards that better life balance and stability on both ends. 3 day weekends make a huge difference. Always remember the worst someone can say is no.
CoolTemperature1602@reddit
Sure. I have one where a lot of runs are only 8hrs and they can ask you to stay up to 9.
Entraprenuerrrrr@reddit
If you find one and it pays well, jump on it. it'll be your only opportunity. 10-12 is normal. 9 is a short day.
colleensdoormat@reddit
I had one that was 9 hrs, and 4 10 hr days isnt unheard of. Dont think I ever had one that was 8 hrs regularly.
